View Full Version : WW42 - Discussion Thread
Welcome to WW42!
This is an experimental game, but less complicated than WW32 (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=13876).
Roles:
The game has 21 players.
A third (7) of the players will be Werewolves.
A third (7) of the players will be Specials.
A third (7) of the players will be Innocents.
Werewolves:
-Win if the total of living Innocent and Special players is equal or less compared to the Werewolves.
-May PM eachother during the Night.
-May attack a player during the Night (starting from Night2) by sending a PM to the Mod. The player dies if he/she isn't protected on the same Night.
Specials:
Protector (1 or more):
-Wins if there are no Werewolves left alive.
-May protect a player during the Night (starting from Night2) by sending a PM to the Mod. The player survives the Night even if he/she is attacked.
-The same player can't be protected during two Nights in a row. The Protector will be informed if the target can't be protected.
Defender (1 or more):
-Wins if there are no Werewolves left alive.
-May dream of a living player during the Night by sending a PM to the Mod. The Defender will then be informed whether the target is Innocent by a PM from the Mod.
-May dream of a player a second time on any other Night. In this case the Defender will be told what the target's exact role is.
Guardian (1 or more):
-Wins if there are no Werewolves left alive.
-May attack a player during the Night (starting from Night2) by sending a PM to the Mod. The player dies if he/she isn't protected on the same Night.
-The Guardian loses the ability to attack if he/she kills a Werewolf this way.
-May hunt a player by sending a PM to the Mod at any time. If the Guardian dies, the latest target also dies regardless of his/her role, even if he/she is protected.
Counsellor (1 or more):
-Wins if the total of living Innocent and Special players is equal or less compared to the Werewolves.
-May inspect a dead player during the Night by sending a PM to the Mod. The Counsellor will then be informed of the target's exact role by a PM from the Mod.
Innocents:
-Win if there are no Werewolves left alive.
Day/Night system:
WW42 will have a unique Day/Night system, the game will be played in two stages.
Stage1:
[EDIT]: There will be a Day0.0 before even stage1 begins. The Day will otherwise be basic, but nobody will be lynched.
-Only 1 player from each role group (Innocent/Special/Werewolf) has the right to post and vote per Day. The players to participate each Day will be chosen by random*. The votes can be cast only for one of the players participating in the Day.
-This stage will last for Days equal to the ammount of all players divided by 3 (21 players, 7 Days).
-There will be no Nights in this stage.
-The game begins with Day0.0 on January 14th at 8PM GMT.
-All players discuss.
-Day0.0 ends and Day0.1 begins on January 15th at 8PM GMT.
-Olov (Wolf), Lvov (Cousellor) and Volvo (Innocent) may post.
-They have a heated discussion that concludes with Olov voting Lvov; -Lvov and Volvo vote Olov.
-Olov is lynched. His role is not revealed.
-Day0.1 ends on January 16th at 8PM GMT. Day0.2 begins.
-Vool (Wolf), Loov (Defender) and Lolvol (Innocent) may post.
-And so on.
Stage2:
-Starts with Night1 after the last Day0 is played.
-Basicly is like a normal WW with a basic Day/Night cycle.
Other vital rules:
-Players may vote regardless of their role.
-During Stage1 the roles of players will not be revealed after their death.
-During Stage2 the role of the lynched player will be revealed to a living player chosen by random.org.
-Werewolves and the Guardian will be told of their victim's role if the attack is successful.
-The player to cast the decisive vote during a Stage2 Day may PM the Mod and choose to be protected either for the next Night or the next Day.
Day1
-Olov votes Lvov. (Lvov 1)
-Lvov votes Olov. (Lvov 1; Olov 1)
-Volvo votes Olov. (Olov 2; Lvov1)
-Volvo cast the decisive vote so he may PM the Mod. He chooses the next Day.
-Volvo may not be lynched on Day2.
Timewise:
-The game starts on Monday 14th at 8PM GMT, which is 3PM EST.
-Days and Nights last 24 hours.
-The deadline is 8PM GMT. The deadline for nightly activities (Werewolves/Specials) is an hour earlier.
The rest of the rules:
-The roles will be assigned by random.org, I will not reselect the roles in any case I can imagine at the moment.
-*Send me a PM if some date doesn't suit you during Stage1, I'll arrange the players in such a way that everybody can play. Don't post your preferences on any thread! You can't change the Days anymore.
-Wolves will be told who the other wolves are on Night1.
-No double-lynches.
The person lynched will be randomed in stage1.
The first person to reach the tying ammount of votes is lynched in stage2.
-No retractable votes.
-I'll not reveal anything in the narrations. The Werewolves and Specials will be referred to as hes, shes and its in no sensible sequence.
-Players are not allowed to talk about the game while they are alive outside the thread. Dead players may talk to eachother in such a way that no living player will know.
-Votes may not be reasoned by anything that has something to do with RL. And otherwise, please give reasons to your votes!
-Editing the content of your posts is forbidden (unless to mark cross-posting or correct spelling).
-Staying in the Invisible-mode is required for as long as you're alive.
-Players who don't vote for two successive Days will be removed from the game, if no good explanations come up on this thread.
-Bold out your votes and add ++ before the full name of the player:
++Volo
-The game is not an in-character game, but the theme is a gladiator-theme, see further posts for more information.
-Oh, and there will be a single Lover at most.
-I might need a co-mod, so anybody willing to help out a little (even if you're playing in this game), please tell me so.
-I reserve the right to change any of the rules at any time with warning.
Ask if something is unclear!

