hi i was just wondering...........
if u were at a sword level, which one would it be?
if u dont use a sword...... um....... ill come up with something eventually.
level 1- ordinary steel sword.
level 2- patterned steel sword.
level 3- bronze sword.
level 4- patterned bronze sword with spell.
level 5- silver sword with two spells.
level 6- patterned silver sword with 3 spells and title of Sword Master.
please be honest. ive only just reached level 6, and that was after 17,000 years of training.

I would probably be. . . plastic. Seriously, I don't think I would be able to hold a real sword.
mystra
07-14-2002, 09:56 AM
ok....... well, there was another line of levels- can u manage wood? smilies/biggrin.gif
level -6 - have never picked up a sword in ure life.
level -5 - have started playing with a wooden stick.
level -4 - have started practising with a wooden sword.
level -3 - have registered with a Sword Master as an official Learner.
level -2 - are practising with a patterned wooden sword.
level -1 - have passed the test and are ready to train.
note: a patterned wooden sword is the sign that u are registered.
note: a Sword Master does not train u. they sometimes do, but usually they just list u as a trainer. there are proper schools for training.

i'm saying level -5. I love to fight with sticks. Me and my friends would go into the woods behind my house and fight on fallen logs. Plus i got some real training in 2 years of tae kwon do.

My brother got one of those at Medieval Times when he was, like, eight or something. We still have it, actually.

glues sword back together and runs head first into some walls
but seriously, does anybody have any expirence with lotr style weaponry?
i have a bow, and use it often in the woods behind my house, and in gym we did a unit on it, but does anyone really know how to use this stuff?

I don't know anything about weapons, but I would like to take either an archery lesson or a fencing lesson. My parents want me to take an archery lesson. I think they think it's safer.

it's a good thing the high school i'm going to has fencing lessons...
(begin fantasy)
yeah so i'm short skinny and weak, wanna make something of it?

That was funny!
Hm, let me think....I'm dying to take sword lessons!! Or archery! That'd be awesome. I like to hit my sister with basically anything, sticks do count, so yeah I'm probably -5. Go me! I got a negative!
NazgulNumberTen

don't laugh at me...
ok, back to topic, do any of you have lotr style weapons?
i have an old wooden bow and about 20 arrows, but does anyone here really have a sword or something?
piosenniel
07-14-2002, 09:52 PM
Are you speaking of two-handed swords or . . .?
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-14-2002, 09:55 PM
I wasn't laughing at you, I just thought that was funny. And what Nev said about that.
But no, I don't have any LotR style weapons, but just plain ordinary weapons, yes. Um, I think everyone has weapons, so me stating that was pretty much pointless. I can't really hit my sister much anymore though, she's sick. Some disease. (I feel bad for her, but she jokes about it) So let's see....I went from a -5 to probably about...let me check..um -6. Yeah, go me smilies/rolleyes.gif I need to take lessons. And my high school sucks, we won't have archery! Your lucky.

i took archery lessons back at camp a coupla times and got pretty good at it..thats about it though...
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-14-2002, 09:57 PM
Wait, two-handed swords? Is that like the guitars that have two necks? No probably not, I'm stupid. Or do you mean swords that you have to use two hands for.
NazgulNumberTen
07-14-2002, 09:59 PM
(wipes sarcasm from glasses)
we had an archery unit in 8th grade.
yeah, i am kinda lucky to go to the high school that i am...going...to...(worst worded sentance ever!) it's a private school where nobody knows me. good. a fresh start, free from the past...
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-14-2002, 10:03 PM
I like sentences that end like that. Mostly because that's how my own sentences end! The high school that I'm going to isn't private but I've been to a private school my whole life, so I have no idea what it's gonna be like. But if they only had archery...then I'd think that'd it would be just a LITTLE bit better. Not much, but still better.
NazgulNumberTen
07-14-2002, 10:04 PM
oh god, i had to suffer though public school for 9 years. i was in all the top level classes but compaired to me, the other kids were as dumb as a post!
Lady_Galadriel
07-14-2002, 10:05 PM
I would probably be a level -1. I have had experience with a wooden sword and plastic ones. But I'm better with long sticks and things like lightsabers. (i used to be star wars obsessed) My mom signed me and my sis up for archery lessons last year, but we missed the class on account of orchestra Uil. I hope I can get into that class soon. My high school has fencing classes, but that just seems kinda dull to me. I like archery better. (maybe because thats cause I have better aim with guns, rather than swords) My dad takes me to this desert in a nearby city a few times a month and he teaches me how to shoot different guns. It's really fun.
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-14-2002, 10:12 PM
Lady Galadriel, that does sound fun. Everyone here is so lucky! I get stuck in stupid retarded stupid school that offers nothing good and you people get schools that offer archery and fencing and all that kinda stuff!
nn10, that's funny! (what, is that my phrase for the day?! Oh well.) At my old school, private school I'll add again, people were as dumb as a post! Only a few (woohoo, I'm included) were not as dumb as a post. Only a FEW! It's so pathetic, some people in my class would take 5 minutes to decide what the answer was to 9x7!

oh and just to make you feel worse, my school has an equestrian team too smilies/biggrin.gif

Equestrian team?! nn10, yes, you have made me feel worse! Well, when I have kids, no way will they have to suffer in going to the schools I went/are going to. Equestrian team...ha! My school couldn't even afford a piece of plastic!
What would be harder though, archery or sword fighting?
NazgulNumberTen
07-14-2002, 10:26 PM
hmmmm i say archery, it's more of a mental thing.
(flips through high school papers, tring to find something to make lothiriel feel even worse. the stops and wonders "whats the point?")
Lothiriel Silmarien
07-14-2002, 10:30 PM
Yeah good point. A sword is probably easier, unless it's really heavy.
Oh you can't make me feel worse, but you can try if you'd like! You probably live in a bigger town, therefore better schools. The people at the high school I'm going to are practically all on drugs. I would have said something else, but the Barrow wight would have definelty said something about it.. smilies/evil.gif

please be honest. ive only just reached level 6, and that was after 17,000 years of training.
well im quite lost as to what thats on about. do u mean in Role Playing on the net or what?
The only time Ive really held a sword is when i used to do fencing, and i guess foils dont count. They can really hurt tho.
Amanaduial the archer
07-15-2002, 07:05 AM
oh ive got it! my friend does ceremonial sword fighting so i have held a sword! bleedin heavy twas as well, medieval type jobby...
If youre using that type of sword versus a traditional longbow, Id quite honestly take a longbow anyday!
Cimmerian
07-15-2002, 07:17 AM
I agree with Aman, all this must be inside your head, Mystra..what the heck are patterned swords.. Steel swords are always better than bronze or silver ones.
The levels you mention are from which log?
In role play you usueally rise is warrior level codes and not swords...like
Pheasant
Militia
Man at arms/ranger
short swordsman/archer
long swordsman/crossbow-archer
two handed swordsman/thumbringed longbowman
champion/arbalest
and so on to paladin/archers in the eye
or mercenary
depending on your alliances.
I'll take a steel sword with double edges and swiveling neck anyday.
The-Elf-Herself
07-15-2002, 09:53 AM
Levels, levels... Uh, what level would fencing be? I've taken it for three years, and I'm pretty good. Though you're right Amanaduial, those foils can really hurt. I probably wouldn't trust myself with anything more dangerous than a wooden sword; fencing is very different from actually WIELDING a steel sword.

my cousin collects swords, and he lets be borrow some to stab trees like im Aragorn in the woods, so Id have to be a 2-
mystra
07-15-2002, 03:26 PM
ok.... in neremorn bronze is higher than steel- its a fancy sort of metal- its different...
as to me having taken 17,000 years to train to level 6, i have mental problems. dont worry about that.
patterned swords are a bit like arwen having runes on her sword- just a swirly pattern, etc. rather than runes- although sword masters can get runes if they wish.
cimmerian- u mean peasant rather than pheasant right??? smilies/biggrin.gif
i'll do archery levels at some point... and warriors i spose...
fencing can be counted as sword fighting- wateva it corresponds to.
The-Elf-Herself

If fencing counts, then I'm probably either a -1 or 1. I could most likely handle a steel sword, but I'm not sure...

