But of those unhappy ones who were ensnared by Melkor little is known of a certainty. For who of the living has descended into the pits of Utumno, or has explored the darkness of the counsels of Melkor?

~Of the Coming of the Elves and the Captivity of Melkor

Long has this mystery martyred the minds of the wise of Middle-earth. How shall we, they asked, undo the harms and evils done to this world by the hands of Morgoth? How shall we mend what we do not understand in depth? Will we not be able to alleviate the dark curse of hatred that lies upon the Peoples of the Orcs? Shall they not be brought into the light and the love of Ilúvatar again? Shall we not try and heal some of the marring inflicted on Arda, and thus on each of us?

Thus they thought, but their wishes and longings were all in vain, for nobody knew where to look for that accursed land that they called Udűn, or Utumno, in the tongue of the High-Elves, save that it lay in the cold of the far north. But at last their hopes were fulfilled, when one day in the Forth Age of the Sun Macalaure and Rikae, Rangers of the (Far) North, who ventured far in hostile lands, found the remains of the old dark fortress that was once overthrown by the Mighty of the West. News spread to the loremen of the free peoples of Middle-earth, and eagerly they gathered and quickly took the decision to venture to the north, too, and descend into the darkness of Utumno, keen to learn of what they knew little.

And little they knew indeed.

The Cast:

x innocent villagers

Please can I join this game of "dark" proportions.

Formendacil

Any idea when this would start... or is that utterly subject to the speed with which players join up?

Nerwen

Count me in, please. I'll be a treasure-seeker.

Feanor of the Peredhil

I'm in. Minus the question mark.

Oh, and--

I would like to be a visionary whose visions lean toward the abstract...

Kath

I would like to enter myself with a question mark depending on when the game will start. If it begins before August 9th count me out, if after then count me in. I'm away til then so have no guilt over kicking me off the list if it does start before. :)

Nilpaurion Felagund
07-24-2008, 08:17 PM
I'm in!

I shall be an aged tale-seeker. (I roam around collecting tales and legends of Men.)

8pm GMT though, that'll be 4am here. Ah well, back to normal for me. :D

Welcome on board everyone!

Any idea when this would start... or is that utterly subject to the speed with which players join up?There's no fixed date, but I would guess some time late next week. Of course it does largely depend on the signup speed.

If it begins before August 9th count me out, if after then count me in.You're in with a question mark, but I think it's unlikely we will start that late. Well, we'll see.

8pm GMT though, that'll be 4am here.A later deadline is not possible, since both Rikae and me have to be able to write a decent narration at the time (it's 10pm for me). An earlier deadline might be possible, if the majority likes it better, but I have to ask Rikae first.

I'd love to play but I'd better not. Going back to Scotland for the first time in months next week and won't be able to devote the time to the game. I'll be reading though -- voting for people in spirit. :smokin:

Thought I was going to take a break, but a game with cobblers is way too tempting. Sign me up, please!

Your friendly neighborhood co-mod* just popping in with a question.
It seems there are quite a few people who would like the game to start later (here and on the main WW thread). Mac & I also wouldn't mind a little extra time to prepare the game, so I was wondering - how would everyone feel about starting in about two weeks rather than one?

*Actually, I'm the "bad cop" who is going to be doing the modkills Mac is too lenient to do himself. :p

Aganzir (who is with Nogrod, Lommy, and Greenie doing something distinctly Finnish) told me this:

wwing depends on when the game starts for we will all be rather busy until, hmm, the 10th of August.

And I realised belatedly that the defence of my thesis topic will happen on the 12th . . . so a delayed start would be nice. :D

Brinniel
07-25-2008, 09:00 PM
I'm yet another advocate of a delayed start.

I was wanting to join the game, but hesitated since I'll be out of town at a wedding on the weekend of August 7-10. But if you don't start until around the 10th, that'd be awesome.

Shastanis Althreduin
07-26-2008, 12:29 AM
I'd like to be a sorcerer of the sea. :)

Gwathagor
07-26-2008, 10:14 AM
I'd love to play. I'm going to be at the seaside for a few days the week after next, but if my schedule works out, I'm in.

EDIT: I believe that puts me in the delayed start camp.

