While playing an intense game of Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit, I discovered my neighbor has the affection nickname for Gimli as "Gim-Gim."

Just wondering if anyone knew somebody with, or had heard of, strange nicknames for the other characters of Middle-Earth...

Well, ever since I first watched RotK in theatres and misheard Gimli's line, You might as well accept it. We're going with you, laddie.

Aragorn has become Arrie. (Though, sometimes he is Laddie as well, just because he simply does not have enough names... ;))

My cousins and I have the inclination to call Gandalf "G-Dawg". Don't ask me why, they started it.

A few nights ago my sister called Denethor "Spanky".

Yeah, I didn't understand that either... but Denethor seems to get all of the good names in my house. Sparky, Spanky, Cuddle Bear (inspired by that gigantor fur jacket, as you probably imagined)... it deteriorates from there.

Frodo is, of course, "Fro-fro" or "Afro"

Legolas remains as he was dubbed in the National Lampoon's spoof: Legolamb, but I have been known to call him "The Bow-twanger" without remorse. Then in the movie: Captain Obvious.

Thuringwethil (begs for a nick name) has been christened "Furry-Thurry".

Gimli: Gimster the Pim'ster.

Eomer: "LION!!"

I always want to call Elrond "Socrates" and Aragorn "Achilles" and before anyone mentions it, yes I was raised on Homer.

....yes I was raised on Homer.

You eat lots of doughnuts and work on a nuclear plant?

I remember when I saw the FoTR for the first time (just to be clear, I mean the movie) I thought Legolas was pretty much like a vallet dancer that was very popular at the time... but now I forgot his name so it sort of defeats the purpose of a nickname

Most of my family members aren't really "into" LOTR, so often our nicknames for characters are less than flattering... Sadly, unless I use the nicknames, they have no idea who I'm talking about.

In our household, Boromir is The Human Pincushion, also Mr. Pessimism a.k.a. "Twenty Reasons Why This Quest Won't Work."

Galadriel is just "That Creepy Elf Chick"

Eowyn is "If He's Not From My Village, Then I Love Him." We have some long nicknames at our place.

Gandalf is Gandy, Gimli is Gim-Gim or Gims, Aragorn is Arry or Gorn, Faramir is Far, Boromir is also Bor. (You know; the average nicknames)

Denethor is The Human Torch.

Sam is "The Smart One," Frodo is "Tell Me What I Shouldn't Do, and I'll Go Do It" or just "The Moron."

I think most of my favorite nicknames for characters are from the Secret Diaries.
Eowyn: Not Hefty and Pear-Shaped!
Eomer: The Aardvark
Legolas: The Prettiest
Aragorn: Still Not King/Pervy Hobbit-Fancier
Merry: Indistinguishable Backup Hobbit
Sam: Will Kill Him If He Tries Anything

Then there's the really random ones. Some BD, some from people I know.
Wormtongue: Slima Grima/Pettigrew
Saruman: Dooku
Gimli: The Comic Relief Dwarf
Frodo: Spongebob/Dodo
Boromir: Borrums/Baramir
Faramir: Foromir
Legolas: Mr. Obvious
