If you could make up an award like the Oscar and give it to one of the characters, what would it be?
Peace,

Well, the Middle-Earth Mirthies Award Show would have categories for book-verse stuff, not just characters. That's a prospect to go on. It would be sort of like the SAG Awards, more so than like the Oscars at least. Now, votes would not be based on how generally good someone is, just how much you think they deserve the votes for....
Stuff along the lines of...
~Best Overall Character~
~Best Female Character~
~Best Male Character~
~Best Cameo Appearance~
~Best Overall Villain~
~Best Monster/Creature Character~
~Best Comedic Character~
~Best Character Monologue/Speech~
~Best Overall Death Scene~
Yeah...stuff like that...must think of my votes.

Hmm, what about the equivalent of the Razzies? (The Evil smilie is gone! *sniffle* :( )
~Worst Overall Character~
~Worst Female Character~
~Worst Male Character~
~Worst Cameo Appearance~
~Worst Overall Villain~
~Worst Monster/Creature Character~
~Worst Comedic Character~
~Worst Character Monologue/Speech~
~Worst Overall Death Scene~
For Worst Death Scene...Aragorn's fake one.
For Worst Female Character...Arwen.
Hmm, this is hard!

Good topic! Let me see what I can do...
Worst Overall Villain: The pig-orc at the Pelennor Fields who should have been a lot scarier-looking.
Worst Monster/Creature Character:
Those big ugly mutant hyena things that have the nerve to call themselves "wargs".
Lëowen
03-03-2004, 05:03 PM
Hmm...
Worst Overall Character: Legolas! "A diversion!" That has to be one of the worst lines ever.
Worst Female Character: ARWEN *shudder*
Worst Male Character: Uh...can I say Legolas again?
Worst Comedic Character: Gimli. At least hobbits are supposed to be rather funny.
Rilwen Gamgee
03-03-2004, 05:45 PM
Let's see... Possible awards might be:
~ Best/worst hairstyle: (Any ideas?)
~ Most dramatic last line: Sam (He has the last line, so it MUST be dramatic! ;) )
Also, are we judging from the books or the movies?
Firefoot

I thought it was books...but everyone's replying for movies.
Best Death Scene: Boromir's
Worst Overall Villian: Sauron's spotlight eye
Best/Worst Female Character: Eowyn/Arwen
Worst Comedic Character: Gimli
Best Monologue: Aragorn's before the black gate

Since the Oscars is a movies award show, I intended the Mirthies tho be movie based also. But since nothing here on Middle Earth Mirth goes as planned it doesent really matter.Let 'controled' chaos ensue!!!

Nonono, no worsts in the books! Just movie worsts. Bests in the books are good.
I definately agree with Denethor being the Worst Death Scene.

Um, did Sleepy Ranger not just do that?
Here are my choices; they are a combination of the books and the movies:
Best overall character: Faramir (only person other than Aragorn who resisted the temptation of the Ring; exellent captain of the army)
Best male character: Aragorn (come on, he gets to be the king, and look at what he goes through to get there)
Best female character: Eowyn (takes out the Witch-King, need I say more?)
Best creature: Treebeard (best visual effects done on an inanimate object ever; plus his voice sounded exactly the way I thought it should)
Best monster: The Watcher in the Water (the scene was a little longer than it should have been, but the visuals were worth it)
Best villain: Sauruman (Sauron is just a flaming eyeball, Sauruman is much more active in carrying out his plans for world domination)
Best monologue: Aragorn's "This day we fight" speech (exellent, it set the tone for the scene very well; but his voice got a little funny in some places)
Best dramatic scene: Faramir and his men riding to their doom (Pippin's song added a lot more feeling to this scene, but it was good just by itself)
Best death scene: Boromir's (most realistic looking, plus most moving)
Best comic character: Pippin ("Fool of a Took!" and "What about elevenses, lunch, dinner, supper, afternoon tea?! He knows about those right?" kill me every time)
Best Maia: Gandalf (who knows how many centuries old, and he still kicks a$$)
Most missed chacter: Glorfindel (having Arwen rescue Frodo just killed that whole scene)
Best supporting character: Samwise Gamgee (do I really need to explain this one?)
And now for the other end of the stick:
Worst overall character: Sauron (he just stays in Barad-dur all the time and looks around; even Legolas is better than that)
Worst male character: Haldir (totally unnecessary at Helm's Deep, and his death scene was terrible)
Worst female character: Arwen (in far too many scenes, and her acting wasn't that great)
Worst creature: The Wargs (give me a break, they looked like hybrid hyenas!)
Worst monster: Shelob (about half the size I imagined, and not terribly frightening)
Worst villain: Sauron (see "Worst overall chacter")
Worst monologue: Any of Frodo's (well, his last one in "Return of the King" wasn't too bad, but he just killed the rest of them)
Worst dramatic scene: Faramir and Frodo squaring off over the one Ring (let me just say that this never happened that way, and Faramir resisted the temptation of the Ring)
Worst death scene: Haldir's (not in the book, and a waste of slow-motion effects which also made the awful scene longer)
Worst comic character: Gimli (I'm not even touching this one)
Worst Maia: Sauron (see "Worst villain")
Least missed chacter: Tom Bombadil (sorry, but his constant singing in the books really annoyed me)
Worst supporting character: Grima Wormtongue (reminded me too much of Snape from "Harry Potter")

