Glirdan’s character
NAME: Glirdingo
AGE: 72
RACE: Elf
GENDER: Male
WEAPONS: An oak walking stick, a bow with a quiver full of arrows and a short sword.
APPEARANCE: Very fair skin with long blond hair and deep, grey-blue eyes
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Caring, sensitive, easygoing and pretty much carefree is his personality. His Elven eyesight has always been a great strength and his shot with a bow is uneasily matched. His greatest weakness is his ability to trust which gets him into a lot of trouble.
HISTORY: Was born and raised in Lorien. He found a bottle in the river Nimrodel which first led him on his quest in the Great Golden Hoard adventure.
--------------------------------------------
FIRST POST FOR THE GAME
The Elf sat with his back against the side of the cold, hard wall, re-reading the letter he had received. His long blonde hair fell straight back, glistening in the sunlight that was shining on him from the East. For the sun had just risen and Glirdingo had just arrived in Rohan.
He sighed and looked up from the parchment. The letter was an important one. The Dwarf Thin-Gloomy, (“The one who beat me in a race!”) had been kidnapped and a message was sent (or so he assumed) to the other contestants.
He shook his head and started thinking. “Why did I even come? I don’t even like Dwarves! I just hope that Galadster or Kafkalina show up for this…” For he had gone on an expedition with them shortly after the Great Golden Hoard race to Fangorn. He had seen many interesting things on that expedition. But he vowed to himself never to repeat them. “For people would be frightened if I did,” he thought sadly.
He got up and started pacing back and forth, debating whether or not to enter the Inn. For the letter had said to meet the caretaker inside. But he felt wary. For he did not know the land of Rohan to well for the only time he had ventured forth from his home in Lorien was on the quest for the Great Golden Hoard and his expedition with Galadster and Kafkalina.
He continued pacing back and forth, sometimes stopping and looking at the Inn, sometimes to look East. But most often, he looked North East to where his home lay. He was just about to decide to go in when his eyes looked out and saw a figure approaching. He couldn’t tell who it was for they had their head bowed.
He continued to watch the stranger until he (or she) had come straight up to him. “Good day to you stranger! And who might you be?”

Crystal Heart’s character
NAME: Arianna
AGE: 70
RACE: Elf
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: A typical Elf bow and arrows and a traditional Elf sword.
APPEARANCE: Pale white skin and long near black hair. She has silver-grey eyes.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Arianna is a very odd Elf. She is happy, bouncy, and somehow just completely different then her elven relatives. She loves being outdoors. Strength: Loyalty and skill with her sword. Weakness: Family.
HISTORY: She was born in Lorien. Her father didn't want her getting hurt so he sent her older brother on the quests and kept her at home to become a lady of the house instead.
--------------------------------------------
Crystal Heart’s post
She watched the elf from beneath her hood of soft blue as she approached the in. She smiled. He hadn't changed since the last time she had saw him. Well, she had to take back that thought. He was grown into an elven man now. The last time she saw him he had been just an elven lad, running along the river with her. He had found something that had led him away from Lorien and from her.
She had missed him. He had been her good friend. Since their lives had changed it was so hard not to look at him and remember a simpler time. She had never imagined that she would find him here. Especially not in Rohan.
She was only in Rohan because her father had finally allowed her to go on a quest. She had finally finished and she had wanted to take a break before she headed back. She never dreamed she would have ran into him.
“Good day to you stranger! And who might you be?” She asked him with a bright smile, pulling back her hood to reveal herself. She wondered if he would remember her.

