Hello, quiz room addicts! This thread is dedicated to the Valar and thier doings, so have fun! Here's the first question:
Before Arda was created, what did Melkor seek in the Void?
Fingolfin II
04-09-2004, 01:22 AM
He sought the Imperishable Fire, but couldn't frind it since it was with Eru.
Saraphim
04-09-2004, 10:39 AM
Right, the thread is yours, Fingolfin II.
Fingolfin II
04-09-2004, 08:38 PM
Cheers, ok, here's and easy one:
Name the Feanturi.
The Perky Ent
04-09-2004, 09:21 PM
um...mandos and lorien
Fingolfin II
04-09-2004, 11:00 PM
Yep.
The Perky Ent
04-10-2004, 08:11 AM
Yay! OK, new one:
Another easy one: Name the Ithryn in their original spelling.
luthien-elvenprincess
04-10-2004, 03:21 PM
Alatar and Pallando
Firefoot
04-10-2004, 07:14 PM
Well, since you said Ithryn and not Ithryn Luin, I will guess Allatar, Pallando, Curumo (or Curunír if you prefer Sindarin), Olorin, and Aiwendil.
NightKnight
04-16-2004, 09:34 AM
Perky? Is Firefoot right?
The Perky Ent
04-16-2004, 10:20 AM
but of course!
Firefoot
04-16-2004, 02:30 PM
Alrighty, which of the Valar is also known by the name of Béma?
NightKnight
04-16-2004, 02:31 PM
Oromë?
Firefoot
04-16-2004, 02:36 PM
That was quick. Your turn.
NightKnight
04-16-2004, 02:38 PM
I try my best. :)
Who was the sister of the Fëanturi?
Aethelwine
04-16-2004, 02:44 PM
Why, that's Nienna.
Cheers mates!
Aethelwine.
NightKnight
04-16-2004, 02:45 PM
Absolutely. :)
Aethelwine
04-16-2004, 02:51 PM
Who's nickname meant 'Queen of the Earth' and what was that nickname?
Always liked that name myself, actually.
Cheers, mates!
Aethelwine.
NightKnight
04-16-2004, 02:52 PM
That would be Yavanna's nickname Kementari.
Aethelwine
04-16-2004, 02:55 PM
And right you are.
Cheers mates!
Aethelwine.
NightKnight
04-16-2004, 03:00 PM
Hmm...
Name three valar that "disappeared" from BoLT -> Silm.
Nilpaurion Felagund
04-17-2004, 03:28 AM
That would be Ómar-Amillo, Makar, and Meássë.
Ossë was a Vala in the Lost Tales, but he was demoted in the Silm. :)
NightKnight
04-17-2004, 03:48 AM
Excellent, your turn. :)
Aethelwine
04-19-2004, 01:25 AM
Nilpaurion ? Where o where are you?
Cheers mates!
Aethelwine.
Nilpaurion Felagund
04-20-2004, 02:17 AM
Who was Oromë's sister?
Fingolfin II
04-20-2004, 02:31 AM
Nessa, wife of Tulkas.
Nilpaurion Felagund
04-20-2004, 02:46 AM
Correct, as usual. :)
Fingolfin II
04-20-2004, 05:16 AM
It seems like only yesterday we were having so much fun on Familial Ties and Six Degrees.....anway, my question is pretty simple- which Vala "taught" two evil Maiar?
Aethelwine
04-20-2004, 07:27 AM
Melkor?
Cheers mates!
Aethelwine.
Maédhros
04-20-2004, 12:11 PM
Perhaps you are referring to Aulë, because both Sauron and Curumo were in the beginning maiar of Aulë that later turned into evil.
Or Melkor can be an answer because it could be that Melkor instructed some of the maiar that entered into his service. He could have instructed the 7 balrogs perhaps.
Aethelwine
04-20-2004, 02:38 PM
I agree Maédhros, there are many possibilitys.
We'll just have to wait for Fingolfin, and his answer... *bump*
I'm very impatient, I know...
Cheers mates!
Aethelwine.
Fingolfin II
04-21-2004, 02:36 AM
Sorry, I just realised this was pretty ambiguous. Maedhros is correct however with Aule. Sorry Aethelwine.
Aethelwine
04-21-2004, 03:55 AM
No problem, Fingolfin :) ;)
Cheers mates!
Aethelwine.
P.S. Look at the cool new icon! ^_^
Maédhros
04-21-2004, 07:57 AM
In the earlier legendarium, when the Valar assaulted Melkor, who was the Valar who was about to kneel before Melkor in order to deceive him and take him back to Valinórë?
