My save is filled in...

Rôg, Freyn, Elwe, and Galhardir -- please note that Luindal has described where you are as the boats are loaded. If anyone has any objections to their location, let me know and I'll edit....

Let's get the barrels up. Nothing will happen till they are on deck. And hey I wouldn't mind having one or two barrels get a good hard knock in the process!

Hey, Child, git your hands off those barrels! It's not so comfortable in here.

I am up late packing. I leave tomorrow right after school. My class is going to a place called "Rivendell Ranch" for a kind of retreat. I swear that's the name of it. I wonder how they got a name like that?

Anyways I was waiting for the saves to fill in before I posted. Only now I won't be home till Sunday late. :( I'm going to do a save in Friday morning but won't fill it in till very late Sunday. Hope this is alright, Pio, under the circumstances.

I'll make sure to put up a little outline saying what I'm going to do so you will all know.....

Slipping into the coimputer room during lunchand typing quickly...

I got my save up. I will be busy climbing the mast so someone else needs to start the fight.

Luindal -- Once all the barrels are on board, could you get suspicious and start prying away the lid on one container? Then, before you can pry it open all the way, one or more of the Lossoth allies who brought the barrels on board should charage Luindal and yell out a warning to the other Corsairs to push their way to the outside, and the battle begins.

Actually, I need you guys to give me cover for what I'm doing up there in the mast. :p Everyone can post their part in the fight.

End result will be a quick tussle with only minor injuries. The Corsairs and allies will be chased off the ship, and I'll manage to get off on my own and will be smiling pretty.....

See you after I get back.

I've reserved myself a save, as I think it's the right spot in the narrative of the story, but I will wait until Regin has posted for Marreth before I fill it in, so I don't mess up his posting! So if it's longer than 24 hours, please consider this as my 'excuse' - it beats my long ago favourite homework excuse of 'the dog ate it' anyway. ;) Anyhow, it will just be some narrative about barrels and corsairs, if you folks need to know! Cheers.

Regin, Cami

Annû and his Lossoth helpers have tipped the barrels over, rolled them across the deck, and put them in groups - sorted out by little marks they assume denote the contents.

The Corsair captain's barrel was unmarked - they rolled it to a place by itself.

Hope this is OK. Will edit as needed.

Arry,

This looks fine.

I have filled in my save but hopped it forward at the end of the line. Could everyone please fill in your saves.....Luindal go ahead with the discovery of the Corsairs. I will get "boring" with my tool and everyone else can soon begin fighting!

At last! Filled in my save! I managed to write it in between having a root canal, a meeting and sorting out a bunch of video conferences and got it posted in a last-minute dash, at the same time as extracting my CD from the computer, shutting down my scanner and hiding my desk keys - all in the knowledge that I had to run because half the lifts were out of order!

Anyways, Regin - can Tarn do a bit of fighting or does he have to scram with the boats? If he's not wanted for fighting, i.e. if it doesn't 'fit', then I could have him ready to help rescue the Corsairs?

Lalwende,

Many thanks for that post. Looking good!

Fighting is fine if that is what you'd like. Presumably you would come on board after the barrels are all set out on the deck to shake hands on the deal. You'd be there when Luindal discovers a Corsair in one of them. Child - you can even mention that in Luindal's next post.

Hope Tarn and Nilak remembered to carry a concealed sword or another weapon.

Excellent! I like to write a little fighting now and then. ;) Tarn does have his knife hidden in his inside pocket. It is supposed to be for skinning and gutting catches after a hunt, but he doesn't hunt much any more, so why does he carry it about with him everywhere? He's always ready for a fight... And remember he's handy with his fists, if anyone wants to throw a jab at him. ;)

I received a note from Rinfanawen apologizing that she has been away. Unfortunately, her schedule is full and she has asked to withdraw from the game. :( We are free to do with her character whatever we want to. I'll post for her over the weekend to get a battle scene in.

Arry - Excellent (puts hands together in an evil fashion like Mr Burns). Annu should get ready for a fight! That won't be the first time Tarn's had his nose broken and he doesn't take a challenge lightly. ;)

I've done a 'save' as it's a bit distracting writing right now, as the blitz is being re-enacted outside (bonfire night...) but I shall be writing of painful noses and throwing punches tomorrow. :p

I hope someone can take over Rinfanawen's character as the bad guys cannot be diminished in number. But I know what she means about being busy; had a week from hell last week trying to do 5 days' work in 4, 'cause I was going on strike - which kinda defeats the object. ;) But I've been loaned one of these pocket PCs, which may well come in handy for some crafty writing...

