Wisdom may have its bounds, but stupidity can be infinite. smilies/rolleyes.gif
I personally didn't think it was that bad, just...a little odd. Maybe one of their members was a Tolkien fan and liked the name.

Yes, just like the lyrics in some Led Zeppelin songs, and just like a good many band names and songs are taken from/influenced by works of literature, films etc (Duran Duran and Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights, for example).
I don't see any problem with them using a play on words influenced by Tolkien's works as their name (copyright issues aside). What is rather sad, however, is their rather inflated opinion of themselves:
This site celebrates the fact that in many ways Khazad Doom has become the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band their mentors, the Beatles, wrote about
Now, I haven't heard their music, but I would hazard a pretty good guess that they are probably one of the bands least deserving of that particular accolade. smilies/wink.gif

I say that we stop thinking about things like this as "copy and start thinking "tribute to tolkien" otherwise, you'll kill yourself worrying about it. smilies/wink.gif

No, tribute to Tolkien is building him a shrine in your room and offering him food and water everyday, and praying to him, and... did i say that out loud?

no shame in a shrine **looks up at her own**

I agree. I've got a little shrine of my own to the Celtic gods, and I'm considering putting up a little photo/print-out (I love you Internet!!!!) of the old Professor.

I also tghink its rather stupid, it made me laugh when i went on it (almost). Whats that thing saying FotR in the webpage credits though?

It cites FotR, therefor it's legal, and also in MOHO, quite a good name for a band. They're not doing anything wrong. I could say the same thing about some of the Fan Fictions people write and post online, which are certainly not a tribute to Tolkien.

Here's something else for you to disapprove of:
My dear Bedingfields and Blanchards. My dear Huggins's and Leatherbarrows, and Klopfensteins, and Linigars, and Gurtners, and Tompson's Sparks's, Coxes, Hermos, Wades, Caummings's, Wilsons Harts, Govins and Skeits.
"Skeatses!" shouted an elderly gentleman from the back of the pavilion.
Daniels Bedingfield's album thanks. I like it. smilies/wink.gif
EDIT: Ooh. Beren's avatar changed when I was posting. That was quite odd...

Is it Ferris Bueller's Day off? Sorry, too small to read.
Anyways, what's wrong with this band using that name? Nothing really, I say. Maybe they heard of the internet in the sixties and new that it would be big a long time after thier music careers and new that a guy named Peter Jackson would be making movies about Lord of the Rings and that it would be really popular because of the books and the movies and new that Khazad-Dum was something from Lord of the Rings and thought that they weren't going to be very popular so they should make thier name like Khazad-Dum so whenever people are searching for Khazad-Dum, their band might come up......or, er....well, maybe not. smilies/wink.gif Lol, it almost sounds as stupid as their band, but as stupid as it may be, there's nothing wrong with the name.

Yep...I know it's too small to read, but the picture of Ferris was all I really wanted.

Unfortunatly, it's legal to be stupid.
