Yes It's true. I just remembered last year, when I was walking the Freedom Trail (a tour of historic Boston sites for those not in the know) and saw the Green Dragon Inn! Apparently some of the founding fathers like Samuel Adams met there. I noticed before my mother and sister because they didn't know about the Shire.

Have you ever seen places like that. I mean actually names of ME places not just thikning you saw it that way. (there was another thread on that)

Houston, Texas has a Hobbit Cafe, a restaurant that has been here many years. The food is quite good. I haven't been there in a long time. Will have to pay a visit again and see if the movie has made any impact on the menu.

The Green Dragon, along with such standards as The Royal Oak, The Red Dragon, The Anchor and The White Hart, is one of Britain's most common pub names.

And I've been to 'Green Dragon' pub in Beverley (UK). A lovely place, looking quite old. However at that time I didn't think about LotR, only about beer.

Yep, we've got a Green Dragon in Cowley, Gloucestershire, England. It's the principle pub of a village on the boarder of woodlands and hills - VERY Shire! We also have a Bamfurlong not far from here.