Valesse’s character
NAME: Valesseka
AGE: 20 (365 day calendar)/24 (300 day calendar)
RACE: Human
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS: A "stave" which is actually the remains of a broken pitch fork and a hatchet.
APPEARANCE: Long mousey brown hair with a fair face. Muscular and tall build, but not completely free of "pudge".
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Vain and quick to assumption, perhaps even a bit fickle in her thinking, Valesseka is used to hard work and long hours, but apparently not used to social much casual interaction with different races or social classes from her own.
HISTORY: Hailing from central Arnor, Valesseka found an abandoned bottled beside a building in her hometown which led her to go questing for gold in the Great Golden Hoard.
--------------------------------------------
Valesse’s post
Valesseka glared at the parchement furiously. Convinced, somehow, that it was from a certain nobleman who at their parting she imagined travelling far to the south and east never to be seen again. She wanted desperately to know what the unknown symbols read, so much so that after a day of scowlling at them she gave in and asked for someone to read it to her.
It wasn't from Eomerleo, nor did it mention him specifically, but from the wording she felt there was a real chance of seeing her fellow traveller once again. Wasting no time she collected her things and set out for Rohan. The Arnorian moved quickly southward, somewhat glazing over the world around her, and used the same method she had in racing those months ago.
At the door of the White Horse she paused somewhat expecting to hear that crazed shouting she once heard at the Sea of Rhun. Smirking to herself she shook her head and made her way to the door.

Thinlómien’s character
NAME: Thin-Gloomy. Had previously a different name but has chosen to forget it.
AGE: 84 (Not a young dwarf anymore since he's from a lesser and short-lived house, but not a gaffer yet either.)
RACE: dwarf (from the Iron Hills)
GENDER: male
WEAPONS: used to have a big, broad-blade knife called the Thistle-cleaver and a crossbow with ten bolts, but they were taken away when Thin-Gloomy was captured.
APPEARANCE: Thin-Gloomy is short for a dwarf. (What would be an appropriate height?) He is bandylegged, slightly hunchbacked and skinny. His complexion is papery and pox has left faint marks on his face. His sparse hair and beard are mat black. His small eyes are deep-set and so dark brown they're almost black. Thin-Gloomy is an ugly creature.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Thin-Gloomy is grumpy, grudgy and suspicious of everything. His a cynic and his sense of humour is somehow crooked. He is wary of strangers and embittered of old wrongs. He has a low self-esteem, though it has improved greatly during the Great Golden Hoard race.
Thin-Gloomy is a badly trained craftsman and knows how to work stone, wood and coal.
Thin-Gloomy's crooked back and bowed legs give him some physical limits.
HISTORY: Thin-Gloomy was born in the Iron Hills. He had two brothers, both healthy, strong and comely. His parents let him live, but there was never much love for him in the family. He grew in his brothers' shadow. He was continuously bullied by all the people, both children and adults.
His only friend was an old clerk. Alongside with reading and writing, she taught him the use of crossbow. When she died of old age, Thin-Gloomy saw no reason to stay in the Iron Hills any more and left for his fortune with his weak craftsman training.
Years wandering about north-east Middle-Earth and bad jobs taught him more about craftsmanship than his teachers back home ever. He learned more of human and dwarf nature than he would have wanted to. Wherever he went, he was mostly despised. (He made friends with some beornings, though, curiously enough.)
His life changed totally when he was mysteriously invited to seek the Great Golden Hoard. After escaping from trolls' pot and helping the King of Arthedain, he was - to his own surprise - the first to reach the Hoard.
--------------------------------------------
Thinlómien’s post
When Thin-Gloomy had won the race for the hoard, all the things he had could thought of had been the victory and what to do with the prize. The reality had hit him the next day. How was he to carry the enormous treasure home? And what was 'home' for him? Did he really wish to return to the Iron Hills? Where else could he go?
He had had no idea what to do, so he had started from the smallest of matters. He had begged an audience from King Malvegil of Arthedain. He had told the King he was about to establish a trade caravan carrying coal, and needed a few wagons and able drivers. King Malvegil had agreed after a little while. He had probably wanted to seem generous and, after all, he had owed Thin-Gloomy quite a lot of his knowledge of the Angmarian army.
Thin-Gloomy had made a fatal mistake. Instead of asking the king for guards to protect him he had decided to hire some sellswords from Annúminas after he had got the treasure. He had not expected that the knowledge of the prize and his victory had already been heard by ears whose owners bore little good intention.
The day had been a beautiful one, more beautiful that it had been for weeks. The sun had shone and there had been no clouds. Even Thin-Gloomy couldn't have expected an attack on such a lovely day. I have doubtlessly become softer and lost all my wits, if I ever had any, Thin-Gloomy thought later. He was angry with himself and well, gloomy.
The attackers had hidden in the trees and shot the wagon drivers before their attack was even noticed. Thin-Gloomy had managed to hit one with a bolt from his crossbow, when a shrill female voice had called: "Drop your crossbow right now, or there'll be five arrows through your heart." Thin-Gloomy dropped the bow. It was from old memory. When the bulliers had attacked him, he had always given up to shorten his torment.
"Thomas and Jack, tie the dwarf and see that he's not harmed... yet. Cover his eyes and his mouth too so that he can't scream for help", the same shrill voice had ordered. "Mica, help Samson down and to one of the wagons. We'll take just one wagon. When you've done that, stay here and look after the remaining beasts and wagons. Thomas and Jack will come back to help you to fetch them."
All had been done as the shrill-voiced woman had bidden. She obviously had a firm grip over the four men. A nice little harem she has, Thin-Gloomy thought dryly.
The journey to their destination hadn't been long, but it had been uncomfortable. The only pleasure for Thin-Gloomy had been hearing the wounded man, Samson, wailing with every bump the wagon took before the woman ruined it and told the man to shut up.
In their destination, Thin-Gloomy had been carried at least a few stairs down and locked in a cell.

