Happy Christmas! I am doing this very quickly, my relatives think I'm a bit strange coming online on Christmas Day! I got a fab quiz book of LotR questions, the CD of the TT soudtrack and the Visual Companion. My father gave them to me, and I gave him exactly the same! NOT by design, I hasten to add.
Got to go, the turkey is being carved!
Merry Christmas everyone...

I had asked for a HoME-book: The Lost Road and other writings. I got it! I knew I was going to get it, but still...it was very nice. I will start reading it soon, after I have finished LotR for the 9th time, and read Morgoth“s Ring... smilies/biggrin.gif
I got loads of other things, but not Tolkien-related. It was a very nice Christmas. smilies/smile.gif (We celebrate it the 24th in Sweden btw.)

Hmmm...I got nothing LotR-related....I guess I spent all my "gift points" on my new guitar....oh, and the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. Seems pretty good, as it has a quote that says
Stands with The Lord of the Rings as one of the most resonant fantasies of our time.
I hope it lives up to that comparision smilies/smile.gif

I guess everyone else in the entire world got TTT soundtrack, because I did not get it smilies/frown.gif
Though my sister said they could not find it at Target, so I am going to have to get it later.
So the only LOTR related thing I received was the FOTR desktop calendar, which is a great thing to countdown to the ROTK!

I got the Lord of the Rings Two Towers video game for PS2 as well as the one for Gameboy Advance.
I also got a Lord of the Rings chess game.
Anyways, where do they sell the action figures? I've never really seen them and I'm curious to take a look at them to see what they're like and see if I might wanna buy one or two. ^_^

Most of what I got was LotR...but then, most of what I asked for was LotR!
A Tolkien calendar with illustrations by Ted Nesmith
Faramir and Eomer action figures (now I'll act out the Ithilien scene the RIGHT way!)
The Lord of the Rings version of Risk. Guess I'll have to learn how to play it!
A cool bookmark with Frodo and Sam--Meela, I find all of my bookmarks at Barnes and Noble's.
The FotR Extended Version! Whee! No bookends, but that's cool with me!
Not a bad haul, if I do say so myself. I hope everyone has had a blessed day. Merry Christmas, y'all!

I finally got HoME X Morgoth's Ring. I've been screaming for that one for a year now. smilies/wink.gif
Well, actually it was a belated birthday present, but since my b-day was the 19th and I got it the 21st I consider it a mix. smilies/biggrin.gif

Didn't recieve anything LOTR related--I think my family doesn't want to encourage something that is supposed to be "a passing phase"! Guess they forgot about my uncle--got into the books when he was twelve and he's fifty now, and has the trilogy leatherbound and in state on the top shelf of his bookcase.
Going to buy the TT soundtrack with the gift-certificate I got to Target. Catch-all department store that sells about everything you can imagine. I wonder if they have any Targets in Europe...
Oh, and Happy Chanukah to those who apply! (little late though, but I guess you still could have gotten something Tolkien-related)

I got LotR books in one big book and the sil because my other versions were falling apart, literally. I also got FotR for X-Box. I'm really glad I go x-box finally, but FotR for it isn't that great, I played it before, but I'm still happy. Went to bed at three; finished wrapping presents. Really tired right now smilies/redface.gif , but still happy smilies/biggrin.gif .

where do they sell the action figures?
Well, Frida, there are a few places you can try. First... Suncoast Videos seems to get the rarer ones, Second... KBee Toys usually has a lot but not the newest ones, Third... my mom has found a lot at Target, and lastley... you can find anything on Ebay.

where do u get all these bookmarks... especially the ones with the one ring on the end! and does anyone know where i can get elf ears?
I found all of the bookmarks at B.Dalton Books (usually in malls). Barnes and Nobles also seems to get all of them. Don't go to Borders because they don't get that many & they don't put the protective plastic things on them.
Elf ears... any costume shop should sell the ears.

I haven't got anything from my parents yet, as we don't celebrate the Catholic/Protestant Christmas. So, I'll get my presents on the 31st/1st and maybe on our actual Christmas, the 7th. However, the other day my mum said "So...what are you expecting from Santa this year, he he, he he?" I said TTT soundtrack, other Tolkien stuff, really. She smiled knowingly, so I'm guessing she's gonna tell Santa what I want. smilies/biggrin.gif
(Seriously though, I don't believe in the ingenious piece of marketing that is Santa Claus.)

