I am in need of everyone's aid. smilies/biggrin.gif
My school is already asking me to submit a senior quote for my yearbook next year and I really want to do a Tolkien nugget. However, I don't want to go through all his books trying to find an inspirational phrase. That would be slightly painstaking. smilies/wink.gif So I need some ideas for quotes- if you have any you can think of off the top of your head for a starry-eyed high school senior. smilies/tongue.gif
The quotes can't be more than 25 words. Otherwise, go for it, and thanks in advance! smilies/smile.gif

The idea that we get from plays and novels, is that falling in love is something that just happens to us, like measles.
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, in his book:
Tree and Leaf.
Hope it does the job!! smilies/cool.gif

i highlighted all my fave quotes in my copy of LOTR to read them often. There are SO many. I'll go get them some other time for you, when i have more time, but here's some of my personal faves:
"The wide world is all around you. You can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out."
-Gildor Inglorien in Fellowship
"Starting is too great a claim for any, and only a small part is played in great deeds by any hero."
-Elrond
"It's a dangerous business going out your front door. You step on the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there no knowing where you might be swept of to."
-Bilbo
"Not all those who wander are lost."
-Aragorn's poem
"Such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere."
-Elrond
"I will not say: do not weep, for not all tears are an evil."
-Gandalf
"So it must often be, when things are in danger: someone must give them up, lose them, so that others may keep them."
-Frodo (hmmm never mind, that probably wouln't be a good yearbook quote even though it's a good one.)
"The road goes ever on and on..."
-Bilbo
The quote in my signature is a good one too smilies/smile.gif
That's all i can remember for now. And speaking of senior quotes...i'll have to start thinking about which one I'm gonna use, even though i don't graduate til '04! he heh... it'll be soo hard to choose because i have sooo many favorite Tolkien quotes.
Tolkien is the greatest!

Well, here are some touching quotes, and some funny ones....
I think someone else mentioned it but the one when Bilbo discussed not to go out your front door because it's a dangerous business is good.
"Give me fish now and keep nassty chips."-Gollum
"Not all that is gold glitters, not all who wander are lost."-Aragorn
When Gandalf disscusses the life/death ideas of Gollum to Frodo.
Actually, that wasn't all that helpful, sorry. I didn't have my books with me, but they are some of my personal faves. Good luck!

I don't know half of you as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Here are a bunch that I liked (my sister made my search for them for a book she was filling with quotes):
"I love him. He's like that, and sometimes it shines through, somehow. But I love him, whether or no."
-Sam (not very yearbook-y, I'll admit)
"What do you fear, lady?" he asked.
"A cage," she said, "To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is beyond recall or desire."
-Aragorn/Eowyn
"Therefore I say to you, lady: Stay! For you have no errand to the South."
"Neither have those others who go with thee. They go only because they would not be parted from thee - because they love thee."
-Aragorn/Eowyn
"I will take the Ring," he said, "though I do not know the way."
-Frodo
"There go three that I love, and the smallest not the least," he said. "He knows not to what end he rides, yet if he knew he would still go on."
-Aragorn
"I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil."
-Gandalf
Pity filled his heart and great wonder, and suddenly the slow-kindled courage of his race awoke. She should not die, so fair, so desperate! At least, she should not die alone, unaided.
-Battle of Pelenor Fields
"Aure entuluva!/Day shall come again!"
-sorry, do not know who said this smilies/frown.gif
Amin mela llie/I love you all
-as far as I know, it is just an Elvish phrase
and one of my personal favs:
"Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens."
-Gimli
Just my input smilies/smile.gif

I really like these quotes too:
"Few can foresee whither their road will lead them, till they come to its end" ~ Legolas (THE TWO TOWERS)
"What do you fear, lady?" he asked.
"A cage," she said, "To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is beyond recall or desire."
-Aragorn/Eowyn
Can you guys please tell me what page, or at least what chapter those quotes are from? I'd really like to know so that i can read them in context. Thanks!

The "What do you fear, Lady?" comes from "The Return of the King", Chapter II (The Passing Of The Grey Company). In my all-in-one edition (with the picture of the Nazgul from the movie on the front), it is on page 767.
