Lúthien: Iris by Goo-Goo Dolls.

Elves in general during the Third Age: Somewhere Only We Know by Keane.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
So Eldarinly melancholic. Keane rocks.

For Sauron, "Every Breath You Take" by The Police:
"Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you
Oh can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you
Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby please
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you"

Sorry to go a bit OT here, but: Sam & Gaffer "Father and Son" Cat Stevens ( NOT Westlife - puhleaze). Mith, t'was Boyzone who did a remake of Father and Son. Quite good, IMO. :)
Back on topic now!
Aragorn and Arwen - Over the hills and far away (take out the pistol part, and the rest goes well, especially the chorus!)
Denethor - I 'm going slightly mad (Queen) - slightly, eh!
Speaking of Queen:
Dwarves: 'We will rock you' (that one was kind of cheap, I know... :p )
Aragorn/Frodo/Gandalf: Wanted dead or alive (Bon Jovi)
You know what would be Shelob's perfect theme song though? 'Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me'. What, think it's too cheesy? :p

How about "Thriller"? ;)
"It's Close To Midnight And Something Evil's Lurking In The Dark
Under The Moonlight You See A Sight That Almost Stops Your Heart
You Try To Scream But Terror Takes The Sound Before You Make It
You Start To Freeze As Horror Looks You Right Between The Eyes,
You're Paralyzed
'Cause This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
And No One's Gonna Save You From The Beast About To Strike
You Know It's Thriller, Thriller Night
You're Fighting For Your Life Inside A Killer, Thriller
Tonight
You Hear The Door Slam And Realize There's Nowhere Left To Run
You Feel The Cold Hand And Wonder If You'll Ever See The Sun
You Close Your Eyes And Hope That This Is Just Imagination
But All The While You Hear The Creature Creepin' Up Behind
You're Out Of Time
'Cause This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
There Ain't No Second Chance Against The Thing With Forty Eyes
You Know It's Thriller, Thriller Night
You're Fighting For Your Life Inside Of Killer, Thriller Tonight"

The Ring - How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead

hmm... where to start...
Aragorn: "I was born on the other side/of a town ripped in two/i made it over the great divide/now i'm coming for you..." ~ John Cameron Mitchell
I really don't know why but, I tend to compare "divide" by the fact that Aragorn spent most of his time in the north (the two different kingdoms that were ruled by the numenoreans) before the fellowship. Another is "town ripped in two" (the fact that men where 'divided' in middle earth, or in other words, too many past disputes and grudges.)
Faramir: "The perfect Fit" ~ Dresden Dolls... A lovely piano rock song about a not-so-perfect being, forced to be. "i can't fix a car/but i can fix a flat/i could fix alot of things/but i'd rather not get into that"... "
Another for Aragorn is: "Half Jack" ~ Dresden Dolls
Well, i've done my share. Until next time...

Hah! Thought of one.
"Comfortably Numb" by the ever-glorious Pink Floyd describes Theoden under the influence of Saruman and Grima. Of course, the extent of his deterioration and helplessness depends on whether you go by the book or movie version of Theodon, but either way it's applicable. Lyrics hither (http://lyred.com/lyrics/Pink+Floyd/The+Wall/Comfortably+Numb/) for those of ye who are unfamiliar with the lovely tune.
I wonder if that's a crime in M-E... RUI: Ruling Under the Influence. Hah. Oh, don't mind me, too much history and a surplus of Supreme Court cases are making me delerious. Four AP American History essays down, one to go. I'm so efficient. :p

Balrogs: Fallin' by someone (I forgot--too many local versions!)
I'm afraid to fly
And I don't know why
I'm jealous of the people who are not afraid to die
It's just that that I recall
Back when I was small
Someone told me that I could fly
But then it's really false
And now I'm fallin'
Fallin' fast again . . .

Frodo and Sam while in Cirith Ungol- Boris the Spider by The Who.
Nasgul- Ride of the Valkyries (sp?) or Flight of the Bumblebee I know they can't sing it, but I think it would be cool to have that playing in the background every time they rode somewhere.
Grima- I Can't Get No Satisfaction
Sauron- These Eyes... er... maybe This Eye.

