Gil-Galad

this game is really easy to understand
you write two names down and you have to give a connection from book OR movieit can be differences, silmarities, anything that they have in common! If they still don't get it, then narrow it down more

Legolas -- rode without saddel on -- arod -- from rohan ?

Perhaps a clarification of the rules would be in order?

Gil-Galad

Telchar has it!!!

Telchar

OK - I'll start with a simpel one to give this game a chance.

Gandalf --> X <--Turgon

And on a sidenote to all of you, but mostely to Gil-galad: The question before was ridiculous! There can be a great deal of connections between Legolas and Rohan*. I belive it would be a good idea, to try to post questions that has an answer, opposed to posting questions where you want those answering to guess what you think the answer is (or want it to be).

* Some possible connections between Legolas and Rohan:

He were in Rohan
He fought for Rohan
He rode a horse from Rohan
He made friends in Rohan
He met the king of Rohan
etc . etc. ... there a ALOT.

The fact that he rode without saddel is NOT a connection between him and Rohan but a connection between him and horses in general.

Similar would be to ask what the connecton between Frodo and Gandalf was, and then keep people guessing until they found out that you wanted someone to guess that: They both liked watching Bilbo blowing smokerings in hiss garden...

... sorry I had to get that out! smilies/rolleyes.gif

well.. i was about to change my rules to that if people don't get it, try too narrow it down more specifically, and for your question

Gandalf and Turgon both used the same sword, Glamdring

Some possible connections between Legolas and Rohan

Except that Gil-Galad asked for a connection between Legolas and a horse of Rohan.

It is quite often the case, in many of the games here, that there are a number of possible answers to a question.

There are a number of possible connections between Gandalf and Turgon too, such as they both ended up in Valinor or they both benefitted from the service of Eagles. smilies/tongue.gif

Although I suspect that Gil-Galad has the correct answer. smilies/smile.gif

Except that Gil-Galad asked for a connection between Legolas and a horse of Rohan.

Sorry, I'll just have to remind you Saucepan Man that Gil-galad have edited his question post twice, first the day after the original question was posted and then again 3 days after that.
The original question was af far as I remember it: Legolas -> Rohan.
Im sorry for not noticing that - I usually dont reread the whole thread every time I enter it.

Secondly, alot of people ended up in Valinor and alot of people had servitude of the eagles, and though they both are valid connections between G and T, then only two people carried Glamdring - which of course is why Gil-galad is correct, and can continue.

Cheers T

for your information Telchar, the two edits you see were me adding on to the rules, i started with Legolas-------------------------------Horse of Rohan

OK. Enough discussion. On with the game. Gil-Galad, it's your turn, I believe ...

Aragorn------Imrahil

Telchar
12-14-2003, 05:36 AM
They both had elvish blod in their veins?

Gil-Galad
12-14-2003, 11:35 AM
correct!, or clsoe enough my answer was that Legolas both saw them with elvish blood, but you can go!

Telchar
12-14-2003, 04:44 PM
Elrond - Aldarion

Gil-Galad
12-20-2003, 02:21 PM
hint?

Telchar
12-21-2003, 06:40 AM
HINT: It has to do with a third person

Gil-Galad
12-21-2003, 11:36 AM
both related to aragorn?

Finwe
12-21-2003, 02:12 PM

Ah, ok.

Hurin --> Fëanor

Telchar
12-24-2003, 05:43 AM
They both met Turgon?

Gil-Galad
12-24-2003, 12:09 PM
they both were over come by balrogs?

Finwe
12-24-2003, 04:04 PM
Nope.

Telchar
12-27-2003, 08:38 AM
They both cursed Morgoth

Finwe
12-27-2003, 03:49 PM
You're on the right track.

Heni
12-30-2003, 05:24 PM
Both prisoners in Angband? Captured by Morgoth?

Finwe
12-31-2003, 04:54 PM
Oooh.... very close with that second guess.

Em
12-31-2003, 05:20 PM
Ignoring the fact that Heni came very close, i think i may have found a connection:
Hurin called Thalion the steadfast, the strong, son of Galdor, husband of Moewen and father of Turin and Nienor; lord of Dor-lomin, vassel of Fingon-
Fingon, the eldest son of Fingolfin-
Fingolfin, half brother of Feanor.
i'm not exactly sure how this game works, but if you don't beieve me, look in the index of The silmarillion, pages 396 and 404.

Finwe
01-01-2004, 12:56 PM
Nope. Sorry. I'll give you guys a BIG hint.

HINT: Curses.

NightKnight
01-01-2004, 02:08 PM
Their families were cursed?

Finwe
01-01-2004, 02:13 PM
RIGHT!!!!!! It's NightKnight's turn!

NightKnight
01-02-2004, 06:46 AM
Whoops, that means I have to come up with something...:P

Galathil -------- Beren

Ruitha
01-02-2004, 11:10 AM
Their children were married?

Sorry, I'm new to this, not sure if that counts as something in common or not. smilies/wink.gif

Finwe
01-02-2004, 12:05 PM
Their children married each other.

