I have heard this in th books and other places as well, and I think I need some clarification on this. I heard that Gollum used to be a Hobbit, now I know that(at least I think)Tolkien mentioned this in his books(actually I'm not quite sure on that and im not quite sure where he mentioned it eiher), but he didn't go into to much depth on it. Would someone pleae be so kind as to give me some insight on this?
Thankyou very much!

He was previously known as Sméagol.

Gandalf on Gollum's origins:
"I guess they were of hobbit-kind, akin to the fathers of the fathers of the Stoors."

These people split from the Stoors of the Shire and settled along the Gladden River where his bud Déagol found the One Ring some 2000+ years after Isildur encountered his fate.

Seagol, brother of Deagol, was a Hobbit, deformed by the One Ring after years of having it.

That poor corrupt little hobbit.

Little did he know what would happen when he killed Deagol for the ring.

Ahhh.... yesss... now its all comming back to me, geesh, when u see smeagol/gollum in the movie you wouldn't even think he was anywhere near close to a Hobbit... poor deformed fellow.
Oh, and thankyou for answering my question, appriciate it !!

Déagol was not his brother. They were just friends.
