Click on 'leaf' for a pic of the pin:
LEAF (http://www.noblecollection.com/catalog/catalog.cfm?catid=17)
You can make a very nice pin from shrinky-dink sheets that you can get at your local craft store. Follow the directions on preparing the sheet of shrinkable plastic, then put your prepared piece of plastic over a VERY large drawing of the leaf, and trace the outline of the leaf through the plastic. Use a foresty, bright green colored pencil to color in the leaf, then cut it out and bake it according to directions. You can then apply silver paint for the veins, and some very inexpensive silver colored wire for the looping stem and vine. Hot glue a pinback to the backside of the leaf and there you have it.
BTW - what will the rest of the costume look like?

On a similar thread we had talked about making them out of shrinky-dinks.

Shriny-dinks are sheets of plastic that you draw on with colored pencils and heat in the oven. They then shrink to 1/3 their origional size, become thicker and the colors more vibrant. They are available in crafting and rubber stamping stores. It's easy and fun.
Brooch of Lorien (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=000782)This is a link to the other thread. Lots of ideas.

The rest of my costume will be a green from-fitting long sleeve t-shirt with gold pants and a green sleeveless overcoat. Its kind of a modern elf deal

There are actually LOTS of sources for shrinky-dinks and LOTS of web sites about them. I just posted the first I found. I would probablly try to look locally for them before I would buy them off the net. Many craft stores carry them but most people either don't remember them or have never heard of them. (They are a distant memory form the past.)

What works and what doesn't
Rubber-stamping pens- DON'T (go figure, I bought the shrinky dinks in a rubber-stamping store)
colored pencils- Work best
For the silver
Gel-pens- Don't
felt-tip paint pen-Works for a while
Paint- Works best. The filt-tip pen kept getting dry and quit working.
I tried doing the silver veining both before and after baking- After works best.
Another idea; punch a hole in it and make a key ring.

If you can't find actual "Shrinky Dinks" there's also something put out by Aleene's called "Shrinkable plastic"--or to that effect. Same idea exactly--just diffrent name--usually in craft stores.
"An hour since he vanished!" shouted Sam. "We must try and find him at once. Come on! "

yes but you have to watch whether you get sanded or non-sanded. The non has to be sanded before you can use it. smilies/frown.gif

If you really want to spend the time and effort, try making one from a polymer ceramic. They have a lot of colors for the clay. Unfortunately, I don't know how expensive the polymer clay's will be.

"I can take you to them, sir," said Sam. "It's a big house, this, and very peculiar. Always a bit more to discover, and no knowing what you'll find round a courner. And Elves, sir! Elves here and Elves there! "

'My lad,' said Troll, 'this bone I stole,
But what be bones that lie in a hole?
Thy nuncle was dead as a lump o' lead,
Afore I found his shinbone!
Tinbone! Thinbone!
He can spare a share for a poor old troll,
For he don't need his shinbone.'

Happy Birhtday Samwise!
I'm sorry I was unable to find appropriate wire, but I imagine you will have a better chance of that in Cal that I would here in the Great White North.
I actually almost forgot I made you one; I made them so long ago, And almost forgot to put it in the box.

i am thinking about making one of the elvish crowns. I like Arwen's the best, but Galadriel's will do also. So if any one has any ideas or pics please let me know.
Thx.

Have you ever been on this site
LOTR Costumes (http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/)
This is the absolute best site for anything involving the costumes. they have a great selection of photos and information about patterns, making things such as the brooch, and one of the people on the site even made Galadriel's crown.

yes i have been on this site and they have Galadriel's crown, but not arwen's. So i was just wondering if anyone tried something like arwen's crown and if they had any suggestions.

well, one day I was bored and made an Elrond's headband out of tinfoil. Then after that I made a WitchKing of Angmar (sp? not caring) rings. They both came out very coo. Very bad, but as well cool.