Nogrod
07-26-2008, 01:50 PM
I think the delayed start would also fit Legate and Rune - if they would wish to play in the first instance - as they will be here as our guests in the middle of a forest up to the 9th of August... :)

But if the game actually begins only around the 10th I could be joining as well...

Macalaure
07-26-2008, 03:25 PM
Alright, let's delay the thing until mid-August. I'm putting everybody who favoured that date into the player list. :)

Volo
07-27-2008, 04:24 AM
Good for me, put me in, but still with a question mark. If I'm not too tired, I'll play. :)

Legate of Amon Lanc
07-27-2008, 04:46 AM
Hmm, while I would certainly like to join, even after I return from Finland I have still holidays and will be away for about a week, so I probably couldn't play even then :( But I will at least watch you when I return - and after that, I'll be back with renewed strength! Beware! ;)

Eönwë
07-27-2008, 05:54 AM
Ok, well when you say mid-August, if its after the 14th I'm in, if not then I'm out.

Macalaure
07-27-2008, 08:34 AM
All those silent watchers are starting to make me nervous. :D

Ok, well when you say mid-August, if its after the 14th I'm in, if not then I'm out. Then you're in. :) We're roughly planning on the 15th or 16th to start.

Kath
07-28-2008, 11:26 AM
Woo! That's perfect for me, although as is probably obvious I have just discovered that I can manage small bouts of internet access. I doubt it would have been enough to carry on a game of werewolf though so I am very pleased with this change of date. :)

For my own delightfully mischievous reasons, I vote late start.

All those silent watchers are starting to make me nervous.

Just wait 'til I get talking and you'll understand real nerves... Then again, we've been wolves together and those last four minutes? Wow.

Much as I'd like to, I really need a break from WW, and the DL doesn't work at all with my work schedule. Sorry all. :(

the phantom
07-29-2008, 09:37 PM
So long as you do not begin before August 13th, I can probably manage to spend a bit of time Werewolfing.

You're playing this game, Fea? What a lovely surprise. ;)

Macalaure
07-30-2008, 02:34 AM
Hmmmm? When did I join this game? *looks puzzled*:confused:

Shastanis Althreduin
07-30-2008, 03:27 AM
Can I change my job description? :D

I'd like to be a loner selkie.

My occupation will be a pointless philosopher

Ai ai ai.

This looks like something I wouldn't want to miss.

But.

I really have other ( = school) things to do.

So if I sign in I might be more silent than usually. :( ;) Please add me to the list :D with a question mark - I still need to think. When exactly are we starting?

Macalaure
08-12-2008, 11:52 AM
Glad to have you on board, even if it's just with a question mark.

We plan on starting end of the week, the 15th or 16th.

Aganzir
08-12-2008, 12:42 PM
I think I also told Nilp I wouldn't have time to play even later...

I would like to, the idea sounds interesting, and with all these players in, but I really don't have enough time to dedicate for wwing now that I must be studying for the matriculation exams in addition to normal schoolwork.

Have fun anyway. :)

Feanor of the Peredhil
08-12-2008, 04:46 PM
Don't suppose we could just sort of put it off until the 20th?

*ducks rotten vegetables thrown my way*

Something completely unexpected and delightful came up which takes precedent over werewolf. So if we can put it off, then yay, I'm all in. If we can't, then have a blast without me.

Macalaure
08-13-2008, 03:17 AM
If I'm counting correctly, then we have 14 players +2 with question marks for this week-end. That's not a number I'd get enthusiastic about, but it would work. Are there any people who couldn't play if we delayed for another half week? Are there any people who would want to join but only could if we delayed more (Legate?)?

Input, please! :)

In any case, we'd like to get some more occupations from you out there!

Legate of Amon Lanc
08-13-2008, 03:24 AM
Are there any people who would want to join but only could if we delayed more (Legate?)?
Quite, quite... I am going to be back on the 23rd. So if you were willing to postpone the start until that (or start the first Night around that time, or do one Day without me, or whatever), I would join without a question. I've had too much of a WW break for the holidays (and the theme looks interesting too). But if not, then I'll just stay with following the game - that's a good thing too :)

Thinlómien
08-13-2008, 03:41 AM
Take the questionmark off. I really want to play, whenever it is. (Who cares about final exams. ;) Isn't ww even good practice for the English exam? :p) Seriously though, I don't promise to be as flood-posty as normally, especially if we're postponing the start of the game (which is perfectly fine with me).

