The game will require at least 20 players, and sign-up will close once at least 20 players have signed up. The background to the game is set out in the game thread (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?p=523241#post523241). The game takes place in the deserted village of Woodgard, where a moot is to take place to decide on what action to take to deal with a terrible evil which had befallen the land. Players should assume the role of delegates from other Woodsmen villages, who have been sent to attend the moot.
There will, of course, also be hidden roles, but the nature of these will not be revealed, other than in the briefings sent at the outset to those who have hidden roles. You may also be given additional information on the hidden roles in the narratives and, if you have a hidden roles, in any reports of the outcome of your Night-time activities.
General rules
The game will start with a Day phase.
There will be no multiple lynchings. In the event of a tie, the person who first received the highest number of votes will be lynched.
Votes are non-retractable.
No one should sign up if they think that they will not be able to post much throughout the game. There will be no modfire, though, so, if they do, it’s up to the players to deal with anyone who is inactive, or largely inactive.
You can make whatever claims in the game thread you want, but under no circumstances should you post anything that would give your claim absolute credibility. You are not allowed to post any PMs or other private conversation between yourself and the game moderator or other players. Infractions of this rule are grounds for immediately disqualification from the game.
Any explanations of absence etc should be posted in the Admin thread. Nothing else should be posted there during the game’s duration. Once you are killed, you should no longer post in this thread or the game thread, communicate with players that are still alive in the game. You're dead. Dead people tell no tales.
Unless your hidden role expressly allows it, you should not communicate privately with any other player, either by PM or otherwise, about the game. Again, infractions of this rule are grounds for immediately disqualification from the game.
Timing
The deadline for Days and Nights will be 11.30pm British Summer Time (BST=GMT+1). Those who have hidden roles which allow Night-time activity must send me details of what they are doing at least one hour before the deadline. I will allow some flexibility here, but anyone who fails to meet this deadline risks not having their chosen Night time activity take place.
Should the game be continuing on 15 June, there will be a short break of 4 days, as I will be away during that time.
And finally …
It’s only a game so don’t give offence. It’s only a game so don’t be offended.

Woo! First post! I am allowed to post now, aren't I? Sorry in advance if not.
Looking forward to this game, Saucepan. And I get to play with mormegil the Mod for the first time. Hoping to be a Gifted or better!

Okay. I was pondering now whether I should join or whether it wouldn't be better to have a short break, because I have really lots of things to do now. Two times I opened the thread to sign up and two times I closed it, because I decided not to. Now, for the third time, I just said "gaah, and so what!", thus, SpM, please sign me in. :) After all, I always managed to get some time for WW, and I surely will now as well. Hooray! :D

Looks good... Only seven players more needed.
I'm probably not able to stay online at the last hours everytime as it will be 1.30 AM here. But we have vacations coming our way as the school ends in the next weekend. And yes, from that on I will be sharing the computer with Lommy once again...
We'll just hope Lommy's little sis doesn't get too frustrated while we play... :D Or maybe we could at last persuade her to join a game! Although that would mean three people sharing the same PC.
Durelin

Oooooo...it has "blood" in the title...I must be in this game... :D

*waits for enough people to sign up* I can get one more, via my vast recruiting skillz. XD

I can get one more, via my vast recruiting skillz. XDI just talked with Lommy on the phone. We try our best/worst to get Lommy's sis to join the game as they will at last have a net-access from their home, probably tomorrow... She's the brightest one of us...

Sauce modding and the whole Nogrod Dynasty playing.. and maybe morm -seriously scary stuff...
Ah that last game gave me the bug again. Sign me up Sauce, if you'll have me. :)

05-28-2007, 03:28 PM
the whole Nogrod Dynasty playing..Maybe it should be called Lommy-dynasty as she was the first one of us here... and she's the most Tolkienish of us anyway. But yeah, it would be fun to have Lommy's sis in the game as well. And scary as well... she's a menace. (Okay, I don't want to pile too much expectations on her but she sure is much shrewder than we two are. :D )
Nice to see you Dury & Kath around as well.

