View Full Version : ways to freak friends and family out with LOTR

Gamgee

I found a bunch of these on a different site, and I added some of my own, just thought these were funny. Add your own too!

When you and your parents go to bed, or when you are at a sleep over and everyone is preparing to go to sleep, pick up your flashlight and yell"The Light of Galadriel!!"

tell people how you need sword lessons(in case of Orcs)

Put the lotr soundtrack on the massive speakers and blast it out at full volume, best when done late at night, when family is trying to sleep, or when all your friends are crammed into your car.

Mutter about precious constantly and accuse your parents or friends of stealing your ring whenever it is lost.

Sneak up behind your family or friends and do your best impression of a Nazgul scream

At odd and random intervals, yell, "Frodo lives!" or "Run Frodo Run!" or various other quotes from the movie. Just slip then in in random conversations.

when ever you are served some kind of food that looks questionable, or that you hate, mutter "What is this new devilry?"

When someone asks you to get something, tell them this is an important quest and you can't do it alone, or better yet, say "I will do it! I will find the (insert item here)... although I do not know where it is."

Whenever your family, or your friends go to the beach, make them sing Legolas' song of the sea all the way there. If they don't know it, teach them line by line and make them sing it over and over again. Also sing Bilbo's traveling song on long trips.

when anyone falls and hurts themselfs yell, " Kingsfoil, we must get Kingsfoil!"

Keep imitating the frodo dance (the one that looks remarkably like the funky chicken...)

When someone asks you to pass the salt/pepper say "If you want it come and claim it!!", or if you want someone to pass it to you, yell "HAND ME THE SALT, SHE ELF!!!" (best done in a crowded resturaunt)

Start chanting Arwen's spell whenever you're mad at someone

use various stairs to re-enact that Moria scene

use your little brothers/sisters or smaller friends as dwarves, for dwarve tossing contests

Speak only in Elvish, refuse to answer to any other languge.

come up with Elvish, Dwarvish, or Hobbitish names for your friends and family, and only call them by those names.

dye your bedsheets black to complete your Nazgul costume

generally act like gollum

Quote tolkien continuously, endlessly, compare every little thing to tolkien, and, if you can't think of any link, just say "It reminds me of Numenor"

Scream out loud 'MY PRECIOUS' to your parents when they take something from you or you want something

Whenever someone wants to get in a door, stand in front of it and say "The Doors of the Lord of Moria( Can't really remember what it says) Speak, Friend and Enter."

Wear your ring and when anyone talks to you tell them, "I'm Invisible, You can't see me!!

Actually eat elevenses and second breakfast. Ask everybody else to join you

When doing improv for play tryouts, immediatly go into a scene from the movie(I.E."I ain't droppin' no eaves, sir, honest!...I heard a good deal about a ring, and a dark lord, and something about the end of the world. Please don't hurt me, sir, don't turn me into anything *gulp* unnatural.")

When people ask whats written on your ring tell them in black speech (Ash nak...) (This one really doesn't sound funny until you actuallly do it.)

Make a model of mt. doom with mashed potatoes and lots of ketchup.

Get a friend, grab a transcript, and read through the entire movie in a public place. Make sure that your Gandalf-in-Moria voice is really loud, and light something on fire for the balrog.

Whenever your parents leave the house, cry, "You need someone of intelligence on this sort of . . . mission . . . quest . . . thing!" Then jump in the car. About half way there, ask, "Where we goin'?"

Next time you get in trouble with your parents, haughtily reply to them, "Gondor has no parents. Gondor needs no parents."

Next time you are late for something, and someone yells at you, say, "I am never late. Nor am I early. I arrive precisely when I mean to."

Jump on people's backs and yell, "Noro lim, Asfaloth, noro lim!"

P.S. Pardon the length of it, but there were so many funny ones!

I've got some more about school related things, but I'll post them later, or I'll just start another thread...

These are HILARIOUS, Gamgee!!! You've got to tell me where you got them!

The really funny thing is that my little sisters already do most of this stuff (okay, so maybe I have too...). Once when my mother was angry at them they hollered, "A Elbereth, Gilthoniel" until she forgot what it was she was angry about because she was laughing so hard. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/rofl.gif

Gayahithwen

Hah! I have to try these for myself!