Lalaith
08-13-2008, 11:40 AM
I'd find it hard to play if the game started as late as the 23rd.

Kitanna
08-13-2008, 03:27 PM
I'd find it hard to play if the game started as late as the 23rd.
As would I. I'll be starting school again soon and starting that late would mean I couldn't dedicate enough time to WW.

Formendacil
08-13-2008, 04:20 PM
I too am not going to be able to play if it gets pushed back any farther. Even this weekend is going to be pressing it for me, though I said nothing on the strength of the hope that it would get pushed no farther, and because I really want to play, but if we start any later, I'll have to pull out so as not prompt Mod-firing at a later point.

Unless you promise to make a cobbler, then I can flirt with lynching all I like.:p

For the record, also: since signing up, my summer has started to saturate with activity, so I'm not going to be utterly depressed if you hold the game back and I can't play, so if the numbers warrant it, let it stand that I'm not going to be sad or anything.

Nogrod
08-13-2008, 04:35 PM

If you don't play I shall mope around the entire game. And I don't expect others will handle it much better.

Oh, I don't know about that. Provoking the irritation of a mopey the phantom has its benefits. Plenty of fireworks, certainly.

And with all the cobblers in this game, there should be a good five or so that will not mind if heads roll.:p

Feanor of the Peredhil

What does a good Libra do in such a tricky situation? He tries to find a compromise all can live with. Even if he has to kill for it.

Fea: 20th or later
Legate: 23rd or later
Lalaith: better before 23rd
Kitanna: better before 23rd
Form: not later than 16th

I fear the 23rd doesn't suit many here very well, so I don't think it's a good option. Sorry, Legate.

Fea, Form, would the 18th be a date you could both live with? Fea, you would only miss Day 1, and Form, keep in mind that the village isn't going to be too huge and that on a few nights, two will die.

Really, it's okay for you to play without me.

If you're willing to risk having to modfire me, I'm willing to risk it. That SHOULD be okay, with the smaller game size and risk of high death rate.

It still might help to make me a cobbler, though.:p

Oh, and I've meant to post that my role will be a "snowbird" (in local parlance, anyway, someone who goes south every winter, usually a retiree from a northern clime. Given that this is in a northern clime, let's call me a snowbird stranded in the north unwittingly--a retired farmer of course).:D

08-19-2008, 08:18 AM
Interesting... the 'Downs time seems to be something like 15 minutes off (fifteen minutes late) right now. Still Mac's post declaring Night 1 to begin is .54! So was it six minutes late just yesterday evening (as you Mac tried to make it at the even hour?) and it has changed that much in less than a day?

I mean if it changes that much without a warning just in one day we should probably stick to real time. Although it would be the most clear if the time on the thread by your post would be the official time. It would leave no room to any speculation - one would just have to be careful with it and check her/his BD-clock every once in a while.

Btw. I'm still experimenting this long time dream of mine to play a little less in quantity as it has not been a few times that my RL has gotten crippled the minute I'm in a WW-game. This declaration does not mean I'm going to succeed in it - I have failed a few times in a monumental scale - but I'll try it once more anyway.

Still Mac's post declaring Night 1 to begin is .54!That was when I stated it here in the admin thread. The narration on the game thread (which counts) is .48, and I was a few minutes late there.

It seems to be that 15 minutes then. I'd say we stick to it and play the game in BD-time. So simply every vote that has a stamp .00 is counted.

Wonderful... we can have a competition to see which one of us fails more drastically... :smokin: ;)

I too think that we should trust the BD clock as long as it's not showing a totally absurd time...

Sadly, Kitanna has just informed me that something unexpected has come up for her and she has to drop out of the game. She will be officially removed at the end of the day.

So you're leaving us, Nilp?:( (Nerwen)Nope, you won't get rid of me that easily. :D But I shall be absent during those days . . . I hope you forgive me for disappearing at such a crucial time.

It's only DAY 2.

Actually, it's just DAY 1.

No, I mean on August 23.

