View Full Version : Double scrambled quotes.

I noticed two threads here in Quotable Quotes and I have decided to join them together to make one thread. Thoses two thread were Unscramble the quotes (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=4269) and Sort out the letters!! (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=4289). :D

So this is how it works. The question asker picks a quote from the LotR, such as

One ring to rule them all.

and scrambles the letters in each individual word plus scrambles the words themselves, to make:

temh ot uerl lal nOe igrn

You don't have to keep the capital, I just did that to show you how it works. :p

You also need to say who said it. So here is the first question:

si lal litgrte edos lodg htta otn.

Who said it?

Enjoy! ;)

All that is gold does not glitter

That was Gandalf in the letter to Frodo, but Bilbo was the one who made the words up.

I thought I'd start with an easy one. Good job! :D

You may continue. ;)

Well here goes:

niwd o dawnnigre, ofrm wens het tawh sewt, ot irgnb em ightnto od ouy

I think this one is a little more challenging. Good luck! :D

"What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight?"

Which is Aragorn in his lament for Boromir methinks.

Glirdan
09-01-2005, 01:14 PM
...correct my good lady! :D Your thread.

*mutters to self* and I thought it was challenging.

Kath

Honestly Glirdan your edit means I can't do my Eowyn quote!

Ah well another time perhaps, next:

"si ddielr aehv ewll aegnrsstt eehr ew eht dfnou ahtt ety"

Glirdan
09-01-2005, 04:11 PM
Well then take comfort Kath for you have stumped me with "aegrsstt"! I am stuck! I have found out the other words, but without that one word I can't seem to find anything that makes sense. Good one! :D

Kath
09-01-2005, 04:49 PM
I do apologise, the reason you can't get it is because I missed out a letter. That word should be:

aegnrsstt
Hope that helps!

Glirdan
09-02-2005, 01:42 PM
Darn you Kath! It's still got me stumped! I'd try and guess, but I can't for the life of me (or should I say death of me?) figure out what it is! There are numerous possiblitlites. But I shall not give up!!

"He stood alone upon the bridge and defied both shadow and fire."

About Gandalf but I don't know who said it unless maybe Aragorn.

Glirdan
09-04-2005, 12:46 PM
Right quote, wrong person. It was Frodo singing a song about Gandalf in Lothlorien. But I'll give it to you anyway.

That was Gandalf to Théoden at Edoras when Gandalf "awoke" Théoden from the darkness of the poison of Grima.

Said by Gollum to Frodo.

Kath

"You try to choke poor Smeagol. Dust and ashes, he can't eat that. He must starve."

Poor old Smeagol to Sam and Frodo.

EDIT: Beat me to it Wilwa!

Glirdan
09-04-2005, 01:49 PM
Well, you both are right. But since Wilwa beat you to it Kath, it's her thread. But at least you get the satisfaction of knowing that you were right! :D So take it away Wilwa.

Almost the correct quote, almost correct character :P

wilwarin538
09-05-2005, 06:30 AM
Maybe: "I though you all had forgotten about me"

Pippin to Merry. :p

Mango of Doom
09-05-2005, 08:54 AM
Again, neither are quite right :p

Kath
09-05-2005, 09:02 AM
"I thought you had forgotten all about me."

And I'll say Merry to Gandalf then.

Mango of Doom

Mango of Doom

"Too seldom has he been challenged since he returned to his Tower." Aragorn, in the Last Debate.

That was a good one - seldom, returned, and challenged all had me going for quite a while. Challenged was the key word, though.