An interesting scheme! And after a few thoughts I must say it's quite ingenious if you don't give us any hints who belonged to which "stack" in the stage1.
Count me in - unless the phantom's game gets delayed a lot for some reason. But I'm pretty confident these two will not overlap... not from my part anyway...
So make it with a questionmark even if I think there's no problem.
And if I have a problem with it I'd be glad to be your co-mod if needed.

A question:
Will the pre-game Days be a full 24 hours, or will they be just 12 hours? I'm just asking because 24 hours does seem a bit long when only three people are posting.

Sorry, Brinniel, I would have posted, but it just didn't seem right for a first-timer to make the opening statements. Hello everyone.

I guess this is a confirmation post. :)
I'm not sure how well the 12 hours thing would work, though, Brinn, due to timezones. :/
Thank you, Noggie! :)
It'll be 24h/Day because of timezones, I see no reason to hurry stage1 up.

Actually this looks all too interesting for me to skip that one. Unless phantom's game takes too long, which I doubt, you can count on me. Actually I am looking forward more to these first days than to the "real" game after. :)
I mean... wow. :)

This looks to be a lovely game, and in all of its details, looks organized. :D Always a plus.
Though, I am a bit concerned about the guardian's role of attacking. So, they are able to take out a player at random, if they are not protected, but if they happen to be a werewolf the guardian looses this ability?
The question is, how long is the loss of this ability, or does it terminate their role entirely?
Just curious as to whether the guardian would know of this after PM'ing the mod, and going on ahead to attack a werewolf would just be their own random decision, or is this not revealed and an affective method of shortening down the list of players?
Sorry if these are annoying questions, better to be prepared than to pretend.

Hmm...that means a week long of pre-game plus probably at least another week after that...
Perhaps I should back out of this one... :( I probably would be okay if the game starts the first days of January, but after that I might be headed into some trouble. After the 15th, there's a chance I'll be missing at least two Days in row, and I don't think that'd be very nice to the other players.
Though, I'd really hate to miss a last chance to play WW. Why don't you put a question mark by my name, Volo, and I'll wait and see what happens...
Thanks to all for kind words! :D

The Guardian doesn't know the roles of players any better than anybody else. It is an effective role, which have to be used with care - especially as the ammount of Wolves present is unknown to anybody but the Wolves.
As nasty as it is, the Guardian will lose the ability to attack anybody during the Night if he/she is lucky/skilful enough to kill a Wolf before. I think this way the Guardian balances the teams better. Of course, the Guardian doesn't have to attack every Night.
Except for that ability, the Guardian has the basic Hunter's ability.
I hope this answers your question somehow, otherwise I'll try again.
Brinn, sad to hear, I do that the game will begin by January. It might be so that it won't begin for a long long time, sadly, but I hope it's not the case.

Awwww I hope you can play Brinn. I enjoy playing with you....and your mind. ;)
For the record, I won't be able to play before probably the eighth or so. Just so everyone knows that I won't be around until then. After that though, I'm more than happy to start werewolfing! :D
Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone! :)
I'm slowly recovering from a sickness that struck out of nowhere so I'll still need some time to get the theme ready.
It looks like we won't be able to start right in the beginning of January anyway, as we still lack quite many players and the phantom's game has just started. It looks most amusing though - get out your popcorn (or better something that at least tastes good) and enjoy the jokes.

You can take the questionmark away from my name as my part was short-played indeed in the phantom's game...
*Never play around the clock even if you have a chance: sleep well before you play!* :D
I will still reserve myself a right to try a more quieter style in this game. Let's see how it goes this time after this blunder...
Volo: Getting 21 players is quite ambitious but I think you should have 18 easily. You have now 11 (with a few questionmarks) and people will start to drop from the phantom's game soon with one/day and hungry for more playing as they drop out too early...
So don't worry.

Ok I've carefully read through the rules and I have a few questions..
The Defender will then be informed whether the target is Innocent by a PM from the Mod.
1. Will the Defender just be told that their dream target is "not innocent" if they aren't, as you say they will be told if their pick is an Ordo, or how does that work?
2. Does the Guardian have a limited amount of attacks if the don't get a wolf? Or do they just keep killing ordo's and gifted till they eventually find a furry fiend? can they attack every night till they do kill a wolf?
3. what happens if in phase one the three participants of the day, have a deadlock? Like if everyone votes someone different and they can't change their vote?
-Werewolves and the Guardian will be told of their victim's role if the attack is successful.
4. Do you mean if the person attacked isn't being protected, when you say successful? Or do you also mean, if the Guardian kills someone who isn't a wolf do they not learn their role?
-The player to cast the decisive vote during a Stage2 Day may PM the Mod and choose to be protected either for the next Night or the next Day.
5. Huh? what do you mean by decisive vote, I'm not sure I get this...
During Stage2 the role of the lynched player will be revealed to a living player chosen by random.org.
6. So can they share this info if they choose to the next day? So if it was a wolf that died and they are an Ordo, they would want to share this most likely.
7. So noone will really ever know how close we are to the end of the game right? because not everyone will know how many, of what is left ? So the game could end abruptly if the number of one group of players is equal or greater?
Sorry there are so many, but I just want to get everything clear beforehand.