Well, I didn't get that much LOTR related, but I did get 3 books (Book of Lost Tales 1, Book of Lost Tales 2, The Shaping of Middle Earth), the FOTR 2003 calendar (I already had this so I took it and made a collage out of the pictures), and I got this doll that is supposed to be an Irish princess doll but my mom said it looked like something Elvish so she got it for me. I have to admit it, it kinda did with the cloak and all. But that's all. Oh, but I did go see TTT over the break. So that is somewhat a really cool present for myself.
Edit: Oh, I forgot. How could I forget? I finally got the soundtrack for FOTR. But, I am taking the money I got to buy TTT soundtrack. So it all works out cool.

I am just in awe of what my mom got me... The Elvish pin from Noble Collection, the leaf-shaped pin that the Fellowship was given in Lothlorien. It's beautiful. I'm just in love. I think it's the best present ever! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif <~Very happy Azaelia!

Hmm. This year for Christmas, I got FotR:EE (I didn't own it yet), which was a joint present for me and my little brother (he's LotR-obsessed too, his name's High King Fingolfin on the 'Downs) and a elvish-looking necklace with leaves on it. Also, my grandma payed for all the fabric I bought for my Éowyn Halloween costume as a present. All my Hanukah present were also shared with my brother (my famly kelebrates both holidays). We got the RotK soundtrack, TTT:EE, and opening-day tickets to RotK. We also have accumulated approximately $75 (US) each worth of gift certificates to bookstores over various holidays. I can't wait to go drool over all their Tolkien books... Also, non LotR-related, I got a dvd of PotC. We stayed up until 12:30 am on Christmas eve watching it. smilies/evil.gif Tolkien's World from A to Z: The Complete Guide to Middle-Earth That is a very cool book!
Who knows, I may yet get more LotR stuff. My friends and I generally give presents after Christmas is over. Hope springs eternal! Merry Christmas and God bless you!
Knight of Gondor
12-25-2003, 10:22 PM
The main LotR-themed item I got this Christmas was the Aragorn Standee (http://www.lordoftheringscatalog.com/db/lotr/L2401.html). I already bought the Elven Brooch myself, when it was on sale for only $40!
I also got the Treebeard action figure, LotR Risk, and my siblings got some related stuff too. And I got the Middle-Earth maps set! You guys really need to get that, it's awesome!

Merry Christmas everybody smilies/smile.gif Well my Tolkien-related gifts were these:
A silver "One Ring" (very beautiful)
The Return of the King movie poster
An illustrated (by Allan Lee) Lord of the Rings book
And finally...tickets to see the Return of the King film (since the film is released today in Australia)...

Tolkien's World from A to Z: The Complete Guide to Middle-Earth
That is a very cool book!
I know! It is so good that everything is right there, and it has all kinds of stuff, not just from LOTR and the Sil, but stuff from UT, HoME and probebly some other stuff! My only complaint is that everything is all together, so for example, if I wanted to find the name of a place, and I didn't know what the first letter was, I would have to read the whole book. Which is such a tragedy I know. smilies/rolleyes.gif
I'm not exactly a novice or newcomer
Well, neither am I but hey, it is fun! Man, I've posted in this thread three times now! (Once was last year! Time sure flies when you're having fun!)

I got an Eomer action figure and a Leggy pin from my friend Tam Tam. Our other friend John got me a Leggy poster, all I could say was, "but I'm not a Nazgirl." as I gently bopped Tam Tam's daughter in the head with it. My Ant-LOTR obsessive step-dad got me the soundtrack to the ROTK. And I got a total of $70 in Hastings gift cards from mom and my aunt Paula, all this and not counting my aunt Liz who bought me a Coca - Cola lamp....yargg I mean how nice.
I guess I can't complain. I Got Tam Tam a book mark with the ring on it even though I am the Tolkien obsessive, I even had it wrapped at the bookstore... I helped my mother pick out my Grannys present, Frodo and Sam in orc suits. She loved them. She's a LOTR freak too, well both Mom and Granny are, but alas computers allude them.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any Christmas presents, but that's a long story. I donated the $25 I was going to get from my mom, so that she could buy Christmas presents to donate to a nearby charity, so that they could give them to needy families. I think we bought a total of $60 worth of stuffed animals and toy cars. True, I really did want that RotK CD, or LotR Trivial Pursuit Game, but I don't really NEED them. Those kids really NEEDED those gifts. They were living without the most basic of necessities (electricity, water, etc.), and for the kids, it would be a horrible way to find out that there is no Santa Claus. Now that I look back, and think about what I did, I think that I did keep to the true spirit of LotR, to give of yourself as much as you can for the greater good.