Mine is a little different....I just put parts of songs that I think of when i see certain parts of the movie
Denethor: Come on baby light my fire
Pip and Merry: The run is on, the jig is up, they've finally found me
Boromir: Walk like a man
Gandalf: Fly like an Eagle
Frodo: If I could turn back time
Arwen: And I need you now tonight, and I need you more than ever
Aragorn: Wanderer, yeah I'm the wanderer
Sam: Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me
Gollum: Why can't we be friends

Got a few more (I've been watching cartoons, if you're wondering :))
Hobbits: (esp. Pippin): 'The Bare Necessities': Look for the bare necesities/ forget about your worries and your strife/, Old Mother's nature recipes'...etc
the Fellowship: That's what friends are for: "We're your friends/ till the bitter end...'
Saruman (and/or Grima) - Kaa's (the snake) song - come to think of it, Grima strikes me as a very reptilian sort of person ;): 'Trust in me, just in me, you can sleep safe and sound, Knowing I am around.'
And for the Nazgul: "Walking in the air": We're walking in the air/ We're floating in the moonlit sky/ And people all around/ Will great us as we fly.' (yeah, with yells and arrows)
Oh and for Aragorn and Arwen this would be their theme song: Once upon a dream, because it illustrates very well the fact that their love mirrors that of Luthien and Beren. Check out the lyrics: (corny as they may be):
I know you
I walked with you once upon a dream.
I know you
The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Yes, I know it's true
that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
the way you did once upon a dream

"Imagine me and you, I do

So happy together...
I can't see me stalking nobody but you,
For all your life!

SYMPATHY FOR SAURON (THE TROLLING STONES)
I fell in to a burning crack of fire
Went down down down
And the flames went higher
And it burns burns burns
The Ring of Power
The Ring of Power
Lust is a burning thing
And it made
A fiery ring
Flamed by wild desire
I fell in to a crack of fire
The taste of fish is sweet
When both of my teeth meet
But I went really wild
When I got back my Precious child.

Aragorn -'Was I right or Wrong' - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Once I was a tumblin' weed
Like a rollin' stone, cold and all alone
Living for the day my train would come "
Eowyn- 'Redneck Woman' - Gretchen Wilson
"Well I ain't never been the Barbie doll type."
Aragorn to Arwen - 'When I Think About Cheatin' '- Gretchen Wilson
"When I think About cheatin' I just think about you leavin
and how my world would fall to pieces if I tossed your love away
even when I'm temped by some stranger oh there's never any danger
I just think about you leavin when I think about cheatin' "
Aragorn (again sorry lol) - Forever - Kid Rock
" Oh I'm back the fog is lifted the earth has shifted to raise the gifted
you knew I'd be back so pack your bone and hit the road Jack cause daddy's home."

They teach him right but he knows they're wrong
He sees in silence
They tell him stop, but he wants to move on
Spread the wings to fly them

And if the light should turn and leave you blinded
Take the dream and give it one more try.

Sorry for using the same song...but it suddenly dawned on me that another part of Linkin Park's Numb was so appropriate for Faramir.
I'm tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface
I don't know what you're expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
And every second I waste is more than I can take

This Ring (movie Frodo)
I was so high
I only recognized the fire burning in his Eye
The chaos that controlled my mind
Whispered goodbye, Sam stepped on a stone
Never to return again
But always in my heart ... (I guess)
This Ring has talken its toll on me
I've never said goodbye to him ever before
And his heart is breaking in front of me
But I have no choice
'Cause I don't have lembas anymore

original song: All tomorrow's Parties by Velvet Underground
What costume shall the poor orc wear
To all tomorrow's raiding parties
A hand-me-down dress from who knows where
To all tomorrow's raiding parties
And where will he go and what shall he be
When midnight comes around
He'll turn once more to Sauron's clown
And cry behind the black gate
And what costume shall the poor orc wear
To all tomorrow's raiding parties
Why silks and linens of yesterday's gowns
To all tomorrow's raiding parties
And what will he do with Balrog's rags
When the field of Cormallen comes around
he'll turn once more to Sauron's clown
And cry behind the black gate
And what costume shall the poor orc wear
To all tomorrow's raiding parties
For Melkor's child is Sauron's clown
For whom none will go mourning
A blackened shroud, a hand-me-down gown
Of rags and silks, a costume
It's fine for one who sits and cries
For all tomorrow's raiding parties
What do you think?

