Few days back I was talking to a friend of mine, and he told me about a book, The Secret. He kept telling me how cool it was, and I was like "Don't tempt me, (...). Don't tempt me." Often I keep imitating Gollum. What about you?

Since I started doing philosophy again I've said this line a few times; you can rarely get a simple answer:
"Go not to the Elves for counsel, for they will say both no and yes.
This was one of the quotations I stuck on my till when I worked in a shop many moons ago. I always liked it. :)

I'd read somewhere, perhaps on another board, a reader saying "Go not to Tolkien for answers, for he will say both no and yes." :p

None, though his work has had a strong influence on my writing.
In "conversation"...the closest is this:
"If it asks and precious doesn't answer, we gives it...a pencil! But if precious asks...and it doesn't answer...IT GIVES US A PENCIL!!!"
Oh, also, "Maim! Mutilate, mangle, crush. See HARM." (A purely imaginary but postage pre-paid prize to anyone who understands the reference.)
