No worries I am here! (and no Estel I wasn't with Corey Clark :p )

So here are my comments, which are, like always, short and sweet:

Anguirel: That was really good, very touching, brought tears to my eyes.

Celuien: Very pretty ballad, you did a great job with that one! And you also look very cute tonight, where did you buy that adorable top? :)

Elempi: That was an interesting song, very powerful. Good job.

Estel: Very good, I always liked that ballad. Slinkle is now my favorite word. ;)

Gurthang: Very nice, I really enjoyed it, you showed a lot of passion, good work.

Hookbill: Well....uhmm.....that was definetely.....a.....interesting.....good job.

Mith: Also a very pretty song, I enjoyed that very much.

Saucie: Touching and powerful, amazing!

Good luck everyone!

'An' interesting good job? Hmmm.

Clearly there are too few Genesis fans around here!

Perhaps I should do King Crimson next. :p

Where did you buy that adorable top?
At the Gap of Rohan, of course (to borrow from REB). ;) :D

Hookbill the Goomba

Well... that was certainly a brave and idiotic performance, more to the brave though. Anyway with that song I believe you've just booked your ticket out of this competition.

Anguirel

Not as good as your past performances but still I think you did alright. You could've done better, that performance certainly did not compliment you in any way at all. I expect better from you.

The Only Real Estel

I think this has been your best performance so far. Stunning voice, I know I may have been very critical of you in the past but with that performance you've convinced me young man. You could very well be our very first Middle-Earth Idol.

Celuien

Now I don't mean to be rude but that was terrible. I think our friend Hookbill has just found some competition for elimination. Good luck to you.

Elempi

I think that was a somewhat rushed performance. I've heard you do better than that and in fact I'd expect you to do better than that. Now I don't mean to be rude but Wilwa and Glirdy could probably put on a better ballad than that and that is saying something. By the way, you should check out my new book '100 Ways To Diss Your Co-judges'.

Gurthang

Its no secret, you're one of my favorites in this competition so you know when I say I don't mean to be rude I really do mean it. That wasn't really such a good performance, I heard a rumor that you had some trouble figuring out what a ballad is. In the end you did come up with something and I guess you did well enough to see yourself through but I've come to expect better from you.

Mithalwen

To be honest with you that wasn't the best performance of the night but it wasn't the worst either. You did okay, it got a bit boring in the middle but you ended it strong enough.

Saucepanman

I didn't believe I would ever have to say this after a performance from you but... that was the best performance of the night. Well done Saucepanman, its performances that show us the voice behind all those antics. I had just about ruled you out but you've come back very strongly. Congratulations.

I've been trying to do that the whole time. Why won't anyone listen?

Jackson's Comments

Hookbill the Goomba

That was an....interesting performance. I found it a little entertaining, but nothing that had that x factor and there were quite a few notes here and there that were just a tad sharp and a tad flat. I think I'm gonna have to agree with Cowell here and say thanks for coming, but you're gone. Sorry dog.

Anguirel

I don't know what Cowell over there was talking about, dog. You were hot tonight!! Great song choice for you and it was just...wow!! Amazing!! Barrow-Downs, we've got a hot one tonight!!

The Only Real Estel

Wow man!! That was undescrbeable!! You have an amazing voice and great stage presence. I think I'll have to agree with Cowell on this, you could be our first Middle-Earth Idol!! I think you're the one to beat tonight dog!!

Celuien

That wasn't a bad performance girl, but I think you could have done a lot better. There were a few spots where you were pitchy and you just didn't have that "Wow" TORE had. But if I may agree with Wilwa, you do look great.

Elempi

Okay, if I may bite back at Cowell before judging you: At least we HAVE talent!! :p Now, back to the judging. That wasn't you're best performance dog, but it wasn't bad either. Oh, by the way Cowell, that book of your's isn't that great. You're "jokes" and ways of dissing us co-judges, suck!!

Gurthang

Dude, that was a pretty good performance. One of the best tonight in my opinion, especially since you didn't know exactly what a ballad was. I think you pulled it off this week.

Mithalwen

Once again, not one of the best tonight, but you definetly pulled it off girl. I definetly think we should keep you around another week...especially since you and Celuien are the only girls left...

Saucepanman

Saucy, that was amazing. I think you definetly rivaled TORE for the top of the night. An awsome way to end the show for the night. The song choice was perfect, you're voice was perfect and you had that "WOW" for me. Way to go!

So what's the hold up? When do we start the next round, and what's the theme?

Glirdan
07-21-2006, 08:43 PM
Well, when it's starting no idea. However, last I heard from Valesse, the theme (but don't take me seriously on this, I haven't talked to any of the other judges in ages [where have they gotten to?]) was going to be Jazz. But like I said I haven't talked to any of them in awhile so don't take my word on it. As for the votes, I have no idea of that eiter. Right now, I'm just as left in the dark as you all are.

Edit: I have just PM'ed my fellow judges about this predicament. I hope to get an answer ASAP.

Sleepy Ranger
07-21-2006, 11:41 PM
Since Valesse has gone AWOL. Here is the elimination-

Elempi, Mithalwen and Hookbill you are our bottom three tonight.

Elempi you sang Burn The Mage. Glirdy said it wasn't a bad performance but it wasn't your best either, Wilwa thought it was very powerful whereas Sleepy thought it was rushed and that Glirdy and Wilwa could top that.

Mithalwen you sang Aldarion and Erendis. Glirdy said it wasn't the best but you pulled it off, Wilwa thought it was a very pretty song and Sleepy, being honest, thought it got a bit boring in the middle.

Hookbill you sang Harold The Baggins, a Hobbit Restraunt Owner. Glirdy said it was interesting but lacked the x-factor, Wilwa sounded a bit unsure but said it was interesting and Cowell said it was brave and idiotic but more to the brave and then said you just booked your ticket home.

Are the three of you nervous? Well, ladies and gentlemen, leaving us tonight will be... after the break.

<Insert Crazy Ad About Chicken Killing Orcs>

Alright, here we are again one of these three has to leave us tonight. All the judges have said that Elempi has a very good chance to win on more than one ocassion but now you're in the bottom three... Elempi you still could win, have a seat.

That leaves us with Hookbill and Mithalwen. Mithalwen you are safe too, that means Hookbill you shall be leaving us today.

The next theme shall be Country. Thats right, its now Country Week. You have till the 30th of July to get your song in. Good luck.

Well it was a bit harsh getting slated for being boring - for goodness sake it was a ballad  ah well maybe time to have another go at the idea that has been floating round my head since the beginning of the competition but hasn't yet progressed beyond "sometimes it's hard to be an elf queen..." :p

Couldn't agree with you two more. In fact, I already used the one country song that I consider decent aways back to "branch out" from my rocking style a bit.

I remember telling Sleepy I'd be incredibly upset if another time came up where I could've used it...I think he's just spiting me. :p

Well, being no fan of Country Music myself, I shall do as Jake and Elroy did when confronted with a similar proposition.

*The Saucepan Man starts up a vigorous, cantering beat on his pans*

Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'

Runnin', runnin', runnin'
O’er the plains of Rohan
Keep them Hobbits runnin'
Smallfry!
Pay no heed to Grishnákh
Hell-bent for Orthanc
We are the fightin' Uruk-Hai.
All the things I'm callin',
Manflesh, grog, and brawlin',
Are waiting at the end of my flight.

Push 'em on, tie 'em up
Tie 'em up, push 'em on
Push 'em on, tie 'em up
Smallfry
Move 'em out, bring 'em in,
Bring 'em in, move 'em out,
Move 'em out, bring 'em in
Smallfry!

Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'

Keep movin', movin', movin'
Though the pace is gruelin'
Keep them Hobbits movin'
Smallfry!
Don't try to feast upon 'em
Just grab, bind, and haul 'em
Soon we'll be back in Isengard.
I’m Uglúk, I’m commandin'
And Sharkû is demandin',
Demandin' the Hobbits unmarred.

Push 'em on, tie 'em up
Tie 'em up, push 'em on
Push 'em on, tie 'em up
Smallfry
Move 'em out, bring 'em in,
Bring 'em in, move 'em out,
Move 'em out, bring 'em in
Smallfry!

Yah!
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Yah!
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Runnin', runnin', runnin'
Yah!
Smallfry
Yah!
Smallfry!

Well, I suppose since I must - here's my song for this round.

It's called I Like It, I Love It, sung by Thorin Oakenshield about the treasure under the Mountain. (I Like It, I Love It - Tim McGraw)

I've been on my feet now fer what seems like forever,
I'm battered and bruised but I want back my treasure.
It's got me feelin' greedy I can just taste the pleasure,

I ain't ate a square meal fer what seems like a year.
We're gonna catch fire if we're not real aware,
But gems like the Arkenstone are more than just rare!

And I like it, I love it, I want some more of it,
I've worked so hard, I won't give any to Bard.
Don't know what it is 'bout these gems that ain't been marred,
But I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.

My Mother and Father tried to teach me to share,
But right now I find it real hard to care.
Now I'm holdin' rare diamonds and gatherin' up gold,

I'll weather the battle and get throught the cold.
Crossin' my fingers, and countin' every man,
Refusin' to give in to any demand.

'Cause I like it, I love it, I want some more of it,
I've worked so hard, I won't give any to Bard.
Don't know what it is 'bout these gems that ain't been marred,
But I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.

Got to draw my sword and get up
Get up and rally all the dwarves to my side.
Soon enough Dain will answer my summon,
Then we'll send the enemy off and runnin'...
They won't get no gold from my hide.

'Cause I like it, I love it, I want some more of it,
I've worked so hard, I won't give any to Bard.
Don't know what it is 'bout these gems that ain't been marred,
But I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.

Howdy, agin' folks. This lil tune is called "White Miurvor, White Lightning" (White Lightning, George Jones) an' it's sung by Arwen 'bout her daddy.

Well in ol' Rivendell, way back in the hills
Me and my old pappy had a hand in a still
We brewed white miruvor' 'til the sun went down
Then he'd fill him a jug and he'd pass it around
Mighty, mighty pleasin, pappy Elrond's brewin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Chorus:
Well the Bree men, Lake men, Moriaers, too
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew
They were looking, tryin to book him,
But my pappy kept a-cookin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

--- Instrumental ---

Well I asked my old pappy why he called his brew
White lightnin' 'stead of miurvor dew
I took a little sip and right away I knew
As my eyes bugged out and my face turned blue
Lightnin' started flashin' and thunder started crashin'
Shhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Chorus:
Well the Bree men, Lake men, Moriaers, too
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew
They were searchin', and they were thirsty too,
So my pappy kept a-cookin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Well a Mirkwood slicker came and he said "I'm tough"
"I think I wanna taste that powerful stuff"
He took one g-g-glug and drank it right down
And I heard him a moaning as he hit the ground
Mighty, mighty pleasin', pappy Elrond's brewin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Chorus:
Well the Bree men, Lake men, Moriaers, too
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew
They were searchin', and they were thirsty too,
So my pappy kept a-cookin'
Whshhhoooh . . . white lightnin'

Well, I'm going to be singing country tonight. *gasps from audience* I know that seems out of character for me, Gurthang, to do, but I hope you can forgive me. ;) I'll be singing as Sam, who is thinking of his friendship with Frodo and lamenting over his departure from ME, which took place long before the song was written. The song will be called What Hurt the Most. I hope you like it. (What Hurts the Most (http://us.video.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=1&pmmsid=1677493&referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowsmedia.com)* by Rascal Flatts)

I can take the rain on the roof of this hobbit hole
That don’t bother me
It only makes a few tears now when it comes back to my mind
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though remembering with you gone seems so empty
There are days every now and again I pretend to forget
But I can never really

What hurt the most
Was being so close
And watching you sail away
Because you couldn't stay
And still wondering
If I'll see you again
Because you are there to stay
And I might not go that way.

