Is it C, a tree?
Or is the tree called Galathilion like some weird voice in my head keeps telling me? ;)

Legate of Amon Lanc
01-28-2008, 06:05 AM
Your voice is right, C) is not the right answer ;)

But you may try again.

Nerwen
01-28-2008, 08:37 AM
Too late!:D

The answer is A) An Elf.

Legate of Amon Lanc
01-28-2008, 08:50 AM
Right you are. Do you happen to know what elf he was?

Anyway, take the thread.

Nerwen
01-28-2008, 09:03 AM
Yes, he was Celeborn's brother and the father of Nimloth.

Elostirion is the name of

A) A king of Gondor.
B) A tower.
C) An Elf.
D) A city.

Thinlómien
01-28-2008, 09:21 AM
B?

Nerwen
01-28-2008, 07:31 PM
B) it is.
Your turn.:)

Thinlómien
02-01-2008, 03:41 PM
I should never answer these kind of questions as I always have so much trouble coming up with the next question. Anyway, here comes the next one...

Mallos is

A) an Elf-warrior of Gondolin
B) a flower growing in Gondor
C) the name for March in the Elvish calendar
D) the place where Eöl was born

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-01-2008, 04:03 PM
Oh my, I'm going to just try. B) ?

Thinlómien
02-02-2008, 05:22 AM
Oh my, I'm going to just try. B) ?:D It was a good try. Your thread. :)

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-02-2008, 07:50 AM
Oh yes, just now I even all of a sudden remembered the poem. Anyway, what next...

Celepharn is:

A) A Dúnadan king
B) A Telerin Elf
C) A tree growing on Númenor
D) An Elven feast

Nerwen
02-05-2008, 01:26 AM
This is just a guess–

Is it D?

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-05-2008, 04:32 AM
No, it is not D).

Nerwen
02-05-2008, 05:36 AM
I bet you're feeling pleased with yourself now!

Anyway, it's A) A Dúnadan king.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-05-2008, 05:47 AM
Yes, I am :)

But as you seem to have found it, you can take the thread :)

Nerwen
02-05-2008, 07:36 AM
Lindórië was

A) An Elf.
B) A Númenórean.
C) A land.
D) A season.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-05-2008, 07:52 AM
Is it D), a season?

Though I am a little unsure...

Nerwen
02-05-2008, 09:02 AM
Nope.

Now I feel pleased with myself!:D

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-05-2008, 09:04 AM
Then I think it's C) a land.

If it's not, then you can feel even more pleased with yourself :D

Nerwen
02-05-2008, 09:17 AM
I am!:D

Try again.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-05-2008, 09:24 AM
Okay, so I see I am going very wrong way with this one. Let me think.

It does not sound Númenorean. I know I heard it somewhere, but not sure where. And that's the most intriguing on it. If you put there an option E) something else, that's what I would say. But now Númenorean or an Elf? Well I say Elf. But what Elf could this possibly be? It would have to be a nickname, for it sounds strange. Okay, I say Elf. If it's a Númenorean, I'm going to do something...

Nerwen
02-05-2008, 09:31 AM
You'll have to do something, then.:p

Now I'm really pleased with myself.:D

The answer is B) A Númenórean. Lindórië was the mother of Inzilbêth.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-05-2008, 09:35 AM
All right, in fact when I posted the last one I thought that it's probably something from Aldarion and Erendis...

Well, now I just have to think of what I'm going to do :)

Anyway, beaten. You have the right to post a new one. :)

Nerwen
02-05-2008, 09:40 AM
Actually, she's in the Akallabêth. I agree the name doesn't sound Númenórean– which is of course why I picked it.

I have to go now– I'll post the next one tomorrow.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-05-2008, 09:44 AM
Actually, she's in the Akallabêth.

Of course she is. There's something wrong with me today. Yes, you may try to come up with something similar... I'll be here waiting for it ;)

Nerwen
02-06-2008, 04:19 AM

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-06-2008, 07:22 AM
Nooooooooooooooooooo

Okay, erm. (This time I have to do it!) Ennie-minnie-however they do that...

D) !