Brief Outline of the Game:
Everyone starts off at the White Horse Inn in Rohan. Here we meet Thin-Gloomy’s caretaker who then tells us what happened and which direction to travel.
We head North West towards the Gap of Rohan. Here we get ambushed by workers of the kidnapper (who shall be played by myself or anyone who wishes to later on). Here someone will get injured on our side which will detain the group from moving forward. But we also manage to capture one of the bandits to question.
We find a cabin which appears to abandoned but is really owned by (male or female) character. After that, all of us, including the cabin owner, continue on North towards Tharbad - for the cabin owner had informed us that he/she saw a group of people heading in that direction
We fall captive to the group who first ambushed us. We find away out and escape with the bandits hot on our tails.
We arrive in Tharbad and question a few villagers before finding out that the group that kidnapped Thin-Gloomy had indeed passed that way and points us to the other side of the village to a Mansion at the top of the road.
We find Thin-Gloomy and save him after fighting the band (which only consisted of 5 people). The band that was following us enters the mansion. We trick them into the cell and lock them in while one of us runs back down for authorities.
We leave the city the way we came without any more disturbances and arrive back at the White Horse Inn sometime later. He gives us a reward and we all go back to our lives, closer than we were.

Go ahead and put your Elf’s Bio and First Post on this thread.
Please use this guideline for creating your Elf character:
Return of the King – Appendix F: Tolkien’s description for the Quendi (The Speakers) – the name given to the Elves by themselves after they first awoke in Middle-earth.
“They were a race high and beautiful, the older Children of the world, and among them the Eldar were as Kings, who now are gone: the People of the Great Journey, the People of the Stars. They were tall, fair of skin and grey-eyed, though their locks were dark, save in the golden house of Finrod; and their voices had more melodies than any mortal voice that is now heard . . .”

Hello everyone and welcome to the Life of Gold RPG! For those of you who do not know how this was derived, I shall tell you. After the Great Golden Hoard game that Valier had ran, I wanted to take it a step further and turn it into this RPG. Simple as that.
Gald to see old faces in (Cordelia and Crystal) and I'm happy to see those I have never played with before. I am hoping that this will turn out to be a blast.
Pio
If you wouldn't mind. However, I will say that we may deviate from what is written in there. However, we should be following it almost exactly as written.
Valier
As pio has said above, please let me know if you will be playing ASAP.
Crystal
Love the first post. I'll talk to you more in detail about our characters later on.
Once again, thank you everyone for playing and I can't wait to start. Oh! And if you know of anyone who would be interested in playing, pass the word on. As you see, we still need 3 more characters.

