I know I'm computer illiterate but I simply can't get an avatar to work. Please look at what I am typing in to my profile and let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Your problem is that geocities doesn't allow linking. Look at this thread (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=001137) for some ideas on finding an avatar.