Nogrod Dynasty? Please enlighten me on this, Mith.
Pros: Unknown roles are nice and mysterious, and The Saucepan Mod should both do a good job at keeping things running smoothly and make for excellent death scenes.
Cons: I've died early on a LOT lately... and with Boromir88 in the game with me this time, my chances of surviving past Day Two or so aren't likely to improve much. ;)
Meh. I'm still playing. As for my role, I think it might be time to bring back Ye Olde Knighte from games past.

We try our best/worst to get Lommy's sis to join the game . . . . .
There's some work to do on that field! My try yesterday was quite fruitless and had no results except me managing to study less for the Geography exam... :D
Boromir88
05-29-2007, 05:54 AM
With non-retractable votes...I'm good to go, much less of a chance of having those last second bandwagons of everyone switching their votes :p .
haha, Menel, well last game I was a bit off so maybe you could get rid of me before I get to you. :D

Oh, go on then! It is exam time after all, and Werewolf is perfect for adding interest to those hours not spent revising.

List of players updated.
A minimum of four more players are needed - plus final confirmations from those who are still queries (morm and Aganzir).
If you want, you can state your game role here - remember you are all taking the roles of delegates to the moot from outlying Woodsman villages. Game roles do not, however, need to be stated here, as you can introduce yourself in the game thread once the game starts.
If possible, I would like to start the game tomorrow (Wednesday) night (11.30pm BST), so anyone else who wants to play should sign up ASAP.

This is a tough one. . .I really want to play, but if the game is not started tomorrow then it will mean that the deadline is half an hour before I get off work, which means I cannot be around for the last 5 1/2 hours of the day.
OK sign me up
If the game starts tomorrow there will be no complications for me until tuesday.
Boromir88
05-29-2007, 08:36 AM
Ooh, I shall be the filibuster delegate from Laketown (that's around the area - right? Forgive me my geography is not that good and if not than just give me a new town to 'hail' from. )

Oh, I would really love to participate in this game, but unfortunately I can't. I'm flying out to Georgia (for my sister's graduation) on the 31st and I won't be back until June 9, and by then the game will probably already be close to being over. *sob* :( While I'm excited about seeing my sister, I really hate the idea of missing a game, which only further proves how terribly addicted I am. Perhaps a short break will be good for my health (and my sanity)...though I doubt it...
Anyways, this does look like a great game, and I think it will turn out to be very interesting indeed. I hope you guys have lots of fun, and I wish you all the best of luck. :)

And I feel in a reading mood... Does anyone know some classic WW games?

He was a wolf in the first game I modded and was very scary - Night 2 ie first choice - The Seer dreamt of him, the Ranger protected him and the Mythomaniac wanted to be him! Mr Charisma..then he helped persuade everyone that the Seer was a wolf... it was a very short game.
He also has always known the truth about me, good or bad.
He identified me as a wolf practically before I opened my maw in My fenris wolf game...
However his fearsome reputation means he gets killed early often so I hope he getsa a good run in a game with so many strong players.
then he helped persuade everyone that the Seer was a wolf...
Hrr... I really hope I'm on the same side with a person like that ;)

Only one more player needed and we can start tonight.
Oh, and are you OK to go, morm and Aganzir?

05-30-2007, 07:10 AM
I was really looking forward to this game, but I was just informed of a family vacation that falls right in the middle of game play. I am afraid I must pull out. I'm pretty bummed that I'll have to miss this and I'm sorry for pulling out like this.
The Saucepan Man
05-30-2007, 09:38 AM
That's a shame, Kitanna. You'll be missed.
Bah! Now we still need two more and an imminent start is looking less likely.
Any of the 'old hands' fancy donning their Werewolfin' paws once more? Phantom? Fea? Kuru? lmp? TORE?
And where are Ang, Di and Roa?
Any others? All are welcome to join the bloodbath ... :D
Mithalwen
05-30-2007, 10:06 AM
Ang has his A levels ..... while I have absolute faith in his abilities, I can't help thinking it would be irresponsible to cajole him into playing.
Aganzir
05-30-2007, 10:56 AM
I'll play. If the game starts this early, I'll have time.
I'd like to be a Dwarf delegate, living in a Woodsmen village, if possible.
Mithalwen
05-30-2007, 10:59 AM
Oh and can I be the representative from an anarco-sydicalist commune, taking my turn as a sort of executive officer for that week?
I'll be some very hairy delegate from as far as it gets.
Feanor of the Peredhil

I would like to play, if I may.
I shall most likely be the slightly offbeat delegate who offers controversial suggestions to the moot regardless of lycanthropic tendencies.