So put down your books and bow to the One!
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun!
"And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for?
Don't ask me, I don't give a fuss!
Next stop is Edoras!
"And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the old black gate,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,

Ok. Let's not make this completely off topic:
Theme song for the for the Ride of the Rohirrim: Valley of the Damned by Dragonforce. Especially this part:
"On the wings of death by the hands of doom
By the darkest light from the darkest moon
Crossing silent seas over mountains high
For we stand as one tonight
On the black wind forever we ride on together
Destroying your evil with freedom our guide
When the master will storm us
He'll stand high before us
Our hearts filled with splendour
Our swords will shine over the light
On the wings of life, by the hands of hope
By the brightest light from the brightest sun
Crossing silent seas over mountains high"
'Broken' by Sonata Arctica has two lines that make me think LOTR:
Fell in love with the weakness within me.
Tried to force me the Ring and own me.
This sounds just like the Ringwraiths would say to Sauron...of course in the original context of the song the meaning is totally different. :p
And the song 'My land' (also from Sonata Arctica) could well be Aragorn's theme song in his Ranger days. Take a look at the Lyrics (http://www.sonataarctica.info/index.php?lyrics-main&en&ecliptica-lyrics&ecliptica#myland) and decide for yourself.

Fearless by VNV Nation, reminds me of aragorn in some way...
Here's some of the lyrics... I won't put all of them, because they repeat about five times...
So many little things followed me
So many little things that bothered me. But I found my answer.
From all the chaos that followed me I have found my answer.
I've told you before don't follow me because I am not your answer.
I am not alone, I am not afraid, I am not unhappy.
These are the words I say to myself everyday.
I am not alone, I am not afraid, I am not unhappy.
Tell me what ritual I should have today.
But I'm not alone. I've resolved so many things and set myself free.

"No junk foods, just earthly goods, I ate weird berries in the woods, now I'm seeing colours, I'm getting higher, I think I'll start a forest fire!!!"

Eowyn could have karaoke'd her way into Aragorn's heart with this
Beautiful South number (slightly altered):
(Eowyn to Aragorn)
Think of you with pipe and slippers,
Think of her in bed.
Laying there all thinking Elvish
Think of me instead.
I'll never grow so old and flabby
That will never be
DON'T MARRY HER - HAVE ME !
And the summer sun shins brightly upon Rivendell,
And you realise that this idyll is a living hell.
You'll have to be all versed in Elvish etiquette,
DON'T MARRY HER - HAVE ME !
No idea why this popped into my head but in the Two Towers film when Arwen kisses Aragorn back to life after he falls over that cliff maybe she could sing Staying Alive - just for laughs.

LEGOLAS:
Look it's a dwarf, he's uncouth and he's coarse
A terrible boor
He makes this run 'cross the wide plains of Ro-han
Hard to endure
The hobbits must be saved
But you'd think he'd find time to shave
I'll take it to my grave . . .
I'll never tell
GIMLI:
Great, it's an elf who's obsessed with himself
What did you expect
I can detect all his sly disrespect
Because he's stiff-necked
So he can run on snow
His only weapon's that dumb bow
There's just one thing that - no
I'll never tell
GIMLI / LEGOLAS:
'Cause there's nothing to tell
LEGOLAS:
He's short
GIMLI:
He's pretty
LEGOLAS:
He thinks his jokes are witty
GIMLI:
He hums some elven ditty
As we run along
LEGOLAS:
He's gross, and hairy
GIMLI:
He acts like he's a fairy
LEGOLAS:
He's stubborn and contrary
Stupid and headstrong
GIMLI / LEGOLAS:
This chase
Is really wearing
GIMLI:
No one taught him about sharing
LEGOLAS:
He thinks wearing brown is daring
GIMLI:
He can be so overbearing
GIMLI / LEGOLAS:
But it's all very well
'Cause I swear I'll never tell
LEGOLAS:
We've lost the hobbits
We're at the end of our wits
We're here at Fangorn Forest
With no hope in sight
GIMLI:
If we go in there
I'll tell you we should beware
The trees are -
LEGOLAS:
Look how the dwarf's scared!
GIMLI:
I'm not frightened, all right?
(Begin Musical Interlude)
(OLD MAN leaps out of Fangorn.)
OLD MAN:
Look at me! I'm Gandalf Greybeard!
(End Musical Interlude)
GIMLI / LEGOLAS:
You know
GIMLI:
He's quite the charmer
LEGOLAS:
My dwarf in armor
GIMLI:
When he sees the caves of Aglarond
I know he can't help but respond
With firm yet supple - stiff-necked elves
LEGOLAS:
He's brave
GIMLI:
He's braver
LEGOLAS:
I've never seen him waver
GIMLI:
He wants to be the savior
Of all Middle Earth
LEGOLAS:
He plays the stoic
Beneath he's quite heroic
Although he'd never show it
I ignored his worth
GIMLI / LEGOLAS:
I lied
I said it's easy
I tried
But there's feelings I can't quell
GIMLI:
Could he learn to live beneath the ground?
LEGOLAS:
Would my people run me out of town?
GIMLI:
Will he think that I'm disgusting
When my armor gets to rusting?
LEGOLAS:
When I go to the Grey Havens
Will he grieve like he's been shaven?
GIMLI:
Am I crazy?
LEGOLAS:
Am I selfish?
GIMLI:
Am I dating someone elvish?
GIMLI / LEGOLAS:
You might think that I'm a cold fish
But this just won't end well
So that's why I'll never tell
I swear that I'll never tell
GIMLI:
My lips are sealed
LEGOLAS:
Silence is gold
GIMLI:
Nothing to see