Basic Storyline: A message has been sent out to the other contestants and her friends to come help find him. He's a he. :) If I may suggest, those who play the dwarves should probably make them weird/un-proper dwarves in the community, since Thin-Gloomy hardly has had any friends in his life and those few aren't probably the most normal sort of people.
I'll try to write the first post in a few days. (From what should I start? The jail? the kidnapping? Or is it up to me?)
Great to be in, I'm itching to see what will come out of this! :D

PIO: Here's my bio
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NAME: Marieme (Mari)
AGE: 72
RACE: Elf
GENDER: Female
WEAPONS (No magical, super-hero, mithril weapons. Just good solid Middle-earth weapons and armor only that is appropriate to the race of the character and the time period.): Typical Elven sword and cross bow.
APPEARANCE: Long blonde hair and light blue eyes. Elven tall.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: (No half-Elven characters. No mixed-type characters. No super-heroes. No assassins. No one all powerful, martial arts proficient, or having any magical traits. Just regular characters with normal abilities for their races only): Very stubborn. Willing to fight for anything she deems worthy. Strength: loyalty Weakness: Inability to let things go.
HISTORY: Mari is best friends with Arianna. They grew up together, going through nearly everything together. Until Mari's father sent her away from Lorien. He feared that she was getting too use to her nice, quiet life in Lorien. He sent her with several other Elves on a quest that took up the rest of her days until now. Now she has ridden into this Inn looking for a rest before her long journey home.
------------------------------------------------
Cordelia Harrison's post
Marieme had seen a lot of things, but she had never dreamed that she would see a real place to sleep again. Granted, it would hold nothing to her lovely bed back in Lorien. Yet, it was far far better than spending another night sleeping on the ground. She couldn't complain. She had learned to appreciate her home and her family far more now.
She rode the tired horse over the hill and sighed. She had finally found the Inn that she had heared about. She was thankful that she had found it. She had figured that she would never ride over the ridge and find a kind, safe place to sleep. She sighed and led her horse down the ridge.

Okay, I just realised there are a few things about the general plot that I don't know and I should. So, the basic things:
Where was Thin-Gloomy kidnapped?
He was on his way to the treasure, right?
Where is the treasure hidden?
And then, I've thought about this... If the treasure is big, Thin-Gloomy can't carry it all by himself. So has he hired workforce (with what money? a promise of money to come?) or a cart driver or bought a cart for himself? Has he hired any defenders for himself? (If I was going to the wilderness to get a treasure, I'd definitely want to have a couple of sellswords protecting me, but I'm not that sure about Thin-gloomy who is used to wandering alone...) Or is this all up to me?
Glirdan

All of it is up too you Lommy. But I am glad you asked as we (as in me and you) can discuss a place where the treasure is hidden. And get Valier involved to see if she had any specific place in mind.

Character Bio & First Post for the game
NAME: Dárin
AGE: 189
RACE: Dwarf
GENDER: Male
WEAPONS: Well equipped, though he is very old. He wields a large axe, a smaller knife and a roundshield. He has light armour, because of the worries of older age, but has fought some battles and retains some of his strength.
APPEARANCE: A normal size for a dwarf, with a long grey beard. He’s quite old and cannot move well, bowed down more than even a normal dwarf. Because of this his movements are stiff and he can only really shamble, not run.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: He is stubborn, and slow to relieve old ties and prejudices. Dárin is very cynical and grumpy much of the time. He has never ridden a horse, does not easily try new things, and almost never seeks glory or adventure, save in need, though this journey is was a strange decision. He can be a strong ally in what he believes in, but his weakness is his stubbornness.
HISTORY: Dárin used to be a dwarf from the Iron Hills, related to Thin-gloomy. After hearing of the race which his relative won, and then hearing of the way which he was captured, Dárin decided that because he had no children and no reason to stay in the Iron Hills, he would track down his old acquaintance and help him escape. It was a strange decision, a compulsive move that he would nearly never had made under normal circumstances, and he may regret it later on in the journey, but Dárin has become poor, and he thinks he might somehow be able to profit from it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Sixth Wizard's post
In a large open field somewhere in Rohan, a small figure was hurrying through the bright sun. Heavily dressed, he was nevertheless in a state of disrepair, and looked as though he had travelled a long way. This was in fact a dwarf known as Dárin of the Iron Hills. And Dárin the Dwarf was in the state of mind that had carried him through the past few weeks. Grumpy.
"Witch-Kings and Necromancers! Elves and Dragons! Spiders and Skin-changers! Goblins and Trolls! I can't take it any more, no I can't, I am too old, too old. Why oh why did I ever begin this journey? I don't like Thin-gloomy! I should've earned my bread at home, or become a builder, ...or something anyway! And curse this infernal grass!" A stream of mixed curses and profanities were dispatched from Dárin as he plucked a few spines from his clothes.
There were many miles behind him, and many a clue from travellers he had met over the disappearance of his second cousin Thin-Gloomy. The main reason Dárin had left the Iron Hills was because of his poverty, brought on because he was terrible when dealing with gold, and the thought he may profit from helping his relative. And somewhere there were some family ties hidden under his gruff exterior. He actually had quite a loyal heart.
Finally he began to draw near to civilisation. Civilisation, he laughed. People of the farms know nothing of stonework! One thing they're good at though, making ale. He hastened toward the nearest Inn, ignoring their stares, and a snuffling horse. A good drink awaited.