I may have to withdraw myself from the player list. I was busy with family and I messed up the timetable on Phantom's game, so I don't right now feel like I deserve to play this one.
You can take the questionmark away from my name as my part was short-played indeed in the phantom's game...
*Never play around the clock even if you have a chance: sleep well before you play!*
Yes sir! And that's a good piece of advice you have there!
My apologies, Volo, but I don't think I'll be around to play in this one. I will be somewhere without an Internet connection during part of January.
Besides, your rules have given me a headache.:(Oh well, breaks from WW aren't a bad thing, but if you do manage to get the conncetion - don't mind joining. The only rule that really counts in any WW is to survive, only after that come the different roles etc.
well my game was short lived as was Noggie's. I guess I have time for another. I just wasn't satisfyed with that length of playing time. (lets hope I don't get killed off so early in this one....) Put me down to play Volo
Sure thing, lady!
1. Will the Defender just be told that their dream target is "not innocent" if they aren't, as you say they will be told if their pick is an Ordo, or how does that work?
Exactly so.
2. Does the Guardian have a limited amount of attacks if the don't get a wolf? Or do they just keep killing ordo's and gifted till they eventually find a furry fiend? can they attack every night till they do kill a wolf?
The Guardian has 1 attack per Night until he/she kills a Wolf. So he/she may kill Innocents/Gifteds until the Wolves win.
3. what happens if in phase one the three participants of the day, have a deadlock? Like if everyone votes someone different and they can't change their vote?
The first person voted will be lynched.
4. Do you mean if the person attacked isn't being protected, when you say successful? Or do you also mean, if the Guardian kills someone who isn't a wolf do they not learn their role?
If a person is targeted by an attack and isn't protected, the attack is successful and the person dies. This counts also if the Guardian kills one of his/her own and not a Wolf. The Guardian will be told the exact role of the player he/she kills during Night.
5. Huh? what do you mean by decisive vote, I'm not sure I get this...
I copied a vote-tally from one of Mac's posts from Noggie's game. Let's assume that everybody has voted and morm will be lynched.
Kath -> Might
Nerwen -> Lommy
Valier -> morm
Might -> Might (TM 2, Lommy 1, morm 1)
Rikae -> Nerwen (TM 2, Lommy 1, morm 1, Nerwen 1)
Sally -> morm (TM 2, morm 2, Lommy 1, Nerwen 1)
morm -> Valier (TM 2, morm 2, Lommy 1, Nerwen 1, Valier 1)
Fea -> morm (morm 3, TM 2, Lommy 1, Nerwen 1, Valier 1)
Brin -> Nerwen (morm 3, TM 2, Nerwen 2, Lommy 1, Valier 1)
The first "decisive" vote came from Kath as it moved Might into a position in which he would be lynched. He stays in that position until Fea votes for morm. Now Might isn't going to be lynched anymore but morm is, which means that Fea's vote was decisive.
6. So can they share this info if they choose to the next day? So if it was a wolf that died and they are an Ordo, they would want to share this most likely.Of course, anything you know can be revealed (if it has any relevance to the game, that is).
7. So noone will really ever know how close we are to the end of the game right? because not everyone will know how many, of what is left ? So the game could end abruptly if the number of one group of players is equal or greater?Yes, sadly this is the case. It bothers me a bit, but I doubt that the other rules would work if the ammount of Wolves would be revealed at some point.
Good questions, if anything is still unclear don't hesitate to ask.
I may have to withdraw myself from the player list. I was busy with family and I messed up the timetable on Phantom's game, so I don't right now feel like I deserve to play this one.
I don't think messing up anything like that should be a reason why not to play in a future game. Don't be too hard on yourself! Mistakes happen everytime to everyone. In fact a mistake is all the more reason to join the next game, especially in your case. :)
Then it was that the Ar-Pharazôn, King of Kings sent his men East to find famed warriors from all over Middle-earth. For a great competition was to be held at the Golden Temple of Armenelos. Heroes of valour would battle each other and the last one standing would be deemed worthy and granted immortality. The trial of skills would last 15 long days and after a party to honor the winner, also lasting 15 days.
Only the best of the best were invited but even so many fell back in fear of the Númenóreans. The warriors finally chosen to set sail for the Island were of a truly mighty lot, each more fearsome than the preveous and each with a glorious past, all unlike.

