I just read through some postings and now I wonder if Mount Doom was the only volcano in whole Middle-Earth?
Does anyone know?

i would have said yes. i have never seen or heard about other volcanoes, unless they are outside the given map, like in wastelands or something.

Meneltarma apperently was one, for at the downfall of Númenor, fire spew forth from it. Whether the 'gaping chasm' into which Maedhros threw himself was just a crack in the earth or could have been a volcano can't be said for certain I think.

You are forgetting The Lonely Mountain, it was an extinct volcano.

that's right, I completely forgot about Erebor. Maybe that's because I haven't read the Hobbit for about 2 years smilies/smile.gif

Was Dol Guldur a volcano (perhaps extinct) or is that just something I remember from a MERP scenario?

Could someone give me the reference for that?

Actually, there's a discussion about that over in the Books forum, under the Silmaril/Arkenstone topic.

Yeah, I am involved in that discussion. In that thread I argued (perhaps incorrectly) that Lonely Mountain is not an extinct volcano. I thought maybe someone had concrete proof that it is.