NAME: Éomeléo
AGE: 24.
RACE: Man (Gondorian).
GENDER: Male.
WEAPONS: Sword and crossbow.
APPEARANCE: Tall and proud; wavy, brown hair and clean-shaven (to start with anyway). Wears royal blue clothes including a cloak and feathered-hat. Has a golden ocarina on a chain around his neck.
PERSONALITY/STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Self-important, but good-natured. Sometimes brave, but fairly easily frightened. Good physical strength and decent wits about him; but unable to see the wider picture and also lazy.
HISTORY: Éomeléo abandoned his sheltered life in the Gondorian nobility to participate in the race for the Great Golden Hoard. He had enjoyed a special relationship with another competitor, named Valesseka, but they had parted with several loose ends left very much untied. He led an unstable life since then, unwilling to return openly to Gondor. He relished the chance to get involved in another adventure.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eomer of the Rohirrim's post
Éomeléo sauntered up the path whistling cheerily, some would say obnoxiously, considering the circumstances. He could not possibly comprehend such a viewpoint, though. At the moment he was caught up with the question of why some clouds were pink. He hadn't the faintest idea, but it amused and puzzled him no end. The suffering of others was as locked in a cage. Very prepared was he not to look inside.
He had been staying in Rohan for a few months now. He thought it pleasant, far less stuffy than Gondor. He was only slightly worried that his whereabouts would be revealed. His contacts in Rohan were all well-off and settled. It was unlikely that any of them were going to betray him to his family (especially since his family were notoriously resentful of the Rohirrim). Yes, Rohan was good.
When he got the communiqué detailing the plight of Thin-Gloomy, he was more than happy to help. The lure of a great reward was obviously pressing, but Éomeléo did honestly feel a degree of empathy with the Dwarf. He realised that he would have suffered the same misfortune had he been skillful enough to claim the treasure. Also, he had nothing better to do with his time. His best friend Holaert had gone off for a few weeks on business and so the opportunity for great fun in Rohan was diminished.
There was also the Valesseka issue but Éomeléo couldn't quite clarify that yet.

Placed with character bio post ~*~ Pio
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thinlómien's post

Glirdan, if there's anything that you wish me to change, please tell me. I chose to write both the jolly traveling and the kidnapping in one post so that they would fit the general timeline better. Is that ok with you?

I'm going to chime in here about female Dwarves.
Because this is a Shire RPG, players need to try to approximate what Tolkien has told us about the character types. Female Dwarves were extremely rare and never known to interact with other races.
Glirdan and I discussed that any Dwarves in this quest game would need to be male.
Naria - you can either be a male dwarf. Or if you wish a female role, how about the cabin owner the group meets up with and who joins them:
We find a cabin which appears to abandoned but is really owned by (male or female) character. After that, all of us, including the cabin owner, continue on North towards Tharbad for the cabin owner had informed us that he/she saw a group of people heading in that direction. -- from THIS (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=495213&postcount=14) post.