I have finally read all the rules properly and really went through them so I can at least post a few *strikes through* several *strikes through* pack lots horde throng swarm legion; okay, that was enough; questions. :D Well, it's not that much, but these are some things I wanted to clear up...
-During Stage2 the role of the lynched player will be revealed to a living player chosen by random.org.
I presume that this will be revealed to the player sometime right after the DL, so that it does not happen that the Counsellor decides to inspect someone and at the same time is randomly chosen to be told the role of the dead player.
And by the way, technically, the Counsellor is something very close to Cobbler, right?
-No double-lynches.
So what happens if there is an equation of votes? The one who got the most the first is lynched? From what you replied to Val, I would presume it is like that, but it's always better to ask for certain.
-Editing the content of your posts is forbidden.
Even to mark cross-posting?
As nasty as it is, the Guardian will lose the ability to attack anybody during the Night if he/she is lucky/skilful enough to kill a Wolf before. I think this way the Guardian balances the teams better. Of course, the Guardian doesn't have to attack every Night.
So, just to make this really straight: the Guardian's ability is one to use really rather very tactically, and simply said, we can say he is a Hunter with the ability to take down one Wolf per the whole game (and eventually, some unlucky innocents before).
And last question, the introduction of our character should be posted here, or PMed to you, or is it sufficent to introduce inside the game itself?
Okay, so that's about all I had in mind right now ;)

Well, since the sign-up list does not appear to be full, I'll play. I'll be a Musk Ox Farmer.
I presume that this will be revealed to the player sometime right after the DL, so that it does not happen that the Counsellor decides to inspect someone and at the same time is randomly chosen to be told the role of the dead player.
And by the way, technically, the Counsellor is something very close to Cobbler, right?
I'll try to send out the roles as soon as possible. The Counsellor is very much like a Cobbler, but with the extra ability.
So what happens if there is an equation of votes? The one who got the most the first is lynched? From what you replied to Val, I would presume it is like that, but it's always better to ask for certain.Yup, that's the case.
Even to mark cross-posting?Oh, but that isn't truly the content of a post. Cross-posting may be marked and smelling corrected.
So, just to make this really straight: the Guardian's ability is one to use really rather very tactically, and simply said, we can say he is a Hunter with the ability to take down one Wolf per the whole game (and eventually, some unlucky innocents before).Well, yes, the role isn't very unlike the Assassin (+ the Hunter). In the best case the Guardian may catch two Wolves: one by attacking (Assassin/Wolf's ability) and one by hunting (Hunter's ability). The only part that makes the Guardian very hard is the fact that the ammount of Wolves is unknown and it may be that a wrong kill is enough to lead to defeat already early on.
And last question, the introduction of our character should be posted here, or PMed to you, or is it sufficent to introduce inside the game itself?
Post it here. I'll post an example - made up because I was bored...

I thought that making a "profile" for your gladiator might be easier than writing an interview. It may be as crazy or un-crazy as you like it to be, or you may not write it at all and have your character stay very mysterious.
Here's the profile for Ugh-Friedrich, an equally famous warrior invited to host the competiotion.
Name: Ugh-Friedrich
Title(s): The Thunder Of The Fist
Equipment (among others):
-Ethreal Postbox of the Badger (sort of sledgehammer)
-Syd Barret's Blue Towel
-Pants of Power (made in the Fires of Doom)
(Significant) heroic deeds:
-Singlehandedly rescued Princess Purplebeard from the Big Bad Werewolf
-(Almost) singlehandedly got maximum points from the passing exam of Tol-In-Gaurhoth University of Dire Arts
Star sign: fish, you know, the half-eaten.
Favourite food: potatoes fried on blood, sweat and tears, and beer.
Favourite drink: diet honey
Favourite sport: football (soccer)
Favourite colour: black, of course!
Wierdest rumor you have heard about yourself: I was once asked if I'm Beren. Another time I was asked if I'm Gothmog... Go figure...
Hobbies: Causing fictionary traffic jams, sports
Tell us something that nobody else knows about you: I have nothing to tell! ;D Haha! Good one, eh?

I've never played a warrior type before, much more of a behind the scenes person m'self, but this should be fun to see how horrible I can make it. :) :p
Heh, maybe I can be an Ent again, though I have this bad feeling I'll end up making someone's crackling firewood.
I'm not really familiar with the various roles though, besides the early basics of guardian, seer, etc.
So, sorry for one more silly and stupid question, these little roles and such are simply character and story wise, and will not in the ultimate make of things transform into/change/characterize roles? I'm just curious, as ever. :)

If I understood correctly, there's no night until after the pre-days? This bothers me a bit. Given the number of relatively new players, it's more than likely that someone who has never been a wolf before will be now. Ok, I know it's not that bad to be a first-timer wolf without a chance to discuss before the game starts, but... It'd just feel fairer. Besides, if this first-timer wolf is lynched on a pre-game day, s/he'll have no chance to try the best sides of wolvery, ie. the night discussions.
Another thing that bothers me is that I know I will feel bad if I have to choose between some innocentish experienced player and an only slightly suspicious newbie on the pre-game day. Lommy told me about this idea (I'm not sure if it was hers or Nog's) that there could be a first day when everybody speaks but no one is lynched, and only after that the pre-game days in groups of three. This would make it fairer- I bet it'll not be nice to be in the first group which has absolutely nothing to discuss.
-The player to cast the decisive vote during a Stage2 Day may PM the Mod and choose to be protected either for the next Night or the next Day.
If you ask me, this complicates the game in vain. But I guess I'm not asked because I'm always the pessimist.
3. what happens if in phase one the three participants of the day, have a deadlock? Like if everyone votes someone different and they can't change their vote?
The first person voted will be lynched.
Aghh... Couldn't it be chosen randomly? It's not fair that someone dies because of eg. timezone if all have been suspected equally.