It’s hard to go through life without you, knowing what you did for them
But they don't know
It’s hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I know
Still harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin’ without their thanks
But I know if we could do it over
You'd still trade give away what you did to save all of Middle-Earth
and without them knowing

What hurt the most
Was being so close
And watching you sail away
Because you couldn't stay
And still wondering
If I'll see you again
Because you are there to stay
And I might not go that way.

What hurt the most
Was being so close
And watching you sail away
Because you couldn't stay
And still wondering
If I'll see you again
Because you are there to stay
And I might not go that way.

Because you are there to stay
I hope I can go that way.

As for a history on country erm... wait... I'm not female, I don't need to tell you! :p

Anyway, I'm certain you could find a Rascall Flatts song that'll fit or Tim McGraw maybe. Just google 'country music' and go with what you can. Nobody really likes country anyway so yeah... :p

This (http://www.roughstock.com/history/begin.html) may be a little too detailed, but it looks like it gives a pretty good history of country music.

Ahem. I present For A Change, by some yokel called Neal McCoy. Sung in the voice of Khamul the Easterling...

It seems like all my life
I've never been satisfied
Ain't nothin' I ain't tried
Takin' every sorcerous art
Tryin' to find my ring on the range

Been close a time or two
To seein' that dream come true
But I never could follow through
Couldn't drop the other shoe
'Cause pretty soon I knew
I'd be searchin' for a change

For a change
I can't see a little sunlight
Shinin' through the pourin' rain
I swear it's gettin' so much brighter
It burns up my horse's mane
You know I can't get used to this
So right now it still feels strange
To be a happy wraith
I'm talkin' 'bout a happy wraith
I'm a happy wraith
For a change

Ring I must confess
I live for your caress
Every single time we kiss
I know that I've been blessed
I wanna keep you I confess
And in Dol Guldur I wanna remain

Goodbye o' wander lust
I been there long enough
Those times they sure are tough
Things sure are lookin' up
Ever since I got my ring
I ain't lookin' for a change

For a change
I can't see a little sunlight
Shinin' through the pourin' rain
I swear it's gettin' so much brighter
As I ride down Hobbit lanes
You know I could get used to this
A little ring on the range
I'm a happy wraith
Master you made me a happy wraith
I'm a happy wraith
For a change
For a change

Well much as I would prefer to be impersonating Galadriel, I still couldn't get "Sometimes it's hard to be an elf-queen to work" so this is Frodo singing about his first meeting with Aragorn. Kenny Roger's " The Gambler" is a cover version of this original lyric :

The Ranger

On a starry Autumn evenin' at the Prancin' Pony,
When we met up with the ranger; I was far to scared to sleep.
So we took turns a watchin' out the window for the Nazgul
'Til the silence go too much, and he began to speak.

He said, "Frodo, I've spent my life readin' fear in people's faces
And knowin' what their chances were and what they had to hide.
So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're in great trouble
For a taste of your "Old Winyards" I'll will be your guide."

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed some "Old Toby" and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "if you're to survive this quest , boy, ya gotta keep outta sight.

With wraiths - you got to know when to burn'em, when to drown 'em,
Know when to hide away and know when to run.
You never use the One ring when the Nazgul're hunting for you.
There'll be time enough for restin' when the Quest is done.

Now ev'ry Ranger knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' when to run away away and knowing when to fight.
'cause ev'ry fight has a winner and ev'ry fight a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to see the next day's light."

So when he'd finished speakin', he turned back towards the window,
Knocked out his pipe and was lost to his own thought.
And somewhere in the darkness the Ranger dreamt of Arwen.
But in his final words I found small comfort.

You got to know when to burn'em, when to drown 'em,
Know when to hide away and know when to run.
You never use the One ring when the Nazgul're hunting for you.
There'll be time enough for restin' when the Quest is done.

Also, the vote deadline will be this Friday when I will post the results as well as the next theme.

Thank you.

Elempi
That was spectacular! Once again you have proven to us why you're on this show!! Way to go dog!

Saucy
That was...interesting. I really did enjoy how you brought your own instruments. Vocally, however, it wasn't your best performance. Still, you did your best, so I'll give you props for that.

TORE
I'll tell you now that you're one of my favorites in this competition. I was really excited when I found out that you were going to be singing this song because I knew you'd rock it! Way to go!

Celuien
I actually liked that performance. It wasn't the best performance of the night, but it was definetly, in my opinion, your best performance. Way to go girl!

Gurthang
That was amazing dude! Probably the best performance of the night!! We have a hot one tonight!!

Anguirel
I must say that that was another interesting, however, it wasn't as interesting as Saucy's. It was entertaining, yes, but the vocals were quite off. I don't know what else to say.

Mith
You're another one of my favorites. I think you rocked that performance! What a way to end the show!! Way to go!

Elempi ~ Very funny, and entertaining. A little hard to understand sometimes but I still enjoyed it.

Saucy ~ Hmmm...well that was actually very good. A different choice for you but you did a good job.

Ang ~ Well sung, but kinda boring, if you make it t the next round try to pick a more exciting song.

TORE ~ I know you, like Gurthang, were not looking forward to singing country. (actually I don't think many people were, I wasn't looking forward to listening to it :p ) But I think you did a very good job with that song.

Celuien ~ That was pretty good, I don't find it was your best performance but it's pretty high up, good job.

Mith ~ I also really liked that performance, one of the best tonight. Great job!

Gurthang ~ That was pretty good. You seemed like you meant it, keep up the good work!

;) Good luck everyone!

I haven't disappeared! I'm like the Dwarvish disco-music that I DJ... and disco never goes away.

All rilled up from the chaps and the spurs, our contestants nearly yodelled for the top spot for this week's round, but how did these cow-poke fair? Well, with the week (*cough*) gone, it's time for that dreeded elimination.

Who will it be this time? Middle Earth has voted, and now it's time that the results be announced!
. . .

TORE burned up the stage with this hot dwavian edition of "I Like it, I love it." Aulë would be proud of! But did it keep Middle Earth's toes tapping? Congratulations, TORE, you are advancing to the next round.

Saucy was sizzling in his steely stir-fry best with what could easily be one of my favorite "singles" from his imaginative collection. Needless to say it was enough to capture the heart of his fellow's from the -range-, and will be remaining. *squinty grin*

Picking up from one of those all-time Country Music legends, Mith brought down the house with her sensational "The Ranger"... needless to say, her song received the highest amount of votes. Kudos, Mith!

Gurthang's tear jerking performance certainly reminded us what those good natured hairy-footed hobbits are all about, and his fans didn't diappoint him, either. Congratulations, Gurthang, you are continuing to the next round.

Without any question Elempi's preformance certainly had the most..erm character to it :D but never-the-less the quick beat and quick wit got Middle Earth boot scooting toward the polls, winning him a spot in next week's competition.

Celuien plain gets a gold star for calling Elrond "Pappy". Thats all I have to say. Oh, and you're still in the contest, too.

Unfortunately that leaves our truely talented Anguirel as tonight's elimination. Good luck, buddy. *Sad squinting*
. . .

Thats it for tonight, Middle Earth.
The next theme is Jazz, and the next deadline is (as of yet) the 12th of this month. As always, contact the judges or myself (currently it might be safer to contact my "dawg" Glirdan) if you have any questions or conflicts...or questions about conflicts/ conflicts about questions.

Okay, well if we have to change it, Blues would probably be the closest thing.

R'n'B would be more acceptable. At least I've heard it... :p

True enough. I'm fine with R'n'B.

The next theme is Jazz ...Ai! The only genre left that is even more dire than Country 'n Western. The only Jazz worth listening to generally has no lyrics!

I'm fine with R'n'B.Phew! Thank goodness fo that. Is that modern R'n'B, traditional R'n'B or both? Are pop songs heavily influenced by R'n'B (for example, early Rolling Stones tracks) allowed?

littlemanpoet

Aw, you guys have thrown in the bag on Jazz too quickly. See how much fun we all had with that gawdawrful Country? I'm sure a little googling could have turned up some really fun stuff to get swingin' about. And at the very worst we could fall back on something from Steely Dan, ya know? But if y'all wants R&B, I'm game. (sigh)

I'd also much rather prefer R'n'B over Jazz.

Truthfully (and here I again show my lack of music knowledge/history) I don't know the difference, so it makes no difference to me. I'll, again, be using google to help me out on this one. Although, that worked out pretty the last time I had to, so... :D

Well I have googled and still haven't a clue .... only a fortuitous fondness for Desert Island discs bailed me out last time (So many thanks to Clarissa Dickson- Wright...). This may be the end of the road... :( I don't like most jazz but at least I know what it is....and I might've found some Ella Fitzgerald....

Mith - if you're still looking for information, you might try Ray Charles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Charles) or Aretha Franklin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aretha_Franklin). I've been researching what constitutes R&B myself and came across those two perfomers as the ones I actually know. :)

Elempi comes on stage, slouch-strutting his way to the spotlight.

"Wassup. Be cool. I gots a good'un for you all. This song be from the philezzz of one Finarfin Gaye an' it be called 'I heard it through the Elfvine". I hope y'all take to it kindly like."

A rhythmic backbeat sets it up an' Elempi starts snappin' his fingers, shufflin' along the floor in a sauntering dance step, smooth as a cat with mike in hand.

Ooh, I bet you're wondering how I c'n sing
'bout your plans to take my bling
With that nasty ol' Rulin' Ring.
Between you an' me I think you know
My ring ain't been touched by you.
It took me by surprise I must say,
When I learned you'd made the One.
Don't you know that...

I heard it through the Elfvine
That ol' ever lovin' osanwë line.
Oh I heard it through the Elfvine,
Oh and I'm just about to close my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.

I know that a Elf ain't supposed to cry,
But these tears I can't hold inside.
Losin' Arda would end my life you see,
Cause it means that much to me.
You would have told me yourself
That you made a Ring to capture mine.
But Saury...

I heard it through the Elfvine
That ol' ever lovin' osanwë line.
Oh I heard it through the Elfvine,
Oh and I'm just about to close my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.