Although I usually takes the quote "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger" and turns it into what I need for the moment.. like in the chat some days ago.. "Do not meddle in the affairs of Gayahithwen, for she is crazy and have a huge frying pan".. *ahem* Just thought I would add that..

I have also told my dad I need archery lessons.. although not given him any reason why..

Anunia

These are so funny, Gamgee!! You have to tell me where you found them...

But... many of these wouldn't work with my parents or friends... smilies/frown.gif They didn't read LotR. So... the only one who would understand these, would be me.

Anyway... I want to read more of this.

Anunia.. Well, that is quite fun as well.. Yelling LotR things at people who won't understand it.. Like my little brother.. He has only seen the movie, but don't know anything else.. Some days ago, I locked the door in front of me and I yelled "Edro! Edro!" outside untill he opened and asked me if I was sick.. ^_^

Hehe.. These are just so fun.. Hhhhmm.. anyone remembers some quote I can tell my little brother when it's my time to have the computer?!? I at least know that when he thinks it's his turn, I'll yell "Noooo, nooo.. my preciousss!!!!!"
Ahem, actually it is his turn now, so I better leave.. ^_^I'll update with reactions later on.. smilies/smile.gif

In the summer I actually do eat elevensies (I hate breakfast food but can't wait to eat until lunch time). My parents think it's funny. I also like to slip quotes from the book or movie into conversations at opportune times, especially "My Preciousssss," but my family still doesn't get freaked out. I guess they're so used to my eccentricity that they're used to that sort of thing. I love it!

Gayahithwen

arenelendil --> the reason with all this is to make them think you're a freak.. If you are afraid of them thinking so about you, then you aren't a true Tolkien-ite! ^_^ lol, just kidding..

By the way, my brother just raised an eyebrow when I did the "my precious"-scene about the computer.. Maybe he is getting to used to me being insane.. oh well.. smilies/smile.gif

Well actually, I got them from the message boards of Ringbearer, which isn't working right now, but I saved some of the threads and I just decided to post some of them here. I don't know when Ringbearer will be back up, but I'll tell you when it is, if you would like to know...There are a lot of people who come up with Top Ten Lists and such..I only wish I could come up with some, I feel so un-creative right now... smilies/frown.gif but all is well smilies/biggrin.gif

Another one that I have done:

I took my dad's wedding ring (wich looks like the one ring) And started yelling I must throw the ring into mount doom! It is a good thing that my dad has read LOTR otherwise he might have gotten mad at me. He did make me give it back though. I called him Sauron. smilies/smile.gif

LOL! These are great. smilies/smile.gif

Here's a few that I'm infamous for:

I make up custom elvish insults, then whenever I'm mad at anyone I start mumbling them under my breath. Freaks them out every time! smilies/biggrin.gif

I translate my favorite Enya songs into quenya, and then go around the house singing the translation(as an added bonus, it's a nifty way to help me learn quenya).

Also, during the school year a couple of us Tolkien fans write our elvish names in Tengwar on every paper we have to(instead of our "real" ones). Drove our Bio teacher NUTS last year. smilies/evil.gif:

I used to take archery lessons, and after seeing the movie, I started up practicing again...I'm getting pretty good at it again! It drives my parents crazy, because I've used a few of the plants in the backyard for target practice! My humble additions...

Use the word "dwimmerlaik" in everyday conversation. For example, when someone is annoying you, don't tell them, "Go away." Say instead, "Begone, foul dwimmerlaik!"

Recite the inscription on the Ring (Ash Nazg durbatuluk, Ash Nazg gimbatul, etc...) to people, and freak them out.

Elenna
08-13-2002, 09:49 AM
Get a friend...act out the whole movie

Been there, done that. My friends and I did it on a Pittsburgh street corner. We made 7.93 because people felt bad for us and thought we were crazy homeless people doing it for money.

- Whenever somebody tries to get by you in the school hallways, scream "You SHALL NOT PASS!!!!"

