Gil-Galad

i have not seen any ToF threads around so i'll start one, but only about the movies

Haldir died in Middle Earth

Lindolirian
03-23-2004, 04:43 PM
Wait a sec, is it True or False contrasting the book to the movie, or just the movie? Cause in the Movie, yes Haldir died in Middle Earth, but in contrast to the books, he lives.

Gil-Galad
03-23-2004, 04:51 PM
correct! and it can be both, doesn't really matter

Lindolirian
03-23-2004, 05:33 PM
I'm still confused. Was the answer true because he did die in the movie or false because the movie was different from the book?

The Saucepan Man
03-23-2004, 07:34 PM
There is another True or False game here (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=4096&highlight=true), but since that covers both the films and the books, and this game covers the films only, this one is fine to continue.

In answer to Lindolirian's question, I would say that the answer should be based upon what happened in the films. So, for example, if the first statement was "Arwen rode with Frodo to the Ford of Bruinen", the correct answer would be "true", whereas if it was "Frodo rode on Glorfindel's horse to the Ford of Bruinen", the correct answer would be "false". Therefore, the correct answer to "Haldir dies in Middle-earth" must be "true". Does that make sense?

Also, as was discovered on the other thread, if someone answers "true" and the answer is "false" (or vice versa), the correct answer will be obvious to the next person posting. In other words, without more, there is a 50:50 chance of getting the answer correct. To overcome this, I would suggest that anyone answering "false" must also state the correct state of affairs relevant to the question (from the films).

For example:

Q: Merry and Pippin joined Frodo and Sam on their journey to Rivendell at Crickhollow.
A: False. Merry and Pippin joined the journey in Farmer Maggot's field.

If the answer "false" is given without the correct explanation, the questioner will be entitled to state simply that the answer is wrong, and leave it at that. Obviously, when answering "True", no more need be said.

OK. On with the game ...

Lindolirian
03-23-2004, 07:40 PM
Hmmm Thanks for clearing that up Pan Man.
Well Doesn't seem to be my cup of tea (kinda simplistic) with the wholeif someone answers "true" and the answer is "false" (or vice versa), the correct answer will be obvious to the next person posting. so, I'll just post the next question and get on my way...

True or False? The Hobbits got their swords from the Barrow Downs.

The Saucepan Man
03-23-2004, 07:42 PM
False. The Hobbits got their swords from Aragorn after leaving Bree.

Lindolirian
03-23-2004, 07:43 PM
Yuppers...

The Saucepan Man
03-23-2004, 07:52 PM
Thank, Lindol. :)

True or False? Legolas tells Aragorn that the Orcs that have captured Merry and Pippin are headed north-west to Isengard.

The Perky Ent
03-23-2004, 08:54 PM
False! To my recolection, which is very good for an ent, Legolas says The Uruk's turn Northeast! They're taking them to Isengard! Saruman!

So it's Northeast, not Northwest!

Nimikôi Angarauko
03-23-2004, 09:31 PM
but that doesnt make sense, geographically speaking, amon hen is east of isengard, as we all know, so to head from amon hen to isengard one would go west. Now the river isen basically goes due south through the gap of rohan so to say isengard is north east they would have to be dunland and if they were to go north east from dunland they would come on the non-wooded side of the mountains, and with all these things said it would make no sense to say north east unless it was some strange typo.

The Perky Ent
03-23-2004, 10:09 PM
I'm aware of that fact, but that's the way Orlando said it! Mabey it was a good take or something! I don't know

Nimikôi Angarauko
03-24-2004, 07:52 AM
i think my dain is bramaged new question please before my head explodes

The Saucepan Man
03-24-2004, 08:09 AM
Yup! He may have keen eyesight, but the hearthrob Elf has a lousy sense of direction. :D

You are quite right, Perky Ent. It was an error that, amazingly, no-one apparently spotted during filming or editing and, even more amazingly, was not over-dubbed for the Extended Edition.

The floor is yours, Perky. :)

Nimikôi Angarauko
03-24-2004, 01:12 PM
well to be a bit off topic here the extended editions aren't perfect they have their mistakes like in fellowship extended in one of the documentaries, can't remember which one, Bree is depicted at the southern most tip of the old forest but yeah any who take it perk.

The Perky Ent
03-24-2004, 08:31 PM
Pippin fought a troll at the Battle of the Black Gate. True or False?

