Telchar

Hi.
I dont know if the thread-title is fitting, but the idea is to come up with a confusing statement + a question.
For exsampel:
Statement: My name is Haldir, but Rumil is not my brother!
Question: What was my fathers name?
Answer: Halmir
------------------------------------------------------------
Statement: My name is Barahir, but niether Beren or Dior was my son!
Question: Who was my grand father?

Faramir! :D
Sounds like this could get interesting...
Telchar

Yep Faramir is correct, his grandson Barahir was accounted as the one that wrote the latter part of the tale of Aragorn and Arwen.
You're up Perky :)

Let me see if I can do this...
Statement: My name is Elendil, but Isildur is not my son
Question: Who are my cousins?
Telchar
09-23-2005, 03:13 PM
Excellent question Perky!
Your cousins are: Yávien, Oromendil and Axantur. The latter being the Great Grand father of Hallacar, who married Tar-Ancalime.

Indeed! Back to you, Telchar!

Statement: Aragorn is my son, but I am not Arathorn
Question: WHATS MY NAME????
Estelyn Telcontar

Gilraen! (If it's not the father, it has to be the mother...) :)
[Hi there, Telchar! Nice to encounter you here! Intriguing thread idea!]
HerenIstarion

Or maybe Aravir, father to Aragorn I
Telchar

You are of course both correct, Esty was first!
HI Esty, wassup?
Estelyn Telcontar
09-24-2005, 09:42 AM
How about this one?
Faramir is my grandson, but I am not Ecthelion. Who is my nephew?
(Busy as always, Telch - both on- and offline!)

Could it be Meriadoc?
Estelyn Telcontar

Applause!! Very well done, Perky! Take it away...

:) Thanks Esty!
Statement: Voronwë is my name, but I am not of Gondor
Question: What is my surname?
Estelyn Telcontar
09-24-2005, 10:26 AM
Do you mean Tréowine in the Notion Club Papers (HoME IX)?
There is a Voronwë of Gondolin, but I haven't been able to find a surname for him.
The Perky Ent
09-24-2005, 11:23 AM
Hehe :D No I don't mean Tréowine in the Notion Club Papers (HoME IX)?
And as for Voronwe of Gondolin, look harder :D
Estelyn Telcontar
09-24-2005, 01:10 PM
I have found alternate names for Voronwë: Bronweg and Bronwë. That's all so far - no surname(s). If those aren't what you're looking for, could you please give a clue as to where to search?

Snope, and Snope :D
As for hints, I got it from one of my many resources, so if you want the link I can give it to you, if not, i'll just have to wait

I do hope it's not a game invention or something like that!! It does need to be canonical Tolkien (i.e. book source) to be valid.
The Perky Ent
09-24-2005, 01:19 PM
It is a book resource, but since you are so persistant, consider looking in the chapter concering Tuor and Gondolin

Eureka! I was just doing exactly that, and I found it! It's Aranwion.

My first name is the same as one of Frodo's friends', but I am not a Hobbit.
Whose travelling companion am I?
Telchar
09-26-2005, 04:15 AM
A wild guess would be that you name was Strider and that you were Frodos travelling companion, but also that you were a pony
Estelyn Telcontar
09-26-2005, 07:54 AM
The latter part of your guess is coming pretty close to the solution, Telch, but try a different friend's name...
Rimbaud
09-26-2005, 08:38 AM
Bill?
Estelyn Telcontar
09-26-2005, 08:43 AM
Nope - Frodo didn't have a friend named Bill!
Rimbaud
09-26-2005, 08:49 AM
Ol' apple-chucker Ferny doesn't count as a pal then, eh? Tsk.
Rimbaud
09-26-2005, 08:54 AM
Ah, right. Tom's pony Fatty Lumpkin. (Mr Bolger being his 'alter ego').
Estelyn Telcontar
09-26-2005, 08:58 AM
And the answer to the question is?
Rimbaud
09-26-2005, 09:01 AM
Tom B, I presume. Or am I missing the point?
Estelyn Telcontar
09-26-2005, 09:10 AM
Yes, that's what I was looking for. Sorry, but the complicated (convuluted, even!) manner of the questions here required me to be precise (picky, even). Your turn!
Rimbaud
09-26-2005, 03:08 PM
My name is Nimloth, although I am no tree.
Who was my uncle then?
Elianna
09-26-2005, 05:20 PM
Celeborn.
Rimbaud
09-27-2005, 03:18 AM
Quite right, and you're up!
Elianna
09-30-2005, 09:39 AM
I am called Turambar, but I did not live during the First Age.
From what country am I?
Estelyn Telcontar
09-30-2005, 10:30 AM
You are from Gondor.
Elianna
10-01-2005, 04:54 PM
Yup.
Estelyn Telcontar
10-02-2005, 08:24 AM
My name is Robin, but I was never a Shirriff. Who is my brother-in-law?
Telchar
10-02-2005, 08:53 AM
Both Fastred of Greenholms and Faramir Took ...
Estelyn Telcontar
10-02-2005, 01:04 PM
I would have settled for one of them, but you named both possibilities, Telch! Your turn.
Telchar
10-03-2005, 02:03 AM
My name is Turin and my father is Hurin... But I slew no worm of Morgoth
Who is my son?
Telchar
10-07-2005, 03:23 PM
Correct answer: Barahir, steward of Gondor.