People say believe half of what you see,
Son, and none of what you hear.
I know you tryin' to confuse us
With all that stuff from the palantirs-
Do you plan to lure me in
With that Ring just like with those nine Men?
Don't you know...

I heard it through the Elfvine
That ol' ever lovin' osanwë line.
Oh I heard it through the Elfvine,
Oh and I'm just about to close my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.

Elempi breaks off the song but the backbeat continues as he starts shouting into the mike to the beat:

Ain' no way!
you gonna win heah!
'Cause we Free People!
gonna stand firm heah!
We gonna stand!
and not back down now!
Can I hear it!
from the crowd now! Yeah!

Put 'em togetha!
Hold back the Dark Lord!
High above you head now!
Hold back the Dark Lord!

Ain' no way!
you gonna win heah!
etc. etc. until the crowd's roaring, drowning out Elempi and the backbeat; Elempi bows and leaves the stage.

At the suggestions of Gurthang & (secondarily & indirectly :D) Celuien, here's a little Ray Charles in Hit the Road Jack, sung by Theoden/All of Edoras & Wormtongue.

(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.)
What you say?
(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.)

Woah Theoden King, don't treat me so mean,
You're actin' like the meanest old King that I've ever seen.
I guess if you said so
I'd have to pack my things and go. (That's right)

(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.)
What you say?
(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more, no more, no more, no more.)
(Hit the road Worm and don't you return no more.)

Now Theoden, listen here, don't ya treat me this-a way
Cause you'll be back on your feet some day.
(Don't care - I am, Gandalf's made me well)
(we ain't got no place here for you and your spell.)
Well, I guess if you say so
I'd have to pack my things and go.

Well
(don't you return no more.)
Uh, what you say?
(don't you return no more.)
I didn't understand you
(don't you return no more.)
You can't mean that
(don't you return no more.)
Oh, now Theoden, please
(don't you return no more.)
What you tryin' to do to me?
(don't you return no more.)
Oh, don't treat me like that
(don't you return no more.)

A Viewer's Suggestion:

Apart from those already mentioned...early Rolling Stones would count as R&B. Otis Redding, anything from the film "The Blues Brothers", Wilson Pickett, Smokey Robinson (you should be able to do something with Tracks of My Tears, Mith...)

Oh and the fact that such fine performers as we've seen on this programme were so reluctant to cover great singers like Ella, Billie, Sarah Vaughan etc, or to pastiche the songwriting genius of Cole Porter and Gershwin, was really very disappointing. *shakes head*

This is a tune called Think, original version by Aretha Franklin (it starts about two minutes into this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0gAVQqrmyo&mode=related&search=) from The Blues Brothers if anyone is interested) and represents what Nerdanel might have told Fëanor before he went about all of that Oath business.

Think (think) think (think) think (think)
think (think) think (think) think (think)

You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see?
Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free

Let's go back, let's go back, let's go way on back when
You had your pride, oh yes you did, but you weren't always so mad
I ain't no Ainu, I ain't no Vala with decree
But it don't take bein' on high TQ to see that this ain't what should be.

You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see?
Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free

Oh freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, yeah freedom
Freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, ooh freedom

There ain't nothing I can do. I can't stop you so I won't (I won't)
But won't you try to see that you can't win, so don't go, just don't

You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see?
Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free.

Morgoth's walking around Arda, playing games that he can score
And I ain't gonna be the loser my way, ah, be careful you don't lose yours

You better think (think) think about what you're 'bout to do, don't ya see?
Yeah, think (think, think), let your rage go, let yourself be free

You need me (need me) and I need you (don't you know)
But if you go there ain't nothing I can do

Oh freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, yeah freedom
Freedom (freedom), freedom (freedom), freedom, ooh freedom

There ain't nothing I can do. I can't stop you so I won't (I won't)
But won't you try to see that you can't win, so don't go, just don't

You better think (think) think about what you're trying to do to me
Yeah, think (think, think), let your mind go, let yourself be free

You need me (need me) and I need you (don't you know)
But if you go there ain't nothing I can do

(To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it)

(To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it)

(To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it)

(To the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, to the bone for deepness, think about it)

You had better stop and think before you think, think!!

*clears throat* Well, here we are again for another delightful round of Gurthang-don't-know-his-genres-well-enough. I was pretty much limited to Ray Charles, BB King, and Aretha Franklin. I couldn't find any BB King anywhere, and TORE has (under my guidance) done a song by Ray already, so I didn't want to double up. So it was Aretha that I chose, which now means it will look like I'm copying off Celuien and will be doubling up anyway. I don't suppose you'd believe I had the song done before she had posted hers? Anyway, my song is simple called Silmaril and I will be singing as Thingol to Beren regarding his daughter and the fetching of a Silmaril. (listen to Respect by Aretha Franklin to get a feel of how it might sound.)

(oo) What you want
(oo) Beren, I got
(oo) What you need
(oo) Do you know I got it?
(oo) All I'm askin'
(oo) Is for a little Silmaril when you come back (just a little one)
Hey Beren (just a little one) when you get back
(just a little one) mister (just a little one)

I ain't gonna do you harm that's what I swore
Ain't gonna do you harm (oo) But what I want (oo)
All I'm askin' (oo)
Is for a little Silmaril when you come back (just a little one)
Beren (just a little one) when you get back (just a little one)
Yeah (just a little one)

If I'm to give you my daughter's hand
And all I'm askin' in return is a gem
You should hold me generous
When you come back (just a, just a, just a, just a)
Yeah Beren (just a, just a, just a, just a)
When you get back (just a little one)
Yeah (just a little one)

------ instrumental break ------

Ooo, your deeds (oo)
Braver than many (oo)
But guess what? (oo)
I love my daughter plenty (oo)
So I want you to do (oo) for me
Is give me a Silmaril when you come back (Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil)
Yeah Beren (Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil)
Bring it to me (Silmaril, just a little one)
When you get back, now (just a little one)

S-I-L-M-A-R-I-L
Find and bring one back to me
S-I-L-M-A-R-I-L
That is what it must be

Oh (bring it to me, bring it to me,
bring it to me, bring it to me)
A little Silmaril (bring it to me, bring it to me,
bring it to me, bring it to me)
Whoa, Beren (just a little one)
A little Silmaril (just a little one)
I'm not lyin' (just a little one)
About this errand (just a little one)
So you better start movin' (just a little one)
Times is wastin' (just a little one)
(Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil) 'maril
When you come back (Sil, Sil, Sil, Sil)
If you should walk in (Silmaril, just a little one)
You must have a gem (just a little one)
I got to have (just a little one)
A little Silmaril (just a little one)

The Saucepan Man

Ahem! Apologies for the delay.

The Wikipedia entry for rhythm and blues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythm_and_blues) provides a rather extensive list of artists associated with the genre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_R%26B_musicians), including some very well-known acts (including Sade, Mith). Yet still I found it hard to settle on a suitable song.

In the end, I chose a touching ditty concerning misplaced love, by the popular Middle-earth singer, Estel Wingfoot (formerly of the Wingfoot 5).

*The lights dim and then brighten again slightly to reveal a dark figure (sans pans) sporting a fedora and ranger cloak. The stage has been transformed into a cobbled street. As the music begins, the Saucepan Man (for 'tis he) begins to advance down street, lighting the cobblestones as he steps on them in time with the beat. Occasionally he stops to moonwalk, juggle his fedora, spin on the spot and clutch his (erm) ranger tackle, shrieking tunefully as he does so.*

She was more like a glacial queen of the Rohirrim
I said fair maid, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will fight in the war, win renown
She said I am the one, who will fight in the war, win renown

She told me her name was Éowyn, of Théoden’s kin
Then her head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will fight in the war, win renown

Gilraen always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young maid’s hearts
And Arwen always told me be careful on your quest
And be careful of what you do 'cause my eye is fixed on you (hey hey)

Éowyn is not my lover
But she's a girl who thinks that I am the one
And her cage is now undone
She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone

From Dunharrow down the eastward road
To war with the men she rode
She made her stand, said she was no man
Took the Witch-King down
Almost died in the war with renown
So take my strong advice, just remember that maidens can fight (they can fight)

She laid out cold in the White City
The infirmary
Then athelas brought her back to life
And her eyes then met mine
She who fought in the war with renown (baby)

Gilraen always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young maid’s hearts
From the moment she first saw me
‘Twas a shadow she pursued
But she resolved to face her doom
When I rode into the tomb (hey hey)

Éowyn is not my lover
But she’s a girl who thinks that I am the one
And her cage is now undone

Éowyn is not my lover
But she’s a girl who thinks that I am the one
And her cage is now undone
She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone

She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone

Éowyn is not my lover
But she’s a girl who thinks that I am the one
And her cage is now undone
She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone

She thinks I am the one, and her cage is now undone
She thinks I am the one

Éowyn is not my lover
Éowyn is not my lover
Éowyn is not my lover
Éowyn is not my lover
Éowyn is not my lover
Éowyn is not my lover

Mithalwen arrives late as usual, her flustered state not entirely due to having to pour herself into quite such tight trousers and scrape her hair back so hard. She sings as Galadriel about Saruman :

Smooth talking traitor.

He's allying with a different strength
And playing a dangerous game.
Placing high stakes, making hearts ache.
He's named in many languages.
Curunir and Saruman, Sharku or Curumo.
Eru help him, when he falls.

Palantir life, Ainur boy.
We move to late against Dol Guldur - that was your ploy.
Honeyed lies and Uruk Hai,
When you require the ring and desire for higher heights.

No place for nostalgia or trusting hearts
When kings are bewitched,
Tree-lords are stirring, and realms fall apart.

No need to ask.
He's a smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor

Coast to coast, Valinor to Endor, Maia of Aulë .
Between Arnor and Gondor, in Orthanc, loyalty for sale.

Face to face, each classic case.
We shadow box
you double cross,
Yet need the chase.

A council to lead, duty to uphold.
Betrays all his allies, he wants the ring of gold.
His voice is an angel's but his heart is cold.

No need to ask.
He's a smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,

Coast to coast, Valinor to Endor, Maia of Aulë .
Between Arnor and Gondor, in Orthanc, loyalty for sale.

Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor,
Smooth talking traitor...

If this ain't RnB I am sorry.. I have a complete mental block on this that I am unabke to identify in my mind the genre even though I know some of the songs others have used. It probably doesn't help that I thought Ray Charles was a ventriloquist :( .....

Elempi

That was a marginally above average performance. You didn't have any bad parts so to so and it was a rather smooth performance. You enjoy yourself out there and you can entertain as well. You dance like a drunk hippo though...

The Only Real Estel

That was an... excellent... performance. Well done young man. I think the competition has reached a stage where even the smallest mistake could get you eliminated. I don't think you should worry, you seem to have made no mistakes.

Celuien

I think that was a rather weak performance. You could have done so much better but instead you churned out a rather average and not at all entertaining song. I've heard better things at Karaoke Queen.