Naria's Character
Name: Syringa
Age: 38
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Weapons: A hatchet and an 8 inch utility knife
Appearance: She has brown hair that is highlighted with wisps of grey, eyes to match(with the exception of the grey). She wears a deer hide tunic and matching leather pants and wool lined boots that are tied up around her calves.
Personality/Strengths/Weaknesses: She is a proud woman with a weathered, gruff voice and not afraid to speak her mind. She is also kind, gentle and forgiving when need be.
History: She has no family to speak of. Her mother died while giving birth to her and thus named her after the flower she so dearly loved. The meaning of the flower was quite appropriate in her passing: Remember me. Syringa does have an older brother(Nyler), but since his mother's passing Syringa has not heard or seen of him since. Her father died in a raid five years later. She was taken in by some local farmers and grew up in a harsh environment; something of the likes that no little girl should have to endour. When she was old enough, Syringa stole a horse from them and rode until she and her horse could no longer. She came upon a cabin pretty much in the middle of no where and since it looked liked it had been vacant for sometime. She decided to call it home.

I've filled the save. If anything needs correcting, just tell me, Glirdy.
Then, on time... Would it be okay if I made three Thin-Gloomy posts while he's in prison? I'd rather write a few long ones than several short ones, especially some of them take place in a time earlier than your characters'.

So to start off I'd like to give some "rewards." :D
*showers cookies and trophies* You all get trophies and cookies for being an awesome group and for digging deep into this RPG right from the get go. *applauds* I am seriously impressed with all of you. Keep up the great work! :D

Mmmm... Cookies. What about mango cheesecake?
Yeah, when do I stop being a Wight and become a whatever? 500 hundred posts and you'll be a Ghost Prince of Cardolan... A way to go! :p :)
-----
Anyway, how long (RL time) will it take that you will rescue poor Thin-Gloomy? (I'm wondering when should I write my few posts, I'm already planning them so I can make a logical storyline...)
Furthermore, if anyone has any special hopes about the bandits (eg. if you're planning a weird way to defeat them and you have a weird weakness for them it would be good if it has been mentioned before) just post it here and I can write it in my next post.
I hope you like my bandits this far... :D
EDIT: I just saw your last post, Glirdy. I think I should write a post about Thin-Gloomy giving the descriptions (if not otherwise, just for fun) and trying to get information about the requests sent to the other characters in this RPG. But if I write such post, should we ask pio to place it before your post (#38) or is it better if it comes after it and kind of explains it?
Glirdan
11-22-2006, 06:24 AM
I think that it comig after or before wouldn't make a huge difference. I think we'll go for after, however, because of the conversation that just took place. I find it'll fit.
As for how long it will take to get to rescue you, I have no idea. It really depends on how much time we spend at each place.

Sorry Silfer, you can't drop into a game that has already started. We have all our places filled now. Try going to the Golden Perch and post in there a few times before joining any game. And as far as I know, there are no new games starting up anytime yet. But watch out in the Shire to see if a new one gets started. :)

Bringing my character in for the weekend of the 15th would work out alot better Glirdy :) . I am getting surgery done for my sinuses on Dec 7th and will not be in any shape to participate any earlier than the 15th. I am SOOOO sorry for my lack of post. And for Cordelia's. She'll be on in a minute. We both got very very badly sick with the flu and couldn't barely move to get to the computer.
On a lighter note, though this will take two of the players out of the game, Cordelia and myself have a very very good friend that is getting married. We are to be her bridesmaids. We fly out at the beginning of January and will be back at the end of the month. Three weeks total. She doesn't have internet in her home, so we will have to try to go into a cyber cafe in order to try to write. However, they are expensive and we aren't sure if we will be able to afford it very frequently.
Just to update you all. I hope that this doesn't hurt the RPG too much Glirdan.

