You know the swords in Middle Earth normaly have names. Well, what would you name your sword? I was thinking of 'Slice & Dice'.

Hmmm... Paperweight the Unused. (Seriously, what would I do with a sword? I named my white cane "Excalibur" once, though; that was before I got my dog.)

Bob the Idiot-chopper definatly outstrips Slice and Dice(which really wasn't good at all) But in my opinion all these names are great. I'm getting tons of laughs. Keep the names coming.

Hm. Ages ago I had an elf-like character whose sword was named 'To Sanctify Justice' I gave it a name that was it some made up language which was supposed to mean the above. Out of curiosity I put To Sanctify Justice in the name generator (Elf) and came out with:
Morhuanion.
Guess I'd name my sword that. smilies/smile.gif

Well, for my work in the garment trade, I'm going to need 3 swords:
Alagdeloth: Paper Scissors (for pattern-making when the CAD system crashes)
Bragolmereth: Fabric Cleaver
Sirithlithion: Pinking Shears (used only for fabric swatches on story boards!)
They sound so elegant in Elvish.

Phil The Balrog

Belegthôlion meaning "Justice and Mercy"
or something more menacing like
Galenchilion meaning "Devil's Bane"
Nilmerethion meaning "Demon Fang"
Ringgaerion meaning "Righteous Anger"
Neftalion meaning "Dragon Tooth"
or something really hardcore like
Eglanedlorion which is "I kill bad guys and always get the girl"
Guess I could just name it Little Phil.

I'd probably call my sword 'Vanwalach, the Blunt and Cowardly'.
Vanwalach is elvish for Fred.
Not half as good as Mr Pointy or Bob the Idiot Chopper, I know, but it's the best I can do.
smilies/biggrin.gif
Courage the Cowardly Sword would be my pick (anyone here watch cartoons?).
Or maybe Big-&%$ Toothpick.
Well, seriously speaking, if I ever did get these hands of mine on a sword, I would name probably name it Poltava, after the site of the great battle that Russia fought with Sweden. Needless to say, Russia won that one (no offense to the Swedes!). Or Ilya Mooromets, after the mighty fairy-tale hero.

Waenrûthion - God's Holy Sword
Tanquesse - Holy Sword

Hobbit: Hugo Tunnelly from Woody End.
Orc: Púshtrak the Despoiler

I´ve got some names from the Elven Name generator:
Culalquamegil, Maikalad (meaning things like Headchopper the brutal)
Or how about Sauralda- chopper of useless people
and Thauronoon- Slayer of useless people.
or Orogrod- Orcslayer, the living death...
You can get some good names there but I think if you want to have a real good name you should translate a name into Sindarin or Quenya. I cannot speak any elven language yet, but I´m about to learn it.

Ok, since I'm a very split personality I have three different characters to give swords to.. ^_^ the first (which I like the best) is my peaceloving elf that'll go seek the valar and so on.. Her sword would be named Dûrore which means I'm a peacelover, but if any orcs come near me, I'll have to slay them..
My second character would be someone really mean, like an orc.. His/her sword would be named Melranko or Dûrbtak the Devastor, which both means Hate of all living beings..
My third character is just neutral, but a little bit easy on the sword when it comes to killing people, so her/his sword would be named Ainalindë or Bôrwûsh the Looter, which both means Neutral blade of death..
Well, if nothing else, that at least showed my split personality.. Of course, I could call my sword something like "Greenleaf the heartstealer".. if you think about it, you'll understand it..

I'd like to name my sword something Elvish, perhaps meaning 'Blood Warrior' or 'Slayer of Orcs', although a Numenorean name would be grand.

SILMEGILAINAVAL!!! muhahahahhaa! cumbersome name, but it fits the sword it would be given-BIG-HONKING TWO-HANDED SWORD!! (not claymore-theys got a goofy hilt). it means "shining sword of HOLY MIGHT" (it's a paladin thing). actually, val means power while beleg means might, but Silmegilainabeleg had more of a "clunk" than a ring to it-so i chose val on the assumption might and power were interchangeable. hee hee hee-been waiting for a thread like this. Aralaithiel, YOU ROCK! I want a flaming sword too! Silmegilainaval would be a sword you'd have to take weightlifting your entire school career to lift, though-unless it was made of titanium. to give you an idea, the handle would be a foot and 3 inches long...need i say more. it'd be more of a "scare the living crud out of your opponents" sword than an actual fighting sword-though not to say i wouldn't try to use it. the pommel jewel would have to glow when orcs are near, and the whole blade would glow when trolls are near. then you know what you're getting into!
Armadoin-go with "orc slayer"

Hello Everyone.
Personally, I wield axes. But a secondary sword in my sheath would bear the name 'Light Storm' in Common Speech. I'm not proficient in elvish, but the contrast of Light and Storm I'm sure would make an interesting word. Someone get back to me on this?