- I bought a bow and arrows at a sporting goods store. When my dad asked me what it was for, I mumbled something about the servants of the Dark Lord returning to the forests of the world.

- Call your enemies dwimmerlaiks and foul beasts of Mordor. Threaten to smite them. Our terroristic threat policy says nothing about no smiting.

I'm using that against my mom, and she'll kill me! Wooooo! I also liked
'When someone asks you to pass the salt/pepper say "If you want it come and claim it!!", or if you want someone to pass it to you, yell "HAND ME THE SALT, SHE ELF!!!" (best done in a crowded resturaunt)'.

Just so everyone knows: I got grounded BIG TIME for my little "performing LOTR on street corner" escapade. My parents flipped out. They gave me the speech about "you're a very smart girl, so why do you act so stupid?" thing.

My parents are offspring of Nazgul, rodents, and the scum that floats on ponds.

Halbereth Diagona, I don't know much elvish myself, but I know there's a book called "An Introduction to Elvish" you can try. Can't remember the author though..
Gamgee, this thread is great! The problem is, most of them wouldn't work on my mum... First of all, she already knows I'm barking mad, second, she'll understand all of them and just make some smart reply... I might try them on dad though... Or my stepbrother.. Somehow I think just the fact that I can quote english books completely out of context make my classmates think I'm daft.. For some reason they seem to think that it'd be natural for norwegian people to speak Norwegian.. Odd.. I'll ahve to try out that light of Earendil on them once... :-)

Fingo
08-15-2002, 11:26 AM
I've done the replying only in Elvish thing and scared a bunch of little kids at my church. It was funny! They all ran off screaming when I started into Arwen's water summoning spell.
Also, when somebody comes to your door, answer it wearing a Nazgul cloak and holding a sword casually in your hand. It also works if you go to somebody's house dressed like that. (I FREAKED my non LOTR friends out at a sleepover one time... It was great.) Or just wear the cloak anywhere and shriek randomly.
Here's one for school. At lunch, when you want someone to take your stuff and throw it away for you, say in a pleading tone; "Take it (name of selected victim.) I'm giving it to you, take it!"
And remember to do this next time you go bowling. Say "A palantir is a dangerous tool, Saruman," while trying to cover a nearby ball and jerk in pain when you touch it. smilies/tongue.gif

LoL! I freak my dad out just by printing out the complete quenya-course from Ardalambion (http://www.ardalambion.com).. Together with some various articles about how to write in tengwar.. (Found here (http://hem.passagen.se/mansb/at/) - this excellent site is actually done by a swede.. and the other one by a norwegian! ^_^ Go scandinavia! *ahem*)
Oh, Halbereth.. Both of those are great recourses for learning more about the languages Tolkien made. I advice you not to use the grey companies translations, since they aren't real quenya or sindarin, but only loosely based on Tolkiens languages. If you still want to have a look, you can find them here: grey-company.org (http://www.grey-company.org/Circle/language/phrase.htm)
Otherwise, there is quite a lot of various elvish words and translations at the end of the Silmarillion, a great book by the great prof! (that is Tolkien, btw)

Somehow I think just the fact that I can quote english books completely out of context make my classmates think I'm daft.. For some reason they seem to think that it'd be natural for norwegian people to speak Norwegian.. Odd..
Do I recognize that behavior or what? Whenever I try to say something in english instead of swedish everybody thinks I'm weird. They also think I'm weird because I read books in english faster then they read a book in swedish. And they think I'm weird because I like LotR. So, what have I got to loose? I can quote LotR in english if I want to! After all, they can't think I'm crazier then they allready think I am.. or something.

Writing your name in tengwar and convincing your teacher that you really can put it on a pillow and then doing an awful lot of pillows with your name in tengwar on them. (I don't remember what that kind of teacher are called.. the one you get to sow with.. uuuuuhh.. ^_^) Well, that was one I did.. ^_^

Since this doesn't have anything to do with school, I'm going to add this here:

Each time a video store at the mall plays FOTR on the tvs at the windows, stand in front or next to the screens and act out each scene. Though I haven't tried it myself, it's a great way to get attention.....and a lot of weird stares.

lol, these are GOOD, Gamgee. It's quite scary. Alot of those describe me in everyday life.

