I'm gonna try and make more understandable rules
1. state how many questions you are goning to have(it has to be odd)
2. when you get to last question only the people who have points may anwser it
3. the little questions must ALL be in common with the main anwser
there i hope these are good enough
1. Who sacked the mountain?

Happy birthday, Gil. smilies/smile.gif
OK, I've deleted my previous post, so as not to cause confusion. Here are the rules for this game:
The question setter asks no more than six questions, specifying at the outset how many questions there will be (this should be re-stated with each new question to remind people). These initial questions should be relatively straightforward, although they might take a number of different forms (straight trivia, riddle, cryptic etc ). Once these initial questions have been answered, one final question is asked. Only those who have answered one or more of the initial questions may answer this final question (you should identify who may answer when asking the question). The answers to each of the questions must be connected in some way to the answer to the final question. The first person to answer the final question correctly continues with the next set of questions.
Gil, was Arestevana correct with Smaug?

I hope I am allowed to answer. I believe I recieved a point for the first question, though I have no idea how you got 'Estra' out of my name, Gil. smilies/wink.gif
I think the answer is:
Dwalin, Balin, Fili, Kili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur. In short, the company of fourteen, bar Thorin Oakenshield. Unless of course you were referring to another event.

Why the dead silence? smilies/rolleyes.gif Yes, it's cryptic.
The first part is a straight clue, and the last part needs solving. (some assembly required smilies/biggrin.gif )
Gil-Galad
12-24-2003, 12:14 PM
hint maybe?
Arestevana
12-29-2003, 12:40 PM
The words Old Igloo Renovation Director are not a direct clue. Use 'first' and 'craziest' to get the rest of the clue out of those words. So you should end up with 'I am the daughter of _____'. Good luck.

Gil-Galad
12-29-2003, 06:19 PM
you can join,... my guess would be Aredhel, daughter of Fingolfin, since Fingolfin lived in Hithlum, which was to the north... and Fingolfin granted land to teh edain in Dor Lomin
Finwe
12-30-2003, 03:59 PM
My guess would be Luthien, daughter of Thingol, who was the first High King of the Sindar, rather crazy to boot, and "renovated" a cave to make Menegroth.
Arestevana
01-01-2004, 11:08 AM
Telchar-2
Elrond of Rivendell- 1
For those who don't understand:
the first letter of the words 'Old Igloo Renovation Director', moved around, spell Dior, whose daughter was Elwing.
Question 4:
A gift of light
From the lady bright
The morning that passes away.
To break will of night
watching straight, left, right;
That evil the bearer might stay.

Last Question; only those with points may answer.
Question 5: Who traveled with Daeron to the Mereth Aderthad, and by whom was this person killed?
Finwe
01-02-2004, 12:13 PM
Mablung of the Heavy Hand, and he was slain by the Dwarves in the assault on Menegroth.
Arestevana
01-02-2004, 05:03 PM
Correct, Finwe. Now, can you tell me the common theme?
Finwe
01-03-2004, 10:37 PM
They or their makers were in Doriath at some point or the other.
Elwing lived in Doriath for a time.
Galadriel, the maker of the Phial of Earendil, stayed with Melian, in Doriath, for a while.
Mablung was from Doriath, and was a marchwarden.
Arestevana
01-05-2004, 02:47 PM
Please continue, Finwe. While not the answer I had in mind, yours is certaintly correct. smilies/smile.gif
Finwe
01-05-2004, 02:54 PM
All right. Here goes:
I'm going to have 5 questions. Here is the first one:
1) Elves were generally a happy race, although there were plenty who had slightly suicidal tendencies. Give me the name of the Elf who laughed, who was sibling to the Elf who challenged, and died.
Firefoot
01-05-2004, 07:37 PM
Lalaith who was the sibling of Turin who challenged either Glaurung the dragon or his sword Gurthang.
<font size=1 color=339966>[ 8:43 PM January 05, 2004: Message edited by: Firefoot ]
Oh wait, nevermind. I'm getting confused again - Lalaith and Turin aren't Elves they're men. smilies/tongue.gif I knew I was doing too well at remembering names to be true! smilies/biggrin.gif smilies/biggrin.gif