This would make it fairer- I bet it'll not be nice to be in the first group which has absolutely nothing to discuss. We talked about the subject with Lommy. I just forgot to bring it forwards. So I really think that without a something like "normal" Day1 in the beginning there will be nothing to discuss not only on the first pre-Day but on most pre-Days. In case Volo throws people with a shared past and vocal playing style together they might talk a few pages but I'm afraid that more often than not we will end up with more silence than discussion or actual playing.
There should indeed be votes as well on this common pre-pre-Day even if no one is actually lynched.
An idea to consider would also be that Volo could pick up one player more - so not 15, 18 or 21 but either 16, 19 or 22. Then we could actually lynch someone on this common Day1 and the lynched one would have a role revealed to everyone so we would actually have lots to talk about on the "pre-Game" stages as there would be everything from the first Day (and the wolves at least should have had a Night1 talk so that they could try strategies if they wished and the others could try to see those patterns in the discussions).
That would certainly break the neat balance but the balance is broken anyhow as soon as the pre-game rounds start so I don't think that to be a huge problem anyway - even if in one pre-game round there are not three different groups represented.
Well that's a thought.

Do we have an actual day on when we will star playing?
Second that. I know we have to wait until Phantom's and others' games have ended and the players finally shuffle (almost wrote souffle there, too much en francais this week  ) out, but is there any estimate of when a plausible date might hit the arison?
In case Volo throws people with a shared past and vocal playing style together they might talk a few pages but I'm afraid that more often than not we will end up with more silence than discussion or actual playing.
True there, considering the group of players so far includes a few seasoned, semi-seasoned, 'fenris-seasoned' ;), and others who this may be their second or first time playing. Then again, the first game is always the one where you learn from your mistakes and collect your spoils for further development, but I do agree that the first day is always one that has a permanent overcast of ackward silence. Which can or can't spell chaos for the rest of the game. Unless on the first day people start by taking random votes, even if it makes some of us feel horribly guilty (or guiltless with randomosity). I dunno, that is what I mostly remember about first day voting, is random votes for further development. In this case though, there might be a few more than one 'first day'.
So, a pre-game analysis might do some good, as long as it is kept to an agreeable length.
Nothing too extensive to add confusion later on, because its simply annoying and makes the whole thing a flit, so to speak.
Just my little musings, and wished to check in. A snow storm provided me an extra day from a busy schedule. :)

Phantom's game has ended now and we still lack some players. I guess sending invitations would be the fastest way to get them. :)
More questions.
Do any of the gifteds know each other / are allowed to pm / something?
-Only 1 player from each role group (Innocent/Special/Werewolf) has the right to post and vote per Day.
So there will be eg. a day with a wolf, a cobbler and an ordo?
If I understood correctly, there's no night until after the pre-days? This bothers me a bit. Given the number of relatively new players, it's more than likely that someone who has never been a wolf before will be now. Ok, I know it's not that bad to be a first-timer wolf without a chance to discuss before the game starts, but... It'd just feel fairer. Besides, if this first-timer wolf is lynched on a pre-game day, s/he'll have no chance to try the best sides of wolvery, ie. the night discussions.I think the new players will be in less danger if they know as little as everybody else. The idea was that the Wolves wouldn't be told their partners until Night1. That being the case the only thing they'd have to hide is that they themselves are Wolves. I'm against there being a Night before stage1 ends, but if you players think that it would be fair then I'll give a Night.
Another thing that bothers me is that I know I will feel bad if I have to choose between some innocentish experienced player and an only slightly suspicious newbie on the pre-game day. ...but this here is a good idea. However I'll resrict it to a Day of chatting, and what more, I won't tell the Wolves who the others are.
No, actually I'll think about this:
An idea to consider would also be that Volo could pick up one player more - so not 15, 18 or 21 but either 16, 19 or 22. Then we could actually lynch someone on this common Day1 and the lynched one would have a role revealed to everyone so we would actually have lots to talk about on the "pre-Game" stages as there would be everything from the first Day (and the wolves at least should have had a Night1 talk so that they could try strategies if they wished and the others could try to see those patterns in the discussions).

The first person voted will be lynched.
Aghh... Couldn't it be chosen randomly? It's not fair that someone dies because of eg. timezone if all have been suspected equally.Ok.
Do we have an actual day on when we will star playing?Honestly, I don't know. The phantom's game lasted longer than I thought and I'm against both of somebody playing in two games at the same time and of a new game starting right after the preveous one, but since you are so eager... Just bantering. Seriously, 15 players isn't enough. I'll send PMs now.

So did you decide on a start time for all this Volo or did I miss it? like when and for how long will day0 last and then when and for how long does each day/ and or night in stage 1 last and lastly stage 2. I need to know the time of day we will be playing, so I make sure I'm here.
So I also gather that Day 0 will be just an open day for everyone to chat, with no voting and no lynch, giving whatever three start day1 phase 1, something to talk about?
So are we going to vote or not?
What you write is completely up to you. I seem to remember a game where voting wasn't officially a part of the discussion and didn't have anything to do with the lynch, but people voted anyway...