Gurthang

Once again you have shown why you are my favorite. You sang that very well and I was entertained this week as well, I'd like to see you win this competition. Good luck.

Saucepanman

I am shocked. You really can sing. You don't dance that bad either. Ahem, apart from that the song had some shaky parts but I think you did alright.

Mithalwen

I heard you were a nervous wreck before this round and were considering leaving. I must say for someone in that sort of state you've quite possibly given us the performance of the night. Lets hope for the sake of competition you do not ever drop that nervousness.

Here are my comments for this round:

Elempi ~ I agree with Cowell on this, you looked like you were having fun and you were very entertaining. Great job!

TORE ~ That was an OK performance. It wasn't one of your best, but it was still fairly good.

Celuien ~ Well hun, that wasn't my favorite of you performance. You snag it well but I think you would have been able to pick a better song.

Gurthang ~ I loved that. I really enjoyed, though it was kinda weird, I think it was one of the best this round.

Saucy ~ A bit long and repetitive, but your singing and dancing was good. In all, it was entertaining.

Mithalwen ~ I know you weren't to sure what kind of song we wanted you to pick, but I think you chose a good one. I really enjoyed that performance.

Good luck everyone! :D

Elempi - That was awsome dude! I'm going to say now that at this point in the competition, it's going to get harder for the voters to choose who to keep in. Still, I think you'll be with us a little while longer! Keep it up dog!

TORE - Week after week you come out here and amaze us. If I don't see you in the finals, I'll eat my socks!

Celuien - That wasn't one of your best performances by far. You could have done so much better. It just didn't work for me girl.

Gurthang - You're an amazing performer. There were a few spots where you were a little off key. Other than that, you rocked it!

Saucy - You too are an amazing performer and we have finally seen the best vocal performance from you ever! That was really entertaining and you have shown us why you're still in this! Good job dog!

Mithalwen - Everybody knows you're one of my favorites and I wasn't dissapointed. I knew you had trouble picking a song, but the song you picked was perfect for you. The vocals were amazing, the performance was amazing. You have it all. What a way to end the show!

It's... finally here, the Finals, that is. And all eyes are fixed on Rivendell. Or, at least they ought to be... Tomorrow, however, there will be one less contestant, only five preformers to rock the Hall of Fire. Just who's walking tonight? Thats what we're about to find out.

*turns toward the six remaining preformers*
---

First of all I have to congratulate each and everyone of you for making it this far, and also that I hate to see anyone go. But Middle Earth has voted, so if I may continue alphabetically...

- The judges might not have liked her latest lyrics, but Celuien's fans were not swayed by their comments. Personally, I don't think I want to know what madness drove - of all people - Sleepy Cowell into a Karaoke bar. You are safe.

- Elempi has long been an Idol favorite, and according to the judges, preformed nicely. But did Middle Earth agree with Cowell and Wilwa? Yes. You're safe... And don't worry about Cowell's drunken hippo comment, he's really just jealous you were taking his 'secret' moves.

- Sleepy Cowell's "favorite" contestant so far, Gurthang also received gold stars from Wilwa, however that did not save him from the hot seat. As one of the two lowest contestants, Gurthang, we'll have you preform again after the other is revelled.*

- Mithalwen might have been trapped in an artist's nightmare preparing for her song, but her voice was a dream. Not only is she safe tonight, probably very relieved.

- Without a doubt Saucey has been jingling and jangling his tunes up and down the Hall with a mixture of great success and Westron spices, but even after impressing Glirdy, and somewhat amusing Sleepy... as far as we're able to tell... Middle Earth was not swayed by the way you... Wok. I'm sorry to say, but are also in the hot seat, and will be preforming later tonight.*

- Last but definately not least, TORE is safe once more from the elimination.

* (You won't need to actually post since the song will be a repeat. I'll do all the work for you.)

---

*Vala leads Gurthang and Saucy to the stage where they are urged to sing their Jazz/R&B tunes once more...before Vala cuts in just when the songs pick up.*

There you are! Audience... vote now, you have ten more seconds.. five, four, three, two, one-- OKAY!

*Vala squints*

While those are being tallied up, I'm pleased to announce that of the four still sitting the top two artists have yet to be revelled... so why don't we do that, hmm? Congratulations TORE, for your great voice, and also... Mithalwen!

Oh... Alright, fine.

I'm not pleased at ALL to announce that we will have to say good bye to one of our talented preformers -now-. Gurthang... Saucy... It has been wonderful having both of you sing here for us, and I hope the experiance has been just as great. Maybe you'll get further next time... but as for now... Gurthang, you are safe: The Saucepan man will be leaving the Hall of Fire forever. My apologizes to the many Pan-fans out there.

Thats all for tonight, keep checking for updates, and please keep voting.

I must say that I'm quite upset to see you leave us Saucy. However, I have a feeling that you'll be doing something else musically related in your future. The best of luck to you!

And for everyon else, I shall be doing an interview for this weeks Newspaper with this weeks elimination and with our host, Vala Seacrest. So look out! ;) :D

Hey, Estel once again. :)
Today I'll be singing Bad Day by Daniel Powter in the voice of Frodo, singing a song (probably taught him by Bilbo) about Sauron and his bad day a long, long time ago...

Where is the Power you needed the most
He cuts off your finger and the Magic is lost
And as you stand where his father lay
Looks like your spirits blowin' away
'Cause you don't have that One Ring on

You joined the fight just to land a few blows
But you never know quite how the battle goes
You orcs weren't nearly great as you thought
You tried to escape but now you're caught
And now you don't have that One Ring on

Cause you had a bad day
They took your One down
And without you the battle's all turned around
You said they can't win
They wouldn't last long
But when the end came it was you who was wrong
You had a bad day
Historians don't lie
You're plan has broke down and now you'll just be an Eye
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

You thought It was safe as could be
On your finger but now you see
And now you don't have that One Ring on

You had a bad day
They took your One down
And without you the battle's all turned around
You said they can't win
They wouldn't last long
But when the end came it was you who was wrong
You had a bad day
Historians don't lie
You're plan has broke down and now you'll just be an Eye
You had a bad day

Sometimes your Power's gone in a blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That with It you could've been so strong
But now it's gone

So where is the Power you needed the most
Oh you and It
He cuts off your finger and the Magic is lost

Cause you had a bad day
They took your One down
And without you the battle's all turned around
You said they can't win
They wouldn't last long
But when the end came it was you who was wrong
You had a bad day
Historians don't lie
You're plan has broke down and now you'll just be an Eye
You had a bad day
You lost yourself and the fight
And how does it feel for one more time
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day

Elempi comes out on stage and stands before the audience, clad simply and his face serious.

"This particular piece was #1 during the Seventh Age, May 7, 1977. It is known as "The Orc Tower Cirith Ungol" and it was performed by the Eagles of Manwë.

It is a little nightmarish, I grant you, but such is most appropriate of "such an evil place". I hope you can appreciate it."

A five man band backs up Elempi: drums, bass, acoustic guitar, and two lead guitars which play lead duet to astounding effect (check it out for real some time; really rather breathtaking).

On a dark Mordor orcway, cold wind in my hair
Foul stench of sulphur, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw poisonous light
The Ring weighed heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to rest for the night
The Watchers stood in the doorway;
I heard their fiendish yell
And I was thinking to myself,
'This could be my death, only one way to tell'
Then I put on the Ring and corpses showed me the way
There were Dead orcs up the stairway,
It was as if they said...

Welcome to the Orc tower Cirith Ungol
Such an evil place (Such an evil place)
Such an evil face
Plenty of room at the Orc tower Cirith Ungol
Any time of year (Any time of year)
You can find death here

'Her mind is full of devouring', said one of the orcish chiefs,
'She got a lot of ugly, ugly orcs she calls meals
How they dance in their cocoons, sweet Spider meat.
We'd best remember, or someday dance to forget'

I called up to my Master,
'I will not say the Day is done!'
They said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since Sauron this tower won'
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the Orc tower Cirith Ungol
Such an evil place (Such an evil place)
Such an evil face
They killin' each other in the Orc tower Cirith Ungol
What a nice surprise (what a nice suprise)
Evil self-destroys

Darkness in the ceiling,
The blood on knives is nice
And Frodo said, 'They are all just slaves here, of the Dark Lord's malice'
And in the Dark Lord's Tower
Wraiths gather for the feast
They smell it with their sneering sense,
But they just can't find the Ring

Last thing I remember, we were
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place we were before
'It's no use,' said dear Frodo,
'The Ring's taking over my will.
I can wish it gone all I like,
But I can never be free!'

The lead duet guitars finish a superb melody and harmony as the lights go down.

Two more days to the deadline and we just have two songs up so far. We've extended the deadline for pretty much every week now so uh... could we have everything up on time for this one? :)

We've extended the deadline for pretty much every week now so uh... could we have everything up on time for this one? :)

To add to that:

I don't want to sound exclusive or anything - I'd hate to see somebody left out because they couldn't get a song in - but I think continually extending the deadline somewhat cheapens the show.

I mean...what's the point of having a (*drumroll please* :D) deadline if everyone knows it's just going to be extended anyway?

Again, I'm not wishing elimination on anyone because they're short on time (I know how it feels) but still...

Sleepy Ranger
08-25-2006, 01:29 PM
As I've stated earlier if you're short of time please drop us a message and we'll take care of it but really I find it hard to believe so many people are hard pressed to post a song on time for uh... three months... :p

Seriously speaking though, if something restrains you from posting please let us know and we'll make sure you're given an extension. Yes, I've decided extensions are going to be made exclusively for someone who requires them. (and has a reason to back that up. If its personal then we respect your privacy and shall not prod) It may sound a bit extravagant but its the only way I see posts coming in on time. Sorry if this is an inconvenince to anyone. :)

There will be an extention here again, however, so you can post if you'd like, Mith. :D

Also, Celuien, I'll be changing the deadline until after the weekend for now on. I should have seen that before, but didn't catch it.

...Also (again), Sleepy, the summer is ending and school is getting back into session. I'm not good with remembering ages, so I can't recall most of our contestant's scholarly level, but for those that are in school, this is a very busy time. I know it is for me, at least! :p

This song is Saruman's version of a tune called "Joy to the World." The original from Three Dog Night was a chart topper in 1971...

Gandalf Greyhame was an Istar
Thought he was a friend of mine
'Til the day I showed him my true colors
Not just White, but many others.
And I asked him if he liked my plans.

Sayin' join with me now
Rule all the world now.
The power is ours for the takin'
Power for you and me.

If I could rule all of Middle-earth
I tell you what I'd do.
I'd put everything in order the way I'd like to see it
'Cause I know what's best for all of you.

I'm sayin' join with me now
Rule all the world now.
The power is ours for the takin'
Power for you and me.

You know I'm not so evil
I just have to compromise.
Anything to shape the world I want.
But if you won't help me like I asked
I'll have warn you that ain't wise.

I'm sayin' join with me now
Rule all the world now.
The power is ours for the takin'
Power for you and me.