Elrond to Aragorn regarding Arwen:
"But as for Arwen the Fair, Lady of Imladris and of Lorien, Evenstar of her people, she is of lineage greater than yours, and she has lived in the world already so long that to her you are but as a yearling shoot beside a young birch of many summers. She is too far above you. But there will be no choice before Arwen, my beloved, unless you, Aragorn, Arathorn's son, come between us and bring one of us, you or me, to a bitter parting beyond the end of the world."
And so at least the chorus of Just the Girl by Click Five would seem to fit Arwen/Aragorn:
Cause she's bittersweet
She knocks me off of my feet
And I can't help myself
I don't want anyone else
She's a mystery
She's too much for me
But I keep coming back for more
She's just the girl I'm looking for

I know I post this a lot but it really does remind me of them.
White Flag by Dido for when Aragorn comes up the Anduin in the corsair boats and anytime him and Arwen (you big, role stealing, horse stealing, Glorfindel hitting, cheating SCUMBAG!!!!!!!!) together!!!!

Just read your post, and it was off to iTunes with me. Found the Dido song, and I see your point Aragorn and Arwen wise. But, when I heard the 30s preview, for some reason, the movie Love Actually popped into my head. After going through my CD's, I found the song I was thinking of. And, by such a coincidence, it was also by Dido. So, in conclusion...
Here with me by Dido, for all those times Arwen thinks about Aragorn. The lyrics just seem to compliment the plot of it so well, you'd think it was meant for it.
Lyrics (for those who dont' have the song)
I didn't hear you leave
I wonder how am I still here
And I don't want to move a thing
It might change my memory
Oh I am what I am
I do what I want
But I can't hide
And I won't go
I won't sleep
I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
And I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me
I don't want to call my friends
For they might wake me from this dream
And I can't leave this bed
Risk forgetting all that's been
Oh I am what I am
I do what I want
But I can't hide
And I won't go
I won't sleep
I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here
I won't go
And I won't sleep
And I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
And I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me
Oh I am what I am
I do what I want
But I can't hide
And I won't go
I won't sleep
And I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here
And I won't go
And I won't sleep
And I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me

That's awsome Perky!!! There's another song that pops into my head for Arwen and Aragorn but I can't remember for the life, I mean death, of me what the song is called or what the Artist's name is.

I hate to seem like a post spammer, but these songs from the Love Actually CD seem to apply to a lot of people
Jump(for my love) by The pointer Systers, for Nienor
This one is kinda weird, but God only knows by The Beach Boys, for Feanor loving his simarils. Although it may seem weird (because of the whole elf <3 Object problem), it does seem to show Feanor's love for the simarils. Especially the whole 'God (Eru) only knows' part....kinda...
Take me as I am by Wyclef Jean, for Eowyn. Not the song so much, but just the title.
Wowzers. Once again, sorry for seeming like a post hog who refuses to eat the pineapple pizza in front of him.
PS. I love Pineapple pizza

Alatar & Pallando, the blue wizards, would no doubt be singing Blue (Da Be De) by Eiffel 65.
I can just imagine them singing "I'm blue da ba dee da ba die..." every step of their journey. :D

Who else sees Tom Bombadil as a hippie?
I think any good 70s rock song would fit him. No wonder he's my favorite character. I can't think of a good one, though. :(