Nerwen
02-06-2008, 07:38 AM
You're in luck.:)

It's another name for Eldamar (so strictly speaking I guess I should have said "A region of Aman").

Your turn!

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-06-2008, 08:18 AM
Maybe had it not been for the disaster the last time, I would have said it with more certainty. :)

Okay. So it's my turn. (This'll puzzle the nasty little underground creature. :) )

Linnod is:

A) a place
B) a literary term
C) a military term
D) none of the above

Nerwen
02-06-2008, 08:24 AM
Unfortunately, I am not a nasty little underground creature.

It is B) a literary term.

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-06-2008, 08:27 AM
Well, I would rather call it fortunate, but if you insist ;)

Of course, your turn. :)

Nerwen
02-06-2008, 09:30 AM

C it is!:)

Over to you.

Thinlómien
02-08-2008, 06:10 PM
Yes, I'm lurking around this thread at times, but you two are impossible: most of the time you're too quick and when you aren't, you're too difficult. :D ;)

Salmar is/are

A) a group of Falathrim
B) a maia serving Ulmo
C) an Elven smith
D) trees growing in Lórien of Valinor

Nerwen
02-08-2008, 06:21 PM
B) a maia serving Ulmo

Thinlómien
02-09-2008, 09:32 PM
Of course. Your turn. :)

Nerwen
02-09-2008, 10:01 PM

Anyhow, your turn.

Manwathiel
02-11-2008, 12:03 PM
yay! Ok, an easy one

What is the main difference between Olog-hai and Stone trolls?
Just the most obvious difference

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-11-2008, 12:34 PM
Olog-hai do not turn into stone in the sun.

Manwathiel
02-11-2008, 02:19 PM
correct!
Over to you...

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-11-2008, 03:44 PM
Thank you. But to be precise, the rules of the game on this particular thread are somewhat different - you can read them in the first post of this thread, or you can look what the questions posted here look like.

Anyway, here goes another.

Eämbar was:
A) A ship from Númenor
B) A land in Beleriand
C) A type of poem
D) An elven name for the Encircling Sea

Thinlómien
02-11-2008, 03:51 PM
A)?

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-11-2008, 03:56 PM
Indeed. It was the ship of Aldarion's guild.

What are you doing here now?

Anyway, your thread :)

Thinlómien
02-12-2008, 02:48 AM
What are you doing here now? :eek:Obviously, I was answering your question. ;)

Unferth is the name of
A) a Rohir warrior
B) a companion of Ælfwine's
C) a kinsman of Uldor's
D) no one in Tolkien's universe

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-12-2008, 04:23 AM
Obviously, I was answering your question.
*sigh* :) ;)

Anyway, I think the answer is D). I am pretty sure what it is not and about the rest I have no idea and probably no way to discover it, either.

Thinlómien
02-12-2008, 05:21 AM
Anyway, I think the answer is D). I am pretty sure what it is not and about the rest I have no idea and probably no way to discover it, either.Yes, it is D. Handy hint for question-creating: if you can't think of anything you could ask, invent something that does not exist. :D

Anyway, your thread. :)

Nerwen
02-12-2008, 05:32 AM
Legate, for the record: Unferth is a character in Beowulf. That was a very sneaky question.

Thinlómien
02-12-2008, 05:34 AM
Legate, for the record: Unferth is a character in Beowulf. That was a very sneaky question. And, erm, for the record, I knew the name was from somewhere but I couldn't have told you it was from Beowulf... :o ;)

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-12-2008, 06:22 AM
Yes, it is D. Handy hint for question-creating: if you can't think of anything you could ask, invent something that does not exist.
An useful piece of advice. Hope I'm not going to need it soon...

Legate, for the record: Unferth is a character in Beowulf. That was a very sneaky question.
Not that sneaky; unless he was a companion of Ælfwine, it was clear it isn't any of the remaining ones.

And, erm, for the record, I knew the name was from somewhere but I couldn't have told you it was from Beowulf... :o ;)
Why the red face? ;) You are not here to provide information, but to ask questions (or answer them, for that matter).

