Before I start, let me say I have no interest in football. But......as the menfolk were gathered round the set, I saw, as the camera panned round the pitch, on a forearm, something I could swear was Elvish.
A quick enquiry as to the identity the team player in question, a quick fire-up of Google...the name was Fernando, and it was indeed tattoed in Tengwar.
The man who scored the winning goal, no less.

But inquiring minds wish to know just which lines of Tengwar have been tatted.
I suppose they would be Elvish lines, given the script. Still, it would be pretty funny if the lines were, "Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us." :Merisu:
Any clues?

It's "Fernando" in tengwar (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42463000/jpg/_42463026_torres.jpg) on his left arm.

I definitely sense the possibility of a Tolkien fanfic starring that new Middle-earth hero, Fernando.

Bah, why couldn't Ballack write "Eru, help us" or smth on his arm.
Maybe then we would have won...
I still am kind of sad because of yesterday... :(

I'm having a sense of divided loyalties over this... :)

Tengwar experts on the German Society's forum say that the spelling of "Fernando" in Tengwar is not entirely accurate, according to the rules given by Tolkien. I don't know if Torres is a Tolkien fan or if he's just another of those people who think the letters look cool ("so ask for a translation of your name on a Tolkien forum...").
At any rate, it's a connection between football and Tolkien, which JRRT might have enjoyed - though he preferred rugby, didn't he?