Arry - you've really given Tarn a pummelling there. But that knife he has, it's really disgusting, he uses it to skin kills when he's out hunting. There might be some kind of foul bacteria on there, or they may not be, but just thinking about the possibility is quite sickening. :)

Regin - that sounds good, I think he'll definitely need some help there! Being ripped apart by a bird of prey - what a horrible thing to happen. I think the bird may have ripped off the top of his ear in its frenzy. I would have described the attack, but it would make more sense to kind of have him hanging over the railings, or tangled in the rigging, bleeding profusely and semi-conscious, and needing the help of Marreth and the Corsairs. Should be plenty to go on there. :)

Don't worry though, he'll bounce back...

By the way, for Arry and Pio - Cheers! I've enjoyed that!

Here's my post! :)

Post by Lalwende for Pio to post.

Lalwendë's post

As if the pain in his chest were not bad enough, a sudden searing pain gripped Tarn’s head and he couldn’t help but let out a loud groan. He put his hands up to the top of his head, to find his hair matted with fresh blood. Clumps of hair and skin fell away in his fingers. But what was the shrieking noise? He thought he was going mad, or that maybe he had died and was meeting some kind of dark devil. He opened his eyes and looked up, just in time to see the blur of wings and claws swooping down at him for another attack.

Putting his head down just in time, he attempted to cover it with his hands, to protect it from another attack. But this thing was relentless. It wanted to hurt him. Whatever he did to cover his head, it was determined.

He felt a surge of pain at the side of his head and fell sideways. Looking up, he saw a Merlin with a piece of his ear in its beak, and he almost fainted. Covering his eyes with one hand, he lashed out wildly with the other. He hit nothing but air, the bird was too swift for his confused, half-conscious flailing. Staggering to his feet, almost falling back down again, he lurched towards the side of the ship, blinded by madness and fear.

Ripped apart, with a broken nose and ribs, missing part of his ear and bleeding profusely, Tarn collapsed over the railing at the very edge of the deck. His arm caught in the rigging and prevented his half conscious body from falling into the icy waters. As he hung there, the ship tossed about on the waves and a plume of spray splashed his face, waking him from his nightmare. He opened his eyes and heard the voice of Marreth, urging the other men to escape.

I'm thinking up my next post for Tarn, and I was going to obviously have him on the ship suffering badly; while I was thinking about it, I thought, 'ah, there is the Corsair who he helped on the ice, he would be there too'. Cheers! I will make sure to do this - now I need to hurry up and think of a name for 'anonymous injured corsair' as he is known to me right now...

EDIT:
As already mentioned I want to mention an injured Corsair in my next post where Tarn is lying in agony on the Corsair ship after his thorough pasting at the hands of Annu. This is the Corsair who Tarn helped off the ice after the battle there.

Regan - A Corsair sailor, he is in his late thirties, around the same age as Tarn. He has dark hair and a black beard. He is a hardened sea-dog, and carries around his flask of fiery spirit everywhere with him; he finds it can also be a useful thing to offer to any man whose comradeship he wishes to foster. This is how he got to know Tarn, when the holes in the ice were being dug. Tarn rescued him from the ice, and he was not in the latest battle. He helps Tarn out in his turn now.

What's the next move then?

Lalwende (and everyone else) --

We're coming around to the final few weeks of our game. Here is the general outline we'll be working from:

1. Elves find and take the large Stone. Mild storm blows up, their ship struggles to stay off the sandbar, and the ship’s mast cracks (courtesy of Marreth). Elves struggle to rig up a temporary sail.

2. Meanwhile, Corsairs are watching and come roaring out to the same spot. Using seals, they retrieve the second, smaller Stone.

3. Elves manage to regain limited sailing power. They come towards the Corsair vessel intending to attack.

3. Marreth orders the Elven ship to halt: he demands the Elves turn over the larger stone or the kidnapped Elf will walk the plank. :D

4. At this point, I understand that Luindal has a slight trick up his sleeve. (Drat that Elf!)

4. The two ships draw abreast and general combat ensues….

Imladris

Could you send me a note how you'd like to resolve (or intensify) the relations between Jynne and Marreth? I would like some help on this. Let me know what you had in mind, I'll get back with you. I also have one possible idea which I will forward to you.

