I'd probably have to say that my favorite quote isn't from the movie, but from the book:

Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens. -- Gimli

It's kind of my motto now.

Gimli; NO, NOT THE BEARD!!!!

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for us to deside. All we must do is figure out what to do with the time that is given to us.

Legolas: A lament for Gandalf, what did they say about him? I have not the heart to tell you, For me the grief is still to near
&
If Gandalf would walk in front, maybe he could melt the snow
(Why do I allways forget who these quotes go?)

Boromir: One does not simpl walk into Mordor...

Aragorn: I would have followed you to the verry fires of Mordor

I love Gandalf's quote! That's my most favorite part of the movie: when Frodo's just standing there with the ring in his hand, and then you see Gandalf. It makes me cry smilies/frown.gif

Here are some of mine from the book:

"How long have you been eavesdropping?

"Eavesdropping, sir? I don't follow you, begging your pardon. There ain't no eaves at Bag End, and that's a fact!" -Gandalf and Samwise Gamgee

"Fool of a Took! This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!" -Gandalf

Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising
He rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
Hope he rekindled, and in hope ended;
Over death, over dread, over doom lifted
Out of loss, out of life, unto long glory.
-Funeral Lament for King Théoden of the Mark

'So I thought too, once. But I have been hurt too deeply, Sam. I tried to save the Shire, and it has been saved, but not for me. It must often be so, Sam, when things are in danger: some one has to give them up, lose them, so that others may keep them....' -Frodo

'...You will read things out of the Red Book, and keep alive the memory of the age that is gone, so that people will remember the Great Danger and so love their beloved land all the more. And that will keep you busy and happy as anyone can be, as long as your part of the Story goes on...'-Frodo Baggins

And some of movie favorite movie quotes are:

'They have a cave troll!' Boromir

'Be at peace, son of Gondor.' Aragorn to Boromir

And of course the Fool of a Took line!!!

Sam sat down, blushing and muttering. 'A nice pickle we have landed ourselves in, Mr. Frodo!' he said, shaking his head.

That cracks me up every time!

i love the bit in the book where gandalf tells legolas to go find the sun. Legolas smiles for awhile before jumping on to the snow and speeding off down the mountain! it's soo funny when pictured in your head!
and i love to use it when people ask where someone is..
"i think they went to find the sun!"
wierd looks follow!

'Po-ta-toes!', said Sam.

That's one of the few quotes I like in the book.

I have so many "favorite" quotes.....here are a couple:

"Frodo turned and saw Strider, and yet not Strider; for the weatherworn Ranger was no longer there. In the stern sat Aragorn, son of Arathorn, proud and erect, guiding the boat with skillful strokes; his hood was cast back, and his dark hair was flowing in the wind, a light was in his eyes: a king returning from exile to his own land."

"All that is gold does not glitter;
Not all who wander are lost;
the old that is strong does not wither;
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king."

"no indeed, you at least shall go with him. It is hardly possible to separate you from him, even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not" Elrond,I, p.356

"Come! Let us go on! The thought of those merry young folk driven like cattle burns my heart." Legolas, II, p.20

"It is kingsfoil, Sir, but not fresh, I fear.It must have been culled two weeks ago at the least, I hope it will serve, Sir?" Then looking at Faramir he burst into tears. Bergil, III, p.161

Mine is from TTT

''Where now the Dunadan,Elessar,Elessar?
Why do thy kinsfolk wander afar?
Near is the hour when the lost shall come forth.
And the grey company ride from the north.
Dark is the path apointed for thee.
But the dead watch the road that leads to the sea''

and from the movie:G-will you look into the mirror? F-what will I see? G- even the wisest cannot tell, for the mirror shows many things.Things that were, things that are,and some things that have not yet come to pass. F-then I will look.

Yes, I like the all that is gold does not glitter one, written for Aragorn son of Aragoth smilies/tongue.gif and I like it when Gandalf says the writing on the ring: Ash nazg durbatuluk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thakatuluck burzum-ish krimpatul! (I know the whole poem and thingy of by heart too!) And I love the elven lore for the ring three rings for the...well most people know it so I won't bother....and i do love bilibo's speech ^^ And when Frodo lifts up his sword on the other side *sigh* okay..I might as well re-write the whole book if I want to finish :P

Beware the Dragon, lest he eat your yams!

hehe! I love freakazoid (I hope I spelled that right.

Another quote I like is :I made a promise,Mr.Frodo,a promise.''don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee'' and I don't mean to,I don't mean to.

"Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it."
Galadriel.
I love the nostalgia in that line. It gives the entire legend more depth.

"Where is the horse and the rider,
Where is the horn that was blowing
They have passed like rain on the mountain,
Like wind in the mead
The days come down in the west
Behind the hills, to shadow..."
Theodon.

"If by my life or death, if I can protect you, I will. You have my sword."
Aragorn, movie.