All right, a new one:

Yavannamírë is:
A) A name of an artifact
B) A name of a tree
C) A name of a month
D) A nonsense I made up

Thinlómien
02-12-2008, 06:31 AM
D) A nonsense I made upNo, no, it doesn't work that way. :p

I'm a bit torn between two options.

But it is B) a tree, isn't it?

Legate of Amon Lanc
02-12-2008, 06:38 AM
No, no, it doesn't work that way. :p
:D

I'm a bit torn between two options.

But it is B) a tree, isn't it?

Yes, it is :) Which was the other one, by the way?

Thinlómien
02-29-2008, 04:42 AM
Aieeeeeeeeee, I totally forgot about this thread. Anyway, let's continue. :)

Anardil was
a) a king of Gondor
b) a steward of Gondor
c) Elendil's kinsman
d) the name of Anárion in Tolkien's early scripts

PS. Which was the other one, by the way?The month one. I think I should learn all the Elvish month and day names just for Quiz Room... ;)

Nerwen
02-29-2008, 05:05 AM
a) a king of Gondor

Thinlómien
02-29-2008, 07:39 AM
Yes, exactly. :)

Nerwen
03-04-2008, 08:10 AM
Mereth Aderthad was

A) A mountain.
B) An Elven celebration.
C) An Elven greeting.
D) A plain.

Thinlómien
03-04-2008, 08:25 AM
B.

Even though it does sound like a greeting. :D

Nerwen
03-04-2008, 08:57 AM
Can't fool you, can I? (Well, not this time, anyway. *cough* firefly-balrogs *cough*)

Over to you.:)

Thinlómien
03-05-2008, 12:06 PM
Can't fool you, can I? (Well, not this time, anyway. *cough* firefly-balrogs *cough*)I see I should never have admitted partly falling for it and you should never have won the ww game, just look at what's it doing to you... :p ;) Seriously though, it was not difficult to know that, especially after having played a character whose mother's name was Merethiel and having planned a fan-ficish thing that was very closely related to the feast...

Anyway, back to the topic...

Ladros was:
A) a region in Dorthonion
B) Brandir's kinsman
C) Saeros's father
D) a river in south-western Beleriand

Legate of Amon Lanc
03-05-2008, 02:06 PM
A), of course, as everyone knows.

Thinlómien
03-06-2008, 01:38 AM
A), of course, as everyone knows. As everyone except me knows, obviously. I would not have remembered it but I accidentally found it when leafing through the Sil. ;) Anyway, your turn. :D

Legate of Amon Lanc
03-06-2008, 02:12 AM
As everyone except me knows, obviously. I would not have remembered it but I accidentally found it when leafing through the Sil. ;) Anyway, your turn. :D

Well, I remember it from the map. Otherwise I am not aware that it is mentioned in the books (though it probably is, but nothing significant).

All right... something new...

Udalraph was:

A) an Elf of Gondolin
B) a ship from Númenor
C) a Northerner from Rhovanion
D) none of the above

Thinlómien
03-06-2008, 03:19 AM
D?

Legate of Amon Lanc
03-06-2008, 03:15 PM
Well yes, D. Do you know, perchance, what was it? (Not necessary to answer in order to take the thread, just curious :) - also to determine whether it was pure guess or based on some more concrete basis ;) )

The Might
03-28-2008, 10:42 AM
You really are good at finding hidden terms.

His name was long remembered in the song of Rochon Methestel (Rider of the Last Hope) as Borondir Udalraph (Borondir the Stirrupless), for he rode back with the éoherë at the right hand of Eorl, and was the first to cross the Limlight and cleave a path to the aid of Cirion.

Good thing I know the UT in and out. :D

Anyway, since it's been 22 days, me is asking serious question:

The Stock-brook was:
A. A tributary of the Thistle
B. A tributary of the Shirebourne
C. A tributary of the Brandywine
D. A tributary of the Withywindle

Annunfuiniel
04-05-2008, 08:09 AM
Let's see... it should be C. :)

Nerwen
06-21-2008, 09:04 AM
I don't know where The Might's got to, but the answer is, in fact, C. I checked.

Thread's yours, Annunfuiniel