Now, something like "The Sword That Will Eventually Bring You To DOOM!" is too long, but I like that anyway... smilies/rolleyes.gif smilies/biggrin.gif
Otherwise (and seriously) I named my sword Aure, meaning Light or Day. Kinda makes me think that the thing will bring back the Day (as mentionned in my sig) to the good guys or bring Light (which can be linked with hope) to the good guys in dire need. smilies/smile.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

I'd probably name my sword something Elven, but I'm too lazy at the moment to go to the name generator thingie to translate Shadowless, which is what its name would be in the Common Language. It would be a pure sword of white steel smilies/biggrin.gif But I might change the name...not sure yet smilies/wink.gif Or Shadowlight, or...*goes off to mumble and think*

OK...Vebeleth is the Elvish translation of Shadowless
Now I suppose I'd go with Vebeleth, although it doesn't sound as cool as the Common Language version smilies/wink.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

OK, my broadsword is called 'Silencia' despite the fact my friends say that makes it sound like a lady-shave.
My gallus is called 'Ragnarok' after the Saxon/Viking end of the world.
Neither of these items have ever been used to damage orcs but I can dream as they hang on my wall.
if i had a short sword..hmm.. I'd name it karlion. smilies/biggrin.gif
I just kina made that up 2 seconds ago. smilies/wink.gif

I don't know about My sword, but I think Legolas should name his pair of knives "shoulder blades" in Elven. Ha ha ha!
Well, let's see, I think I would name mine "big stick" in Elven, and then I could walk softly and carry a "big stick".

"Shoulder Blades"...really! Raefindel, what will we do with you? smilies/biggrin.gif
Mine is named Bragolfin, which is what I got when I put "Isis" into the name generator, but it also means "Sudden Hair"
If I don't captialize Isis, however, I get Belegtur, which (possibly redundantly) means "Mighty Powerful"
By the way, I'm not making these translations up; I got them out of the word thingy in the back of the Silm.

What was Elric of Melnibone's sword named? Stormbringer, I think?
Which, is a cool name, no doubt, but is kind of odd when you think about it. I mean, it's sort of like naming your sword, "Severe Tropical Depression", or "Unstable Air Mass".
Beware! Or you shall face the wrath of Strato-Cumulous!!!"
"Ere... wot kind of toff name is that then, eh?"
I would name my sword "Dragon Claw".
Or "Eddie"
It could go either way.

I would name my sword after the elvish-name of my long-suffering character in the Return of the Entish Bow RP series, Andotiruves, which in English means "The Gatekeeper". The elvish sounds so much more impressive and mysterious.
EDIT: For those who want to come up with a real elvish name instead of depending on the name-generator, there is a pretty good English-to-Elvish Dictionary here. (http://www.nevrast.net/s.html) Ram a couple of good words together and see what you can come up with.

I thought of another name, along the lines of the original Slice-And-Dice:
The Ronco Orc-O-Matic!!
It slices, it dices, it even makes little julienne Orc-fries!
The Squatter of Amon Rûdh

I've often toyed with naming my sword after the one that belongs to Geirmund Thunder in Laxdæla Saga. Fótbítr, 'Leg-biter': says it all really. If I were feeling self-referential I'd call it Wylkynsion, but as it is it has no name.

What was the name of the sword worn by Michael Moorcock's character, Elric of Melnibone? Stormbringer? Good name.
Originally, it was translated as "Low Pressure Cell", which doesn't carry nearly the cache as Stormbringer.

One of the more amusing points in my Lord of the Rings fan life was whilst I was reading FotR for the first time. My friend TheGreatElvenWarrior was talking to me about something and mentioned Frodo's sword. I distinctly remember asking "So what was the sword called? I bet it's something pathetic like Sting . . . ". Yes, I actually said that. TheGreatElvenWarrior thought this was hilarious and finally revealed to me that this in fact the sword's name and I was appalled. I never DID like that name. . .
'The Dragon Disseverer' would have been much better. But then why would anyone want to dissever a dragon? Perhaps 'The Radish Ripper' then. Or even better: 'The Slug Severer', slugs are far worse than Sauron - everyone knows that.
