Ahoy! Welcome to th' 62nd edition 'o Werewolf. 'Tis gunna be a wee bit 'o an experimental game. While th' roles gunna remain traditional, th' game itself gunna fight out much differently.
Th' famed Corsair ship Grey Gaurhoth commandeered by Cap'n 'Black Death' Brinn be 'bout to set sail from th' Haven 'o Umbar. But she still needs a crew. Th' followin' positions be available:
-First mate
-Quartermaster (second in command)
-Boatswain (oversees crew)
-Cabin boy
-Carpenter*
-Gunner*
-Pilot
-Powder Monkey (performs most dangerous tasks)*
-Sea Artist (navigator)
-Striker (hunter and gatherer)*
-Surgeon
-Cook
-Cooper
-Musician (specify which instrument)*
*Multiple players can sign up for these positions.
Like I said, th' roles gunna be fairly traditional, though they gunna fall under different names:
-3-4 aggressors (wolves)
-1 spy (seer)
-1 avenger (hunter)
-1 protector (ranger)
-2 co-conspirators (cobblers)
-the rest will be ordinary crewmembers
--
Rules/Guidelines (in English, for your convenience):
-The game will start with a Night phase (there will be no dream on Night 1).
-There will be no hints in the narration, so don’t even bother to look.
-No double lynches. In the case of a tie, the first to reach the most votes will be lynched.
-One retraction allowed per Day.
-Modfire will be awarded to anyone who does not vote for two consecutive Days.
-The protector can protect someone more than once, but not on consecutive Nights. He cannot protect himself.
-If the avenger is lynched or killed, he will take with him his pick regardless of role. The avenger makes a new pick every Day and Night phase. He is required to choose for each phase; if he does not, then his previous choice will be killed in the event of his death.
-While roleplay is not required, I would prefer you to do it for at least part of Day 1. You don’t have to be fluent in pirate speech to talk like a pirate, just stick your writing in a translator (that’s what I’m doing); there's several available online. (Suggestion: For those on Facebook, try changing your language setting to English (Pirate). It's good practice. ;) ). You may roleplay and use pirate speech as much as you like, at the risk of irritating your fellow players.
Here’s the twist:
When each player is killed or lynched, his physical form passes on, but the ghost will remain. What does this mean? If you die, don’t think that the game is over for you because dead players are allowed to continue posting. As a ghost, you are technically no longer “in” the game, but you are still welcome to share your opinions and persuade the living players one way or another. Since you are dead, you do have limits:
-Ghosts are not allowed to vote.
-If a ghost has a special role, they can no longer put it to any use (for example: the seer cannot dream, aggressors cannot PM with their mates, etc). Of course even upon death, your alignments will remain the same.
-Ghosts do not count in the evil-innocent tally. Ghosts are dead and the tally is for the living.
-Ghosts are not required to post, but they are advised to.
-When a player dies, their role will not be revealed.
-When a player first dies, they become a ghost. But if they were to die again, they would no longer exist. Basically this means that the crew, aggressors, and avenger have the option to kill a player a second time if they choose, for whatever reasons. When a ghost is lynched or killed, they are no longer allowed to post and their role will be revealed.
--
Because this game is experimental, I am working to keep things as balanced as possible. Since the crew does have the advantage to assume that a Night kill is not an aggressor (unless the avenger dies), I decided to add a second conspirator. I also considered removing the role of protector, though I worried that may give too much advantage to the baddies. Anyway, I’m hoping it will work the way it is, but if anyone has a suggestion that could better balance the game, feel free to share and I’ll take it into consideration.
As of now, deadline will be 12am EST (4am GMT). If a lot of people have something against this deadline, I could change it give or take a few hours. But it’ll have to remain at sometime during late evening/night since I have to work during the day. Sorry about that, as I know it's a bit inconvenient for those across the pond.
Sign-ups begin as 'o now. Occupations be first come, first serve. Be sure to pick one before th' game begins, or I'll pick one fer ye. As each player signs up, ye'll be given a scurvy pirate nickname. If ye don't like it, that's just too darned bad (don't blame me, blame th' blasted name generator). But if ye can think 'o a better nickname, try me.
Thar were some scurvy dogs who showed interest in joinin' 'tis game back in th' main WW thread. I'll put them names under th' sign-up list assumin' ye're all fightin', so please let me be knowin' if ye've changed ye mind. I prefer to have a larger game; thar's no limit to how many players may sign up, though I would like at least 16 before I consider startin'. If we be off above 18, I will add a fourth aggressor.