Well, I was actually thinking of postponing the game off for a bit right now as it is awfully close to Christmas and I myself will be quite busy in January because of Exams and such. So, what say you all to postponing the game after this week for a bit?? Or maybe after New Year's?
Thinlómien
12-19-2006, 05:55 AM
Well, I'm not maybe the one whose word bears the most weight since I don't (have to) post as frequently as you others do. But anyway I will comment on this. :)
I think it'd be nice to have a Christmas + New Year pause, since I'm visitng family/relatives in Eastern Finland and they don't have a net access. As to a pause in January, well, I don't have anything special to do then (I have holiday for the first week) and could and would like to play, but of course if you folk are all busy I understand it would maybe be a wise move to have a pause. (It would maybe be healthy for me to focus less on BD. :D) So, do what seems best.
What do you, Naria, Eomer, Valesse and Sixth, think?
Eomer of the Rohirrim
12-19-2006, 07:23 AM
My only experience of RPGs has been ATM which has been rumbling along for approximately 6 years now, so I'm very happy for it to go along at a slow pace or even to have a break if you want. :)
Thinlómien
12-19-2006, 07:51 AM
Though I warn you, Glirdy, that you should probably come up with a date that ends the pause and when people should start posting again (and you, of course, show example :p). In my opinion, with a clear deadline the risk of the continuing day moving further and further away and finally the RPG becoming inactive and players losing interest is smaller.
And sorry if I'm appearing too bossy though I don't think I have any more - if even less - experience or knowledge in these things that you guys do. :)
Valesse
12-19-2006, 11:46 AM
I like the idea of just keeping it 'rumbling' on slowly, as Eomer put it. I've see a good many role plays in my day (wheezewheezesputter) and once time is taken away from game play it's usually harder to get back on it's metaphorical feet and walking the same... again metaphorically.
Who knows? Maybe by some weird chance there's going to be a day or two this holiday season where we're all posting here like werewolf players... okay, maybe thats optimistic, but it -could- happen!
Naria
12-19-2006, 12:10 PM
Erhm, I'm gettin kinda antsy for you guys to get to my cabin. :D
A pause over the 24th and 25th would be a must, but other than those two days I'm wide open for time. I do think that if the pause is any longer than say three or four days that the rpg might lose it's momentum and we may lose interest. I definitely would not make the pause into the new year Glirdy. Like Lommy said, if you personally don't have the time to write(right now)...then let us know when we can get started again and we can post to keep things moving?
Glirdan
12-20-2006, 06:18 AM
Okay...I have taken all opinions into final consideration and have decided that on the 24th-26th, we shall have a slight pause. I am also quite content with moving slowly if we must, I am just worried about Crystal and Cordelia's characters. So, Crystal and Cordelia, if we must, would you like us to carry your character until your return?
Thinlómien
12-20-2006, 07:23 AM
If we are going to advance slowly, then I don't post until January. I only have one post in mind that is essential for the TG-storyline, and it maybe should be posted just some time before the rescue.
But, it's not sure I will be back in the 'downs until next year. If that's the case, I wish you all a merry christmas!
Crystal Heart

I hope no one's offended, but Arianna's and Glirdingo's romance is soooo teen-ish! :D (But they're cute, in a way...)
Crystal Heart
01-30-2007, 07:13 AM
True it is teenish, but they are young for elves. Being in your 70s is still being in your teens really. So I guess it all works out.
Glirdan
01-30-2007, 01:37 PM
Exactly!! We're still in that young phase without a care in the world! Well, not entirely true, but you know what I mean!
Crystal Heart
01-30-2007, 04:45 PM
I don't exactly know where I read it, but it stated that elves (no matter in what context you are speaking about them) are nearly immortal. They can live forever as long as they don't get too injuried. That is why they can die in battle. Their immorailty can not keep up and therefore they die. So since they can live forever that is why they would be teenagers right now.
Sorry . . . I just haven't had a chance to say ANYTHING intelligent today. So I'm glad you all allowed me to say that.
Everyone we need to start posting. We need to start getting this RPG up to speed!

Cutie teen elves! :D
Seriously though, I too thought they're both pretty young. I think it's stated somewhere (in Morgoth's Ring?), that Elves come of age when they're about 100, or a bit less.
It's all just appropriate (and I was not saying anything different) and it amuses me. Keep up the good job, Glirdy and Crystal! :)

I have heard this thing 'Morgoth's Ring' mentioned once or twice, but I don't know what it is. Could you fill me in Thinlómien?
And also, if 13-19 is a 'teen', supposedly 21-29 is a 'tween' what in the world is seventy? :)
Back to the topic, could Glirdan or Crystal Heart skip us forward a couple of hours (days)? I don't know about you guys, but I think we have expended the creative possibilities of a heavy fog, just my opinion. :D

I have heard this thing 'Morgoth's Ring' mentioned once or twice, but I don't know what it is. Could you fill me in Thinlómien? After making the Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales from J.R.R. Tolkien's notes, Christopher Tolkien also made the Histories of Middle-Earth, total 12 volumes unpublished writings of JRRT. (Mostly different versions of the stories published in the Sil, but also much more, like more explanation to the things behind the LoTR etc. I'm not too sure, I've only read two of them this far! :)) Morgoth's Ring is volume X of HoME. Hope that helped.