I often shout "Crebain from Dunland! RUNAWAY!" when I see a large flock of birds.

I always talk about myself in the third person, and cry, 'NO, THE PRECIOUS IS LOST!" when I lose something.

I reenact the Mirror of Galadriel scene, whenever I come across a basin of water.

When watching Lord of the Rings with friends, always shout 'Gondor has no PANTS! Gondor needs no PANTS, at the appropriate moment during the Council of Elrond. And of course, 'my brother, my captain, my pants'

I have very few friends who actually understand when I do these things.

Erm...ummm...is it bad that my friends and I do all of this stuff on a regular basis? I haven't gone to "...Mayhem" yet and read the others, but I've done almost all this stuff before...

Especially the acting out part. My friends and I are always acting it out randomly in the halls. Well: we also reenacted the killing of Julius Caesar on the library steps on the Ides of March smilies/wink.gif . We did. We all brought sheets to make into togas and all had nametage (I was Cassius), and used spoons to "stab" my friend, Erin, on the library stairs.

We're also planning on having a birthday party Sept. 22 of this year for Bilbo and Frodo! I'm going to hand out cards "from" both of them to all my friends...heehee...

Oh: wanna really freak people out? Continuing on the
Quote tolkien continuously, endlessly, compare every little thing to tolkien, and, if you can't think of any link, just say "It reminds me of Numenor"
part: I do that...but then continue to complete the entire history concerning whatever it was that I was reminded of. Once I ended up telling someone the entire story of Turin...heehee...

Just tell people how many times you've seen the movie if you've seen it a lot. That generally freaks them out.

Come up with a story with your friends and talk about it publicly and LOUDLY about how, when you are all 18, you will be in your friend with the mysterious un-openable door's room (her door actually doesn't open), and, suddenly, the door will blow open. You will all enter and, unbeknowst to you, you will all be transformed into the race from ME you are at heart. You will find yourselves in the Mines of Moria, coincidentally just when the nine are fighting the Orcs. You will all have armor and weapons, and will aid the quest, then end up continuing on with Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli OR Merry and Pippin. Talk about it quite loudly for a long time period. People give you the funniest looks.

Man, there are all sorts of threads like, I met a Barrow downer. Why ask where people live? If you meet a Downer, you will be sure to know! smilies/smile.gif

Yell "Fool of a Took!!!" Whenever your parrent comes in your room without knocking first

And I've actually done this one:

Die your hair planium blond (Make sure it don't turn your hair orange, like it did Mine the first time...I have dark hair), Put all the little braid things in it Legolas has, Get a wodden bow and quiver full of arrows and refuse to go ANYWARE without it, earn up 200$ to pay your friend so she can sew you the entire Legolas outfit and pay 78$ for a pair of boots that looks like his. Then, run around the house, in school and where ever else in your costume and refuse to answer to anything but "Legolas" or "Mrs. Greenleaf" (Mr. Greenleaf if your a guy)

I've never been much at suddenly qouting lines, but I nearly always find myself yelling "Eaadro! EEEEaaadro!" at supermarket doors that don't open fast enough. (The joke is, on weekends, you have to pull them open manually. Visualize me - grunting and admitting how foolish I am and pulling the door open after waving my hands about and yelling at it for a minute or two...*heh*)

These are quite good. smilies/smile.gif
I have actually used lines in everyday conversation. On Friday, one of my friends was talking about trying to get a schedual change, and I said "You cannot just walk into the councelors office! There is evil there that does not sleep! Not with a thousand students could you do this! It is folly!" He cracked up. It was great.

And I quite enjoy aidling up to my freshmen buddy, rubbing my hands togeter and eyeing him while muttering "Fishiessssss! Fishiessss!"

The "A wizard is never late" line is great for when you're late to class.

Whenever someone comes to your door shout we don't want any well wishers, etc.. ( i cant really remember what it says. )

Also write the date in the shire instead of the date here.. It quite confuses the teachers! http://www.uniquehardware.co.uk/server-smilies/cwm/cwm/cwm27.gif