Fingolfin and Feanor...?
Finwe
01-07-2004, 06:38 PM
Oh you're quite close with that last one, you definitely have one of the siblings right.
Firefoot
01-07-2004, 06:46 PM
Finarfin and Fingolfin?
Finwe
01-07-2004, 06:51 PM
Nope. I'll give you a hint: One of the siblings in question is female.
NightKnight
01-08-2004, 01:18 PM
Hmm, neither Fingolfin nor Feanor had a sister...
Gil-Galad
01-08-2004, 04:35 PM
Finrod and galadriel?
Finwe
01-08-2004, 06:31 PM
Ah, NightKnight, they didn't in The Silmarillion...
HINT: Look in The Shibboleth of Fëanor.
NightKnight
01-09-2004, 09:08 AM
And what is that?
Finwe
01-09-2004, 06:18 PM
Ok... it is one of the lesser known works of Tolkien. I believe it is found in the book, Peoples of Middle-earth (part of the HoME series). If you don't have it, or don't have access to it, try doing a Google search. Those always work. smilies/wink.gif
NightKnight
01-10-2004, 04:52 AM
That might explain why I haven't heard of it. smilies/tongue.gif
Firefoot
01-11-2004, 08:21 PM
After an extensive Google search, I think I have it. Is it Lalwende, sister of Fingolfin?
Finwe
01-12-2004, 07:11 PM
Yes indeed it is.
Firefoot -- 1
2.) The Elf who challenged had a rather disputed youngest, who was noble to be sure. Name that youngest.
Gil-Galad
01-13-2004, 04:24 PM
Fingon?
Finwe
01-13-2004, 07:47 PM
Nope. You got the oldest. smilies/wink.gif
Thorongil
01-14-2004, 06:44 AM
Turgon?
Finwe
01-14-2004, 06:27 PM
Nope.
HINT: He's really disputed. So disputed in fact, that not many people even know that he exists, or that he's the youngest son.
Elrond of Rivendell
01-14-2004, 06:45 PM
As Firefoot, I also needed an extensive Google search to come across Argon. May it be him that you are looking for? smilies/biggrin.gif
Greetings,
EfR
Finwe
01-14-2004, 10:07 PM
Right you are!
Firefoot -- 1
Elrond of Rivendell -- 1
3) There is one, descended from the father of the one who challenged, who keeps changing from the grandson of the challenger to the grandnephew or great-grandnephew of the challenger. Name this star of Elvendom.
(rather easy one there)
Thorongil
01-15-2004, 01:38 AM
Since you said star, could it be Earendil?
The Saucepan Man
01-15-2004, 07:56 AM
Or Gil-Galad, perhaps? smilies/wink.gif
Finwe
01-15-2004, 08:55 AM
As usual, Saucy is right!
Firefoot -- 1
Elrond of Rivendell -- 1
Saucepan Man -- 1
4) Brother of the challenger, sun-like not-oldest, father of heroes, my daughter married and her line united with Hope's line.
Elrond of Rivendell
01-15-2004, 10:15 AM
Finarfin, father of Finrod and Galadriel?
Finwe
01-15-2004, 06:22 PM
Right-o!
Firefoot -- 1
Elrond of Rivendell -- 2
Saucepan Man -- 1
Ok. Last question here, and only those with points can answer.
5) Part fire I am, mauled I have been, set free I have been, burned I have been. Which illustrious warrior am I?
Gil-Galad
01-16-2004, 08:27 AM
well i have a guess at the awnser, but i can't anwser
Finwe
02-04-2004, 10:58 PM
*bump* Come on! I'm sure that one of you guys knows the answer. Saucy, what happened to that devilishly sharp wit?
Firefoot
02-18-2004, 09:00 PM
Could it be Sauron? I dunno, it's the only thing that comes to mind, but I'm not sure where burned fits in. Do you have a hint or something?
Finwe
02-18-2004, 09:14 PM
I'll give you a hint:
HINT: He was left-handed.
Fingolfin II
03-05-2004, 04:32 AM