Hey everyone!
Let's get posting. We don't want this RPG to disappear due to the lack of posts and activity. So get posting. Don't wait, just do it. I posted us to the next morning and the fog is clear. So please post accordingly.

Thanks Crystal. I was out last night at my friends all night having our Wintereenmas party (for those who aren't gamers, that's the gamers holiday and yes I am aware it TECHNICALLY ended on Wednsday) so I had absolutely no chance of posting. However, as soon as I have a shower and have a cup of coffee or something with cafeine in it, I shall post.
And I would like to say thank you to you all for making this a wonderful RPG. I am having an absolute blast with all of you! So thank you!! Cookies and coffee all around!! :D

I hope no-one minds but I creatively got us into the 'we are ambushed by workers of the kidnapper' bit. I thought one of the ways that our guys could win was if they were alerted beforehand. (by me)
If anyone has a problem with my post I will take it down.
Thinlómien
02-06-2007, 03:18 AM
Sixth, I think it's a good idea to have some action for you guys, but what would the kidnappers do so far away from their hideout? There's only a few of them, I don't think they would have risked sending anyone...?
Except if Glirdy has some kind of joker in his sleeve, that is. :D
Glirdan
02-06-2007, 04:17 PM
Joker in my sleeve!? Where did you get that idea!? ;)
Just give me a second to read the post and I'll make my decision.
EDIT: Okay, we could play along with this. However, I do NOT want it to be the group of bandits working with the kidnappers. How about it is just another group who are on their way to look for the treasure? Any objections? Any idea's?
Crystal Heart
02-06-2007, 10:06 PM
I agree with that thought. Let us not have them be the kidnappers. Just a band of people travelling.

Ok so no-one minds if the post stays up?

02-07-2007, 04:22 AM
My opinion is probably not asked, but I'll post it still. :p I think it's a good idea too, Glirdy.

Crystal just posted before me and she had to run off to class. But she wanted me to tell you all that she will be on later to encourge us not to be snails any longer. :D

03-06-2007, 07:25 AM
WARNING: Please guys don't make your characters superheroes! I've seen it too much in the RPGs. If your characters aren't warriors, they should have problems with dealing even one opponent. If they are warriors, they still shouldn't be able to defeat five foes single-handedly and just get slightly wounded. Killing people is a tough job, unlike in movies! :D (Not that I've tried but anyway... ;))
Cordelia Harrison
03-06-2007, 07:29 AM
I understand. I wrote my post to get things going. I will change it once others post. I just didn't want us to stop since we are finally back on a roll.

Sweet!! Crystal, love it!!
Cordelia, a little too extreme, but it'll do. Just make sure we don't do this again.

I like how we are making the bad guys have a voice, "will this be the end of my short miserable life?" It's much better than the stereotypical we-are-evil-and-we-like-it enemies of the norm.
Good work! :)
<EDIT>
I have just pulled a sickie, and with no wellbeing to do anything I am waiting in my room with my laptop, fingernails in my mouth and rocking back and forth for a post... :D

Sorry I couldn't have gotten that to you sooner Sixth, but I've posted! Aaaall posty-like. Woo!
Hopefully my smarm isn't ruinning the feel of the game for anyone, I just can't get enough of that good down home smarmish..nicity? (Valesseka=easy comedic relief, by the by).
On a side note I love how most everyone reports their posts here the instant they've posted on the rp.. or right before no problem and I just had one of those made-for-t.v. moments waking up the next morning (this morning) with a cold sweat (okay, maybe not that severe) thinking "How will they every know?!" :D