Since we still lack two players we can't start tomorrow, which was the planned starting time, but it can't be helped. But I'm pretty sure that we'll start quite early next week. :)
The structure of the game (with 18 players):
(Note: A day is 24h. A Day is a phase of the game, when people may discuss in the thread.)
1. day: Day0.0 (Everybody may post in the thread. No lynch. Wolves don't know who the other wolves are.)
2. day: Day0.1 (Three players may post in the thread. Lynch.)
3. day: Day0.2
--
8. day: Night1 (Wolves are told who the other wolves are. Wolves may not attack. Gifteds may act. Stage2 rules count from now on, unless said otherwise.)
9. day: Day1 (Everybody may post in the thread. Lynch.)
10. day: Night2 (Wolves may attack.)
11. day: Day2
--
So I also gather that Day 0 will be just an open day for everyone to chat, with no voting and no lynch, giving whatever three start day1 phase 1, something to talk about?Pretty much. You will know your own roles by then.

Ok, if one more player joins soon, we'll start the game tomorrow, otherwise, we'll have to wait for the following day and hope.
The deadline/start time is 8PM GMT, like Aganzir kindly pointed out. It's 10PM for me and I don't think that I can physically manage a later time, since I couldn't find the motivation to use this weekend for sleeping and neither will I for the next one. Sorry.
Are you going to tell us how many gifteds there are of each sort?
No, I'm not.
I take it that Innocent means ordo here?
Innocent is an ordo and nothing else.
However I have to voice my appreciation of the Day 0.0 - it will be much more interesting and better to play the subsequent Days on Stage 1 then. We learn how you sorted us out after Day 1, I presume, Volo?
I'm not sure of what you mean here, but I suppose you like the way the Days are planned at the moment. Am I correct?
What do you mean by being sorted out?
Sorry for having different parts of rules around the place, I try to keep everything important in the first post.

I'm not sure of what you mean here, but I suppose you like the way the Days are planned at the moment. Am I correct?
What do you mean by being sorted out?
Yes, you are correct. And by sorted out, I mean when we are going to learn when we play and with whom on Stage 1.
And by sorted out, I mean when we are going to learn when we play and with whom on Stage 1.
Ok, that is an important question. I think I'll start already now because otherwise the start will be put even further. Thanks for reminding me!
Ok, I have Days chosen. I'll be sending PMs telling when you are playing on stage1. Please reply me as fast as you can and tell me if the Day is ok or would some other work better.
Do not reveal the Day to anybody! Not here, not in RL, not in the game-thread.
If the starting time of the game moves forward, I'll try to move your Day to the same weekday next week.
Example:
Day0.0 - starts on the 14th (Mon) at 8PM GMT
Day0.1 - starts on the 15th (Tue) at 8PM GMT - Brinniel, THE Ka, Shastanis Althereduin
Day0.2 - starts on the 16th (Wed) at 8PM GMT - satansaloser2005, Aganzir, McCaber
Day0.3 - starts on the 17th (Thu) at 8PM GMT - Nogrod, Legate of Amon Lanc, The Might
Day0.4 - starts on the 18th (Fri) at 8PM GMT - Thinlómien, Valier, Groin Redbeard
Day0.5 - starts on the 19th (Sat) at 8PM GMT - Meneltarmacil, Kath, Gil-Galad
Day0.6 - starts on the 20th (Sun) at 8PM GMT - Roa_Aoife, Naria, [the player we miss]
-->
Day0.0 - starts on the 15th (Tue) at 8PM GMT
Day0.1 - starts on the 16th (Wed) at 8PM GMT - satansaloser2005, Aganzir, McCaber
Day0.2 - starts on the 17th (Thu) at 8PM GMT - Nogrod, Legate of Amon Lanc, The Might

-->
Day0.0 - starts on the 16th (Wed) at 8PM GMT
Day0.1 - starts on the 17th (Thu) at 8PM GMT - Nogrod, Legate of Amon Lanc, The Might
Day0.2 - starts on the 18th (Fri) at 8PM GMT - Thinlómien, Valier, Groin Redbeard

Day0.6 - starts on the 22nd (Tue) at 8PM GMT - Brinniel, THE Ka, Shastanis Althereduin
--> and so on, next step would be that Noggie, Legate and Might move to the 21st and sally, Aganzir and McCaber move to the 23rd.
EDIT: A stupid mistake I made here and otherwhere. 20:00 is 8PM, not 20PM whatever that is.

Roa is back?
But yes, I'm really happy to see you for a long time Roa!
And I must say I'm also pretty happy when I see that Volo's trios seem to be fixed. Roa could convince even my mom that I'm guilty - whatever my role is - and she would do it without hesitation... :D
~*~
I think it would be advisable to require the players to vote on the shared Day 0.0. It kind of makes the talking more concentrated or focused on that Day and also helps us in the trio-Days...
I mean that if required to vote people might try to play a bit more than if it's just a small-talk -hour with nothing but talk. Also with that requirement we could bring up the issue of people's votes on to those trio Days as to why someone voted for someone (we'd have a view of our own about the people on Day 0.0) and if someone didn't vote were s/he trying to play it safe? etc...
If it's just that you may vote or not-vote it waters the thing down as most will prefer not to just to be on the safe side.
So no lynching on Day0.0 but votes yes. That's my suggestion.