I'm sayin' join with me now
Rule all the world now.
The power is ours for the takin'
Power for you and me.

Rule all the world, it's all mine now.
Rule all the world, it's all mine now.

So you won't join with me now?
I'll rule all the world now.
And lock you on high Orthanc.
And lock you on high Orthanc.

So you won't join with me now?
I'll rule all the world now.
And lock you on high Orthanc.
And lock you on high Orthanc.

(repeat last verse and fade)

Whew, just before the deadline! (I've got about 9 hours left in the 27th where I am.) Sorry that I'm cutting it close, but a recent storm has my internet on the fritz.

Anyway, I'm Gurthang (haven't changed!), and I'm back for the next round. Looking at the list of choices for this weeks number, I saw a lot of great tunes. Being a sentimental type ( ;) ), I decided to go with the tried and true.

This song is I'm A Ringbearer sung by Frodo Baggins just after he received the Ring and begins to see it's true nature. (Play I'm A Believer by The Monkees, which was #1 in 1967, but most of you probably know it. :D )

I thought Bilbo was just telling fairy tales
A story he had made up just for me.
The Ring was bound to find me
That's the way it seemed.
He gave it to me and fled the scene.

Then I took his place, now I'm the Ringbearer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
Here's the Ring, I'm the Ringbearer!
I feel it taking over me inside.

I thought it was more or less a little thing,
Seems the more I had it the worse it got.
Why'd he have to leave it?
Hanging on it's chain.
Now all that it's causing me is pain.

Cause I took his place, now I'm the Ringbearer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
Here's the Ring, I'm the Ringbearer!
I feel it taking over me inside.

I will spare you the trauma of dressing either as Right Said Fred or a Balrog (though Balrog isn't far from the mark) having changed my mind at the last minute, I went for the novelty song and back to 1992 (US) 91 UK .. cos I just love the original :D . THis version is sung by the Balrog of Moria to the Fellowship of the Ring on the Bridge of Khazad Dum. Inexplicably Tolkien did not include this in his account ....

I'm too Deadly

I'm too deadly for Gandalf, for Gandalf, too deadly for Gandalf
But Gandalf will kill me.

I was too deadly for Durin, for for Durin, too deadly for Durin,
So deadly a bane.
And i was too deadly for Balin, too deadly for Balin,
Ori and Oin.
And I'm too deadly for your party
Too deadly for your party
No way I'll let you depart here.

I'm a Balrog, you know what I mean
And I'll wave my fiery sword on the bridge here
Yeah on the bridge here, on the bridge here, yeah
I'll wave my fiery sword on the bridge here

I'm too deadly for Moria, too deadly for Moria
Too deadly by far
And I'm too deadly to have wings
Too deadly to have wings or to need rings

'Cos I'm a Balrog you know what I mean
And I'll wave my fiery sword on the bridge here
Yeah on the bridge here, on the bridge here, yeah
I'll swing my thonged whip on the bridge here

I'm too deadly for my, too deadly for my, too deadly for my...

'Cos I'm a Balrog you know what I mean
And I'll wave my fiery sword on the bridge here
Yeah on the bridge here, on the bridge here yeah
I'll swing my thonged whip on the bridge here

I'm too deadly for my orcs, too deadly for my orcs
Poor scared little orcs
I'm too deadly for Gandalf, for Gandalf, too deadly for Gandalf
But Gandalf will kill me.

And I'm too deadly for this song

Estel ~ I really enjoyed that, you picked a song that really suited you. Great job!

Elempi ~ Great song, loved how you sang it. I'm very impressed.

Mith ~ Uhm, I didn't really enjoy that, it was rather repetitive and didn't show off that lovely voice of yours. I thinkyou could have done alot better.

Celuien ~ I really enjoyed it, I'd say it was one of your best performances.

Gurthang ~ A bit short, but still enjoyable. Good job.

Good luck to everyone! :D

For the first time ever in this competitions short (but eventful) history there has been a tie for the elimination. The judges will now vote. Two of you will be facing the dreaded risk of elimination. I will confirm the two higest vote recipents as well as the next theme so you can start preperation (all of you can actually :p) for your next performance.

TORE, Elempi, Gurthang, Mithalwen and Celuien... which of you two are safe and the highest vote recievers?

Elempi, no it isn't you... quit jumping about. ;)
TORE and Gurthang the two of you recieved the highest number of votes and are safe. You may not post your performance till the elimination has been done though.

The next theme is Songs of the 21st Century.

I think it was a bit of a risk picking such a famous song but you did alright. Nothing too over the top, a bit of flair and yeah, that was a pretty good performance. Well done.

Elempi

Now that was definitely a major risk. Such a popular song. Known by everyone, loved by everyone. You do have to take a risk every now and then. You've shown plenty of class in this competition and you've done very well so far. Good luck to you.

Celuien

I did not like that. Had you done that five rounds ago I would have called it average but now... I don't mean to be rude but... that was horrendous, boring, pathetic and I don't think you'll last this week. Karaoke Queen is still accepting entrants.

Gurthang

Ah! My favorite contestant performing one of my favorite songs. You pulled it off very well, you kept me entertained. You've shown us just why you deserve to be here again next week.

Mithalwen

I heard you had some problems before the performance but in the end you came up with something alright. You seemed to enjoy yourself. Definitely not your strongest performance I don't know if this will see you through the week but well, I think it was okay.

With five remaining in the competition the Hall of Fire was growing hot. Save for Sleepy Cowell, of course. :p

Tonight another contestant will leave the Hall 'forever', and those remaining will ALL be on the hot seat, so to speak. Now since there are an odd number of contestants remaining three will have to preform for us tonight. With that said, lets get crack'n:

Celuien worked magic on an old favorite of mine, but according to the Sleep-ster, simply croaked. Unfortunately Celuien will be part of the three who will be in the hot seat tonight. Good luck.

Elempi shocked Middle Earth with his dark theme this round, and it seems to have recieved mixed reviews from both the judges and the voters. You too will be preforming tonight from the hot seat.

When Gurthang ran puffing on stage none of the judges were sure if the out of breath star could cough out something quite as catchy, but apparently anoribics is not a factor for him! Congratulations, Gurthang, you are safe tonight.

By the grace of the judges (and the alarming amounts of Orca Cola Wilwa has been drinking) Mithalwen was given a later preformance time, but unfortunately that was not enough to save her from the hot seat tonight. Personally, I thought she was on fire.

The Only Real Estel, I guess you already know that you're safe for tonight, so sit back and relax while your fellow preformers battle it out for the third and fourth place.
- - -
And the votes are in! Will you three please join me here on the stage again?
*puts an arm around Celuien and Elempi*
The preformers to remain for the next round are... Mithalwen and Elempi. Celuien, here is five hundred gold, go out to th-- er, we'll talk about it later, alright?

So thats it for now. Keep watching, listening, jingling and... tingling... for the next round! I know I am...? How much mead did I have after I wrote this Wilwa? Huh?
- - -

The next theme will be Songs of the 21st Century. You will have two weeks to submit your preformances, so aim to have them up before the 18th.

I may regret this, but here goes. I like the song and I like the music of it, and it's one of the few I know from the 21st century. So here goes. From EvenstarEssence, troubadours who seem to know how to sing about Eowyn:

"Bring Me To Life"

(Eowyn looks on from a distance as Aragorn, his Rangers, Eomer and Gimli enter the Paths of the Dead)

How can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where I've become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home.

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I've become

Now that I know what I'm without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me whole
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I've become

Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

Frozen inside without the hope of your love for you have gone to walk among the dead

All this time I couldn't see
kept in the dark until you were in front of me
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
You've opened my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't leave me to die in Rohan
there must be something more
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I've become

(Bring me to life)
I ve been living a lie, there's nothing inside
(Bring me to life)

Sometimes a song is so appropriate that you hardly have to change the words.....

Alright, so I'm Estel (as I so often am up here in front of you) & I'm going back to my rocking roots a little bit with some Bon Jovi for you all. This one's called It's My Ring (It's My Life) sung by Frodo...probably in or around Mount Doom.

This ain't a tool for the simple-minded
No golden trinket for the power-blinded
I won't be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud

It's my Ring
It's now or never
I just wanna live forever
I won't let it go while I'm alive
(It's my Ring)
To throw it away just wouldn't pay
Like Boro said
There's more than one way
I won't let it go while I'm alive
It's my Ring

This is when I start standing my ground
No matter what they say I'll never back down
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
I'll take this One break

It's my Ring
It's now or never
I just wanna live forever
I won't let it go while I'm alive
(It's my Ring)
To throw it away just wouldn't pay
Like Boro said
There's more than one way
I won't let it go while I'm alive
'Cause It's my Ring

Gonna stand tall when they're searching me out
Don't duck, don't hide, baby, don't back down

It's my Ring
And it's now or never
'Cause I just wanna live forever
I won't let it go while I'm alive
(It's my Ring)
To throw it away just wouldn't pay
Like Boro said
There's more than one way
I won't let it go while I'm alive

It's my Ring
And it's now or never

*Gurthang walks in, glances at watch, and says:*

Well, I'm almost late... which is right on time for me! *burst out laughing. Members of the crowd look at each other awkwardly. Gurthang realizes that no one else is laughing and immediately stops.*

Hmm, tough crowd I guess. Anyway, I have prepared a song for you tonight; I really hope you enjoy it. This one's done by a little know band called Little Hobbiton, and its title is "Shire-land." (Listen to Boondocks (http://us.video.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=1&pmmsid=1361340&referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowsmedia.com) by Little Big Town.) It has become very popular all throughout the Shire, so much so that no one really remembers the individuals who originally did it... other than the name that they called their group. Anyway, I'll be singing as Pippin, but really any Hobbit would know it. Here goes everything.

[Chorus:]
I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the Shire-land
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul
In the Shire-land

I can feel that
Good tilled earth underneath my feet
I can hear the
whisper of the wind in the trees
And it sings to me and sounds familiar

[Chorus]

I can taste that pipeweed leaf
And it's still so sweet
When it's grown there
In the fields of the South Farthing
And it reminds me of those rolling green hills

[Chorus]

It's where I learned about livin'
Its where I learned about love
Its where I learned about working hard, and having a little was just enough
It's where I learned about laughin'
And knowin' how to have fun
You can take it or leave it
This is me
This is who I am
Give me a small hole, an oval door, and a grassy hill
And thats home to me, feels like home to me

[Chorus]

You get some pipes I'll get the ale
We'll go dancin' at the Green Dragon
Sing some songs on a Saturday night
Dance until the morning bright

Well after some deliberation I shall be singing in the voice of Elwing addressing Earendil a song by a famous Georgian, not as famous here as our own dear Heren Istarion but .... nevermind eh.... Statistics quoted are very much of the damned lies variety :D

"Nine Million Orcs"

There were nine million orcs in Thangorodrim
That's a fact,
It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I loved you enough to fly.

We are twelve thousand miles from Middle Earth,
That's a guess,
I don't know if it's true
But I know my heart will always be with you.

