You have no idea! I LOVE Gollum. He's my fav character. I've liked him ever since I read The Hobbit back in sixth grade.

I love how cute Gollum is in the movie! It just goes to show how different people can read the same thing and come up with something completly different. Just look at the cartoon version.

Spelling, people, spelling.
And Punctuation.
And grammar.

I like Gollum in the film, and in the book he was OK, but not the best (Treebeard stole my heart as soon as I read his first speech and has had it ever since). smilies/smile.gif

Also, you might want to check out the Gollum Fanclub Thread (http://forum.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=17&t=000191), even though it was closed. smilies/smile.gif

Gollum is one of my favorite characters. However, I would think twice about calling him cute. Hmm....Gollum..cute?!?!?
Just look at the cartoon version.

Well, I prefer animated to cartoon, but which one were you talking about. I like the one in Ralph Bakshi's film, but not the other ones, except for PJ's film. His gollum was ok. But I have to say that the book truly has the best version of Gollum in my opinion, after all, that's where Gollum came from.

Well, I prefer animated to cartoon,

I supose I agree with you, but at the beginning, when the hobbits are jumping around and gandalf just arriving, it fits what I would call a cartoon.

I love Gollum too. He was a very tragic character. I think they did a great job with him in the movie.

I love Gollum! As you can see by my username and even by my pic.
He is the reason I started to get into Lord of the Rings when I read the "Riddles in the Dark" chapter(best chapter ever). I only read it for the riddles at first but then I just kept reading more and more and liked Gollum so much I read the whole book...and then it goes on from there. smilies/smile.gif Gollum/Smeagol rules.

You all only think that cause you haven't had a chance to smell him. I bet he puts the F in F-U-N-K. Fish breath anyone??

But for those that are compelled to like him because of his character - why? Is it pity? Is it seeing your own personal struggles or faults mirrored back at you? Is it the love of borderline personalities - living on the fringe as it were? Or do you just love the way he talksess and (thanks to PJ) his big doe eyes?

like gollum? no.
i dont really think any of you like him. i think you pity him (i do). he is a very tragic character, and you cant help feeling sorry for him. its not his fault the ring ensnared him. so he was weak, but does it really matter? he was a carefree hobbit, how could he possibly defy the ring.
i think everybody actually pities him, because he didnt want to be the villain, he just had to turn out that way. tolkien sure was a genius to make us all think and think and think about all his work. gollum was one of his masterpieces

i dont really think any of you like him.

Ummm...no. I do like him and I said so. Yes, I pity him, but that doesn't mean I can't like him. Please don't believe that you could possibly know what I think. If I (and others) say we like something, don't say that we don't.

tolkien sure was a genius to make us all think and think and think about all his work. gollum was one of his masterpieces

Yes, it was a masterpiece. It is a mystery in a sense. And it is so great, so great.

You're new here, so sorry for coming down on you like that, but no one knows me better than myself. So, welcome and enjoy your stay here. smilies/wink.gif

MYyyPreciousSS, I cant see your pic. What is it?

It's the painting by Ted Nasmith where Gollum is leading Frodo and Sam through the dead marshes.
Can anyone else see my pic? (If not i'll have to try and change it.)

BTW: I know this cool Gollum related website, for those of you who havn't seen it before, http://www.gollum-online.net/ smilies/smile.gif
