What are some of the funniest, scariest, or most emotional moments you have come across in Middle-Earth?

Hi Galadriel,
Fingolfin's duel against Morgoth is one of mine.
Of this the elves do not sing, for it makes their hearts too heavy,
Of this the orcs dare not mock.
Therefore prety unique!

I would personally not be able to write anything. To me, too many moments are priceless!
Maybe I could go by chapter :p
1. A Long Expected Party. There's something so fairy-tale like and classic about it that it makes me weep.
2. Lothlorien. I have never read a more beautiful description of nature!
3. Narn-i-Hin Hurin. In my opinion, the best tale in the Silmarillion.
4. Ainulindale and Valaquenta. Great stuff.
I could go on forever, but I'm too lazy right now :p

To me, "sneaking" is priceless.
When Sam accuses Gollum of sneaking about and Smeagol gets all mewly and goes on and on about how "all Smeagol does is try to help" and then Sam asks him what he's been up to and Smeagol says, "Sneaking."
Hilarious.
Fall-out-of-your-chair funny, every time.

The scene that touched me most at the first reading is still one of my favourites:
"The choices of Master Samwise" when Sam believes Frodo dead and nearly despairs and has to make up his mind. I was moved to tears...
But there are many, many scenes I love and I guess that's why I know so many quotations by heart!

There are so many powerful moments in The Sil., LotR, and Narn-i-Hin Hurin that it would take me about an hour to type them all up. Just to give a few out of all of them:
"Oh twice beloved! A Turin Turambar, turun ambartanen!" (Nienor Niniel)
Turin's words to his sword, asking for a quick death
Hurin meeting Morwen at Turin's grave
Fingolfin's death
Finrod Felagund's death
"...and although Morgoth is gone, the seeds of lie that he planted will continue to grow and give crops..."
Frodo at the Ford of Bruinen
Gandalf/Balrog battle on the Bridge of Moria
Most of Lothlorien chapters, especially when it says that neither Fordo nor Aragorn will ever come there again, although they really want to
When Sam fights Shelob
When Frodo claims the Ring in Mt. Doom
When Eowin fights the Nazgul
The two sentences when Merry sees the face of Eowyn/Dernhelm, but thinks that it's just a regular solider, and sees no hope in that face
Gandalf's last words in Me - "I won't say don't cry, for not all tears are for evil"
WOW! That is a lot! And its not even a quarter of what I could list!
PS: I don't have my books on me, so I paraphrased.

Hmm, some of mine are already listed here, such as:
Finrod's death, I cried. Hardcore. Because I love Finrod.
When the hobbits met Gildor Inglorion and his company of elves. I know, it may not have been one of the more remembered parts of the book, but I simply love Gildor!
The Lay of Leithian from the Silmarillion.
Lothlorien; not only for the elves, but the mallorn trees. When I read of them, I just knew they were breath taking and gorgeous. I'm a nature lover too, so :p
Glorfindel searching for Frodo on Asfaloth. It may seem silly, but to a horse person such as myself, a horse as fine as Asfaloth becomes one of your favorite characters. I simply enjoyed picturing a handsome elf galloping away on a beautiful steed in search of a hobbit. :p
When Legolas sang of Nimrodel to the Fellowship.
Like Galadriel55, I too loved Gandalf's last words. My dad thought my mom and I were nuts! XD he saw us crying and we both looked at him and was like, "But Gandalf said it was okay to cry!!"
You can give me ANY scene with Elrond and his sons and I'll be happy ;)
There's waaay more I can assure you.

oh yeah! Waaaaay more!
For me it's almost everything. I only listed the major major ones that I could remember at the time, but my list could go on for pages.
If I was to choose 1 line from The Hobbit, I would've chosen "Never laugh at a live dragon"

It makes you wonder why such warnings were created in the first place...just WHO in the right minds would laugh at a LIVE dragon?!

It's not a warning. Its a lesson Bilbo learns the hard way.
