Where were the Important Folks

In the Last Alliance with Men and Elves........where was Glorfindel, Gandalf,Legolas, and Haldir? Were they fighting another battle off somewhere else? these people didnt appear in this section of the book and i am curious as to where these people are at this moment in time when others like Elrond and Gil-Galad are in battle against Saroun. Now if anyone knows the TRUTH and not just making it up please tell me . :eek: :confused:

Well Gandalf dosen't even appear in Middle Earth for another 1000 years after the Last Alliance (He comes from Valinor sent by the Valar.) Glorfindel probably came with him. As for Legolas and Haldir, they may have been at that battle, we're not told, they may not even have been born at that point. On a side note Legolas' grandfather, Oropher was at the Battle of the Last Alliance.

As you might have noticed, said section of the book isn't terribly detailed. You'd have to make up your own mind whether unimportant people like Haldir were there or not.

Gandalf did not arrive in Middle-earth until 1000 years into the Third Age; the Last Alliance was the conclusion of the Second Age.

Glorfindel died late in the First Age in the Fall of Gondolin and was not sent back to Middle-earth until the Third Age, possibly with Gandalf and the other four wizards.

It seems likely that Legolas was not born yet or was too young to go since he makes no mention of having been to Mordor previously in the conversations found in The Lord of the Rings. Either way, he would not have been an 'important' figure at that time.

It's not certain that Haldir was alive either, but he was not an important character at any point in the story. Mentioning his involvement would be of little value to the narrative.

Doesn't it say somewhere (I can't recall currently at this time), that Legolas was one of the few elves to be born in the third age? (which would mean that he was not born at the time of the Last Alliance)

If Haldir was alive at the time. He most likely would have been there. I could just not see him sitting out of a battle such as that one.

But with Haldir we truthfully just don't know... So if you would like him to have been there he can be :cool:

Is it mentioned that the elves of Lorien went with the Last Alliance? If not, I don't think Haldir was there.

Lorien did not exist (as we know it from the WoTR) during that time, Galadriel and Celeborn had not yet taken up abode there (if i am correct!) and the elvish population of lorien were silvan elves, who may or may not have attended the battle; they probably did... but really, Haldir was another interesting minor character who had only a small part in the history of Middle Earth.


It's more likely that the small ammount of elves in lorien ran up their trees and hid at the first sight of trouble, they'd be even more rustic than Thranduil's people.

Where did you people get your information? I haven't read half of that, and I thought I'd read the books pretty thoroughly.