Ah. Where will it be DAY 2 on August 23?

Where? What?

. . .

Adam, I think Alice is thinking of timezone-influenced confusion.

Ah.

. . .

So, where are we going?

Hey guys. I just wanted to let you know I'll be around 'tomorrow' if I'm not killed overnight. I was drafting a post as I was reading the thread and went to hit reply exactly one minute after Mac posted the deadline.

But yeah.

I'm here. Alive. See you soon. X's and O's.

I think I'm not giving away too much if I tell you that Kitanna was an ordo from the beginning on. No roles needed to be changed.

Please don't kill me, Oh mighty Big Mac!
Only if you continue addressing me that way. ;) :p

I apologize for having to drop out without even making a Day 1 nonsense post. But best of luck to all of you and when I can return to my computer in a week or so I'll be watching with great interest.

I'm so sorry! I didn't realise we'd actually started. Apologies for my stupidity, I do this on a far too regular basis.

I too, apologise... for not getting back in time to vote. It was not a ploy--or, at least, to make this ambiguous, not originally a ploy. There was a going-away cake for me at work (summer ends this weekend) so I was delayed coming home.

And I think I messed up on deadlines.

Shouldn't happen again.

Sorry for not being able to make it, but we had some family problems that have not yet calmed down. However, I think that I'll be able to make it tomorrow and I have some argumentative points that I want to make about a potential wolf! :)

I won't be around much today because I'll be flying to Chicago. However, I should be able to post tomorrow, near the end of the current Day (Day 2).

I just want to let y'all know that something has come up and I'll not be able to play anymore. Best wishes in catching those wolves! :)

Lalaith
08-22-2008, 11:38 AM
...not that I want to passive-aggressively guilt-trip the wolves or anything like that, oh no... but this was, in all probability, my only chance of playing WW this year....one measly day...thanks a lot guys/gals/whatevers....you do realise I had to go and cheer myself up with a pair of cute 50s polka-dot wedge sandals today?

Well that is some compensation.... I remember I was miffed that I got killed by Mac's pack last year when I was on holiday, night one because they thought it was my turn :( so I can sympathise. Talk to me on MSN and I will convert you to the cult of the Phantom ;).

Thinlómien

We got pretty rushed because I took too much time to write the post because I didn't realise it was so late and because Nog thought I had voted already, so he wasn't being as quick as he could have. I logged in right on the minute when Mac posted "deadline"....

Poor Lalaith... :(

*stealthily unplugs the spotlight that is focused so steadily on phantom* <_<

Also, expect more activity from me, folks. Move-in is complete, the first few days of classes are over, and it's the weekend, so I should be returning full-force. :)

Unfortuantely on the way home last night the engine management light on my car came on. Half the mechanics at my garage are on holiday so noone can take a look til Tuesday (Monday is a Bank Holiday). Therefore after this morning I shall be without the internet until then barring miracles. I am currently in the Library but that is closed on Monday too. Someone means me to have a weekend at home.

This means that I almost certainly will be unable to participate tomorrow. Sorry but it really is beyond my control. I will be able to resume on Tuesday if I am still alive because I will have at least limited Library access.

:(

I am very sorry, all of you. My internet has just died for the past hour. Very strange. Today it's kept on cutting me off every so often. Hopefully toMorrow I won't have the same problem, and I'll be able to participate properly (more than I have so far).

I'm so sorry for missing the deadline. I have no excuse whatsoever I'm afraid, I simply forgot that it was 9pm, I had it as 10pm in my head and thought I had plenty of time.

I see I'm not the only person to apologize profusely... I was helping a friend move, and that turned into a Wii party at a friend's apartment where we tried to best each other's scores on Wii Fit balance challenges, and then etcetera. About fifteen minutes ago I realize the deadline had come and gone...

Nerwen

Lot of apologizing going on all round, I see...

Now that was  ...

Whose votes counted? Mine and Nogrod's didn't, or did they? I only realised it was so late when I saw that my posts time stamp was 00 and then I realised I have less than a minute to vote and well, I didn't make it I think...

Nogrod
08-26-2008, 02:09 PM

But I guess there is no question that I died anyway so no problem...

I also thought I had several minutes time when it suddenly was .00...