I'll do a short post for the save spot where Marreth hears about Diera's death and has his suspicions but resolves not to do anything till he is certain.... (At this point, you are as likely to end up on that plank as the female Elf!) We need to make a decision quickly on this since the game is drawing nearer to the end.

We are almost at the end? :( All things must pass... I shall relish every moment left to the game then. This has been my first RPG here, apart from the 'Dragon, and I hope I shall find another good one afterwards. Had a good idea for a game myself, but I'm nowhere near brave enough to have a go at running any games; I'll sit on it for a while I think.

I will concentrate on getting Tarn ready to get out to join in with the final battle. He should also be ready with the seals. I've grown quite fond of the rogue, so let's hope he comes to no further harm. ;)

Hope you don't mind, but I've put both of you in the big boat with Annû.

Imladris, Niluial,

We still have a loose thread hanging in the game. See post #199. It is where Jynne tries to start a conversation with Andtuariel. The female Elf doesn't answer.

I have two suggestions how to tie this up fast. Both involve edits to post 199 by Imladris. Since this happened some while ago in the game, I prefer we slightly change Jynne's post rather than having a response by Niluial.

Either we could have the last sentence of the post be the Elf glaring back at Jynne, or perhaps spitting in his face. (Don't know if she is too delicate to do that?) Or Imladris could edit by not saying anything to her, but just staring at her and thinking something evil. This would just involve the final sentence or two.

Could you two decide either by pms or on the discussion thread and have Imaldris make the change? Please do this by Friday morning, or let me know if there's a problem.

Many thanks.

Speaking of saves that didn't get filled.....Ishould talk. Sorry about mine. I have half a day of school today (yeah!) and will get at it this afternoon.

Edit done, and save put up. I fear I have been robbed of my revenge. That poison looks to do its work before I can even get a good jab in! I will be glad to describe it from that angle.....

Would you object if Jynne's final jab at Marreth as he lies dying would be to reveal who hired him and for what purpose? This seems suitable for Jynne andwill provide Marreth with a real conundrum.... At first, the poor Corsair will not believe his ears, but he can later confirm this piece of information by rummaging through Jynne's papers. He won't be pleased.

Would you want me to finish Jynne off in my own post, or shall I just lead up to the point of his dying and the revelation for you to write? .....Or did you have something else in mind?

Pio,

I was going to put up a save for when the Corsair ship goes out in the Bay and sees the large Stone being lifted onto the deck of the Elven ship. However, I think this should go before Imaldris' post where Jarlyn dies. If Marreth knew that his officer and close friend had croaked, he would probably need to deal with that--at least mentally--especially since he's lost his two most trusted officers within the space of twenty-four hours. I would rather wait to deal with all that till nearer the end of the game.

So could I put my post on the discussion thread and then you could paste it in right after yours where you haul the Stone up?

That way, Marreth and his men will all be too busy to check on Jarlyn in his cabin, at least for the moment.

I really hope to get this post done today after school. Otherwise, it won't be till Sunday that I have a free minute.

Here is my post for the save space.... Pio, could you paste this in?

Marreth had never suspected Lord Castamir to be spying on himself. Had he always been monitoring Marreth, or was this an extra precaution that had been taken to safeguard the Palantiri? Marreth had never been focused on the Stones themselves, because his use for them was limited. He did not have political aspirations, preferring to voyage the sea in search of lute and plunder, rather than hatching schemes inside an office. Vengeance welled deep in his heart against the Gondorians, the murderers of his father, and the personal glory he would gain both mattered much more to him than actually using the Stones. But betrayal, either by Lord Castamir or his agent, made Marreth’s blood boil like the water in his tea kettle. Marreth vowed to seize these powerful weapons and use them against Gondor, because of the anguish he knew it would cause to Castamir, watching his most desired treasure being reaped by another.

His eyes scaned the horizon, and Marreth began to pull his thoughts away from the vile Castamir and focus on the immediate task of securing the Palantiri. Marreth had not succeeded so far, but he realized that his mission must continue, whatever the betrayal Castamir had made, since the thought of allowing the Stones to reach Gondor caused a visceral pain in his stomach.

