View Full Version : WW XCVII: Werewolves in the Westfold
Meneltarmacil

As the Council of Elrond debates what to do with the Ring, Saruman begins his attack on Rohan. The town of Isenbridge is his first target, but rather than risk open war this early, he has sent werewolves to destroy it from within.
Unknown to Saruman, though, he's not the only wizard with an interest in this town...
Roles
Wolves (3): Kill one villager during the Night. May PM at Night.
Radagast the Brown (Seer): Talks to the animals every Night; they tell him/her the role of one villager.
Alatar and Pallando, the Blue Wizards (Cobblers): Attempt to interfere with the village by day, get the innocents lynched and protect the wolves. Can PM during the day, must be silent at Night.
Eomer or Eowyn (Ranger): May protect one villager during the Night.
Votes: Votes are not retractable. To be considered valid, each vote must be bolded and preceded by two plus signs, like this:
++My Invisible Friend Bob. In the event of a tie, the lynchee will be chosen at random from among the top vote-getters.
Other Rules: Anybody who does not post for an entire day or does not vote for two days in a row will be modfired unless they provide a good reason on the Admin Thread.
The deadline will be the same as the last game, 1pm GMT.
Ideally, I'd like 15 players for this game. We can work with less, but I may have to drop the new Cobbler idea if that happens.
Sign-ups may now begin. Including a role for yourself is recommended.
Villagers
Coppermirror: Toymaker
Eomer of the Rohirrim: Tavern lackey
Galadriel55: Half-deaf tapestry weaver
Inziladun: Baker
Kitanna: Cranky hermit
Nerwen: Horse trader of doubtful integrity
Nessa Telrunya: Midwife
Pitchwife: Grumpy old man
satansaloser2005: Wandering minstrel
Shastanis Althreduin: Wandering minstrel

Please put me down with a question mark; I'll be gone July 6-11, so my participation depends on when we start the game (aka hopefully after that).
I'll think about a role/occupation. Can I just be the town bicycle again? No? Just checking. :p

I shall weave tapestries.
How can I miss this? :smokin:

Nah, I couldn't live up to that performance of Nilp's. ;) I'll be a tavern lackey.

I would like to play, but for now please put a question mark next to my name. If I can play or not depends on the DL.

I'll sign up. Every village needs its very own wandering minstrel, right? :Merisu:

Yes, seven players do not a village make.
Well, not unless you want them all to end up as wolf chow in short order.

This is just a reminder that I will be unable to wolf my were until at least the 11th (more likely the 13th, as I'll need time to recuperate). If the game starts before then, I will not be participating, but if we begin any time after that, I will be happy to play.
Given the last game, I think it's appropriate that I choose to be Shasta's partner in song. :Merisu:

You're right! Your voice is rather (in)famous. How could I forget that people would rather listen to crows' croaking than your and Shasta's duets? :Merisu:;):P
Maybe I should alter my own occupation a wee bit. I'll be a weaver who is half deaf. :smokin:

As it seems clear that the game will start after the 13th, I think we can safely say that Sally will be able to participate.
That is, if the game gets started at all. We still need more people, and that means YOU, readers. I wish more people would sign up, but this game seems to have gone forgotten for a while now.

Correct, sir. I just returned to civilization this afternoon, and am itching for some Werewolf action. And more players, you say? I'm on it.

I was holding off signing up for this, since I knew it would be unwise for me to commit if the game was going on this week.
Since it looks unlikely we'll begin in less than 4-5 days, I'm in as the local baker.

For a second I read baker as banker, and I thought what on earth do cupcakes and scones have to do with it.
(Did I not choose the right occupation? Except that now it's more of a half-blindness than half-deafness.)
Galadriel55

I was hoping the game would start earlier. If it does not start, like, now (which it likely won't) I might have to drop out. :( In a couple of weeks I'm leaving for a week, then I'm back for a couple days and gone again, so I won't be able to play.
I'm still in if the number of players suddenly doubles in the next week or so, but if not...
Sorry guys. :(

Guys, I don't know if this will work. I'm afraid we might be facing the end of Werewolf.

Menel, have you tried inviting people directly?
Inziladun
07-23-2012, 07:52 AM
I think maybe the moot in the UK has a lot of the usual players occupied just now.
I wouldn't despair. Summer's usually a time with lower participation anyway, it seems.