NightKnight
04-21-2004, 08:00 AM
Manwë?
Maédhros
04-21-2004, 09:00 AM
That is correct. Your turn.
NightKnight
04-22-2004, 01:51 PM
Whose horse was named Nahar?
Firefoot
04-22-2004, 04:30 PM
Oromë's.
NightKnight
04-23-2004, 03:53 AM
Indeed. :)
Firefoot
04-23-2004, 04:53 AM
Hm, here's a cheap question: name all 14 Valar.
NightKnight
04-23-2004, 05:07 AM
Manwe, Ulmo, Aule, Orome, Lorien (Irmo), Mandos (Namo), Tulkas, Varda, Yavanna, Nienna, Nessa, Vaire, Vana and Este.
Firefoot
04-23-2004, 05:13 AM
Yes. :)
NightKnight
04-24-2004, 04:05 AM
So, which of these were the Aratar?
Fingolfin II
04-24-2004, 04:29 AM
They were: Manwë, Varda, Ulmo, Yavanna, Aulë, Mandos, Nienna and Oromë. Melkor was also an Aratar, but he isn't counted since he rebelled against the Valar.
NightKnight
04-24-2004, 06:16 AM
Right-o!
Aethelwine
04-28-2004, 04:46 AM
I'm really trying not to make a habit of this, but:
Bump-erty-bump!
Fingolfin II, where are thou?!
Have a nice eavesdrop,
Aethelwine.
Fingolfin II
04-29-2004, 01:24 AM
Wow, sorry, totally forgot about this thread.
Anyway, what were the names of Nienna's two brothers?
Aethelwine
04-29-2004, 01:56 AM
Well, that would be the Fëanturi, Námo ( or Mandos ) and Irmo ( or Lorien ).
Have a nice day!
Aethelwine.
Fingolfin II
04-29-2004, 02:41 AM
And that would be....correct!
Aethelwine
04-29-2004, 05:58 AM
I got it right!
Here we go:
Who took care of Míriel, after she had grown weary of living in Arda? Two names please.
Love,
Aethelwine.
Thorongil
04-29-2004, 07:41 AM
Lorien(Irmo) & Este?
Aethelwine
04-30-2004, 01:51 PM
You're right, Thorongil!
Go right ahead...
Navaer!
Aethelwine.
Thorongil
04-30-2004, 04:40 PM
Okay, an easy one...
What was the name of Orome's horn?
Bombadil
04-30-2004, 05:00 PM
Valaróma?
Thorongil
04-30-2004, 05:04 PM
Yup.
Bombadil
04-30-2004, 07:56 PM
What is a possible name for the arrangement of stars created by Varda, known today to be the Big Dipper?
Fingolfin II
04-30-2004, 08:17 PM
The Sickle of the Valar?
Bombadil
04-30-2004, 08:48 PM
of course! you're up!
Fingolfin II
04-30-2004, 09:16 PM
What were the names of the two lamps of the Valar and who wrought them?
Saraphim
04-30-2004, 11:44 PM
Illuin and Ormal, wrought by Aule, I think.
Fingolfin II
05-01-2004, 12:50 AM
You think right.
Saraphim
05-04-2004, 09:00 PM
Arg. Sorry guys. The whole Barrow-Downs birthday party screwed me up.
Anyway:
What was Manwe's surname and what did it mean?
Thorongil
05-04-2004, 11:01 PM
Wasn't it Sulimo meaning High King of Arda or something like that?
Fingolfin II
05-05-2004, 01:57 AM
Doesn't it mean lord of the airs? 'Sul' means breath, so therefore would it be Lord of the Breath of Arda?
Nilpaurion Felagund
05-05-2004, 02:12 AM
Súlimo - Lord of the winds.
Saraphim
05-05-2004, 04:16 PM
Nilpaurion Felagund is correct!!!
Aethelwine
05-15-2004, 11:34 AM
Seeing as ten days have already past, and I would love to see this topic active again, I'll ask a new question:
What is special about the term 'Valier'? And I don't mean the fact that it's used to describe the Valar that took on a female form.
Have fun!
Aethelwine.
Son of Númenor
05-15-2004, 02:39 PM
It was only ever used by Tolkien in the Valaquenta?
Aethelwine
05-16-2004, 04:25 AM
Well done, Son of Númenor!
It's your turn now.
Cheers!
Aethelwine.
Elwe Singollo
06-07-2004, 06:47 AM
What does Elentári mean?
NightKnight
06-07-2004, 08:44 AM
Queen of the Stars.
