I loved it in the Silmarillion when Melkor so called greatest power in Arda was beaten by Ungoliant and had to scream so that his Balrogs would help him out.
By the way could Ungoliant nearly beat Melkor because much of Melkors power go into dominating his servants

I liked Fingolfin taking big chuncks out of melkor before he finaly got squished.

From the bits of the Sil. I've read so far, my favourite is the tale of Beren and Luthien.

My favorite part is definitely the story on Earendil.

I like Turin the best. He's an awesome warrior, but story also emphasizes his emotions and head trouble. I like tragic heroes.

To me the best moment was when Feanor denied the Silmarils to the Valar and when he rised up the Noldor to rebellion against them.

There are two parts I like most:
- Beren and Luthien, but not because of them, but because of Huan.
- of Tuor, and the arising of Ulmo.

i would have to say that of Maeglin was really well written. So voluntarily i would have to pic that as my fave part.

I thought that the Battle of Unnumbered Tears was great. Also in HOME2 Tolkien gave a great description of the fall of Gondolin.

Sorry to revive an old topic but i think its a great subject. I love the idea of the Decent of Earendel (so much so that i wrote a short story on it here) (http://www.barrowdowns.com/fanfiction/jostins-warwrath01.asp?SeriesID=53&SeriesPart=1) I like it, but tell me what you think. There are two different things that can be admired in the Sil, the first being good descriptions, like the story of Beren and Lúthien, and some good ideas that were never fully told, like the war of wrath.

Fingolfin's last stand. Morgoth, come forth! Yeeeeeeeks, that takes guts.

Maeglin's story made me feel really bad for Maeglin. Somebody else wrote a thread about pity for bad guys, I don't even feel that Maeglin was a genuine bad guy.

Turgon coming out at long last with a huge army from Gondolin! ("Oh glory and trumpets!")

And yes, the battle of Unnumbered Tears.

Hurin's chaining, release, and conversation with his long-lost Morwen just before she dies.

Galorme i must congratulate you on an impressive retelling of an all ready classic part of the Silmarillion. In my opinion you really captured the style of writing that tolkien used throughout the silm.

Galorme, nice job on the Earendil story. You mean "descent" as in coming down, right? But you told the story really well. Nice flow, nice style, nice heroic sort of rhythm. Good work.

I just loved it. Specially the music of the Ainur, the creation of the dwarves, the Sun and the Moon and of course Turin´s adventures!

Yes, that is why Ungoliant is stronger then Meklor. My favorite part is when Fingolfin takes on Morgoth.