I'm blessed by the light of you, the Evening Star
So don't call me a liar,
Just believe everything that I say

There are a BILLION people in the world
More or less
and it makes me feel quite small
But you're the one I love the most of all

[INTERLUDE]
You're high in the heavens
Silmaril in our sight
And I'll never tire,
Of the hope you give each night

There were nine million orcs in Thangorodrim
That's a fact,
It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I loved you enough to fly.

And there were nine million orcs in Thangorodrim
And you know that I loved you enough to fly!

Good afternoon lords, ladies, kings and wights! Tonight is certainly one of the most thrilling nights of the Middle Earth Idol competition as we break away from yet another preformer... leaving -dun dun dun- Three more left! After tonight the competition gets a little trickier as the preformers will be asked to take on two songs. Though they will have longer to complete this challenge, it is -indeed- a challenge, as one of the songs will be 'judges' choice'. Frightening...

But thats AFTER tonight. Hit the lights and sit down, because we're breaking it down to the top three. In no particular order (other than alphabetical) our current contestants are: Gurthang, littlemanpoet, Mithalwen and TORE, but who remains?

- - -

Gurthang might not be laughing much longer. His preformance was brilliant, but unfortunately this time he did not escape the hot seat.

However littlemanpoet might consider a name change. Styling as Eowyn Elempi nearly tied for the top spot tonight. Congratulations, you are safe.

Even as Mithalwen's work was very touching, the last lady of the contest is in danger. You too are in the hot seat, Mith.

That means that, yes, the rocking TORE takes the lead tonight! Great job!

- - -

*Ahem* If you would take your places. Gurthang and Mithalwen...
*They preform... Vala squints* The lights of the evening star those are NOT. For all of these people snicker about my lazy eye you're sure making it hard-- And it's just not motivated!

Right! And our guest audience has decided... Gurtang remains! Good luck, and good work. Mithalwen, you've really got something going for yourself, but since you've been with our production so long we own your name... No! Just kidding! I didn't mean to say that until the cameras were off! :D

Amazing job, everyone! For you there gents' who remain your second theme is "Bands/Artists beginning with O". A deadline will be posted later. Have fun!

So, just to make sure, we are doing two songs this round: One of our choice, and the other from a band/artist beginning with 'O'?

Sleepy Ranger
09-23-2006, 09:46 AM
No, one is the judge's choice and the other is from a band/artist beginning with 'O'.

If you don't get your song by the 25th then you have a free choice. :)

This will be the picking scheme,

Sleepy Ranger - Gurthang
Glirdan - TORE
Wilwa - Elempi

"Little known they may be,"
said Elempi,
"but the lyrics are meet
and the music sweet.
I give to you a band of limited fame:
'October Poject' is their name.
Troubadors of great merit they,
for giving Aragorn's answer to Eowyn's fay
as he left her alone
among Dunharrow stone.
This is or could be the thought
of Aragorn in a new peril caught."

Chords begin playing in arpeggio on an acoustic guitar, the only background; a single spotlight reveals the singer.

If I could
I would tell you all the truth
I would love you
From the heart

If I could
I would take you in my arms
Take you inside
Into my heart

If I could
I would be the one you seek
When you're hopeless
And afraid

I would shine
Like a lantern in the dark
Take you inside
Into my heart

Though you feel as if
You've found the love you crave
Another claims my heart

If I could
I would always keep you safe
Take you inside
Into my heart

Though you feel as if
You cannot bear to live
I tell you that you are strong

If I could
I would love you as you are
Take you inside
Into my heart

Into my arms
Into my life
If I could

The spotlight goes out, leaving all dark. Dark as Dunharrow.

due to a slip

The slip being that Glirdy and I didn't find out about the "judge's pick" idea until yesterday, leaving us a very small amount of time to make a decision on a song. :p

Perhaps an increase in judge to judge communication is required. ;)

Estel comes out on the stage once again. "Hey everyone! For my "band that starts with 'O'" song I decided to do a tribute to Mithalwen with a song from the Osmonds. It's called Gandalf's Boy (Santa's Boy) and it's sung here by a wishful hobbit child watching Gandalf set off fireworks (or "celebration 'toys'" as he puts it :D).

If Gandalf were my Daddy I'd be good
Every single day of the year
I bet you think I couldn't do it
Yeah I could
With such a respected wizard oh so near

I'd always try to be the kind of boy
Gandalf would want his son to be
Helpful and friendly
Especially when he had his twinkling eye on me

I would dress exactly like my Daddy
I would learn to smoke those colored 'Os'
Maybe he would even teach me how to drive
His little cart along the dirty road

And maybe I would grow a great grey beard
And try to learn to deal with a jerk
Then finally when all the ships disappear
My Daddy would retire from his work
And I would be the one to take his place
Lighting all the celebration 'toys'
I'd be more than willing,
Wow, would it be thrilling
If only I were Gandalf's boy

And I would be the one to take his place
Lighting all the celebration 'toys'
I'd be more than willing,
Wow, would it be thrilling
If only I were Gandalf's boy

(Gandalf's boy, Gandalf's boy, Gandalf's boy........)

Hello... Gurthang, reporting in. So, here I am, back again with another song done by some Hobbits. This one is popular with the younger troop, who's parents think they party just a little too much. It's rather a large group that sings it, so I'm not sure who would do the lead parts, probably Merry and Pippin. Anyway, it's called Hey Ya. (The original is of the same name, but done by Outkast. Note: this song is not very good. I just really needed to get one in. The next one will be much better, I promise. :D)

One two three pints!

We Hobbits don't mess around
Because we love ale so
And this we know fo shooo..
Uh, also what we really want
Is to light up a pipe
Just outside the dooo..
We'll never fight the feelin'
Because what we want is to enjoy right nooww..
Uh, thank God for all our dads
Who made us this ale
'Cause we don't know hooowww...
UH!

Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa..
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa..
Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa..
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa..
Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa..
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa..
Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa..
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa..

You may think we're Tookish
Ohh, you think we're Tookish
But we think you don't get it
'Cause you ain't living at
AaaaaaaaAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaallllll..
We always smoke together
Ohh, we smoke together
But the party's always better when there's ale
InvooooooOOOOOOOoooooooOOOOOOooooooOOOOOlved
If what they say is ("Nothing is forever")
Then why not, Then why not, Then why not
Then why not, Then why not LIIVVEEE?
(Live care-free) So why oh, why oh
Why oh, why oh, why oh don't you just join in
When you know that we're happy heeeerrreeee...
Y'all don't worry about us, just come get some ale

Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa.. (OHH OH)
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa.. (OHH OH)
Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa.. (Just want to smoke some pipeweed, OHH OH)
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa.. (Just want you to let me OHH OH)
Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa.. (OHH OH, just want to have some ale OHH OH)
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa.. (Just want you come join me OHH OH)
Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa.. (I'm, OHH OH I'm, OHH OH)
Heeyy Yaaaaaaaa.. (I'm just being honest OHH OH, I'm just being honest)

Heeeyyy... Yaaaaaaa.. (OHH OH)

The Only Real Estel

Well, why not be the first, eh? :D

Alright, with my free choice I will sing Magic Mirror by Nickelback (Photograph). This is sung by Frodo as he looks into Galadriel's Mirror and sees many things - the Shire being desolated, himself leaving on his journey, places he used to travel - you get the point. Enjoy.

Look at this magic Mirror
Everytime I do it makes me fear
How did our eyes get so red
I'd think by now we'd have turned and fled

And this is where I grew up
Looks like the present owners beat it up
I never thought it'd ever look like that
And there's the Party Tree lying flat

And this is where I spent my time
Now I'd just be walking in mud and slime
Old Farmer Maggot knew I trespassed twice
I must have done it half a dozen times

I wonder if It's too late
Should i go back and try to set things straight
Who knows if its even happened yet
I hope it hasn't but that's no sure bet

Oh oh oh
Oh no I

I see a memory of looking out the back door
I see my traveling gear all spread out on my bedroom floor
I see my Bag End, see them burn it
Goodbye, goodbye

I see a memory of walking out the front door
I see a vision of the Mountain I am searching for
I see my Bag End, see them burn it
Goodbye, goodbye

Remember the Green Dragon
That's what we'd always gather in
Those ruffians must've hated them hangin out
Looks like they've gone and closed it down

We used to hike up and down Bagshot Row
They've dug it up n' turned the gaffer out though
We didn't think we'd find out how it feels
To go a day with less than six square meals

So this is what is to come?
Middle-Earth becomes one big slum
She says I can change it by what I choose
But if I keep on what will I lose?

Oh oh oh

I see the Shire
I see the faces
I can't erase
I can't replace it
I see it now
I can't believe it

So hard to stay
Too hard to leave them

I know I could turn back now
But then I would be going against my vow

I see a memory of looking out the back door
I see my traveling gear all spread out on my bedroom floor
I see my Bag End, see them burn it
Goodbye, goodbye

I see a memory of walking out the front door
I see a vision of the Mountain I am searching for
I see my Bag End, see them burn it
Goodbye, goodbye

Look at this magic Mirror
Everytime I do it makes me fear
Everytime I do it makes me

Hey! I'm not the last one to get a song in! Er... I mean... I'm Gurthang, back again (like always) to send you my extra special song. This little ditty is sung by none other than Arwen, to her true love Aragorn, concerning the human 'gift' of death. It's called I Will Follow You Into the Dark. Here we go! (I Will Follow You Into the Dark (http://us.video.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=1&pmmsid=1669896&referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowsmedia.com) is originally done by Death Cab for Cutie.)

Love of mine, some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark
No white shores, or above green country soar
Just my hand in yours
Waiting for the hint of a spark

If Mandos will decide
That he can be satisfied
And illuminates the NO on his vacancy sign

I will be there beside you
When your soul embarks
And I'll follow you into the dark

In Rivendell, where my father dwells
He found that in love with, Aragorn I had fell
And I held my tongue, as he told me
"Dove, fear with a mortal love."
But I couldn't hold back

If Mandos will decide
That he can be satisfied
And illuminates the NO on his vacancy sign

I will be there beside you
When your soul embarks
And I'll follow you into the dark

You and me, have nothing left to be
You were King of the White Tree
And your life has been full, but age wears down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
Where Eru's made room

If Mandos will decide
That he can be satisfied
And illuminates the NO on his vacancy sign

I will be there beside you
When your soul embarks
And I'll follow you into the dark
And I'll follow you into the dark

This is a borrowing from the great Segeril of Robirrim, who wrote the lyrics regarding some place east of Rhûn; I have changed the lyrics somewhat to befit the occasion.

~ * ~

Finrod Felagund sings a lullaby to Beren in Sauron's dungeon....