NightKnight
03-25-2004, 11:50 AM
It's months since I watched it...but false? I don't think there were any trolls there?

Nimikôi Angarauko
03-25-2004, 02:37 PM
It is true, though they did not actually show the troll attack they something about it on cormallen fields, if i'm not mistaken.

The Perky Ent
03-25-2004, 04:37 PM
Nope! None are right:p, although KN is on the right track...

Arestevana
03-25-2004, 05:10 PM
False. I believe it was Gimli who fought the troll.

Gil-Galad
03-25-2004, 06:11 PM
False Aragorn fought the Udun Troll

The Perky Ent
03-25-2004, 07:55 PM
And the winner is....*drum roll*...Gil-Galad. According to the book, Pippin fought a troll, but because we need to pack in as much viggo action as we can get, Aragorn fought the troll. If you recall, if Frodo didn't destory the ring, according to the movie, Aragorn would have been killed by the troll....not that they wouldn't be killed anyway if frodo hadn't destoryed the ring ;)

Gil-Galad
03-26-2004, 06:40 PM
Pippin was with Gandalf when he went out to help Faramir and the rest of the Osgiliath defenders

NightKnight
03-27-2004, 05:26 AM
False. Gandalf rode alone.

Arvedui III
03-27-2004, 12:23 PM
True. Pippin was with him. Why he was, I dunno.

Gil-Galad
03-28-2004, 04:59 PM
Avredui is correct!

Arvedui III
03-30-2004, 08:00 PM
Cool. Herm...True or False? Faramir warned Frodo and Sam about Gollum?

The Perky Ent
03-30-2004, 09:09 PM
Well....i think true, because Faramir warned Frodo and Sam that if they didn't come, they'd shoot Gollum...so i'd say True!

Gil-Galad
03-31-2004, 08:11 AM
i think false... Faramir only talked to Gollum about the Cirith Ungol path, not frodo and sam

Elentarimir
03-31-2004, 11:59 AM
I would say True because in the small extended scene, Faramir questioned Gollum about Cirith Ungol, and then warned Frodo and Sam against going that way. I think he said there was a nameless terror that haunted that pass or something...

Estel'sAngel
03-31-2004, 04:02 PM
The answer to the question is true, I believe Faramir said: "Be careful, there is evil in his heart." or something to that affect in the movie, right before he grabs Gollum by the throat and says--> "If I find out you harmed them..." again, something to that affect. LOL...

So true, they were warned by Faramir.

Arvedui III
04-05-2004, 05:06 PM
And the answer is...True. He warned Frodo and Sam about Cirith Ungol in the EE. Very nice scene, that. So Elentarimir has it. Good job.

The Perky Ent
06-14-2004, 08:39 PM
*babershot quartet* 10 day rule, 10 day rule, 10 day rule, 10 day rule!!!!

True or False, Arathorn killed the orc with the shrunken head on its helmet, and Theoden killed the Pink orc commanding the orcs at Pelennor. Have fun!

Fingolfin II
06-15-2004, 01:25 AM
False, because Arathorn wasn't in the movies but his son Aragorn was? Is that a trick question or a mistake?

Gil-Galad
06-15-2004, 06:47 AM
darn...got to me before you! well its false for both anyway...though a Rohirrim did kill Gothmog

The Perky Ent
06-15-2004, 06:34 PM
D'oh! Stupid typo! You would be wrong Gil-Galad, had I not maken that mistake. It's because in my RPG i'm running, I play Arathorn. I use the word so much more the Aragorn now, and they're very familiar. Anyways, your right. Arathorn didn't kill the two headed orc  and Theoden didn't kill Gothmog. If anything, he was trampled by the horses. BTW, what's with his name, Gothmog? Isn't that suppost to be the Lord of the Balrogs or something? Anyways, your right!

Gil-Galad
06-16-2004, 06:43 AM
whos right? me? well there were many debates about Gothmog, too me i think hes a dark numenoreon(sp?) who took that name too be honoured among the forces of evil, that or tolkien ran out of names...