NightKnight
01-05-2004, 08:29 AM
That was what I was looking for...please go on. smilies/smile.gif

Finwe
01-05-2004, 09:55 AM
Hmmm...

Finarfin -> Arwen

Gil-Galad
01-05-2004, 05:24 PM
they both didn't go on a journey across teh sea?

The Saucepan Man
01-05-2004, 06:27 PM
OK, I'll go for the obvious. Finarfin's daughter was Arwen's grandmother (making Finarfin Arwen's great grandfather, I suppose).

Finwe
01-07-2004, 06:42 PM
Haha! Nice try, Saucy. Unfortunately, that isn't the answer.

HINT: It has to do with something they did, or didn't do. smilies/wink.gif

Gil-Galad
01-08-2004, 04:34 PM
They both refused to journey across the great sea, or go with their relatives to battle

Finwe
01-08-2004, 06:31 PM
You're on the right track with your second guess.

NightKnight
01-09-2004, 09:09 AM
Neither followed their brothers over the Sea?

Gil-Galad
01-09-2004, 04:55 PM
both of their fathers fought aganest the dark lord

Finwe
01-09-2004, 06:16 PM
Nope. I'll give you a hint:

HINT: It has to do with their fates.

Gil-Galad
01-09-2004, 09:49 PM
They both died a mortal way..?

Finwe
01-10-2004, 01:08 PM
Nope.

Heni
01-10-2004, 05:13 PM
Ok...I`m taking a guess.

Finarfin stayed in Valinor when his half-brother Fëanor led the host of Noldor back to Middle-Earth, and became King for those Noldor who remained also with Finarfin.

Arwen stayed in Middle Earth instead of taking the ships to Valinor, and became Queen of the Reunited Kingdom.

Finwe
01-10-2004, 06:54 PM
Nope.

The person who came the closest was NightKnight, with that "brothers" guess. Hold onto that thought, and look at my last hint.

NightKnight
01-11-2004, 04:08 AM
They chose a different fate than their brothers?

Finwe
01-11-2004, 07:52 AM
Right! Your go.

NightKnight
01-11-2004, 01:46 PM
Gandalf --- Glorfindel

Finwe
01-11-2004, 01:49 PM
They both died fighting a Balrog, so that their companions could escape to safety, and then were "sent back" to help fight against Sauron.

NightKnight
01-12-2004, 11:05 AM
Wow, that one was better than mine. smilies/eek.gif My connection was that both of them threw down a balrog from a mountain, but you can continue. smilies/smile.gif

Finwe
01-12-2004, 07:14 PM
smilies/biggrin.gif

Erendis and Anairë.

Ruitha
01-16-2004, 12:13 PM
Okay, no-one seems to have attempted this, so I'll take a guess. Both were separated from their husbands when they (the husbands) went away over the Sea?
Ah no, wait, Fingolfin went over mountains ... sooo ... when their husbands went to Middle-earth?

Finwe
01-18-2004, 08:50 PM
That is very true, but not the answer that I'm looking for.

Lalaith
01-19-2004, 07:44 AM
Their daughters were both tomboys?

Finwe
01-19-2004, 08:15 AM
Close. Very close.

Lalaith
01-19-2004, 10:25 AM
Both they and their daughters seperated from their husbands?

Ruitha
01-19-2004, 10:42 AM
Both had daughters that married against their will?

Finwe
01-19-2004, 01:43 PM
Nope.

Thorongil
01-27-2004, 04:07 AM
Both their daughters married people they didn't like.

Finwe
01-27-2004, 10:55 AM
Nope.

HINT: It's about their daughters themselves.

Burzdol
01-27-2004, 12:06 PM
They dissaproved of marrage?

Finwe
01-27-2004, 07:44 PM
Nope. I'll repeat it, it has to do with their daughters themselves, marriage involves another person.

Thorongil
01-28-2004, 04:47 AM
Both their daughters lived separately from their mothers?

Ruitha
01-28-2004, 06:11 AM
Both their daughters were quite wilful - they made their own decisions, etc...?

Finwe
01-29-2004, 11:30 AM
Ruitha has it!

Your go.

Ruitha
01-30-2004, 10:54 AM
Okay ... Finduilas, of Dol Amroth, and Aredhel.

Gil-Galad
01-30-2004, 05:13 PM
Both married a lord of Gondor?

Ruitha
01-31-2004, 06:28 AM
No...

Gil-Galad
01-31-2004, 11:08 AM
Both had elvish blood in them?
Both were decendents from lords of Dol Amroth?

legolasfreak
01-31-2004, 01:25 PM
Legolas rode a horse from Rohan.

Ruitha
01-31-2004, 02:26 PM
No ... I'm thinking of Aredhel as in a Noldo who lived in the First Age, the sister of Fingon and Turgon, Gil-galad. smilies/wink.gif

Finwe
01-31-2004, 06:27 PM
They both married bold, masterful men, and were eventually (directly or indirectly) killed by them.

