View Full Version : Admin thread for WWJ VI "Return to Midsomer Mawlin: Kill me again"

This will be a back to basics game similar to the original Werewolf game moderated by the Barrow Wight himself oh so long ago.
Ideally there will be 13 players. 11 or 15 are possible depending on demand.
There will be 3 wolves and 1 Seer and NO OTHER GIFTEDS.
The Seer will be permitted to dream on the first night.
There will be retractable votes. However if at any point during a DAY there is a true majority, votes will stand.
I will take in to account however the wishes of the players when deciding on double lynchings.
Days and nights will end probably at 6pm GMT
I hope to make a start soon. Possibly on Sunday evening but that will depend on how many takers we get.
I will post full rules in due course but due to recent shenanigans Please read and note the following:
I have neither the time or the energy to draw up legislation that would govern the machinations of minds more devious than my own.
The wolves may PM by night. Any player may PM me. Othewise all other discussion should be on the open thread and be open.
Any form of code or private communication I regard as unacceptable particularly in a "junior" game. I will stop the game if I feel it has been compromised.
Being a mod is a lot of work and I am starting a new assignment next week (sorting out NHS budgets - if I get through that I guess it will be on to ending world poverty and making world peace  ) . Anyway, while I have been waiting a long time to mod again and have lots of ideas for the game, I do not want extra stress. So be nice children!!!!
Before you sign up please think if you will be available for the expected duration of the game. With such a small number of players it should be a short game but it is therefore vital that all players are involved.
Obviously some things are unexpected but if you know you have exams, are going away or will be otherwise unavailable in the next fortnight PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP.
You do not need an "occupation" . I am going to amuse myself with fictional detectives/investigators again. If you have a preference PM me do not post on the thread....
I think that :
Boromir88
JennyHallu
Sleepy Ranger
are playing.... I had thought Eomer was but he may have overcommitted :(
If they have changed their mind can they let me know.
Otherwise please sign up below indicating a preference re double lynchings.

I suppose I can follow the rules:
Lemme in, lemme in! I'm going through manipulation withdrawal.
And I'm cool with double lynching.

I'm going to go against double-lynching. With a low amount of players the game is bound to go fast already, d-l will speed it up more, and we certainly don't want that now do we? :D

I would like to play.
I just recently read over The Barrow-Wight-modded original game and thought it looked like a lot of fun, but have been hesitant to sign up for the other games which have become more complicated.
I'm assuming a double lynching is when the villager vote is tied between two players and both are excuted? I have no problem with that.
Anything that might be different from the original game, let me know, that's all I've read.

Rats.
A perfectly simple, back to the basics, completely dictatorial game...
And I'm commited to Nilp's.
Even if it wasn't discourteous or unchivalrous to partake in two games simultaneously, I fear that my brain should overload were I to try.
Such a pity...
Ah well, I'll be watching. Meanwhile, I back off to the zany land of Ened-in-Nowhere.

I have thought of taking a break with WW, as I will be having considerably more RL work in the couple of weeks to come. Then again this idea of a vintage game quite inspires.
Maybe we do as follows: if you have lots of people joining, I'll stay out. If you have trouble to get enough people to play (there's quite a large game starting at TiG), I'll join in.
That's allright, Mith?
PS. If I join, I'll be posting somewhat less than in the earlier games. With my flood-posting, it might be more good than bad... ;)
PS2. Double lynching basically ok., but it's a small game, so I'm not sure. Anything goes.

Count me in. I don't want to miss Mith's game. I'm good with double lynchings but I ask you Mith about the retractable votes. I'm okay with them but I remember in your first modding you became exasperated with the amount of retracting ;)

It wasn't the retracting it was certain people *cough* confusing me ......
As for double lynchings...... I am still cogitating.... it is a very small game and I don't want to lynch say on day one 2 people who maybe have only 2-3 votes each. Conversely it would be difficult to refuse a double lynching if two people got 6 votes each ... I may set a high threshold for a double lynch and have a tiebreaker for lower ties.....
Retractable votes will happen...they make things more interesting and with no hunter/guardian may redress the balance for villagers.

That sounds more than reasonable! Mod-goddess deciding on a double lynch situation: so the villagers wouldn't know, whether there would actually be a double lynch or not! Sounds interesting and adds a twist or two...

Thinking about getting recruits for this game. Should you, Mith, put "an add" to the TiGJ thread to announce this game once more? You started this thread so early, that some people might not find this one, and just be waiting for the next game be announced at the WWJ -thread (people seem to be lazy to go one or two pages back to find the information they are searching for...).
Which brings me to my other question. What is the title of that renonwned first game? I'd like to see, what was it like, but have no idea, how to search for it (and no time to start searching actively :))

It's Tol-in-Gauroth (Isle of Werewolves) (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=11911) and it's still on the main page because it's now grown to over 50 pages. But the first game is played out on the first few pages of the thread.