"What chance do you think you have? They will find you. They will take the ring. And you will beg for death before the end!"
Boromir

"Gondor has no King, Gondor needs no King."
Boromir.

Okay, let's just say: if Boromir said it, it's got my love. He does have some powerful utterances.

Adding:

"One day our paths will lead us there. And the tower guard shall take up the call. For the Lords of Gondor have returned."
Boromir, movie.

"Even the smallest person can change the course of the future."
Galadriel, movie.

Again, the nostalgia sets in.

One quote I really do love is not so much a quote as a passage. It's the description of Boromir from Fellowship, and it's not particularly special but it seems to have captured my heart.

Wow Meela, you sure like those books...

*backs away slowly, keeping an eye on Meela*

WELL SO DO I!!! Bwahahahaha!

Then why do these black horses endure such riders? All other animals are terrified when they draw near, even the elf-horse of Glorfindel. The dogs howl and the geese scream at them. oooeeeoooeee!

Still my fave.
'' ...Our list of alies(did i spell that right?) grows thin'' Elrond

My fave from LOTR would have to be this one from the book (FOTR)
"'The strongest must seek a way you say? But I say: let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow -- an Elf.'" ~Legolas-arrogant elf~ He's still cool though, dont get me wrong!

But from outside LOTR it would have to be:
"We are the knights who say NI!"

Love that word NI!

I have loads of favorite quotes, but I haven't read the books in english yet, as they didn't have The Fellowship of the Ring in an english version when I first bought the books, and I didn't want to start straight on to Two Towers. And afterwards... well I've been busy enough reading my norwegian versions several times, hehe. I think I'm going to buy the english ones as soon as I get some more money though. Anyways (back to what I was going to say.) I don't want to translate any of my favourite quotes, incase I get them wrong. If I'm going to quote anything Tolkien has written, I want to be sure I quote him right.

Indeed. I can avoid being seen if I wish, but too disappear entirely, that is a rare gift. -Aragorn

Iii, I just love Viggo's accent when he says that, and I luv the line too, hihi smilies/biggrin.gif .

From the book...

Do you think you killed him with that apple, Sam? -Pippin

'Nob!' he said to himself, slapping his forehead. 'Now what does that remind me of?' -Butterbur
'Not another letter you've forgotten, I hope, Mr.Butterbur? -Merry

"Maybe not, Sam," said Frodo; "but it's like things are in the world. Hopes fail. An end comes. We have only a little time to wait now. We are lost in ruin and downfall, and there is no escape.

*Sigh* But then everything is alright in the end...right?!?

I also like Eowyn's talk to the Witch-King

But no living man am I! You look upon a woman! Eowyn I am, Eomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.

Frodo: Mordor, Gandalf, Left or Right?
Heh, too cute!
Bilbo: I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
They [Merry and Pippin] were brought to Fangorn, and their coming was like the falling of small stones that starts an abalanche in the mountains. -Gandalf
"Yes, yes we could. Spoiling nice fish, scorching it. Give me fish now, and keep nassty chips!"
"Oh you're hopeless," said Sam. "Go to sleep!"
This next one is from Stupid Ring Parody at
www.stupidring.com (http://www.stupidring.com).
Legolas: Hey, look it's Gandalf!
Aragorn: I thought he died.
Legolas: He died?
Aragorn: Yes, he fell down the thing.
Legolas: What thing?
Aragorn: You know, the deep thingy... what's that called? Come on guys, remember in Moria? That deep place we passed over on the bridge?
Legloas: We were in Moria?
Aragorn: What's it called?

From the Hobbit, a nameless Elf as Thorin was crossing the bridge to the Last Homely House; " Don't dip your beard in the foam, Father!"

From RotK Aragorn's reply when Merry requests pipe weed; "Master Meriadoc, if you think that I have passed through mountains and the realm of Gondor with fire and sword to bring herbs to a careless soldier who throws away his gear, you are mistaken. If you pack has not been found, then you must send for the herbmaster of this House. And he will tell you that he did not know that the herb you desire had any virtues, but that it is called westmansweed by the vulgar and galenas by the noble, and other names in other tongues more learned, and after adding a few half-forgotten rhymes that he does not understand, he will regretfully inform you that there is none in the House, and he will leave you to reflect on the history of tongues. Not all who wonder are lost-Tolkien
Many that live deserve death, and some that die deserve to live. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death as judgement.-Gandalf
Nay, Gandalf! You do not know your own skill in healing. It shall not be so. I myself will go to war, to fall in the front of the battle, if it must be. Thus shall I sleep better-Theoden Then even the defet of Rohan will be glorious in song-Aragorn

Not a quote but a cool apasage.
Legolas already lay motionless, his fair hands folded upon his breast, his eyes unclosed, blending living night and deep dream, as is the way with elves.