Gah, Mith already took the representative from the anarcho-syndicalist village... And I wouldn't like to represent the village of the Nights who say Ni or the followers of the Brave Sir Robin either... :)
So maybe I'm just a moody representative of the Witch-burners village who is ready and willing to form a theory to suit his feelings whatever the facts...
And btw. Saturday is just horror for me so if it's a Day you won't here much from me if anything.
But this looks good! Nice to see you Fea as well! Hopefully we have the last representative soon before anyone has to quit...

I'll play. If the game starts this early, I'll have time.If think that I am away at the same time as you, so if the game is still going at that time, there will be a short break.
I would like to play, if I may.Welcome aboard. Good to see you werewolfing again. :)
I am added right?Gah! How could I have missed you?
OK, that's twenty. Looks like we're ready to roll. I'll leave sign-up open until later today, in case anyone else wants to join. But, provided that no one drops out, the game will start tonight at 11.30pm BST. Hidden roles will be sent out shortly beforehand.
The Saucepan Man
05-31-2007, 06:36 AM
It has occurred to me that, as the game starts with a Day phase, there will be only a small window between the roles being dispatched and Day 1 starting, which give little opportunity for those who can PM each other at Night to do so before the Day starts.
The earliest that I wil be able to send the roles is between 8.30pm and 9.30pm (BST), which is only about 2 to 3 hours before the game starts.
In light of this, are people happy to get stuck in straight away, or would people prefer a Night phase first? It depends on when people are able to get on, really. Any views?
Legate of Amon Lanc
05-31-2007, 06:46 AM
I don't know what opinion the others have, but when you said here that we start with a Day, I thought "oh, that means no before-game discussion, but fine". I think unless e.g. the Wolves want to make some hyper-sophisticated strategy, there is no need for them to PM before Day 1, since they have nothing else to do that Night (like posting kills etc). And Day 1 is just Day 1. I think they can survive one Day without PMing, if your game is built like that - of course some people prefer more PMing each other before start, but you can say that's just how it is in this game, and so the problem is solved. You are the Mod, after all.
The Saucepan Man
05-31-2007, 06:51 AM
Well, my preference is to start as soon as possible, given my difficulties later in the month, so I agree.
But, if anyone won't be able to get on between the roles being sent and the game starting and is particularly keen on having pre-game discussion (in the event of having a hidden role permitting this), I am willing to listen.
Legate of Amon Lanc
05-31-2007, 07:02 AM
Well, of course some people might not even come online before the start, so they wouldn't have time to speak to you even if they wanted... but I wouldn't bother with it, it's just how it is...
Feanor of the Peredhil
05-31-2007, 07:17 AM
As I mentioned before, I'm moving today. So if I get a role that requires any immediate action, please know that's why I'm non-responsive for a bit.

I'll be a delegate from nearby Necropolis.
Legate of Amon Lanc
05-31-2007, 08:38 AM
I'll be a delegate from nearby Necropolis.
In that case I'll be a delegate from nearby Fortress :D You know, from somewhere in Mirkwood...
Hey... now it striked me... I'll be simply a Legate of Amon Lanc!
Isabellkya
05-31-2007, 10:36 AM
At the risk of sounding like a complete moron... I am not extensively familiar with all of Mirkwood.. are we just coming up with names for these villages which we are delegates of? Or are there actually that many villages in the area?
Nogrod
05-31-2007, 11:11 AM
I think the wolves (and what-not) can handle one Day-phase without discussing. They will have all the time after that to discuss their strategies. And as they will be notified of their roles anyhow, which I take for granted, they know to avoid each other during the game or to play more daringly anyhow.
are we just coming up with names for these villages which we are delegates of? Or are there actually that many villages in the area?Even though some of the villages sound possible many of them seem to be more caught from the thin air (or from Monty Python) more to amuse... So do not stress with it but come up with something, either realistic or just fun.
The Saucepan Man
05-31-2007, 11:18 AM
At the risk of sounding like a complete moron... I am not extensively familiar with all of Mirkwood.. are we just coming up with names for these villages which we are delegates of? Or are there actually that many villages in the area?As far as I am aware, there are no villages within the area actually specifically identified within Tolkien's works, so it's pretty much up to you. As you can see, most of the delegates so far identified are not exactly canonical. :D
OK, we'll go with a Day 1 start at 11.30pm BST today. Roles will be sent out shortly before the game starts. Since not everyone will have an opportunity to discover their role before the game starts, there will be no contact permitted between the players who are allowed to communicate by Night until Day 1 has finished and Night 1 has begun.
To save me from excessive PM'ing, if you do not receive a PM telling you that you have a hidden role, you may assume that you do not have one.
Oh and please remember to switch to Invisible Mode (using the Options screen on your User CP).
Happy werewolfing! :D
Edit: 11.30pm BST is just over 5 hours from the time of this post (it's 6.20pm BST as I make this edit)