Roa is back?
That was exactly my reaction, only I popped my eyes maybe even a little bit more. I think I have not played with her since my first game, nevertheless, she left a strong trace in my memory (and who would not - in my first game; I being a Wolf and she being a Cobbler ;) ) and it's great to see her back.
And I must say I'm also pretty happy when I see that Volo's trios seem to be fixed. Roa could convince even my mom that I'm guilty - whatever my role is - and she would do it without hesitation...
Not that you should be the right one to talk about this *points up* Interesting is the word I would use for the way the trios look, however, I guess we should save this chatter for the game so that we at least have something to start our discussion with :D
I think it would be advisable to require the players to vote on the shared Day 0.0. It kind of makes the talking more concentrated or focused on that Day and also helps us in the trio-Days...
Well personally I don't think voting would be necessary, even with no votes people with low participation may later be accused of low participation (and people who are overly vocal may later be accused of being overly vocal), and they don't need votes for that.

Well personally I don't think voting would be necessary, even with no votes people with low participation may later be accused of low participation (and people who are overly vocal may later be accused of being overly vocal), and they don't need votes for that.If we require voting on Day 0.0 everyone needs to take a stance! Otherwise people may just chatter niceties and the gain of that opening Day is minimal at worst. If everyone needs to vote they need to commit themselves to something from which they can be held responsible in a way afterwards. That's what I'm looking for.
There's little evidence in this game as we all know, as you point out people can be suspected of both talking too much, too little or just calculatedly averagely... Voting record is one of the few things we have - and that's why I'd like the wolves to know each other already on Day 0.0 but even if they don't - one could actually look at whom the others in the triad have chosen with their vote. That's a real and concrete choice. And as that something one could try to form some conclusions, to create discussion from on those trio-Days.

Oh, never mind, I can stand up staying up late, let's just hope my sister does not mind (poor her)... ;)

Gil, plainly and simply: yesterDay it was Day 0.0, when all people posted and you and several others did not show up. Now there is the first of the Stage Days, when only me and two other people are posting, you have probably a PM from Volo when your Stage Day is (just don't tell us! That's supposed to be a secret only you know!).
And you can delete your post in the game thread. That's our Day now. :p
Roa_Aoife

It's a gladiator setting, Gil. Day 0.0 we all discussed and debated. Now the fights begin. Each 24 hour period has three people (a gifted, a wolf, and an ordo) who can post and vote, but only for each other. No one one knows anyone else's role, including the wolves. Your day has been assigned already. There are 7 of these battles for 21 players. At the end of these battles, we have a village of 14 and depending on what happened in the arena, we could have anywhere from 1-7 wolves, 1-7 gifteds, and 1-7 ordos.
Today the match up is between Legate, Menel, and Valier. In less than an hour, that battle will end with a lynch (we won't know the role of the dead) and the next battle begins between three new players who have already been assigned.
Does that help?
THE Ka

that battle will end with a lynch (we won't know the role of the dead) and the next battle begins between three new players who have already been assigned.
Plus the night inbetween. Which, then the wolves will know who each other is, while specials and ordos will not. Same old rules apply, just this time there are only three players a day and the rest of us watch and wait. Plus, hoping we are not killed off during the night.

To clarify, Ka, there's no Night between the individual battles, but there will be a Night phase after the end of the 7th battle. I assume at that point the "host" will be the starting wolf kill, the people who get to dream/hunt/whatever can do so, and the wolves meet and come up with a strategy, and game play will continue as normal.
I just recruited a handsome co-mod. Legate's words are the law from now on!

I was bored today, and had extra time on my hands...
So I decided to spend time with my brother for once, so we watched his favourite television show for a bit.
Forgot the name of it, but I saw a moose-creature that reminded me of Menel's, which led to me laughing and saying, 'The weremoose!!!'
Surprisingly enough, this moose also had a bad temper towards hunters. Hmm.
So here you are Menel, your weremoose:

One of the characters from the show tried to eat its offspring, and then ended up stuck in a rock crevice. Offspring then decided in new found freedom to bring the character an apple, which depending on how you see it, could or could not be a tactic to keep the character there with 'bait' until parent creature arrived. :p
Then another character that had special powers or something, tried to free the hunter character, with little success as the parent creature tried to kill and eat both of them. It just ended up 'scaring off' both the weremoose and little weremoose.
I think the screenwriters could have done more with the weremoose attack, frankly. I expected more entertainment.
It was all very amusing. Though, the offspring was rather adorable for a time.
Though, I've actually eaten moose before and it does taste particularly nice, sort of like ostrich or buffalo, but reindeer is far better.