I think I'm going to Valinor
that's really really where I'm going to
if I die I will be gone from here
that's what I'm going to do
v v v v v v Valinor
I think it's really where I'm going to
when I finally am quit of here
I'm going to Valinor

I got nothing against Feanor's boys
You know those brothers are such good hosts
I raise my miruvor and give them a toast
I'm sure they know it's not true
I got nothing against Elu Thingol
every time I've been there it's been great
but now I'm leaving and I can't be late
and to the truth be true

That's why I'm going to Valinor
up to the Pelori where I'm going to
when I die I will be gone from here
that's what I'm gonna do
oh v v v v v v Valinor
that's really really where I'm going to
when I finally am quit of here
I'm going to Valinor

I got no quarrel with Dorlomin
the folks in there have given me their best
All my life they've welcomed me as their guest
I sure have loved it too
I shall no longer hear the evil news
I shall no longer fight 'gainst evil ruse
By my oath, Beren, I've nothing to lose
I shall no longer suffer evil use

That's why I'm going to Valinor
up to the Pelori where I'm going to
when I die I will be gone from here
that's what I'm gonna do
oh v v v v v v Valinor
take me Mandos cause I'm going to you
when I finally am quit of here

You ask questions ceaselessly because you have every right to know the answers to each. *squint-wink-stumble*

Sleepy Cowell will not be collecting votes this round, but I will be.. and infact that time is now. Please try to send me said votes by/on Nov. 1st and on the second I will try to have the results of the voting up. In that time our judges can dazzle us with their thoughts. *gazes star-y eyed at Wilwa*

The next round will be described in better detail at the end of the elimination post, but I can say that it will be most likely fairly challenging... possibly more complex... there may or maynot be multiple choice questions, anagrams, an essay, or a hoop of fire near the end. Kidding! You'll find out when we get there... but I do suggest keeping your hair tied back just in case. *nod-squint*

Oh, and I'm getting burned at the end... Cowell wouldn't have it any other way. :p

If there were ever a time for our preformers to panic... it would be now.

The votes have been tallied, the audience collected and our three incredibly talented artist wait patiently for the second to last elimination of the Middle Earth Idol contest. Remaining are: Estel, Guth, and lmp, all of which we owe a round of applause for their hard work and dedication.

In this last round, the contestants were asked to preform two pieces. From those six preformances our audience has selected two to remain, singing until the very end... while, alas, the third will retire to a possibly even more successful musical career tha- I shouldn't have said that. *ahem*

- - -

Even though his career here has been long, and no doubt filled to the brim with thoughtful pieces, Guth collected the least amount of votes last night and will be eliminated. Hopefully this talented artist will continue to shine brightly and not go into hiding (expecially behind plants because thats just silly! ; ))

lmp remains, but will have to fight tooth and nail to beat TORE who has once more preserved his position as Arda's favorite.

- - -

The last round of Middle Earth Idol is about to begin- and you get to decide who the last standing will be! So keep your eyes glued to the palantir and give me money.

(The last round 'assignment' will be posted later after it is discussed between the judges. Enjoy a break guys :D)

I've been building this up for months, but now there is no excuse to NOT be excited for it's coming. The last... the final... round of Middle Earth Idol is here, and though there are only two contestants left, its all eyes on the Hall of Fire where thoooose two are about to turn up the heat... One. Last. Time.

Elempi and TORE have had their break, so its time for business... This last round there will be three songs required from the both of you:

- ANY already preformed piece. This includes those of other contestants or yourself which you would like Middle Earth to remember. (So pick your favorite :D) But, if you are going to select a work which is not of your own creation, please make sure to alter it in some way so that it's your own "take".

-Songs from Live (http://www.google.com/musica?aid=aW4qkV-tKbJ&sa=X&oi=music&ct=result)... because we're hoping the stress doesn't kill anyone! That and it's terribly ironic that two wights would be singing... yeah. Have at it you two! There are links to the songs and then to the lyrics through the Album images (In other words, fairly straightforward).

- And lastly, yet another song of your own choice. (This includes, if you so desire, something of your own creation.)

Do good, have fun, and for the rest of you.. Make sure to vote!

"A'right gentleman." Spoke up Cowell (finally) "We're at the end and I have a few words for both of you. It's been a long road for both of you, you've both worked very hard to get here, you've faced stiff contest but survived and made it here... now it's just the two of you..." He paused, dramatically.

"I want you both to keep in mind, no matter who wins... I'm still better." Cowell grinned. "Good luck."

Shore at Grey Havens
(sharked from 'Dam at otter creek' by "Live")

Sam, returning with Merry and Pippin

When nought is left to do but
think of all we've known
here is where loss breathes
the sorrow of returning home

So we came to the Havens
at the rim of the Gulf of Lune
where the shore was kissed by water
deep enough to sail a ship

Two Bagginses we brought there
flanked by loyalty and love
deep enough to sail a ship
deep enough to sail a ship
They're with us no more

We took them there we three
on horseback among the trees
for we've passed through a war
leaving the dead behind
leaving the Ring's curse behind

May they find rest
upon the farther shore
We will miss them always
always looking over the sea.

Rather than going with someone else's I think I'll resubmit my The Pie or the Cider (The Eye of the Tiger by Survivor), in the voices of Merry and Pippin.

Tired and weak, it's been a long day;
I guess we both missed dinner.
Can't walk much more, but we know just the place;
We'd sell our souls for a mug just to drain!

But we're not dumb, it's just down the street;
It's that lovely Green Dragon.
Propped up our feet, now we're gobblin' up meat.
Come inside, you might hear us say:

Try the pie or the cider,
They're on special tonight!
If you want, you can have an appetizer!
You might like their salami, and the mince pie's all right.
And they'd really go well with the pie,
Or the cider.

Never skip, more than one meal;
It's never good to be hungry.
And they make a pretty mean apple tart,
Have a taste, they were made fresh today!

Try the pie or the cider, or the cake or the beer;
Maybe we can suggest an appetizer.
Stay away from the salad, cause it looks a mite queer;
But you just can't go wrong with the pie,
Or the cider.

Throwing up, straight out the chute;
Straight from the gut, in it's glory.
Went the distance, now we can't help but puke,
Hobbits that ate much too much once again!

Still, try the pie or the cider;
It's the thrill of one bite!
Let us please be your catering advisor!
If you want substitutions, they won't put up a fight;
And they'd really go well with the pie,
Or the cider.

The pie or the cider...[repeat out]

A figure walks onto the stage wearing a grey cloak, his hands behind his back.

"Hi, I'm Elempi and this next piece is my favorite, hands down, taken from "Supper's Ready" by Genesis." Enjoy.

The figure pulls from behind his back a staff, raises it high in both hands, and strikes the floor. The lights go out and all is dark. Music begins, and a firelit hall is revealed.

I. Lover's Leap

{Frodo to Bilbo in a tender Peter Gabriel voice}

Walking across the Fire-hall, I hear an Elf sing a quiet song.
Sitting beside you, I look into your eyes.
As the sound of lute and harp fade in the night time,
I swear I see your face change, it doesn't seem quite right.
...And it's hello Bilbo with your Ringwielder eyes so haunted
Hey old Bilbo don't you know our hearts are true.

{Aragorn to Arwenin a lover's tones}

Coming closer with our dooms, a distance falls around our bodies.
Out in the garden, the moon seems very bright,
Six silvery shrouded Elves move across the lawn slowly.
The seventh walks in front with a ring shining on his hand.
...And it's hey babe your supper's waiting for you.
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true.

{Aragorn continues in a voice filled with pain}

I've been so far from here,
Far from your warm arms.
It's good to feel you again,
It's been a long long time. Hasn't it?

II. The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary SaruMan

{Saruman sinisterly}

I know a farmer who looks after the farm.
With water clear, he cares for his harvest.
I know a fireman who looks after the fire...

{Gandalf at the Council of Elrondernestly}

You! Can't you see he's fooled you all!
Yes, he's traitorous, can't you see he's fooled you all.
Dare his peace,
Sign the lease.
He's a wheels and gears scientist,
He's the guaranteed eternal Orthanc man.
Look, look into my mouth he cries,
And all the children lost down many paths,
I bet my life you'll walk inside
Hand in hand,
gland in gland
With a spoonful of miracle,
He's the guaranteed eternal Orthanc man.

{Orcs singing a lullaby in the voices of children, petting and fondling venomous snakes}

We will rock you, rock you little snake,
We will keep you snug and warm.

III. Ikhnaton And Itsacon And Their Band Of Merry Men

{The Bride of Khazad-dúm}

Wearing feelings on our faces while our faces took a rest,
We crossed beneath the mountain to see the children of the West,
But we saw a host of dark skinned orcs
standing still below the ground,
Waiting for battle.

The fight's begun, they've been released.
The Balrog comes in a killing mood .....
doom, doom, doom! Doom, doom, doom!
There's Gandalf on the bridge poised without motion,
and I cannot contain my emotion.
And even though I'm feeling doomed,
Something tells me I'd better get well clear of Moria!

{The Orcs}

Today's a day to celebrate, the foe has met his fate.
The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from our Ringlord.

IV. How Dare I Be So Beautiful?

{The Fellowship Grieving}

Wandering by the Mirror Mere, the battle is over,
We climb down the mountain,
To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life.
An old figure sits still by a pool,
He's been stamped "Hobbit Gollum" by some Ringlord tool.
(He is you)
Sauron's Security took care of this lad.
We watch in reverence, as Narcissus is turned to a flower.
A flower?

{The stage goes dark. A foxtrot begins and the sun rises to reveal the Shire, ruffians pushing hobbits about.}

V. Cotton's Farm

If you go down to Cotton's Farm,
to look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise, everyone lies,
like the fox on the rocks,
and the musical box.
Oh, there's Mum & Dad, and good and bad,
and everyone's happy to be here.

There's Old Man Gaffer dressed in drag,
he used to be a Shire wag, plastic bag, what a drag.
The frog was a prince, the prince was a brick, the brick was an egg,
the egg was a bird.

{a hobbit lass flees from ruffians}

(Fly away you sweet little thing, they're hard on your tail)
Hadn't you heard?
(They're going to change you into a human being!)
Yes, we're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese,
and wonderfully clean in the morning.

We've got everything, we're growing everything,
We've got some in
We've got some out
We've got some wild things floating about
Everyone, we're changing everyone,
you name them all,
We've had them here,
And the real stars are still to appear.

{Everybody stops as a voice rings out like a conductor at a train station}

ALL CHANGE!

{Sharkey appears and speaks his spell of words to the hobbits}

Feel your body melt;
Mum to mud to mad to dad
Dad diddley off this, Dad diddley off this,
You're all full of ball.

Dad to dam to dum to mum
Mum diddley washing, Mum diddley washing,
You're all full of ball.

{Lobelia yells at Sharkey}

Don't tell me your lies! We're living this up to the eyes!

{ruffians mock}

Ooee-ooee-ooee-oowaa

{Ted Sandyman}

Momma I want you now!

{Saruman}

And as you listen to my voice
To look for hidden doors, tidy floors, more applause.
You've been here all the time,
Like it or not, like what you got,
You're under the soil (the soil, the soil),
Yes, deep in the soil (the soil, the soil, the soil, the soil!).
So we'll end with a whistle whistle sounds and end with a bang BANG
and all of us fit in our places.