Lady of the Pants
06-23-2004, 02:43 AM
8 days down, 2 to go if Gil-Galad doesn't ask something. ;)

Sorry to be impatient, but True or False is easier than the other threads. :D

Gil-Galad
06-23-2004, 07:16 AM
patience...i like a dramatic entrance...or comeback whichever!

very easy

what did Sam say after Frodo got stabbed and they carried him into the Trollshaws

Lindir
06-23-2004, 10:35 AM
Was it , "look frodo, bilbo's trolls." i dunno

Gil-Galad
06-23-2004, 06:21 PM
meh close enough

"Look Mr.Frodo, its Mr.Bilbos trolls...you know the ones in his stories"

The Saucepan Man
06-23-2004, 07:22 PM
This is supposed to be True or False, so the question should be one to which the answer is either "true" or "false". For further clarification, check out the game rules on page one (as expanded by my first post).

Lindir
06-24-2004, 11:06 AM
Yah, I was wondering about that question...in that case I say that it was true, Sam did say that. :D

Gil-Galad
06-24-2004, 11:09 AM
my bad..exams got me a little day-dreaming..anyway Lindir you can go

Lindir
06-24-2004, 11:20 AM
Thanx ;)
Exams? Bleh! :p
Here goes:

"Somebody help me!" (It's in the Hobbit v.g.)

wilwarin538
06-24-2004, 12:18 PM
How is that a true or false question???

Lindir
06-24-2004, 12:24 PM
Sorry.. i'm thinking of another thread. The videogame quote thread...sorry  silly me..

anyway....here goes:
True or false: Eowyn stabs the witchking in the chest.

wilwarin538
06-24-2004, 04:00 PM
false she stabs gim in the face

Lindir
06-25-2004, 11:11 AM
yes....simple,simple.
Your turn :p

wilwarin538
06-25-2004, 12:46 PM
ok

(true or false) Arwen got a scratch on her left cheek in the fellowship.

Fingolfin II
06-25-2004, 06:23 PM
False- it was on her right cheek.

wilwarin538
06-25-2004, 06:44 PM
way to go,your turn.

Fingolfin II
06-25-2004, 07:31 PM
Cheers, wilwarin538.

True or false: Gil-galad was seen commanding the Elvish forces in Mordor at the start of FotR.

Kath
06-26-2004, 09:09 AM
I think false, I thought they showed Elrond doing it?

wilwarin538
06-26-2004, 10:51 AM
I think its true

PaleStar
06-26-2004, 12:35 PM
I don't think it's true....perhaps in the EE? I've seen a pic of Gil-Galad somewhere, from the movies...but I'm not sure.

Gil-Galad
06-26-2004, 12:37 PM
its true and i should no! you can see me impaleing an orc with my spear on a small ridge

Fingolfin II
06-26-2004, 07:49 PM
Kath's got it, it was false. Even though you can see Gil-galad somewhere in the scene, it's Elrond who's seen giving orders to the Elves.

Kath
06-27-2004, 09:25 AM
Oh good! I was getting a bit worried there with all the answers.
True or false:
It was Arwen that made Elrond reforge the shards of Narsil.

wilwarin538
06-27-2004, 10:15 AM
true

Kath
06-27-2004, 01:46 PM
Yep, your turn.

elronds_daughter
01-03-2005, 09:43 AM
Alrighty, since Wilwa's aparantly forgotten about this thread, here's a new one:

True or false: At Weathertop, Aragorn sets fire to one of the Nazgul after Frodo is stabbed by the Witch-King.

AbercrombieOfRohan
01-03-2005, 01:50 PM
True, and he runs off screaming with his arms in the air.

elronds_daughter
01-04-2005, 09:04 AM
Good, Abercrombie. <mutters> I knew that was too easy.... Anywhee, your go!

elronds_daughter
01-14-2005, 11:22 AM
Abercrombie?

AbercrombieOfRohan
01-14-2005, 09:11 PM
Whoops sorry! Forgot about this thread.

True or False: Farmer Maggot appears in the movie.

Gil-Galad
01-14-2005, 10:29 PM
True: you hear his dogs and only see his pitchfork, but hes there...

elronds_daughter
01-15-2005, 08:36 AM
True. He was the poor hobbit that one of the Nazgul decapitated. Poor guy.

AbercrombieOfRohan
01-15-2005, 12:24 PM
Gil-Gald's right its true, but neither of you have found the place where they actually show him in the movie. But since I didn't specify that you needed that go ahead gil-galad.

Gil-Galad
01-15-2005, 02:51 PM
k...

There were alot of characters that were mentioned in the books, but were never mentioned in the movies, but if yo ulook closely you can see them

True or False: Beregond talks in the movie

elronds_daughter
01-16-2005, 06:04 PM
Eeek! I truly have no idea, but.... Wild guess: False?

