I have just read about a new game that is in production. It is an online game where you can go anywhere in middle earth.

You have to choose whether to play as a hobbit, dwarf, man or elf. It was not mentioned which time period the game will be based in but I would probably guess sometime in the third age.

Once you have chosen which race your individual will play as you can create what they look like, their skills etc etc.

Excellently every elf, man, dwarf and hobbit you meet will be another person playing on their PC.

Apparently the combat is supposedly looking good as well.

One last thing, the game is based on the books and is not a movie tie in so it won't be made by the mediocore EA Games.

Bad news is its not due till 2006...

Matt

Sounds cool. But, if you have a 56k modem like me its difficult to play online games due to lag and dissconections all the time. I may have cable by 2006 though smilies/smile.gif .

Yeah my PC lacks both style and grace but I am hoping to buy a laptop some time this year.

So who would you choose to play as? Elf, dwarf, hobbit or man? Personally Rohan has always been a favourite of mine so I would have to become a Rider of Rohan.

Yes, I'm excited about it! It seems a bit like Everquest or something like that, actually. Looks great and has promise. smilies/biggrin.gif

I think I'd play an elf, although being a little hobbit would be quite fun. It's too bad you can't play an orc, though. That would certainly be interesting, no? :P

I think you can sign up for the testing of it. My brother signed us up, I believe.

I would play as a Ranger if they had them but im not sure. If they didnt i would also choose a Rider of Rohan.

I'll probably be an Elf (big surprise!), but did it say anything about areas that races were from? For example, could you choose to be an Elf from Lothlorien, as opposed to an Elf from Rivendell?

i beleive this is made by the company that produces Everquest, and Worlds of Warcraft, but i agree it does look pretty promising

a lot of companys have started comeing out with mmorpg(masivly multiplayer online role playing games) but almost none have come close to Everquest. but this ones looks like it has promise.

I must say that the Rohirrim have always been my favourites, akthough most people think they are useless. Other than they I would have to be a Ranger of Ithilien, because Faramir is so cool.

I would be either an Elf or a Ranger.

I read a review for it in my PC Gamer a while ago. It looks like it's going to be pretty fun, and the grapichs are very impressive.

I would be an Elf smilies/biggrin.gif
Would you have to pay to be able to play it? I don't know much about online games. Also, I'm pretty useless at this kind of thing because I get so terrified by the baddies and panic...and die. So, um yeah... smilies/rolleyes.gif

I think you're going to have to pay to play. I'm not sure though, I find the game's site and post it here.

Edit: Heres the site. Middle Earth Online (http://www.middle-earthonline.com/)

Edit: I also found out that it isn't coming out in 2006, it's coming out in late 2004.

Woo Woo!

And to the person who asked, you can choose which region your character comes from, so you could be an elf of Mirkwood, Rivendell, Lorien or the Grey Havens.

yes you would have to pay either a fee to sign up, a monthly fee, or both.

probably a monthly fee, which would probably be like around 14 to 18 dollars

but i'm not sure

I have already tried MMORPG's like ragnarok and MU. As a gamer, I expect it to have good graphics like World of Warcraft and FFXI where you need to team up with other characters to do quests. If I were to play it I would be a hobbit. It would be fun kicking monsters' butts with a midget character. :D I can't wait for the game to be released. :)

I read about it last year -- it looks great. I'd warn you about the price of the package though -- it doesn't look pretty.

But that's just me.