As he sat weighing yet another tactic to use against the Elves, he saw something sparkling in the dull blue waters. Marreth turned his head and watched in horror as the Elvish ship pulled a large opaque stone from the sea using a winch and nets. Beside the ship, Marreth noticed a seal barking towards one of the Elves on board who then flashing a big grin, which he thought was rather odd. The seal, once on board the smaller ship, changed shape into a man with brown hair and olive skin before Marreth’s very eyes. Marreth had heard of shapechangers before in tales told on his travels, but he had never actually seen one. So that’s how they found it, thought Marreth. Even with the most trained seal, a human would be able to search out the Stones and find them faster than the Corsairs ever would.

After he stopped cursing and kicking furniture, Marreth calmed down enough to realize that if the Elves have found one Stone, the other probably would not be far away. All they had to do was find it, it, attack the Luindal's ship, capture the other Palantiri, and send those on board to a grave on the ocean floor below the wall of ice which would soon cover the water’s surface. Marreth was confident of his victory because, although he could handle the sword deftly, his greatest strength lie on naval warfare, where his ship was swifter than a shark.

With a holler, Marreth blared to the ship’s crew, “Boys, it was a bad bit of luck that the Elves got the first Palantiri, but there’s still another one out there. And we are going to go out and get it before those stinking Elves do. It probably isn’t too far from the spot that they found the first one. After we take the other stone, we will launch an attack on those Elvish vermin so hard that their ship will be shattered into driftwood. Let’s get moving.”

I am off of school tomorrow and hope to fill in my save then.

The seizing of the second stone should lead into the concluding battle scenes. :D Hope everyone will find time to add in a final post to help wrap things up.

Please note I have removed your SAVE. It's been a week now since it was put on the game thread.

If you'd like to post something to do with the earlier part of the game, please place it on the Discussion thread with direction of where you would like it to go, and either I or Cami will place it for you.

Thanks!

My save is filled. The dastardly Corsairs are signalling to the Elven ship. We shall see what they want..... :p

I've used a number of characters in my own post very briefly in order to forward the action. If anyone is uncomfortable with what I've done in terms of their particular character, just let me know and we can change it.

Whoops! Speaking of unfilled saves....

This holiday weekend has turned out more hectic than I thought. I won't get to fill in my save till Saturday night or, at worse, Sunday. But I have written down what's going to happen. So if you want to go ahead from there before I fill in, please do.

Any character that goes missing for a two week period of time can be "killed off" or "lost" and will be out of the game. - The Red Book of Westmarch

Niluial

You have not posted to the game since 11/03 (excluding your SAVE of 11/16 which was never filled in).

Your characters will now be assigned to other players to carry-along, and may be killed off.

Thanks Lalwende! You sure beat me as far as getting things done fast. I did fill in my save, but this week is tough. Our play Mame, that's been in rehearsal for weeks, is finally being performed. It's showing tonight, tomorrow, and this weekend, plus I still have to get through regular school and homework.

I've put up another save and will try to do at least a short post late tomorrow night after I get home from the play.

Heh. I hardly did anything to Tarn. ;) He got less than he deserved....

Anyway, my save is filled.

Letting the oar slip his hands it fell to the deck with a low sound.

“Don’t…” Annû whispered, but it was too late.

Please note Lalwendë:

The final sentences in my post can mean two things; 1) either Tarn killed Annû while Galhardir let go of the oar, or, 2) that Annû was too late when he said "don't" because Galhardir already slipped the oar. Eh...Do you understand?

I wanted it to be a bit "open" so that you could continue how you'd like. So either Annû is dead, or he just just expressed his "concerns" regarding Galhardir letting his only weapon, the oar, go. It's really up to you. :)

I hope it's alright, of not, pelase do tell me where to edit. :-D

Cheers,
Oro

Great writing everyone! We want to have the game totally finished by Wednesday, December 15. Can we try to get the fighting wrapped up by the evening of Monday the 11th, so we have two days left to tie up lose ends? More ideas on that later today.....

On Regin's suggestion, I have pushed the plot through to the final scenes.

Everyone is welcome to add a final post saying what happened to their characters. Please try to have those up by the evening of the 15th (Thursday night) so Pio can lock the game down and take it to Elvenhome sometime on the 16th (Friday).

I have to say, this was such good fun, and I've enjoyed it so much. That was my very first proper RPG and I have quite firmly caught the 'bug'. I couldn't 'kill off' my character though - I though it might be nice for him to learn something from his actions and leave the game with some hope for a better future. :)

I've put up a save I hope to fill this evening where Marreth will make his escape.

There is just one more post to go after that. I've been in contact with Imladris. (We planned this for some time.)