Aredhel --> the poisoned dart flung by Eol
Finduilas --> when darkness began to "contaminate" Denethor, she sensed it, and began to "fade."

Ruitha
02-01-2004, 10:39 AM
Close, but not quite what I'm looking for...

Finwe
02-02-2004, 06:13 PM
Both of their kids had weird relationships with their fathers?

Ruitha
02-03-2004, 11:13 AM
*laughs*
Okay, you're basically there. You just need to be slightly more specific. Stay with the father/son thing.

Finwe
02-03-2004, 07:30 PM
Both had husbands who disdained/hated their sons, and directly or indirectly tried to kill them?

Ruitha
02-04-2004, 02:37 PM
Okay, you got it. smilies/smile.gif Your turn!

Finwe
02-04-2004, 09:04 PM
Ingwë and Imrahil

Thorongil
02-05-2004, 03:48 AM
Both were leading a small part of a greater army to battle?

Evisse the Blue
02-05-2004, 06:34 AM
Their daughters married someone not from their house?

Gil-Galad
02-05-2004, 04:34 PM
They both took realms by the sea, or had things to do with swans (eg: swan knights of Dol Amroth and Swan ships of Aqualonde)

Finwe
02-05-2004, 09:32 PM
Nope.

Miriel
02-15-2004, 07:17 AM
May we have a hint, please, Finwe? ;)

Finwe
02-15-2004, 08:48 AM
HINT: It has to do with their siblings.

Thorongil
02-26-2004, 04:50 AM
*bump* This game is too much fun to die! I'm clueless, but someone must know the answer.

Finwe
02-26-2004, 11:27 AM
Ok... I'll give you guys another hint...

HINT: Look what their sisters did.

Arvedui III
02-26-2004, 12:37 PM
Herm...no clue, time to guess. Both their sisters bore two sons? Faramir and Boromir for Finduilas and Fingolfin and Finarfin for Indis.

Thorongil
03-10-2004, 03:18 PM
Since Finwe hasn't checked in in over ten days, I'll steal the thread:)

What is the connection between

Gimli and Feanor

Firefoot
03-10-2004, 05:10 PM
Didn't both ask Galadriel for some of her hair?

symestreem
03-10-2004, 06:53 PM
Going out on a limb here... both loved Galadriel? I think I remember reading that Feanor loved Galadriel, but she didn't love him.

Thorongil
03-11-2004, 12:08 AM
Firefoot got it! You're next.

Finwe
03-11-2004, 11:32 AM
Oh dear... I completely forgot about this thread... Anyway... in hindsight, the answer to mine was:

Both of their sisters had husbands who died untimely deaths.

Firefoot
03-11-2004, 02:52 PM
Okay, thanks, Thorongil!

Gollum and Balin.

Nilpaurion Felagund
03-11-2004, 11:26 PM
Both of them went looking for Rings of Power?

Firefoot
03-12-2004, 02:33 PM
Not what I'm looking for.

The Perky Ent
03-12-2004, 05:37 PM
They both lived in the Misty Mountains for a time? Gollum in his cave and Balin in Moria?

Firefoot
03-12-2004, 06:53 PM
Nope.

The Perky Ent
03-12-2004, 07:10 PM
They both died in a place full of fire? Gollum died at Mount Doom, which is very fiery, and Balin died in Moria, which has a balrog...which is also fiery!

Fingolfin II
03-13-2004, 04:04 AM
They both went to Moria?

Firefoot
03-13-2004, 07:48 AM
Neither.

The Perky Ent
03-13-2004, 08:45 AM
They both met Bilbo Baggins?

Firefoot
03-13-2004, 10:12 AM
No.

The Perky Ent
03-13-2004, 10:17 AM
They were both around the one ring for a while?

NightKnight
03-13-2004, 10:22 AM
Bilbo managed to get past both with the ring on his finger.

Firefoot
03-13-2004, 10:40 AM
Nope.

Hint: it has nothing to do with Rings.

Finwe
03-13-2004, 11:11 AM
They both came into contact with Hobbits of the Shire?

OR

They both went on journeys with Hobbits of the Shire?

Firefoot
03-13-2004, 06:48 PM
No.

The Perky Ent
03-13-2004, 06:56 PM
They both hate orcs?

Gilwen
03-13-2004, 07:24 PM
Uhh..both were relatively short??

Firefoot
03-13-2004, 07:31 PM
Neither.

Hint: It is something that happened to both of them.

Finwe
03-13-2004, 07:38 PM
Bilbo slipped past both of them while bearing the Ring.

Larien Telemnar
05-25-2005, 06:18 PM
Both were captured by the Elves of Mirkwood?

Firefoot
05-25-2005, 06:27 PM
Wow, this is an old thread. I'm amazed I still remember the answer - you are correct, Larien.

Welcome to the Downs, btw, and enjoy being dead! :D

Larien Telemnar
05-25-2005, 06:43 PM
I'm right? I'm right! Thankee! :D *Bounces up and down* This Hobbit never wins anything! I think I fried my brain, I thought about that for ten minutes!

Thank you for the warm welcome!