Well, these are the Lotr things I got for Christmas:
Nenya, from my Dad! smilies/biggrin.gif
The Return of the Shadow, from my brother.
A Two Towers 2004 calendar, from my Mom. Would have loved to have gotten the Ted Nasmith calendar, but hey. I'm not picky. smilies/smile.gif
My Mom also got my brother (who is also a Tolkien fan) and me the Lotr monopoly game, which we played last night. It was fun. smilies/smile.gif

Wow, Finwe, what you did is really cool. smilies/smile.gif
So far I've gotten two day-to-day calendars: one is the TTT Movie calendar, and one is a general Middle-Earth facts calendar.
By the way, I believe today is Kwanza, so Happy Kwanza to who(m?)ever is kelebrating that.

Yay! My aunt (who's visiting) bought me the LotR Trivial Pursuit Game!!!!!
*Finwe, who is currently wearing the cheap version of the One Ring that came with the game, bounces around the room with glee*
I guess I did get a Christmas present after all! smilies/biggrin.gif

Well Finwe that is very nice of you. Now I feel guilty about what I got. But that is nice you got the Trivial Pursuit.
I received...
-The Book of Lost Tales: Part 1
-The ROTK Soundtrack
-The 360 day TTT calendar
-The ROTK final poster (I now have all three, I feel kind of sad about it)
The poster is my absolute favorite, it also came with a small poster for the entire trilogy, which will be very easy to take around to hopefully get actors to sign smilies/smile.gif

I didn't get much LotR-related stuff - my family might humour me with some stuff, but they won't go so far as to buy me loads of related presents.
What I did get:
TTT day calendar
Bored of the Rings
The set of the books that has them in 7 different volumes (I didn't have my own set before, I just read my brother's)
And I bought the RotK soundtrack with some of my money, and went to see the film again with the friend who bought me the calendar.

Merry Christmas one and all! smilies/smile.gif I hope that everyone had as wonderful time as I did.
Well, Father Christmas (or, I should say, my wife smilies/wink.gif ) certainly noticed my rediscovered Tolkien obsession this year.
My most prized Tolkien-related Christmas present is The Letters of JRR Tolkien, from my wife, which I have wanted for a very long time. My wife also gave me: A Helm's Deep Battle action set, with Aragorn, Legolas and Beserker Orc figures (yes, I'm just a big kid at heart smilies/rolleyes.gif ). Attack at Weathertop action set, with Nazgul, Frodo and Sam figures (yes, a really big kid smilies/smile.gif ). The Hobbit game for Playstation 2 (getting the idea just how big a kid I am?) smilies/biggrin.gif The Soddit - a parody of The Hobbit (haven't read it yet, but it should be fun if it's anything like as good as Bored of the Rings). Characters from Tolkien by David Day (I know Day doesn't have a great name here on the Downs, but the illustrations are good). A RotK Calender (to replace my TTT one).
Oh, and a mini-fridge to keep my beers cold and close at hand while I'm on the computer (ie the Downs smilies/biggrin.gif ).
From other family members, I got a Frodo wine goblet and a pack of LotR (film) playing cards.
And amongst the presents that I gave my wife were the RotK soundtrack and a LotR diary (with illustrations by Ted Nasmith).
All in all, a very Tolkien Christmas. smilies/smile.gif

Oooh, Saucy. We need to stage a battle! Although we'll need a few more orcs. I received a Helms' Deep battle grouping of Theoden, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Haldir - along with a set of pint glasses and an assortment of winter ales.

Definately, Pio. And a few more Rohirrim too. I know that they were outnumbered, but my nice plastic Hornburg looks just a little bit too vulnerable with only Leggy and Aragorn defending it. Particularly as they provide no less than three spiky gunpowder ball things and two seige ladders (although only one Orc). smilies/biggrin.gif
I'm glad that you've got Theoden and Gimli. They were noticeably absent from my Helm's Deep set. But why Haldir, I wonder. smilies/wink.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Ah, I knew we had a thread on this topic somewhere in the depths of the forum! I'd like to add three audio versions of Tolkien's works that I got for Christmas this year:
The Hobbit, LotR, and Tales of the Perilous Realm, all in English, the BBC productions! I very much look forward to listening.