-Legless Sally Dawkins ~ Carpenter

If a regular hunter be one that takes wit' them their pick, no matter their role, then yarr.

Shall 'tis pur-loined vi o 'lin be played as a classical vi o 'lin or as a fiddle? I must be knowin' whether I gunna be slow dancin' or doin' a jig. ;)

You'll be doin' neither, lass, for the wailing screeches o' thon vi -o'lin will invoke all the treachery and grief of the cruel, cruel sea. Stole it from a crippled nobleman on one o' them thar Caribbean islands along wi' 'is coat, 'is jewels, and 'is woman. Jewels got stolen in turn near West Africa; the woman jumped overboard not long after; and all I gots is my haunting music.
Arrr... as to the question o' thon malformity, I suppose the Seer will very well be able to reveal all secrets o' his or her past life.

Ye can start on me legs.

Arrrr, I be another of them music playin' folk, unless I be getting something better to spend me time on. Me legs, they make good drum sticks until Mac or Annu be sewing 'em back on.

Infected? Infected with what?!!!
I don't be knowin'. Scurvy? Malaria? Leprosy? Could be any one 'o them...or perhaps all 'o them. Take ye pick. :p
And I'll be a Powder Monkey, it sounds nice.
Nice? I wouldn't shout that. Powder Monkeys (http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/pirates/capcrew.html#pmonkey) be said to have th' worst ship 'o th' crew 'n not treated much better than slaves. But avast, thar, all th' better fer me when a scallywag actually volunteers fer such an undesirable ship. Harrharr. :D
I guess since I am malformed, it only be proper that...I be th' gunner
Arrr, then should I even dare ask how ye came to be malformed? I woe ye have jolly aim; I don't want no misfired cannons on me ship, ye hear?
Oh question about the roles/ghost thing...If the seer is killed is she/he allowed to come back as a ghost and say "I'm the seer this is what I know?"
Yarr. But 'tis up to th' crew to decide if they believe 'tis self-proclaimed spy.
You'll be doin' neither, lass, for the wailing screeches o' thon vi -o'lin will invoke all the treachery and grief of the cruel, cruel sea.
Then it be a jolly thin' I brought along cotton fer me ears. ;) Pur-loined violin it gunna be.
Then it be a jolly thin' I brought along cotton fer me ears. Pur-loined violin it gunna be.
Sounds to me ye need a carpenter, not a surgeon. We be havin' none yet, but surely thar's some scallywag who can make ye some fine peglegs.
Oops... I overlooked that we already had a surgeon..
Yarrr, indeed we do. One surgeon be quite that all I can take, if even that. 'Cuz ye be knowin' a carpenter or cook can just as easily saw off a pegleg any day, if need be. Cooper ye shall be.
Now if ye hold on a wee longer, I shall update th' crew list shortly.

Aye, wench, the bosun's berth be claimed by Slippery McCabbie Dagger back at post #24.
Ye ha' a choice o' Cabin Boy, Carpenter, Gunner, Powder Monkey or Musician (as long as ye don't play the drums or the purloined violin).
If you'll cast a weather-eye over the crew, you'll see we be needin' a carpenter and a cabin boy the most.