Gil-Galad
01-17-2005, 11:44 AM
nope he talks! sorry!

elronds_daughter
01-17-2005, 12:37 PM
As I said, 'twas a wild guess. But now you've given it away, so you must think up another, "Sugar.";):p

The Saucepan Man
01-17-2005, 01:24 PM
Gil-Galad, Beregond is not listed as a character on IMDb and a quick Google search turned up no reference to him as being a character in the film. Are you sure that he was a named speaking character?

Gil-Galad
01-17-2005, 04:44 PM
ah but he was...

http://minas.mythicdesigns.net/rotk/beregond/12.jpg

sorry for the size, but Ian Hughes plays beregond, though his name wasn't mentioned, i have found little things stating that he was (LOTR TCG for example)

The Saucepan Man
01-17-2005, 04:52 PM
According to IMDb (and as confirmed by some of the film threads here on the Downs), that character is named Irolas.

Gil-Galad
01-17-2005, 04:53 PM
Is he now? i'm pretty sure i saw him being mentioned as Beregond... well i know the actor that played Beregond, Ian Hughes, it was stated in quite a bit of minor LOTR movie fan sites

The Saucepan Man
01-17-2005, 05:02 PM
Well they were wrong. According to IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0400655/bio), the chaaracter was orginally to be named Beregond, but they changed the name to Irolas post-production. It seems he was meant to be Beregond's brother.

That makes it elronds_daughter's turn by my reckoning.

wilwarin538
01-17-2005, 06:39 PM
OH NO!!! It was my turn earlier and I missed it! :(  I can't believe I forgot about this thread. Well I guess I'll have to get the next question then.

~Wilwa~

elronds_daughter
01-18-2005, 07:15 PM
That makes it elronds_daughter's turn by my reckoning.
Thanks, Saucy, for the clarification and the turn.... But I believe I'll bequeath my turn to Gil-Galad and give him another chance.

Assasin
01-25-2005, 05:42 PM
Hey, I have a question for E_d: How was Maggot in the field if the Nazgul decapitated him? Or was it before that?

elronds_daughter
01-25-2005, 07:09 PM
I believe 'twas before the Nazgul entered the scene that Farmer Maggot was chasing the hapless Merry and Pippin. Forgive me if I'm wrong; I haven't watched FotR in a while.

The Saucepan Man
01-25-2005, 07:56 PM
I don't believe that it was Farmer Maggot who got decpitated by the Ringwaith. That unfortunate fellow was, I think, simply an anonymous Bounder. Farmer Maggot, played by Cameron Rhodes, was menaced by a Black Rider and retreated back indoors.

Now, let's get on with the game.

Gil-Galad?

Assasin
01-26-2005, 01:40 PM
Ooh yeah, I remember now! He was chopping wood and his dog started barking. :p

Gil-Galad
01-29-2005, 11:38 AM
many thanks elronds_daughter, you shall be remembered and your grave not disturbed...until saint patty's day...

True or False: Elrond mentioned a destination that most fans, who haven't read the books, know of

elronds_daughter
01-29-2005, 12:02 PM
You're much welcome. But why only until Saint Patty's Day?

I'll say that the answer to your question is "True."

Gil-Galad
01-29-2005, 03:45 PM
aye it was Valinor, your turn my dear

elronds_daughter
01-29-2005, 04:06 PM
Alrighty, here you be:

True or False: At the Grey Havens, Frodo embraces Merry first.

wilwarin538
01-29-2005, 04:10 PM
I think it is false..... I believe it was Pippin he hugged first. thats a hard one.

elronds_daughter
01-29-2005, 04:15 PM
Terribly sorry, Wilwa, but the correct answer is true... (you were hoping to get your lost turn back, weren't you? ;))

Here's another:

True or False: In the scene in Rohan where they toast the "victorious dead", Aragorn hesitates before taking a drink from the tankard of ale in his hand.

Gil-Galad
01-29-2005, 09:33 PM
That is true, for the brave and handsome Gil-Galad...err Haldir

elronds_daughter
01-30-2005, 01:35 PM
Correct, Gil-Galad. The thread is yours. Proceed.

Gil-Galad
01-30-2005, 03:19 PM
aye aye....

True or False: You can see two different colours of the Gondorian flag in one scene

elronds_daughter
01-30-2005, 03:28 PM
Hmm... Just because it sounds so far fetched, I'll say that it's true, though I've no idea what scene it might be.

