I have just found out that in my exploration just recently from Moria to the breaking of the Fellowship that balrogs DO have wings, heres a quote directly out of the Fellowship of the Ring chapter The Bridge of Khazad-Dum

You cannot pass [Gandalf] said. The orcs stood still, and a dead silence fell. 'I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to the shadow! You cannot pass'
The balrog made no answer. The fire in it seemed to die, but the darkness grew. It stepped forward slowly onto the bridge, and suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and it's wings spread from wall to wall; but still Gandalf could be seen, glimmering in the gloom; he seemed small, and all together alone: grey and bent, like a wizened tree before the onset onset a storm.

That is on page 322 in my copy of FotR, see people there it is in writing.

And there is a definite proof that these wings are not wings at all, but just shadow that looks like wings. You can read it right in the paragraph before the one you quoted.
The Balrog reached the bridge. Gandalf stood in the middle of the span, leaning on the staff in his left hand, but in his other hand Glamdring gleamed, cold and white. His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings.

That's just for completing it. Sorry to ruin your hopes, but this thread is pointless. Look at the thread "Do Balrogs have wings?" There are pages and pages of arguments, including of course mainly the two we just quoted. Everything was already written :)

But maybe it could be fun. Should we try to re-think the whole problem from the start, here, on a new thread? :D

Well they weren't my hopes and dreams, and yes thank you I must have like skipped that part or something or do not remember reading it or something...hmmmm sorry for making this thread then.

My apologies for deleting my comment, which was previously #3, I didn't realize Legate already replied to it. If we can nitpick on something related to this problem, I am all for it :D.

Oh, why is it that I am not surprised that this happened and this thread was started? I knew that someone would eventually screw up and do this(No offence, I just call 'em as I see 'em). As for the subject at hand, it just goes to show that you should search for what's already on the site before you post a thread(I learned that the hard way once, or was it twice?).
