Yup. Saurun was referred to as the Necromancer when he was resurrecting himself in Southern Mirkwood. He was defeated there by the White Council and then fled to Mordor.
He had a tower in Souther Mirkwood, but I forget the name smilies/frown.gif

Not altogether defeated by the White Council. He knew about their attack, and therefore already had prepared his going to Barad-dur. Sauron was always one step ahead to the Council, except in the end smilies/wink.gif

Riel Guldur in Sindarin. I too am a Necromancer. I guard the living when the dead arise, then bind them back beyond the first gate. I am not a servant of the Charter, but I do not raise, I bind.
Sorry- you will understand if you have read Sabriel. I am obsessed with Necromancers.
