Fingon actually killed her by rescuing Maedhros.

Morgoth actually killed her by killing Finwe and stealing the Silmarils which started the whole thing. ;)

Nonsense. Eru killed her by failing to dig Morgoth's groovy jam session.

Nonsense. Eru killed her by failing to dig Morgoth's groovy jam session.

Eru killed her by creating her, you mean. Honestly, what was he thinking? That was so irresponsible. And he could have saved the girl (and all of us) a lot of trouble by putting one less note into the whole Children theme.

"No Lalaith, no problem." (paraphrase of a quote by a well-known Soviet leader)

Sorry, but they call Earendil evening star. Given the fact, it means that Lalaith is akin to Evening star. She is cousin of his father. Simple as that. By that link, Elrond and Elros are also related to her, and so is Elwing and Arwen and even Aragorn. And so is Idril, being wife of her cousin, Turgon, for being her cousin's father in law. By that link, so are Fingon, Aredhel, Eol, Maeglin and Fingolfin. There you have it. Lalaith is related to everyone.

Including Maedhros.:smokin:

Let's go right to the source. The big bang killed her by (indirectly) creating Tolkien, who created Eru, etc...
Let's go find it and crush it. Lalaith must be avenged!

Including Maedhros.:smokin:
Doesn't that mean Maedhros is related to everyone?
Well, he couldn't possibly be an evil, sinister, soulless murdering ginger, than, could he?

No. Fëanor started it by making the Silmarils ;)

But that way, if you turn it around, nearly everyone (or every well-known elf) is related to everyone! I mean the elves :p

Who do we blame for killing Lalaith? Let's blame Feanor that he had sons. Let's blame Finwe and Miriel for giving birth to a child like Feanor. Let's blame Eru for creating such children that would cause so much trouble. Blame Tolkien for making Eru what he is. Blame Tolkien's parents for giving birth to such a son with such an imagination. Blame Adam and Eve for having such descendants. Blame god for creating Adam and Eve. Blame humanity for creating the concept of GOD.

There you go. Happy now? The whole world is guilty of slaying your namesake.

Did I stop at humankind? OK, moving on. Let's blame monkeys for evolving into humans.

Urwen, stop blaming the poor animals for killing Lalaith!

Had Lalaith lived, she might have survived to get married.

Speaking of which, another scenario

Brodda: *to Morwen* Gimme that bundle, woman! And give your beautiful daughter to be wife of my pal Lorgan!

Morwen: You will have neither!

Brodda: Suit yourself.

Morwen: Nienor, hurry, take your sister to Doriath! And don't forget this bundle! It could save you and your siblings!

(eleven years later)

Hurin: *limping* King Thingol, where are my wife and children?

Thingol: Your wife died from whipping. As for your children...they left for Aman a year ago. They wore these cloaks. a young girl was leading them last time my spies saw them.

Hurin: *raises head towards the sky* She's alive? She's alive! Thank the Valar! Eru, you did the right thing!

Thingol: *raises an eyebrow*

Hurin: I'm so happy! I'm gonna kill myself! Here's Nauglamir, as a token of my appreciation! Now, where's Belegaer?

Thingol: East of here...

Hurin: Thanks. I'm in your debt. I have a little water to find now, to kill myself and be with my wife! Goodbye! *skips away*

Mablung: *shakes head* He is high...

Thingol: Must be blood pressure.. let's go back. He'll die soon anyway...

Had Lalaith lived, she might have survived to get married.

No offense, Urwen, by why exactly is that so important? If Tolkien felt it actually was, he would have let her live. Unfortunately, her only role was to show that humans can die of pestilence. That's all.

Warriors could come in handy here. *shouts at heaven* Eru, send us your warriors!

On topic, it says quite specifically in Silmarilion and UT and all other sources that Maedhros caused Morgoth to create plague which killed lots of people- including my namesake

And I want you to know, if nothing else,
I will do this....

*Goes to dark and foreboding place. Meets Melkor.*

Me: Melkor, I want to bargain with you. Provided you don't trick me like you tricked Maeglin and Gorlim.

Melkor: Say on

Me: It mostly concerns Turin, Nienor and Lalaith. Here's what I propose. My life for their lives.

Melkor: Fine. Surrender your life.

Me: Oh, no! You will not trick me! Return them to life and once they reach Aman, only then can you take my life.

Melkor: *grumbles* You're tough one....

*sigh*
Morgoth quite clearly created the plague of his own free will.

I will do this....

No, I'm sorry, my dear, that last bit needs correcting. Allow me:

Melkor: Fine. Surrender your life.

Me: Oh, no! You will not trick me! Return them to life and once they reach Aman, only then can you take my life.

Melkor: *laughs hideously* Fool! Do you not know you are at my mercy (not that I have any)? Death you shall crave from me as a boon!
*laughs even more hideously*
*inflicts unspeakable torments upon Urwen*
*finally gets bored and kills her*

Urwen is powerless to stop him.
THE END

You think so?

Quest: Bringing Hin Hurin back to life

Goal: Same as above

Life purpouse: Same as above above

See? I will do anything to revive them

*goes to Eru*

Me: Pardon me, allfather, but it is said that Namo made a prophecy that Turin would slay Morgoth?

Eru: That's right.

Me: I've been thinking...since Turin will do the deed, what kind of reward will you give him? Revive his family, perhaps? *shifty eyes*

Eru: Well, that does seem like right thing to do...so be it. But only after Dagor Dagorath.

Me: I expected nothing more... *shifty eyes*

Eru: I'm glad

Me: *thinking* Tricking him was easy... Hin Hurin would be revived *shifty eyes*

Well, by usual means.

Whatever you decide to do, Urwen, just don't blame Maedhros. Of course, he knew that his forces aren't trong enough. He knew that there'll be a plague. And he made it so that the plague would kill Lalaith specifically. And obviously he was very happy about it, and gloated over Hurin's family.

Give it a break, OK? Maedhros just had a period of stupidity, not evilness.

Urwen
02-19-2011, 01:00 PM
I never said that he was evil, just that he made a slip which cost her her life.

Galadriel55
02-19-2011, 01:12 PM
It cost the life of many other children as well. But everyone makes slips! Except for Eru. Otherwise, everybody makes mistakes.

Maedhros didn't murder Lalaith on purpose.

We are nuts; all of us. That's the best thing about life - being nuts.
And I don't think anone really cares, it's just that we all do. Even you, BG. Otherwise why would you be so exastperated?;)

Oh, you know Eru's street address, do you? Seriously, why should the rules get bent for you, anymore than the characters?

Besides, the "after the end of the world" business is the sort of thing that might happen anyway... so what's this about "shifty eyes" and "tricking" Eru?

I never said that he was evil, just that he made a slip which cost her her life.
Er... earlier on this thread you were having him put on trial for child-murder.

To ensure it does happen, duh.