Gil-Galad
01-30-2005, 03:40 PM
it is true, during faramirs failed attempt to retake Osgiliath, yo usee the riders holding black flags, then when they go back to gandalf on the wall watching them ride off, you see white flags in the back, your turn!

wilwarin538
02-03-2005, 05:12 PM
drat I was to slow for that one. :( :(

elronds_daughter
02-05-2005, 01:00 PM
Hmm. What to stump you with next..... Ah! I have it! Though (alas!) 'tis probably too easy....

True or False: In the tower of Cirith Ungol, Sam runs into (quite literally) four orcs on his way up the stairs.

Clarification: By "orc" I mean to encompass all variations on the species.

Gil-Galad
02-05-2005, 01:05 PM
i think thats false, it was only three

elronds_daughter
02-05-2005, 01:18 PM
There were four. Blast, now I shall have to wrack my brain in the effort of trying to stump you again! Let's try something similar....

True or False: One of the things Sam shouts when fighting aforementioned orcs on the stairs is, "That's for my old Gaffer!"

<sigh> 'Tis too easy...

Gil-Galad
02-05-2005, 01:19 PM
err...true?

elronds_daughter
02-05-2005, 02:38 PM
Your go, Gil-Galad. And you can't tell me that that was a wild guess. I shall refuse to believe you if you do.

Gil-Galad
02-05-2005, 02:46 PM
woopee...

T or F:Theoden says the name Grimbold 4 times in the movies

elronds_daughter
02-05-2005, 02:56 PM
I'll say "True." (correct me if I'm wrong... ;))

wilwarin538
02-05-2005, 06:54 PM
I say false

Gil-Galad
02-05-2005, 09:37 PM
Wilwa is finnally getting a chance! Theoden only says 3 times, and its all in ROTK(when rohan is summoned, at Dunharrow camp and at Pellenor fields)

wilwarin538
02-09-2005, 05:34 PM
Thank-you for my chance...........but I can't think of a question. :smokin: It's open to the first one who gets it. (all that work and I don't even know what to ask ;) )

Gil-Galad
02-09-2005, 07:25 PM
Fine i'll go again...

True or False:

The Chamber of Kings is in a seperate buildings then the Throne room

elronds_daughter
02-10-2005, 07:50 PM
...But what heinous spelling and grammar!

I shall say "False."

Gil-Galad
02-10-2005, 08:27 PM
its true, you have to take a bridge across...

True or False: heck i can't think of anything...next person can go

Assasin
02-11-2005, 02:05 AM
can I go?
True or false:
When he was confronted by the ring wraith, Farmer Maggot's dog was dark brown.

Vinyacoriel
02-12-2005, 01:36 PM
False: The dog was dark brown/ black (hard to see on my tv) on his back and part of his head and light brown on his legs

Assasin
02-12-2005, 07:45 PM
right. you're turn

Vinyacoriel
02-17-2005, 01:31 PM
Cool! Ummmmmm......

True or False: When Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli talk to the Eomer and Co., at the beginning of TTT, Gimli and Eomer have a disagreement about Galadriel.

Gil-Galad
02-17-2005, 02:23 PM
False, Gimli and Eomer don't even mention Galadriel i don't think...

Milady Revenwyn
02-17-2005, 02:29 PM
It is false. Gimli and Eomer didn't have that talk in the movie... I wish they had.

Vinyacoriel
02-19-2005, 09:18 PM
you got it Gil-Galad.

Gil-Galad
02-20-2005, 12:03 PM
Valinor was mentioned in the film?

(very easy i know)

elronds_daughter
02-20-2005, 02:14 PM
I believe the answer is True.

Gil-Galad
02-20-2005, 04:52 PM
yea go ahead...

elronds_daughter
05-14-2005, 01:42 PM
Good gracious, I've forgotten about this.

True or False: Denethor actually tells Faramir that he loves him.

Kath
05-14-2005, 01:50 PM
False? I think he never actually said itin so many words.

elronds_daughter
05-14-2005, 01:55 PM
Correct, Kath! Proceed.

Kath
05-14-2005, 02:08 PM
Hey doing well today!

True or False: There are four spikes on Orthanc

elronds_daughter
05-14-2005, 02:11 PM
I believe that's true.

Kath
05-14-2005, 02:20 PM
Yes indeed that is correct.
