Fantasy artist, Frank Frazetta, passed away yesterday (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/11/arts/artsspecial/11frazetta.html), aged 82.
He did most of his work for "grittier" fantasy: Conan, Kane, Death Dealer, etc, but his work was iconic. He even did a few Tolkien-themed works, including this one of Gollum:
