Really an easy one
His real name was Aragorn 2nd, son of Arathorn and he was called King Elessar
and i think the translation of Strider was Tolcentar but im not sure about that

You are correct Balin!

And Telcontar was indeed the Elvish (Q) translation of Strider.

WTG!

Your turn to ask a question in this thread!

Re: A Question about Strider

In the Tale of Years 2957-80 it tells how "[Aragorn]served in disguise both Thengel of Rohan and Ecthelion II of Gondor." Earlier in Appendix A The Stewards it exlpains how he came to Gondor from Rohan where he had served king Thengel... "Thorongil men called him in Gondor, the Eagle of the Star."

Though Aragorn might well have served Thengel under the same alias, the text does not specify that he did.

dart-arrow

I think the a dart was what the nazgul used and an arrow was what the rest of the people used. I was reading in the RotK and Aragorn said that it wasn't actually a dart that got Faramir becuase he would already be dead but someone else said they thought it came from the sky so I'm not sure what it was. If I'm confusing you please feel free to not read it.

Re: dart-arrow

Hey Guys...

In relation to the "Dart-Arrow" thingie... I can give some insight into the two weapons... historically... I'm sure that everyone knows what an arrow looks like and how it's used, so I won't go into that... A dart however is similar to a javelin - not as long, with a large heavyish head (barbed) and flight like those of a hunting arrow (except quite larger, and is flung fronm the hand with a leather thong which is twisted around the shaft,(upon itself)behind the hand. This gives a greater coverage distance. Used as early as the Iron age if not earlier...

Although maybe it was a blowpipe dart...? Hmmmm

Hope this helps though...

Re: dart-arrow

I've always thought the dart may have been a blowpipe. Though swords, axes, bow and arrows seemd to bee the most common type of weapons, there were some pretty exotic bad-guys on the Pellnor that day. A blowpipe might very well have hung at the belt of many Southerner that day... or maybe even the Nazgul.

That's right. When the Witch-King overran Arthedain, Arvedui first hid in the Dwarf mines in the Ered Luin and then fled further to Lossoth. Cirdan sent ships around to save him, but the ship he was on floundered in the ice and he and the palantiri of Amon Sul and Annuminas were lost.

He tarried where?

I almost said Arvernien, because I recognized the poem, and Earnedil first was there. But that was just the beginning. He tarried from errantry in Tirion.

He tarried precisively in ELDAMAR before passing through the Calacirya to Tirion. He was told the melodies by the Teleri in Eldamar.

Re: Butter-fingers!

I remain utterly at a loss for tha answer to this question. The only other thing I remember about Dol Amroth was Legolas marking Imrahil's elvish blood. He alludes to Nimrodel and of course he had sung the lay of Nimrodel when the bereaved fellowship approached Lorien. But Nimrodel never crossed the White Mountains and Amroth drowned himself -- so I don't think they could be understood as founders of the line, except in the eponymous sense. Of course Imrahil's banner, a white swan on a blue sea seems to point back to Earendil, but you already ruled that out.
