I“ll simply quote Gandalf, explaining to Pippin:

"See, there is the fire on Amon Dīn, and flame on Eilenach; and there they go speeding west: Nardol, Erelas, Min-Rimmon, Calenhad, and the Hailfirien on the borders of Rohan."

btw, I would have guessed their number correctly: 7.

Celegorm, Curufin and Caranthir were slain in the assault on Doriath. It is not clearly stated in The Silmarillion which one fell first, but I assume it was Celegorm because he is also stated first. Maedhros, Maglor, Amrod and Amras all died later.

Lomion, meaning Child of the Twilight. I assume it fits because he was born of the Dark Elf, Eol, and he grew up in the Moriquendi's forest stronghold, which was hidden from the sun.

Re: Isildur Question

Good job, I was looking for a little more explanation, meaning his hand was bitten off by Charcharoth while Beren was fetching a Silmaril from Morgoth so he could wed Luthien, but that'll do.
I'd say having anything bitten off the Hound of Hell would hurt to... probably like hell...
At any rate, enough of bad jokes... ask!

Re: A quote

Elenna, a Quenya name for the isle of Nśmenor, was given to those Edain who fought bravely in the War of Wrath against Melkor as a reward.
"Elenna" means "starwards", because on their journey to Nśmenor, the Edain followed Čarendil high up in the sky. One could also assume that it hints on the geographical form of the island, which looks like a five-pronged star.
Right?

Re: A quote

Beleriand is correct, but what name does Nan-tasarion have on the map (Sindarin form), and, well, the Ent-wives, could be, but it“s not explicitly there...someone else said it when the two of them departed...

Re: A quote

Nan-tasarion, Sindarin: Tasarinan, also Nan-tathren. I'm damned if I know who vowedto meet there. I associate it with Tuor and Celebrindal (and with Earendil). I dont reember a passage about meeting.

Re: A quote

It“s in TLOTR:
"Then in the willow-meads of Tasarinan we may meet in the Spring. Farewell!"
Since Nan-Tathren is correct, I“ll provide you with the hint that this farewell is in the appropriate chapter - "Many partings".

Right, right, now I see. But I won't pretend to have answered it.

Re: A quote

Hmmm...close, so very close...well, I“ll give it to you.

Celeborn said that they will mett again, but it was in fact Galadriel who said that they will meet in Nan-Tathren specifically.
But since you will say "Galadriel" as soon as I post that Celeborn is wrong anyway, you can go ahead.
Although half of the credit goes to Galpsi, who answered the first part... tricky one for the judge... Go on, whoever has a good one.

Nay, it“s just that as soon I would have told you Celeborn was wrong, you would have realized it was Galadriel.

I didn't have a clue. I mean I got it after your hint but I didn't see the point of answering it then. Let Kittle ask or ask yourself.

Just a little Robert Plant up there...
Now this is a fine old thread and since nobody seems to be using it...
What were the first words Pippin "heard" when he looked in the Palantir of Orthanc?

Sauron, thinking he was addressing Saruman, said something along the lines of;