Thanks Diamond18!
And basically I just wrote something here to make this thread appear at the top of the "active threads"-list. We need a couple of players more. I already took the liberty of mentioning this game at the "New members introduce yourselves"- thread. Let's hope we will have the players and get going...

Firefoot - I am delighted to have you back!!! This is going to be such an interesting game to moderate. I am delighted to have so many interesting and experienced players but I would flag up that Diamond is a new player and since this is a Junior game, that should be remembered. I am not saying don't vote for her - just remember that she is a learner....

It wasn't personal!!! Just that this looks like being a top level game and Diamond may end up being the only true beginner. I am not saying don't lynch her, just remeber that she hasn't the benefit of experience so lynch her for the right reasons!!!
Anyway I am off now. If we get recruits overnight I should send out roles tomorrow and hope to get going proper the next day.

All I ask is a fair chance and a gory demise. Melodramatic, even.
At any rate, today is the last halcyon day of my weekend vacation from work, and next week will find me working every day right through Saturday. However I will find time to come here every day, though I may not have as many consecutive hours in which to obsess. This will benefit my sanity and little else.

Great players thus far. Unfortunately, I have already made werewolf commitments that i am already worried about properly contributing to.
I was hoping to have Morm take my WW Sr position but I guess he's involved in this one now.
I've wanted to be in a game with Feanor, well just because. Nice Avatar.
Good luck all.

Well! I've been redirected from the other WW thread, as there's no room in the current game, and I must say, this game looks very, very fun. I'd love to join in: I haven't played a back-to-the-basics game since the games were basic, haha. So if there's still room *hopes* sign me up, please!
As for double lynchings, my vote is a resounding no. I want my own hopelessly ironic death, thanks, hahaha. And this village is shaping up to be pretty small, so we don't want anything to speed up our demise. heh.
Just an advance warning to all that my voting behavior will probably be a little strange: expect some oddly-timed votes since 6:00 pm GMT is about 1:00 pm EST (at least according to the time converter website), which means I'll still be in school, and unable to reach a computer, so early votes are going to be the way to go for me, pretty much across the board. It probably means that I won't be showing up until rather later on in the day, too. If you think this will hurt the game, Mith, feel free to tell me to sit this one out. If I want a game perfectly tailored to my time schedule, I should mod it myself  :p
just remeber that she hasn't the benefit of experience so lynch her for the right reasons!!!
Which means they can lynch me for the WRONG reasons? Thanks a million. *points to sig*
That said, I'm excited and can't wait to get started. I haven't played a game since well before my vacation.

I'm in the CST, so most days the deadline will fall just before I have to leave for work, giving me time to at least pop in, if not wax poetical. I am not an early riser. :) This upcoming Friday and Saturday will, unfortunately, be hopeless, but maybe I'll be dead by then anyway. Not that I advocate killing me. I just won't be present to witness the actual deadline. :p

I just see you being way too silent and I learned that it is best to be yourself.
If you want to shout - shout already,
If the idiot villagers decide to lynch an innocent, the hell with them...
It beats remarks such as "the werewolves are trying to kill innocents." (paraphrase)

There is at least one other player not from the North America... And for me, the later, the better - as I have sometimes long days at work, and my chances to go online during the day are quite random (during school day -recessess, at best 10 minutes / time). So 7.30PM GMT is good (9 would be even better... but clearly not possible)!
When do we start? I counted 11 players by now.

ETA: Mith, Firefoot's right. There's no reason for you to go out of your way to accommodate the inconveniences of our time zones. I, like Firefoot, am just trying to put my restrictions out there so everyone knows the whys behind my behavior, and to perhaps save my own self from getting lynched on the first or second day due to my voting times.

You'll play nicely, Mr 88 or you will find yourself playing dead....!
And I would turn you in for being a biased Mod that has is out for me.

Yay! Welcome Lady Oddwen!
I promise not to lynch you.
By myself.
Unless I think you're a clever wolf who'll kill us all.
Or maybe if I'm a wolf and I think you're dangerously clever.
But either of those could be interpreted as compliments, so...just take it as a compliment if I lynch you (or participate in the lynching thereof), ok?

I'm just seeing some nightmares already - kind of like my first game, with Mith, us two only awake, not yet voted, and two villagers having an even match of votes...
And you others. As an European, I will be online mostly at the start of the day, and at the end of it. I'ts sad, if we are not online simultaneously...
But this surely looks like an interesting game!

Before I get down to the thing you all want me to do (issue roles) , I just want to say thank you. I am really touched by the enthusiasm shown for this game and I think that we have a great mix of old lags ..I mean hands, returners and new blood.....
I just hope that I can write intros and deaths worthy of such talents.
I know I will go in to Moddess mode soon...but before the power goes to my head, I, in all sincerity, want to say that this will be an honour.

