I was looking at getting a nice edition of The Hobbit. The green leather US edition by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (http://www.hmhbooks.com/hmh/site/hmhbooks/bookdetails?isbn=9780395177112) at Barnes & Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/hobbit-j-r-r-tolkien/1100068700?ean=9780395177112&itm=1&usri=hobbit) is most familiar to me, and I was about to get it until I saw the UK version in a slipcase on Amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hobbit-J-R-Tolkien/dp/000711835X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327437344&sr=8-1) and HarperCollins' Tolkien store (http://www.tolkien.co.uk/titles/30083/the-hobbit-de-luxe-edition-j-r-r-tolkien-9780007118359/?from=HC-UK). The customer images provided help some, but even with the US edition at my local store, I cannot physically flip through a copy to examine because of the shrink wrap.

Can anyone with either edition comment on quality and content?

Comments about similar special editions of other works are welcome. I see there are similar HC deluxe editions (http://www.biblio.com/j-r-r-tolkien/the-jrr-tolkien-deluxe-edition~71501841~title) of The Lord of The Rings, The Children of Húrin, and Tales From The Perilous Realm among others. In the US, there have been HMH special editions of LOTR as well: a red version (http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Collectors-J-R-R-Tolkien/dp/0395193958/ref=tmm_hrd_title_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1327438039&sr=8-2), which appeals to me, and a more recent black version (http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-50th-Anniversary/dp/0618517650/ref=tmm_hrd_title_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1327438039&sr=8-2), which I do not fancy the color of so much.

Houghton Miffilin Harcourt collector's edition (US) & HarperCollins deluxe slipcase edition (UK)

This made me start thinking about the different artwork and presentations of the works that I've enjoyed...will start a thread on that shortly!