I don't think I can play WW here at the Barrowdowns any more. I'm in college, I have the theatre, plus I'm in the USA, which automatically puts me at a disadvantage. I apparently don't have the amount of time to play that I thought I did (not that it matters much, because I rarely get past the first day any more, for some reason [why I don't know, it's not as if I'm a threat to anyone {mostly it's lynching, because no matter what I do, I end up being suspicious to someone, and it's actually become quite upsetting}]).

I understand, hope you can play again sometime I have a feeling that werewolf would have been quite different if you had more time, which I can understand since I'm in college m'self (I got lucky this thursday and friday and only had one class to attend).
Anyways, I hope you can play again sometime. Good luck with theatre, that is neat.
I love it, but I never could pull it off, I'm a bit too introverted and I don't think my pathetic experience with stage props in middle school disproves that fact...

Shasta, there are many USA Downers and WWers. And as to the early demises, what can one say :( But partially I think it is simply that you are used to a different style of WWing than we do, and many people indeed are inclined more to lynch a person who posts less and shorter posts... even though in the last game (phantom's) you posted quite a lot and I'd say it was great. And no, don't say we are not going to miss you, for you have your own story behind here and are a part of the WWing history in any case.

I may be back, I may not. I doubt you'd miss me anyway. :P
But....but....but we like you. We really like you. And we'll certainly miss you. If you must retire from WW, then so be it, but that would be quite a shame because even though I'm quite a newbie on here I truly enjoy playing with you. (Sorry you died by the way. Tragic.) And I'm sure others do as well. You're a good player Shasta, even if you might not have a lot of time to thoroughly enjoy the game. Do try to play again sometime, even if it's only the occasional game because....well, because you're awesome. *sigh* Besides, I don't want to be the only American theater student on the board. ;)

Nooo, Shasta! Don't give up and leave! I know exactly how hard balancing college, theater, and WW can be, as I'm doing so myself at this time. Please keep playing. I know how frustrating it can be to get lynched early, as it happens to me often enough that if I make it to the fourth day, I get excited. :P We'll miss you if you quit playing forever! :(

Well, like I told Volo in a very nice PM he sent, I wasn't planning on leaving forever! I just probably won't be joining every game that comes along, depending on my schedule. I'll still be around, just not as much. :)
Sorry guys, you'll have to find someone else to lynch Day 1. :)

G'day people.
I've PMed Volo asking as to whether there is still room for me to play too (he invited me) but it looks to me as though I'm too late. Awaiting a response...

it was all bad timing... i knew my day was saturday but i got dragged out of the house, and by time i got back it was too late... the gods of werewolf really did not want me to play this game... now i feel bad cause i just ruined one of the days, and i have this week off so that meant you would have had me ALL WEEK. sigh...
i might be making the same statement as shasta, RL is really taking all my time, and i really need to get my act together being an 18 yr old, i still need to get into post-secondary, study my current course and much much more. out of all the WW games i remember being in, i only count two good games that i participated in... out of a possible 15...

Well, I suppose everyone knows on which day I play, so I'm not revealing anything by saying this here:
I'm not going to be around for the first hour or two, as I have a class ending at 4 EST and have to walk home. Just ensuring that no one wastes energy wondering where I am!

Hi everyone, just wanted to make it known that I won't be around for a few hours on the first day of the normal part of the game, because of job-related and school-related things.
I believe my time is GMT-8:00, if it is of any help. I probably won't be able to post or read until about seven/eight hours after 1pm my time.
Sorry about this, but I decided not to be mysterious about my silence. :p
Hope the second half kicks off well!

At last, stage2.
At last, Day1.
Remember that the rules are a little different now that stage1 is no more.

Just an announcement:
I'm traveling to Belgium tomorrow for the entire weekend (24-27). While I plan to bring along my laptop, my online time will be extremely limited.
I don't know if I'll be around in the evening, so I think I'll have to vote early tomorrow (something like 10:30 GMT). On Day 2, I may be on very briefly, but once again I'll have to vote towards the beginning of the Day.
I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience it may cause. :(

No problem Brinn. Thanks for letting us know ahead of time so we don't wonder where you've scampered off to. Sounds like fun! Enjoy yourself a little extra for me. :)

Just as a quick heads-up, I'm going to have to vote early toDay, since I will be in class from 10:30 EST until 3:30 EST (half an hour after the Day ends). I'm terribly sorry. It's just how my Tuesdays and Thursdays are, and I'm afraid it's inescapable. :(

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I was leaving because my ride home from campus arrived...

OMG!!!!! I am super sorry for missing the whole day. I went out yesterday a few hours before day start thinking I would only be out a little while....ya right, turned out I was gone all night (not by choice). I got home REALLY late and had to work this morning super early as well. The only thing I could have done was pop in for five minutes and vote, but without having read the thread, I would have been of no help to the village.
Again I am so sorry...
I think I should be banned from ever being a mod again. Really, writing a narration until 1:40 when you should wake at 7:30 next day.
Hmm... I wonder if the narration was affected by me first listening to Vangelis and then to famous classical pieces. At least one learns something new, and that is that this classical stuff not only reminds me about my childhood but is great.
Yay! Good night! :D

I will be away for the first part of the day, due to work. I will however have time after I get home. But I'm afraid I will have to vote early too. Working on Saturday is the pits!:(
