Hi, you all!
Gee, this is the first thread I am creating. I hope it's no one like this, if that's the case, I feel truly foolish! smilies/biggrin.gif
Anyway, the game is like this:
Write two or three things- they are to hint about a place, person, creature, weapon, etc. from Middle-earth, and then it's up to you, to guess it.
EX. Small, devoted, gardner.
What, or who is this?
The answer will be of course Sam. It 'fits' the hints, description..
(I really hope it made sense.... smilies/biggrin.gif)
Okey, we'll start with this, the hints are:
Wise, great, fooled.
(It's easy..)
Good Luck, anyway..

Okey I changed the game a bit..*puts on an innocent look* In stead of two three words, make it hints. Like, one hint can be two or several words... smilies/biggrin.gif
Here are the hints:
Above the others, not above all.
(Eeek, couldn't figure out another one.. It's easy... smilies/biggrin.gif)
Good luck, anyhow..

No, neither of those.
The description "vegetarian" may be misleading. I implied it from what we hear of this character's diet. But, since that diet may have included fish and insects under certain circumstances, "omnivourous" might possibly be more accurate. smilies/wink.gif

You are correct, my dear Windlord. Beorn was the chap had in mind.
As a man, he seems to have had a vegetarian diet (I would guess that he didn't keep his servants as livestock smilies/wink.gif). In bear form, however, his diet may have been more commensurate with that of a bear, and so might well have included insects (grubs, ants and the like).
In any event, you may continue, Gwaihir. smilies/smile.gif

Fingolfin II
06-07-2004, 01:32 AM
Could it be Morgoth? I know it sounds weird, but here's my reasoning:
Burnt- the Silmarils burnt him when he put them into his Iron Crown.
Hidden- his stronghold was long hidden from the Valar before the awakening of the Elves.
Depleted- he put all his power into conquering Middle-Earth, so his own power is depleted, as he gave it all to his agents (i.e. Orcs).

The Anduin?
paavo
06-29-2004, 05:08 AM
nope but pretty close.
NightKnight
06-29-2004, 05:21 AM
Rauros?
paavo
06-29-2004, 05:39 AM
nope. it doesn't have a proper name. And you shouldn't take the hints too literally. it's not really moving even though it is "ever moving".
did this help or are you just more confused? :)
NightKnight
06-29-2004, 05:48 AM
I'm still confused. ;)
Is it a geographical place?
paavo
06-29-2004, 06:51 AM
no, it's not a geographical place.
would it help if I said that the "ever moving" comes from a song that made it to the movies and the "dangerous" part is from a clause of Bilbo.
I'm really bad at giving hints. :)
elfwishes999
06-29-2004, 01:18 PM
is it the Eye of Sauron?
paavo
06-29-2004, 01:34 PM
:) no. ok I'll make this real easy. just finish the quote. "get of the ____"
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 01:37 PM
Road!!! I was going to say that!! But I didn't think followed fit it.. But it's perfect for ever moving (road goes ever on and on...) and danger. (It's a dangerous business Frodo going out your door...)
paavo
06-29-2004, 01:51 PM
excellent Bombadil! :)
now that I think of it, followed isn't the best hint for road... well, a little challenge is always good :D
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 02:23 PM
After I look at it again though it is pretty good. The road is followed, I just interpreted the road as following something. Very riddle-like I do say. Let's see hmm...
black, swift, infamous
The Perky Ent
06-29-2004, 03:34 PM
Nazgûl
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 04:12 PM
nope
paavo
06-29-2004, 04:24 PM
maybe Ancalagon?
he was black and infamous and since he was the first of the winged dragons you could say he was swift.
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 06:38 PM
think not living
Gil-Galad
06-29-2004, 06:40 PM
Army of Dunharrow?
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 06:43 PM

Fingolfin II
06-29-2004, 06:58 PM
The palantir?
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 07:12 PM
Good answer but I couldn't see how that would match swift. Nope sorry! :D
The Perky Ent
06-29-2004, 07:17 PM
I think I gots it! The black gate?
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 07:39 PM
nope, I suppose infamous is a bad hint, since everything in Middle-Earth that's written about is infamous. It's a Weapon, and no it's not Anglachel.
The Perky Ent
06-29-2004, 07:40 PM
Sauron's mace?
Bombadil
06-29-2004, 07:51 PM
Nope. It's a weapon that's not usually black, but this thing in particular was special...
I can't believe this... black, swift, infamous... How can it NOT be Gurthang!!!
Um...
Is it the Original Grond, Hammer of Morgoth perhaps?? (not very hopeful)
OR could it be Grond, the battering ram of Mordor (even less hopeful)
The Saucepan Man
06-30-2004, 02:42 AM
The Black Arrow with which Bard shot Smaug.
aw man... i knew saucepan would get it :P
I always wondered, why on earth would a bloke like Bard carry a black arrow around with him? Also it was never specified whether the arrow was one of many, and just happened to be the last, or was the only black arrow he owned. Mayble all his arrows were black. :P
Bombadil
06-30-2004, 09:29 AM
Good point Ossë, I just always assumed it was special, because if they were all black how could he save it for last? Anyway, you're up Mr. Sauce. :D
The Saucepan Man
07-01-2004, 05:58 PM
Why thank you Mr B. :)
Next up:
Foul, Ravaging, Depleting
Rilwen Gamgee

The Saucepan Man
07-04-2004, 06:51 PM
'Fraid not.
The answer is not something that is living, although it was likely to have been caused by living things ...
Gil-Galad
07-04-2004, 10:50 PM
Could have been that Plague that wiped half of Gondors population?
The Saucepan Man
07-05-2004, 03:16 AM
It was indeed the Great Plague. Well done Gil-Galad. :)
Take it away ...
Gil-Galad
07-05-2004, 09:31 AM
it was just the Depelting thing that made me think...since it did deplete Gondors Population

Maybe the Nazgul? They wore black cloaks with hoods yet beneath their bodies were invisible. Their song could be their screech? I’m probably very off.

Gil-Galad

The place where the Green-elves lived was called Lindon, Lindon meaning Land of Song, so the Ossirian are good singers, anyway you can go now