Fingolfin II
03-05-2004, 07:47 PM

The Perky Ent
03-25-2004, 07:58 PM
The days have gone donw in the west. I'm reviving this thread. Please read the rules before you post! There will be 5 Questions!
Question 1
I thought i would be the first, but i was hit with a sad blow when i heard the truth. Who am i?
Firefoot
03-25-2004, 08:09 PM
Fëanor?
The Perky Ent

Question 2
My brother's were in the power of kings, yet my brother's left them for others. Who (what) am I?
(what) is foreshadowing!
Fingolfin II
04-02-2004, 05:13 AM
The Easterlings?
Fingolfin II
04-04-2004, 10:51 PM
Hey Perky, any confirmation? I think I'm probably wrong because of the second clue [(what) is foreshadowing!], but it'd be nice too know :).
Fingolfin II
06-25-2004, 06:30 PM
I'll be asking 5 questions, of different types (i.e. riddles, straight questions, etc.). Anyone can answer the first four questions, but only those with points can answer the last one. The one who answers the last question correctly gets to set the next set of questions if they can correctly guess the theme.
I've been babbling for long enough; here's the first question-
1. Please tell me who is an Elven lore reteller of nice demeanour.
Gil-Galad
06-28-2004, 01:12 PM
Elrond?
NightKnight
06-28-2004, 04:45 PM
Rumil the Loremaster?
Fingolfin II
06-28-2004, 10:47 PM
Gil-galad- 1
The first letter in each word of that sentence spelt 'Elrond' :).
2. Less loved than the Faithful Jewel; read into the minds of Men yet did not scorn them as fools.
NightKnight

Faramir?
Fingolfin II

3. He was the most reluctant to leave,
To no home would he cleave.
Through water and fire
He befriended the halflings of the Shire.
Seemingly the weakest,
He united all the meekest,
And was the last to come,
Sent by the mightiest under the One.
Gil-Galad
06-29-2004, 06:58 PM
good ol' Gandalf?

4. A cat, a rabbit, an aardvark, an iguana, falcon, beaver, a Thorondor.
The order of these is correct, yet they should be taller. Arrange these properly, and use the letters to find the name of a famous traveller.
Good luck ;).
Gil-Galad
06-30-2004, 07:48 AM
A cat, a rabbit, an aardvark, an iguana, falcon, beaver, a Thorondor.
charagoth? that wolf who ate the silmaril? can't spell sorry
Fingolfin II
06-30-2004, 11:58 PM
Nope- arrange them in a suitable order, and see what's spelt. The animals have no relation to each other, it's the letters.
Fingolfin II
07-05-2004, 03:58 AM
No one? I'll give you a major hint, just look below:
AZFXDOSLMYNPQARTS
RRFGSEDRTVUIFQMBNI

NSDGGVBORDMSDMFTA
ASXQZERELRONSAOSDI
ASLDSESZAZCYAEIORS
WATUCISCCOOPNDSSF

HEYAMSUPGANDASTARI
Just arrange the hints in an appropriate manner and solve!
Gil-Galad
07-05-2004, 09:28 AM
Odorf? i mean Frodo...heh
Fingolfin II
07-05-2004, 05:02 PM
No, no, no; that was just a hint of how to arrange the clues. I put Frodo in there as an example- that find-a-word isn't the one which the answer is hidden in. The clues (i.e. an aardvark, etc.) form the find-a-word, and then you have to find this famous traveller. Please show me how you got the answer also when you get it :).

And my answer is Fili.
