What is Sauron?

Actually, I beleive he is one of the demi-god things (you'll have to forgive me, it's been a while). Not the Valar, the bad ones. I dunno, someone help me out here. smilies/confused.gif

To my best knowing Sauron is just another evil Maia like the Balrog. A servant of Morgoth and a demi-god to the valar.

I think Sharkú hit the nail on the head there. He was a Maia of the Vala whom Melkor(Morgoth) currupted to his evil will. If my memory severs he was a fire spirt, which would explain the eye but i could be wrong on this.

Hmm...i always thought the Red Eye of Sauron was a symbol in where Sauron was able to keep watch over the lands of Middle-earth...

Yeah, that's exactly what the Eye is.
Sauron could take on a lot of different shapes like all the Ainur, but the Eye is not one of those, it is meant to be a symbol.