Welcome to the Downs, Coppermirror! And thanks for signing up!:smokin:
Since, over the years, Barrowdowns Werewolf has developed its own jargon and so on, you might want to have a look at the general guidelines thread. Especially the Glossary (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showpost.php?p=638808&postcount=3) section. Otherwise it can get confusing.

Thanks for the warm welcome, satansaloser2005 and Nerwen. :) I'll look at the glossary for terms I don't recognise.
A friend who's been lurking here for years showed me this forum a month or so ago, and since then one of my hobbies has been reading the old Werewolf games in chronological order. Only got through about 12 of them so far. Once I noticed there was a game being planned right now (one with not enough players yet, no less!) I couldn't resist signing up. I look forward to playing with you all.

Welcome indeed, Coppermirror! I commend you on your most honourable quest of reading old games and I wish you luck! Having posted only twice you're probably more of a werewolf expert than I am... :) Have fun this game!
I'm here for another week and a half. I think I will still have enough time to play if we start now, but I doubt it if it takes a week longer.

Nobody's had any luck finding more players? It must be a bad time of year. I'm afraid I haven't got anyone in mind to drag into it either, since the only person I could try is just too busy right now.
The wolves could definitely use some fresh meat.
Quite. When I'm inevitably eaten by them, I hope I provide a delicious dinner at least. :)

I might make a fair midwife.

Historically midwives were the first to be targeted. Better watch that survival record. :p

We're up to 10 people now, which is about the bare minimum needed to start. Unfortunately, as G55 is likely to be unable to play, we still would need someone else. And if we do get 10, we won't be able to use the Ranger or Cobblers. However, we're closer to starting now than before, so keep your fingers crossed.

Bumping the topic up...
But I also have a small question, and this seems to be a reasonable place to ask it. I've read a lot of Werewolf games but I've somehow missed finding out about a detail of the rules.
If you are one of the werewolves, are there any particular rules for how you decided on a kill via PM? That is, do you cast a vote amongst the group of three before PMing the mod with the choice, or do you simply decide as a group the sensible way? Probably the latter, but I'm still curious to know for certain.

A good question. Normally the wolves simply discuss options until they all agree on someone. Occasionally they run out of time, or there's a communication breakdown, and one wolf has to make the decision alone. There's never actually been a formal rule about it, though.

OK, I don't think it likely that we're going to get any more people involved, (and I did try PMing some people) so I'll start the game tomorrow. With the low number of players, it will be an old-school "3 wolves and a Seer" game.
As for the deadline, I'm thinking 9 AM US Eastern Time, which I believe works out to 2 PM GMT.

Menel, something similar happened to Foley's game (you were away from the Downs at the time). Couldn't get it started for... ever? But then it finally got enough players in the end and all the cool roles were there.
So don't get discouraged... it's just that everyone leaves around now for Britmoot, and of course they are too busy to play. When they all come back though, in a couple weeks, I'd say it's likely there'll be a wave of willing victims... erm, players, I mean. :)
Though it's up to you. If you want to mod sooner...
It's just that I was excited to see the new twist to the roles. But if it doesn't work, it just doesn't work.
Meneltarmacil
08-08-2012, 05:06 PM
Whoever's modding the next game is free to use the "two cobblers" variant, so it may still see the light of day. In fact, if you want to mod the next one, G55, it's open.
Anyhow, I still need an occupation, so I'll be a fisherman.
Nogrod
08-08-2012, 05:18 PM
It's always sad to see a game stalling like this... :(
I have been and just will be too busy to take part at this moment... maybe later when fall comes and things settle down in RL.
I do hope as well that you don't feel disencouraged Menel - and all the new players: this is not how things go "normally". The Brit-Moot takes many people out of the game, the starting of a sememster in some countries explains another piece, etc...
Have a good game and enjoy!
Oftentimes small old-skool games are the best ones!
Galadriel55
08-08-2012, 05:52 PM
I was just thinking... I've never been in a game where the Seer is the only role either! So I'm still excited to play in this one, for a different reason.
That still doesn't scratch it that it's a shame to drop the cobblers. But what can we do but to make the most of the time that is given to us? :)
Meneltarmacil
08-08-2012, 11:57 PM

Sorry guys, unexpectedly crazy day. Losing a kitten somewhere in the house, then work and stuff, and missing a bus that comes once an hour, and now that I finally sat down by my computer I get news that in five minutes we're leaving to visit someone. I'll be back before midnight.
To make up for this, I'll wake up early tomorrow to be on before DL.