What on earth are you guys talking about I am so confused!!!
Gayahithwen
07-17-2002, 02:39 AM
63.
Oh, thats the answer to 7*9.. GO MEEE!! *ahem*
I would probably be -5, because me and a friend was practising with sticks (the almost looked as swords) in school some years ago.. We had quite a little show, where we would look as trying to hit the other, but never hurt eachother for real (except hitting eachother on the thumbs.. those sticks where rather short). Swinging the sword over the head, at the same time as my friend ducked.. then he tried to hit my legs, so I had to jump.. that sort of thing.. Though, we were only doing it for fun and had to stop when someone of our teachers saw it..
We was actually trying to be "stunt men".. ok, I know it sounds ridicoulus, but this happened for 4 years ago, so.. smilies/tongue.gif
Anyway, we used to stumble around the school, trying to fall as convincing as possible.. once when I jumped/fell down from a tree, my teacher actually thought I was seriously injured, so I had to tell her about out game.. smilies/tongue.gif
Wish I could take fencing/archery lessons.. I'll talk with dad about it. smilies/smile.gif Wish me good luck!
(looks around, then realiuses someone of her clones has stolen her sanity again)

I've used a plastic sword before, so would that count as a -4?
You don't know how lucky you guys are. I go to a public school and are extra curriculum is art, photography, journalism, choir, band, orchestra, and a few other things. It is limited, and they want to limit us even more! I wish I could take archery lessons, but my parents would never let me. Besides, I don't know if they offer them where I live. :(
mystra
07-17-2002, 02:26 PM
plastic probably would count, but its sposed to be wood- plastic dont exist in neremorn! smilies/biggrin.gif just count it as wood's equivalent.
Ithaeliel
07-17-2002, 02:27 PM
Here's longbow levels I could dream up...:
1- Never seen a bow in your life
2- Have seen archers at Warwick Castle (or some live archery tourney)
3- have tried archery but never hit the target and you hurt someone
4- Can usually hit the target
5- can get a bullseye (or close to it)
6- Can shoot well from different positions
7- Can shoot from horseback
8- Archery comes naturally however you do it and have a grey, engraved and strong yew bow with elven-hair bowstring
For me, I'm probably level 4 or 5
About the school thing- Our state legislature is cutting the budget for public schools. Can you believe that??? Now the music and art programs might be cut! It's so unfair! It's incredible!!!! And you guys complain about not having archery classes or fencing! No guilt trips here, but it's just... unfair. It's blasphemy.

My Longbow level wound have to be 4-5.Something like that.
The swords...well does fencing count?Never held a sword only the foils.
Well.. I'm still not sure what fencing would count as, but I'd say my sword level is about... maybe a -3? -2? I'm not sure. My longbow level is about a 5; a friend of mine has a bow and arrows (that I regularly lose! smilies/biggrin.gif) And we use them to practice.

Ha! Public schools are a joke! In my advanced high school geometry class this year, I never turned in a worksheet and I never did the tests because she didn't grade them anyway. I threw my blank worksheets in the trash can at the end of every period and still came away with a 97. Where my teacher pulled that number from I have no idea... We can't even afford to hire a language teacher, much less anything extra. Ithaeliel, I feel your pain.
We have bows and arrows at home, but they are the modern hunting kind with plastic feathers and metal shafts, and they are all way too strong for me to use.
nn10, an equestrian team!?! I am so jealous! *twitches uncontrollably and mutters about the unfairness of it all* smilies/wink.gif

just compare fencing to swords. if u have an epee, or woteva, that is bronze and patterned
and has one spell, then u would be level 4.

Ok, the levels for swords have me way confused. Anyhoo, someone asked if anyone had a sword. I do. Unfortunately it's good for hanging on the wall, not designed for combat (I'll get a combat ready blade as soon as my next federal tax return comes back in another 8 or so months).
Instead of asking about sword-levels, someone should ask about knowing any sword handling techniques. Fencing is one technique, used for blades that are slender and flexible, such as a rapier and other blades still in use by the gentry of the renaissance period, after the use of anything but a very light armor had gone out of style (and practicallity with the increased advent of fire-arms). However fencing does little good for weapons used FOTR, the weight of the weapons and techniques used to weild them are vastly different.
As far as the archery level goes I'd be around a 4, thanks to having a 20LB. fiberglass recurve as a kid.

Mystra - Well, if you're birdbrained(pheasant) enough.. have a blast.
smilies/evil.gif
Bronze, Gold and Silver are more malleable than steel, hence softer metals. Steel is a amalgam of other metals. Barbarian longswords are the ultimate weapons for sword play. Heavy, double edged and delivers a killing blow everytime, if you can lift it.