I'm so sorry about that all. My parents woke me up this morning to inform me that, rather than having a free day until about 7, I was going to be out. I had time to post on the thread and that was it which is why you didn't get an explanation til, well, now.

Sorry folks, but I'm having computer problems. Typing this from my BlackBerry, but it doesn't look like I am going to be able to start the Day tonight.

On second thoughts, I will try to start the Day using this infernal thing as I seem to be able to post with it.
I will see what I can do but it may take a little while and it won't be a fancy narrative.
Nogrod
06-08-2007, 04:41 PM
If you managed to post that much you might have as well posted the situation and we could have continued... I mean it's pretty late here and we need to go to sleep...
With the situation myself and Lommy face this is the most unfortunate as we're going to the countryside within something like 14 hours (and we need to sleep before it)... And in principle open ended deadlines / starting hours are bad as they would require one to be online constantly...
So please, if you can just inform us of the situation we could continue. Otherwise the Day5 will easily become a sham if no one knows when it starts or ends...
In the worst case someone comes and reveals something as happened a few games ago as there was a similar kind of (not the same) confusion around...
EDIT: X'd with Sauce... yes go on... fill in the narration afterwards. With the quality you produce them rest assured we will read them later anyhow - and to get some hints as well...
The Saucepan Man
06-08-2007, 05:33 PM
Yes, sorry about that, but this confounded device is pretty difficult to use for this sort of thing (although I am getting the hang of it), and I didn't even know whether I would be able to post with it before I posted above.
Computer doesn't look good so I will probably have to use this thing while at home for the forseeable future.
Day 5 will finish at 12.15am BST tomorrow. If I can't post straight away then, please stop talking and voting at that time. And if anyone is around near the end when all the votes have been cast, it would be helpful if you could post them as it will be difficult for me to count them up on this thing.
Apologies for the inconvenience, but I'm pretty hacked off myself with my computer at the moment.

The computers... so nice to make all this possible but then again so darn malfunctioning at the hour they're needed!
So the latest from me and Lommy. After a lot of to and fro we're going to make a trip to our summer cottage with Lommy's sis. We will be away something like two days. In gametime that means from the halfway of this Day to the latter part of the nextDay.
So we will be voting toDay somewhat early and if alive / the game is on, also posting & voting toMorrow (but at the later stages of the Day) as we have no internet-access there.

Well, the computer seems to have calmed down overnight and, with a little help from AOL, I am back on-line.
Apologies to one and all for the chaos and the confusion last Night. Had I not had my Blackberry to hand I would have had no way of getting on-line at all, so thank goodness for that at least.
I have added in the lists of the living and the dead to the start of Day 5, but have decided not to change the narrative. Sorry, Aganzir, that your death was not addressed in more detail.
Day 5 will, as explained above, finish 24 hours after it started - at 12.15am BST.

No problem with that, Sauce. It's enough to know that I died. :p
Volo is away, and doesn't have a chance to get online anymore toDay. So he asked me if I could post his vote. Is it ok?

Yes, that will be fine.

We'll be back to a 11.30pm start for Day 6, if that's OK with everyone.