Gandalf after fighting the Balrog: waiting for the world to fall by Jars of Clay
I'm afraid it's been too long to try to find the reasons why
I let my world close in around a smaller patch of fading sky
But now I've grown beyond the walls to where I've never been
And it's still winter in my wonderland
Chorus
I'm waiting for the world to fall
I'm waiting for the scene to change
I'm waiting when the colors come
I'm waiting to let my world come undone
I close my eyes and try to see the world unbroken underneath
The farther off and already it just might make the life I lead
A little more than make-believe when all my skies are painted blue
And the clouds don't ever change the shape of who I am to You
Chorus
I'm waiting for the world to fall
I'm waiting for the scene to change
I'm waiting when the colors come
I'm waiting to let my world come undone
When I catch the light of falling stars my view is changing me
My view is changing me

I think a good song for Shelob would be Poison by Alice Cooper
And going off the Disney fest earlier I think a wjhole new world from the Aladdin movie would be appropriate for Bilbo and Frodo going to the Grey Havens at the end of ROTK

Well I think that would work better for Feanor, or maybe any of the exiled Noldor.

Somebody had mentioned Queen earlier, and there are a slew of their songs that fit different Tolkien characters (at least title-wise):
The WitchKing -- Death on Two Legs ('You're just an old Barrow Boy...)
Arwen -- Who Wants to Live Forever
Frodo -- Seaside Rendezvous
Gimli -- (Just Waiting) For the Hammer to Fall
Legolas -- My Fairy King or The Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke *swoons*
Galadriel -- White Queen
Ingwe -- In the Lap of the Gods
Gandalf -- The Prophet's Song
Sam -- Keep Yourself Alive
Sauron -- One Vision
Lotho Sackville-Baggins -- Tie Your Mother Down
Morgoth -- I Want it All
Elwing -- Spread Your Wings
Gollum -- I'm Going Slightly Mad
Denethor -- Put Out the Fire
Et cetera and so on...

Denethor: Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull
The whole song‽ (40-ish minutes)
I would go for (seemingly obviously):
The Wizard by Black Sabbath for Gandalf in his travelling days. I'm certain that there is a quote somwhere that talks about Gandlaf travelling and spreadng happiness, and this song has that theme.
And for the recent craze in the Captions thread:
Gandalf - I'm too sexy for my shirt etc.
Wouldn't that be cloak?
Or for the Balrog: I'm too sexy for my wings

Denethor: Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull
I think that song should go to Faramir or Aragorn, due to their rejecting of the past mistakes of Gondor.
Denethor should have the darker "A Passion Play" by them.
And on that note:
Songs from the wood= Tom Bombadil (or on second thoughts, Sam as well)
Also,
Gwaihir: Any bird or flying song
Elves who cross the Helcaraxe: Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin

Well, whatever. That was a long time ago, I can't remember why I thought that would be a good song.

This isn't for a character, but the 'Downs as a whole (Not based on actual experiences, but still):
Hotel Barrow-Downs - By The Eag... oh...
I had a burning question, no book had the key
The Silmarillion, it would not answer me
So I went onto Google, saw the question discussed
Realised that I should read some more
Click the link I must
There it opened before me
I saw those who here did dwell
And I was thinking to myself,
"I could just look or I could post as well"
So I wrote up my first post and clicked 'Submit Reply'
There were some people posting
Said "to post you first have to 'die' ".
Welcome to the Barrow Do-owns Forum
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Barrow Do-owns Forum
Any time of year, you can find it here.
I'd read a few books of Tolkien, I knew a bit about about Dale
But some here have heavy, heavy books, that they call the 'Tales'
How do they post on the forum, 2+ per day
Some come here for knowledge, some for Werewolf stay.
So I called up Chris Tolkien,
’Please add a new book to the mix’
He said, ’we haven’t had new material since 1996’
And still those Barrows are calling you up from your beds,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to read on threads...
Welcome to the Barrow Do-owns Forum
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely place
They're posting on threads at the Barrow Do-owns Forum
What a nice surprise, and they're Tolkien-wise.
I talked to a long-timer,
When I'd just posted twice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And the Mod Gorthad,
They gather to kill spambots
They ban them all with their Mod powers,
But they just find lots and lots
Last thing I remember, I was
Trying to sign out
I had to find the passage back
The 'Downs to live without
’Relax,’ said the wight man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can register any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Elrond - Another Brick in the Wall Part 1 by Pink Floyd:
Daddy sailed to search for Aman
Left me just a memory
Mommy morphed into a sea-bird

Mom, Dad, what'd you leave behind for me?
All in all it's just another brick in the wall

You're probably talking about I Just Can't Wait To Be King which might be a bit weird for her. I mean, she doesn't come across as one who wanted to rule others. ;)