Our crew has gotten large enough that we have need fer a second cook. Jolly thin' we have Short Ruth Mith comin' on aboard our ship. I hear she be known to make a mean salmagundi (http://www.bartholomewroberts.com/Cap%27nRobertsSalmagundi.htm). :smokin:
Thar be still room fer more hands on th' Grey Gaurhoth. We cannot set sail 'til thar be at least one carpenter enlisted (though a pair or more would be even better). After all, carpenter be one 'o th' most important 'o occupations. I cannot let me ship fall into disrepair. I could also still use more strikers. Wee use be a pair 'o cooks if thar be only one scurvy dog doin' th' huntin'.
Thar be spaces left fer more gunners 'n powder monkeys as well, though I prefer to have some hands sign up fer carpenter 'n striker first. We have plenty 'o musicians, so I gunna take no more fer th' time bein', unless someone can impress me wit' a jolly audition.

After each phase, I gunna post a list 'o th' livin' 'n th' ghosted. 'Tis up to ye to refer back to it 'n keep track 'o who's alive 'n not, though I ain't imagine it'd be too difficult. But if ye all disagree 'n be worried 'bout keepin' track, then I can come up wit' somethin' else.

Thought it only right to point this out. I had to edit my more or less last post (the longer one where I listed everyone) to add in formatting and such and I realized that somehow there was nothing under Mac's name, so I put my thoughts in, or back in, or whatever the case was. I wanted to make sure to mention it because I edited the post and wanted to make sure everyone knew that was now there, just to be fair in case you missed it. Just an FYI.

Note that the rules state that you can choose not to vote for two Days or more, but not voting two Days in a row will result in modfire. So the following need to be sure to vote toDay:
Nerwen
Gwathagor
Mirandir
Isabellkya
Mithalwen
I can give exceptions to anyone who has a good reason why they are not able to vote.
Nienna
06-16-2009, 04:54 PM
Mira wanted me to let everyone know that her computer died so she won't be able to post toDay and she doesn't know when her computer will be fixed.
Brinn you have her permission to modfire her.
Brinniel
06-16-2009, 09:43 PM
Okay, I said I'd make a final decision about whether or not to mod-fire Mira immediately at the deadline, but I've already come up with my decision and I'm too tired to wait to post.
Since it sounds like Mira won't be returning soon and she did give permission, I will mod-fire her at the end of the next Night phase if she is not killed first. This will give her another 24 hours to PM me if she still wants/can be in the game.
The same will apply to any other player who fails to vote two Days in a row. The mod-fire rule is set in place for a reason, but I do think it's fair to give the opportunity for a player to give me a good reason why they couldn't vote and make a final plea to stay alive. Also remember, the results of a mod-fire will be the same as any other death.
Note: Sally texted me to say she might not be able to vote before deadline due to a dead internet, just so you know.
Brinniel
06-16-2009, 10:11 PM

Just letting everyone know that the Night's narration is up and I've also added yesterDay's narration. Hopefully it's not too awful; today was another exhausting one, so I'm still very tired and can't exactly think straight. The end of yesterDay was just sort of a blur. But hopefully I should soon be in better shape to narrate as I have the day off tomorrow (yay). Now off to sleep! :)

Ehm, guys remember this is just a game, so don't let things get too heated. The whole purpose of this is to have fun, and getting too worked up will only result in hurt feelings and ruin the game for everyone else. :( So please keep in check what you say and not let it get personal. Any issues or hurt feelings should be resolved through PM. I'm too tired to deal with any unnecessary problems and I just want this to be a good experience for everyone. I'm sure other players will agree.

Seconded. I missed the last 15 minutes or so before DL, but I want to say I certainly meant nothing personal by anything I said, and I'm sorry if that was the appearance.
I will explain my responses in more detail in the main thread when it reopens.

Thanks, Lommy! I decided I'll stick around. :)
Don't worry Inzil, it's not about anything you said.

I fell asleep on Salmon (that's what I call my very comfy couch, so I'm not saying I slept on a bed of fish :p) watching a game, and that's why I missed the last coupe hours of the DL.
Rikae I second Lommy, don't leave. Although I would be a bit of a hypocrit if I didn't say, it's just a game afterall and not all that important, but that doesn't mean we still won't be sad if you left. :)
Gwath, I know how you feel, and truly understand your reaction, if you wouldn't mind, after the game I would like to send you a PM. ;)
Edit: crosse with Rikae...Yay!