You seem to be somewhat in the Mod-mode already? This allusion to the new "blood" was kind of chilling one to begin a game with, as a third time gamer, in this company... ;)

Just two questions.
1) Will we have those roles (meaning these "detectives" etc.) "really soon" or just tomorrow before the morning comes around, and the game starts? (these surely would be nice to know beforehand!)
2) Will the game be played on this thread, or in a new one?
Well, kind of a beginners questions, but as a kind of a one, just wanted to make sure, what's coming up next and with which schedules...

Nogrod you tell her your detective role. It's more of a characterisation. For example, you could tell her you want the characterisation of Sherlock Holmes and it would give her some ideas of writing it up early posts using that characterisation for you. It's only meant to add to the fun of gameplay and to help Mith in fun ideas. So essentially pick out some detective from literature and PM Mith with your pick. It has to be a mystery solver not an official 'detective' per se.

I sent in to be Elliot Ness the great G-man of the 1920's, but I don't think she's familiar with him. I wait to see how this detectiveness is tied into the game.

I kind of got that already, and have PM'd her to be the inspector Clouseau-thing eg. the pink panther, as you know. I was just asking, whether these would be revealed in time before the game, or should they just be given out at the beginning of the game?
Kind of thought, it would be fun to know it a bit beforehand, with "whom" you are playing...
But thanks about trying to help. I always appreciate that kind of people. (And this said now without any sarcasm - I might be tended to use that in the game...)

I'm not sure but I don't believe that she wants us revealing who our characterisation is. She likes to write it in so we can all guess...though sadly I'm rather pathetic at that game.

This seems both bad news and good news...
Bad if I have revealed myself to be what I am (not the only one, though), but good, as there is something to be waiting for - and a pathetic player alongside me! I have always thought, I was the only one... :)

This is truly my last post on this thread. I thought I was reaching out to Gil with fatherly advice yet in retrospect I but always come across as abrasive.
Well, abrasive name, abrasive avatar, and I am a smarty-pants.
Really, good luck everyone I'll be following the best I can, WW Sr. is a couple hours shy of DAY One. This is the first time that I recollect that both games are starting nearly simultaneous.
Of Course we have more players but are starting a day or two earlier.
Hope some of us play together soon ..... and keep an eye on Mormegil.

Greetings.
While, on the whole, I am greatly enjoying the game so far I would make 2 comments:
1, Has anyone actually read the first post on this thread or are you deliberately trying to wind me up with the various references to anagrams?
2, Some players who did not notify me of a preference may not know who they are. Some players who broadcast their choice are not who they think they are.
Anyone who doesn't know their character may want to PM me. The rest of you can wait til the end - no blabbing!!!
Oh and can someone tell me waht a "heads-up" is......

I thought I ought to let everyone know that tomorrow I will most definitely not be around before the deadline, as I'm working all day starting in the morning. (I'm CST, therefore the deadline happens at 1:30 PM my time.) But this isn't going to matter as much as I thought it would at the beginning of today, because I hadn't expected to be so sure of who to vote for before going to bed tonight. I may still check up on things before leaving for work tomorrow morning, but am highly doubtful I'll find reason to change my vote, so maybe I'll nab a few extra winks instead. :D At any rate, don't expect to see me till the start of the next Day, as when I get home from work it will be in the middle of the "Night".
Of course, I'll be thinking of nothing else the whole time I'm at work, so it's going to be an excruciating day. And I already so despise working on Saturdays... oh well!

I was killed? I hate you wolves, I hate you with a passion. :)
Why could you not let me live so that the villagers could make random theories about me being a wolf and voting for Fea because I'd figure it would keep one of us safe? But no, you just had to go ahead and execute me. >_>
Don't mind me, I just really wanted to play and now I'm dead but oh well, I killed a wolf and said some really awesome stuff... so... YAY! ^_^

I want to make it clear - though I am frankly insulted that this question has been raised - that neither the content or timing of my posts should be taken as significant.
The reason my post yesterday was that time was because AS I POSTED it was the only time I could post. I have car problems and that means that moderating this thread is giving me problems since I do not have internet access at home. At the moment I should be buying a new battery for the "good" car rather than hoping my old banger will get me home.
I states in my firswt post on this thread how I felt about private communication.
The anagrams were a reference to Kuruharan's alter ego's crossword addiction. The clumsy anagram of second wolf was my own. THe other two were from saturday's telegraph.
Any more of this nonsense and I will halt the game.
Do I make myself clear?

You most assuredly do.
And sorry I asked about the possible meaning about your crosswords etc. at the thread. I just thought to ask the others, whether there could be something in them or not (which latter I was inclined to believe by the anagram), as I didn't have a clue about those kinds of things being meaningful or -less in an average WWJ-game, not to talk of this one specifically...