LotR - with that fabulous intro music! We keep saying we must sit down for a whole day and listen to that over again.
Strangely, no Tolkien for me this year because we have already got just about everything (sounds like a boast but it actually feels quite sad that there's not much to hunt down apart from special editions etc) but I did find a copy of Tolkien Studies 3 for davem, and also an old collected William Morris (not Tolkien, but of interest to fans!) in an antiquarian bookshop by York Minster.

Well, I finally got hold of The Road to Middle Earth by Tom Shippey. I've been constantly borrowing one from the Library for a while, so it was nice to actually get one.
Also, I got The Two Towers Complete Recordings. Is good! :smokin:
I didn't really get it this year, but I have The Battle for Middle Earth for the PC. I've not been able to play it until this Christmas when we at last got a computer that it would work on. Despite the fact that I was constantly saying how much this probably isn't what Tolkien had in mind, I found myself playing it for five hours straight. :D

I got the ROTK movie, EE. Now I can see what all this Witch-King fighting Gandalf nonsense is about. Nothing Tolkien other than that, but I think I'll buy a certain couple of miniaturized Gondorians (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/lotr/catalog/images/faramir_damrod.gif).

I guess I could count my musical ticket .... and I was tempted to spend some of my present money on LOTR monopoly but noone would play with me I'm sure .....
Oh the radio version is wonderful ... maybe I'll do that on New Year's Day Lal ..play it all through... I wore out my original tape of the incidental music so I had to buy the Children's edition of the tapes to get it again (with Oz, wine buff Clark, singing Sam's songs as well as the Rohan laments (which were sung by Bill Nighy in the broadcasts). The Counter tenor soloist is quite well known as a member of the Hilliard Ensemble which you may have heard of Esty, since you are musical.

I'm pleased it's Oz Clark and not the barking mad Gilly Goulden (what happened to her?). :D
There's a fair old cast of stars in the radio version. Ian Holm as Frodo, Michael Hordern as Gandalf (I loved him for doing Paddington!), John Le Mesurier as Bilbo, Peter Vaughan as Denethor (fabulous actor!), Simon Cadell as Celeborn (also seen in Hi-De-Hi!), Robert Stephens as Aragorn. Oh and James Grout as Butterbur, who sounds identical in his role as the policeman in The Box Of Delights - watched that through just before Christmas, it's wonderful.

Yes.... Peter Vaughan is wonderful as Denethor ... Jack May who was Theoden was Nelson Gabriel in the Archers too ...

I was excited about getting a new page-a-day calendar (from the movies) for 2007...I had one in 2004 and 2005 and really enjoyed them. Last year I said to myself...."get a life!" enough LoTRs movie stills :p ....so I got a boring garden page a day. Hated it! :D
So..... I got excited when I saw a movie calendar page-a-day box at the mall. But when I opened it up...each page has a very large, dumb ring....smack dab in the center (with the date # inside the ring ).....365 big rings  bleah! Plus ...the pictures were rather dark and grainy...not beautiful like 2004 and 2005 calendars I had. Maybe I should look on the internet....

I'm not sure if we can advertise (and I don't work for them) - but if anyone wnats a late christmas prezzie and they haven't got it, then woolworths (in enlgand) are selling the ROTK extended edition for £3.99. Bargain!
Almost bought one (even though I've got it) cos my 8 year old keeps nicking my copy to watch on his dvd player!
PS - I got nothing LOTR related, but my boy got a load of Games Workshop figures (inlcuding the Mumakil at £50 for a bit of plastic! ) that I'm having to put together and paint for him...........

Well technicly I didn't get it for Christmas because I don't get presents at all for Christmas :D But for a Dutch very simulair thing called Sinterklaas (click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas for more information)
I got Unfinished Tales, including a Tolkien quiz book (with over 1000 questions  ) and The History Of Middle Earth volumes 1, 2 and 3, so that means The Book Of Lost Tales pt. 1 and pt. 2 and The Lays Of Beleriand.