I understand how frustrated people can get in WW (so often I am that frustrated person :o) and I think that this perhaps is a particularly frustrating game since there are so many unknowns and the only clues are peoples "attitude" or way of speaking and there is consequently a risk things can seem more personal. Also with the role play it is perhaps harder to phrase things so it criticises the behaviour.
I do remember I gravely offended someone for saying something they did was stupid - I never intended to mean that they were stupid, only the action, IMO, in the context of the game - an important distinction that it is easy to lose. It is just a game but there is still the possibility of sports injuries!

Gee I'm an *** sometimes. Especially when I act first and think later. Sorry everyone. Sorry Rikae!
:o:o:o
Oh looks like I can't say that word. Well, it's still true.

I understand how it is as I've had my own feelings hurt in a game before. It's just important to remember that no one around here intends to offend anyone, but it's easy to rub someone the wrong way without meaning to. One of the disadvantages about forums is that tone can be interpreted entirely different in the written word than what tone perhaps the writer intended to use, which I've noticed has often resulted in hurt feelings.
Continuing on, I'm just letting you know the Day will start a bit late toDay. I didn't return home from work until after nine, which put me a bit behind on narrations. I'm still writing yesterDay's. Depending on how fast I can get this done, I may perhaps start the Day without the narration and add it later since I don't want to start the Day too late.
Also, wilwa has informed me that she's dropping out of the game, so she will be mod-fired at the Day's beginning. Like anyone else, she'll be ghosted and is welcome to return to the game and post later on if she is so able.

Gah, that took a lot longer than planned. Sorry about that. Right around now seems to be a fairly silent period of the Day for most players though, so I'm not sure if it makes a big difference. But please do tell me if you guys think you need me to extend the deadline an extra hour (or more), because I will if necessary.

Hey Gwath, it should be ok, everybody gets a bit p***ed off if they get suspected a lot during their absence for reasons they don't think are plausible. I know that's happened to me several times. :)
Hi guys. I'm sorry for my absence toDay. I had a bit of a turn at cheerleading earlier - my own fault but not fun all the same - and every time I've tried to read through the thread it makes me feel sick again. Don't know if it's the moving screen or just the trying to concentrate! So, yeah, I'm sort of going to just have to miss this Day and come back tomorrow when I've slept this off.
Just thought I'd let you know, sorry it's so late, I had hoped I'd feel better by now!

I suppose you would be cross if I sneaked away to SW19? :Merisu: I'd go tomorrow but Murray is playing and while he is to my mind a rather charmless individual I think it will make it so much harder to get in.... Wednesday would be better ....:D

Absolutely unacceptable!
Don't you know that Werewolf is your most important obligation! Nothing is more important than the game!
*chuckles*
Riiiight. Hehe I hope you enjoy it. :D
Sorry I wasn't around to watch the end of the Day. I, like Miss Mith, have my priorities horribly out of order and decided I needed a nap.

I won't be around very much for toMorrow as I'm going to the countryside for the weekend... I can use my grandmother's computer and net access but I can't hang around online as much as normally. Just for your information...

I've completed Kath's narration, which means I've got one down and three to go. I was going to attempt a second, but I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open; I blame the contacts. It's going slowly, but I promise I will get them done. I may be a procrastinator, but I always finish my projects...I think.

Crap. Sorry for not voting, I got caught up in my own game elsewhere (whose deadline is the same as this game). :(

The Day will start a few hours late since I will be out to celebrate being legal rather than sitting around at home. If need be, I can end the Day an hour or two late, just let me know whether or not you need the extra time.

I'm off to tour Europe so I won't be around to post for the final Day but I sincerely wish you catch the culprit! I'll try to find a net café some time for the post-game discussion for it's sure going to be interesting, but no promises... Enjoy the rest of the game! :)

FYI, two more narrations are up (Day 6 and Night 7). I'm catching up, slowly, but it'll eventually get done.