VI. Apocalypse In 9/8 (Co-Starring the delicious talents of Gabble Ratchet)

{Intense keyboard and drums in 9/8 time, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9, repeated again and again throughout while singer builds to fortississimo}

{Darkness; the red light - - Mordor; Frodo and Sam struggling across the plain of Gorgoroth, Gollum sneaking behind, crater fires all around}

With the guards of Mordor, swarming around,
The Pied Piper takes his children underground.
Dragon coming out of the sea,
Shimmering silver head of wisdom looking at me.
He brings down the fire from the skies,
You can tell he's doing well by the look in human eyes.

{Frodo in Sammath Naur, holding the Ring, about to put it on;
Sam calls to Frodo}

Better not compromise!
It won't be easy!

{Gollum attacks Frodo}

Six six six is no longer alone,

{Gollum bites off Frodo's finger}

He's getting out the marrow in your back bone,

{Gollum dances and falls into the fire}

And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll,
Gonna blow right down inside your soul.

{Mordor quakes; eagles come}

Gandalf with his bright cloak reflects the full moon,
In blood, he's writing the lyrics of a brand new tune.

{Aragorn to Arwen at Minas Tirith}

And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blue,
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true,
I've been so far from here,
Far from your loving arms,
Now I'm back again, and babe it's gonna work out fine.

VII. As Sure As Eggs Is Eggs (Aching Men's Feet)

{the bard sings to the glad crowd gathered}

Can't you feel our souls ignite
Shedding ever changing colours, in the darkness of the fading night,
Like the river joins the ocean, as the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home.
There's an Ainur standing in the sun, and he's crying with a loud voice,
"This is the supper of the King returned",
Elessar,
King of Hope,
Has returned to rule his children here,
To lead them in the new Minas Anor!

{The sun shines upon the Elessar upon the brow of Elessar, crowned; the crowd roars. Arwen is crowned and stands before the host seeming like a new Luthien; the music builds to a crescendo then fades as the light fades, and music and light fade together} .... until ....

Elempi stands alone under a single spotlight, cloaked and hooded.

End.

Alright then, here's my selection from Live.

It's called I Alone (http://www.lyricsondemand.com/soundtracks/m/mysocalledlifelyrics/ialonelyrics.html), and it's regarding Bilbo's little run-in with Gollum in the Misty Mountains, the Riddle Game, & what alone can save him... (Luck, of course)

it might be easier not to be wise
and figure these things by your brains
You're stuck in the Mountain with him
alone by the lake by and by
You cannot see much save his eyes
you're bothered by them he can see
your time is up you get your riddle away
but the greatest of tricksters won't hesitate
to squeeze you there by yourself clinging to fate

I alone can save you
I alone can help you
I alone can save you
will you come to end like this?

it might be easier not to be good
and figure these things tho 'praps you could
you long to be free of this bargain
alone by the lake by and by
to search through these tunnels on your own
and leave him there by himself all alone

but his appetites come back to far
only LUCK can save you now
all these riddles that you've learned
won't do any good to you
you want to go and hide
only LUCK can save you now
all these riddles that you've learned...

yeah, yeah, yeah

To the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody, I give you "Barrowian Rhapsody".

Is this a real myth
is this just make believe
caught in a barrow
no escape from this rpg
Open your mind
just look to the Shire and see!

I'm just Sam Gamgee
I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little shy, a little slow,
Every way the smoke blows,
Doesn't really matter to me, to me

Gaffer, smoked my first pipe
Put old toby in the bowl
Lit the pipe now I can smoke
Gaffer, life has just begun
For now I've earned my place beside the bar
Barkeep, ooo
Please pour me a big drink
I will have drunk nine ales by now tomorrow
Carry me, carry me, my legs won't hold me steady

Ale cup, your time has come
Sends shivers to my head
A great subject for this thread
Good morrow my friends - I've got to go
I must take to bed and have some wild dreams
Gaffer, ooo - (anyway the smoke blows)
I don't want to leave
I sometimes wish the Green Dragon was my home

I see a little silhouetto of a drink
Pour it up, pour it up will you drink another ale cup
Thunderbolt and lightning - very very liking me
Green Dragon, Green Dragon,
Green Dragon, Green Dragon
Green Dragon Fill my cup - O let's have more!

But I'm a poor Gamgee and I've run out of money
He's just a Gamgee from a poor family
Spare him some coin for his troll sized appetite
Easy come easy go - let me have some coin
No fill up! No - we will not give you coin - give him coin
No fill up! We will not give you coin - give him coin
No fill up! We will not give you coin - give him coin
Will not give you coin - give him coin (never)
Never give you coin - give him coin
Never give him coin - ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no -
Oh Gaffer Gamgee, Gaffer Gamgee, Gaffer Gamgee give him coin
Fredegar Bolger has some coppers set aside for me
for me
for me

So you think you're so bold with that look in your eye
So you think you'll not help me and make me stay dry
Oh hobbits - can't do this to me hobbits
I'll have an ale - for I've got some coin, coin in my hand

Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
A good ale always tastes great
Anyone should know
A good ale always tastes great - and goes just right with Old Toby

Every way the smoke blows...

Extention for a few days? :-/

I thought I was busy before but lately...wow.

Valesse
12-04-2006, 12:31 AM
Actually that just struck me a few days ago (when I learned this week ahead is 'dead week' where I am) so as far as this last song is concerned I am fine with there being an extention, however I will spend this time giving props to elempi. ;)

Props! Props! Props!

I can't wait for the voting to start.. very interested to hear who will become the next... Middle Earth Idol!

Shoot for before the tenth, if possible please.

The Only Real Estel
12-05-2006, 12:00 AM
Well, for the last time Estel stands before you as I prepare to perform my final song.

This one will be sung by Bilbo about his adventure up to the meeting with the Trolls & how he already regrets coming on it.

It's called How to Steal a Hoard (How to Save a Life by The Fray)...

Step one he says it's 11 o'clock
You balk, he says get going and stop your talk
He smiles a little bit at you
As you race off into the blue
Time will tell if he was right
As you go left and then turn right
Between the fences and up the lane
As you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost my head
Somewhere along in my befuddledness
And I would have been up with late tea poured
But they thought I knew how to steal a hoard

Don't let them know about the rest
Cause after all they like dwarf best
Try to slip past their defense
As you maintain innocence
Lay down a list of what you cook
Dishes you learned from your cookbook
And pray the trolls don't smear you
And pray the trolls don't smear you!

Where did I go wrong, I lost my head
Somewhere along in my befuddledness
AAnd I would have been up with late tea poured
But they thought I knew how to steal a hoard

As they begin to raise their voice
One lowers his and grants them one last choice
Leave them all and knaw a bone
Or argue till dawn and turn to stone
As they talk of smash & squashing
And argue over boil and roasting
You're afraid you'll never be the same
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost my head
Somewhere along in my befuddledness
And I would have been up with late tea poured
But they thought I knew how to steal a hoard

How to steal a hoard...

*Final bow*

Alright! Thats it! The last preformance of Middle Earth Idol!

Now everyone get to voting. I will be receiving votes until the 10th (because its a good round number, not because I've already staked out that date as "Something".)

I'll say it again, Middle earth... Get voting! *squintsquintysquint*

The results will be out a bit after the 10th, say around the 15th. That is, because the final show has to be something spectacular. ;)
If you'd like to participate then feel free to inform Valesse or any of the judges inclusive of myself.

Okay, just relayin message from dear Cowell.

"I will be able to comment later once my ear's stop ringing and my head stops pounding from that horrible concert that I went to the other night."

All I have to say on behalf of myself is that I am too busy with school stuff to be doing the comments anymore (in case you haven't noticed, I've been on the Down's far less lately). As for Wilwa, I believe she is feeling the same strain as I. So please don't take it personally. Adieux and the best of luck to the remaining contestants.

No, I insist. You must be the winner. You are under 30 whereas I am an old fogey. Surely the votes must be on your side. Simple logic. ;)

Fine, I'm bored of making you wait now, so here we are. The moment all of Middle-Earth has waited for with bated breath...! The results of Middle-Earth Idol, 2006-07 but first, for your entertainment, ladies, gentlemen, gentle-hobbits and gent... uh... rowdy-orcs, I present to you... Frodo with his new hit song, "It's All Over" (Daughtry - It's Not Over)

It was thrown away what could I say,
It all seemed to make sense,
It'd taken away everything,
And I can’t do without,
I try to see the good in life,
But good things in life are hard to find,

Throw it away, Throw it away,
Can we make this something goooood,
Well I'll try to go home right this time around,
It's all over!
I'll try to get back home this time around,
It's all ooooover!

There’s a finger of mine that’s dead and in the ground,
This ring is killing me, but it's not the only one,
It's all ooooover!

Taken all I could take and I cannot wait,
We're wasting too much time,
Being strong, holding on,
Can't let it bring us down,
My quest with you means everything,
So I won’t give up that easily.

Throw it away, Throw it away,
Can we make this something goooood,
Well I'll try to go home right this time around,
It's all over!
I'll try to get back home this time around,
It's all ooooover!

There’s a finger of mine that’s dead and in the ground,
This ring is killing me, but it's not the only one,
It's all ooooover!

(Sam)
We can’t let this end this way,
Throw it out, throw it out,
Don’t get caught up in this hell,
Throw it oooooout!

It's all over!
I'll try to get home this time around,
It's all over!
Cause a finger of mine is dead and in the ground,
This ring is killing me,
But it's not the only one,
It’s all oooover!
It's all ooooooooveeeer!!!
Its all ooooverr, Oh yeah, yeah!
This ring is killing me,
But it's the only one
It’s all oooover....

For our next performance, we give you, one of the greatest bands to have ever graced anywhere.... The Clash performing, One Ring Calling!

One ring calling to the faraway towns,
Now that war is declared-and battle come down,
One ring calling to the Cirith-Ungol,
Come out of the caverns, all you boys and girls,
One ring calling, now dont look at us,
All that phoney Saurmania has bitten the dust,
One ring calling, see we aint got nothing,
'cept for the ring of that Evil thing,

The fourth age is coming, the eye is zooming in,
Engines are running and the wheat is growing thin,
A new clear evil, but I have no fear,
Orthanc is drowning and I... live by the river,

One ring calling to the Mordor zone,
Forget it, Sam, I must go alone,
One ring calling upon the orcs of death,
Quit holding out and draw another breath,
One ring calling and I dont wanna shout,
But when we were talking I saw you nodding out,
One ring calling, see we aint got any evil,
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes,

The fourth age is coming, the eye is zooming in,
Engines are running and the wheat is growing thin,
A new clear evil, but I have no fear,
Orthanc is drowning and I... live by the river,

Now get this,
One ring calling, yeah, I was there, too,
An you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
One ring calling at the top of the phial,
After all this, wont you give me a smile?

One ring calling...

I never felt so much a like...
