I tend to think so,but Im not sure as he definately wasnt corrupted by Melkor but rather by his own lust for power and order and his jealousy of both Olorin and Sauron. What do you think? Can he be seen as a Maia corrupted by Morgoth?

Yes, because all corruption originated from Melkor. The West regected his Spirit and the only other place for it to go is the Void.

But he never paid hommage to Melkor himself, and in fact he desired power for his own,i think you can put him in league with Ungoliant as an evil Ainu operating independent from Melkor.

All evil stems from the one great fall. It often seems like were acting in our own interests but, if we act against God/Eru/Illuvaltar we are really acting for Melkor. There are only two sides and you have to be on one, you can't just be on your own side.
Anyways Saruman hailed to Sauron and Sauron to Melkor so he did pay homige to Melkor.

Saruman thought he was operating by himself. Truth is, he was a only a small part in the greater evil, and it all stems from the one evil.

From my limited understanding of these matters, doesn't all evil come from Melkor's discordant etc music whereas good comes from Iluvatar's harmonious music? This being the case, then all evil comes directly from Melkor, and all good from Iluvatar? Or have I over simplified it?

I kinda doubt that Curumo fell under Melkor's sway while he still had any power; the Valar probably would not have sent him as a representative of the West if so. Curumo was just arrogant, and wanted to be the bigshot in the group. Gandalf annoyed him because he took the spotlight off of him now and then (The story of Olorin being chosen in UT, Gandalf being given the Elven-ring). Curumo just let his own hubris nail him to the wall, that's all.

A lot of the marring of Arda was due to melkor's diisemation of his power into the fabric of Arda. Though his pyhsical body was destroyed by Namo, his spirit lived on in the void. Could Saruman's fea have fled to the void and become one of his underlings? Possibly.

Where else could it have gone? There it will wait till the end of the world when it will try to return to Arda along with the rest of Melkor's defiled hosts and finally be utterly destroyed.