I have filled in my ballot and there are no hanging chads ;)
Best Overall Character: Aragorn (He's the king!)
Best Female Character: Galadriel (I have always felt a connection to her)
Best Male Character: Aragorn (I love the man)
Best Cameo: Write in for Viggo's son (without him we wouldn't have had Viggo)
Best Villain: Saruman (I just shiver every time i see him)
Best Creature: Treebeard (He gave us a taste of Tom Bombadil)
Best Comedy: Pippin (It comes in pints)
Best Monolog: Aragorn (Rousing Courageous)
Best Death: Theoden (He made me cry)
Best Battle: Pellenor (One mumakil down, two mumakil down . . . )
Best Maia: Gandalf (Is there really any better?)
Best Dramatic Moment: Pippin's song/Faramir's charge (I listen to it every day)
Most pitied character: *Smeagol* (He's such a cute little thing)
Most missed: Tom Bombadil (Hey, his boots are yellow!)
Best Harido: Legolas (If you can fight battles without misplacing a strand - you must be good)
Worst overall character: Arwen (I can't believe she almost left!)
Worst female character: Arwen (stupid scene stealing, elf impersonating . . . .)
Worst Male Character: Elrond (He was mean, Elrond is not mean)
Worst Cameo: PJ's first (that was icky)
Worst Villain: Sauron's Eye (Gothmug was also Lux so I couldn't bring myself to vote for him)
Worst Monster: Shelob (Wasn't that scary)
Worst Monologue: Frodo (I just didn't like it)
Worst Maia: Sauron - when he was just an eye (he was cool with a body)
Worst Hairdo: Haldir (It didn't match his eyebrows)

Most missed scene: the Houses of Healing (this will change after EEE RotK)
Scene that made the most shivers run up my spine: the ending of the battle of Helm's Deep. That was just heroic. Runner-up: Galadriel's "but there were some who resisted. A last alliance of men and elves marched against the armies of Mordor...". It's also heroic!

Sorry about splitting up the category Sleepy.:( When I said that Faramir was the only other man who resisted the Ring, I meant just that. Sam may resemble a man, and hobbits may be distantly related to men, but as we don't entirely know this for certain I think of hobbits and men as two different races.
Huh, Aragorn's winning; there must not be any Leggy-boppers looking at this topic.

Hmmm.. this topic seems to have gotten a little out of hand, this is not quite what I had in mind.It looks like something that should be moved to the movies section.I didn't mean for you to take Oscar seriously.Example; Best overall character, Best cameo, etc... I meant for this to be a little more mirthical, maybe a little random just not too random.Maybe I should have asked you to think more along the lines of MTV movie awards. This was not supposed to turn into a poll to vote on.If I would have wanted that I would have put it in the movies as a poll.I meant for you to make up silly awards and give them to characters.
On a lighter note here's some examples.Forgive me if they're not too mirthical, I seem to lack in that category.
Best Scream/Shriek Award -Nazgul
Best or worst maybe spazing fit award- Frodo(nobody can do it like Frodo can.)
Captain Obvious Award- Legolas(for the "a divirsion" bit and something else I just can't think of it at the moment.)
Peace and sorry for the misunderstanding,

~Most missed character~ Glorfindel According to theonering.net, Glorfindel might not be missed at all, but supposedly appeared at the coronation! They've got pictures too...
Glorfindel pics (http://www.theonering.net/scrapbook/view/12658)
~Worst Female Character~ Arwen
~Worst Male Character~ Elrond - he scares me, especially when he smiles *shudders* Am I the only person who *likes* Arwen and Elrond? (I was mad at Elrond before ROTK, but after seeing his look at the coronation, I am no longer mad at him...), and I've always thought Arwen to be stronger than many others I won't name! ;) (and not in that "Xenarwen" way from FOTR, either...)
OK, so this is "The Mirthies" and not a beef thread...sometimes I just have to spout. Thanks for your indulgence! :)
Once I get the hang of it, perhaps I'll contribute!
Signing off from Cerin Amroth, Cheers!

Wait, is that "Best Nose" or "Biggest Nose"?;) (Curses upon the head of whoever got rid of the evil smiley!!!) Either way my vote doesn't change, and I'm not poking fun at Faramir.

Well, Gullum eats ugly too, but Denethor was worst I think, mainly because of the blood.

Best Attempted Ballet-like Fall by a Non-Ballet Student: Movie Frodo, for that fall in Mordor when he's supposed to be avoiding the Eye of Sauron.....
Best Eye-rolling: Movie Frodo again, it's rather obvious why.....
Best Bowage: (That has an odd ring to it......) The part of King Elessar's coronation where everyone bows to the hobbits.

Best Eye-rolling: Movie Frodo again, it's rather obvious why..... ... although Sauron was rather miffed not to be given the award for his performance during the destruction of the Tower of Barad-Dur. :D
