A song that left Frodo feeling very embarassed had someone saying &quot; It's after _____.&quot; Fill in the blank.

" In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit . . . " That's where it all began.</p>

Why did the Dunadan consider the poem which Bilbo recited in Elrond's Hall of Fire to be &quot;cheeky&quot;.

Re: The Hobbit and LOTR Trivia

Because of Bilbo's rhyme technique (in which the style is one of a purposely slightly annoying tone and verse pacing) and his audacity to make up a song about Elrond's father in the House of Elrond.

Re: The Hobbit and LOTR Trivia

No.
Dis was born 14 years after Thorin and 9 years after Frerin.

The sister I am referring to is un-named.
The dwarf can be identified however, from information supplied by Tolkien.

Re: The Hobbit and LOTR Trivia

Just so this thread won't degenerate into limbo; I'll provide the answer here and ask Jes to assign a new question to someone as I am again leaving for a while.

<blockquote>Quote:<hr> J.R.R. Tolkien HISTORY Vol. 12; THE MAKING OF APPENDIX A
'They are seldom named in genealogies. They join their husband's families. But if a son is seen to be 110 or so years younger than his father, this usually indicates an elder daughter.'<hr></blockquote>
Borin son of Nain II born 2450
Farin son of Borin born 2560

Farin in all probability has an elder (un-named) sister according to information from Tolkien, and the only known dwarf to fall under this criteria.

Re: Sam´s brothers-in-law

The only thing I can think of is that you are mistakingly equating Peregrin Took as a brother-in-law.
If not; then I surrender.

Main Entry: brother-in-law
1 : the brother of one's spouse
2 a : the husband of one's sister b : the husband of one's spouse's
sister

Sam and Peregrin are fathers-in-law.
That's about the best that is available.

It's always the same: I had to guess between two numbers and I chose the wrog one.
So the: the answer is 7.
I must have guessed it, as Tolkien seemed to like 7 (the sons of Feanor, the portal of Gondolin...)

The first time Frodo used the Ring was at Bombadil's house to make sure that the Ring was the one he gave Tom, the second time was in Bree at the Prancing Poney (? I'm not sure, I mean Barliman's one), and the third was when Frodo was attacked by Boromir to escape from him.

JRRT, Guide to the Names in The Lord of the Rings

Fallohide. This has given difficulty. It should if possible be translated, since it is meant to represent a name with a meaning in the Common Speech, though one devised in the past and so containing archaic elements. It is made of English fallow + hide (cognates of German falb and Haut) and means 'Paleskin'. It is archaic, since fallow 'pale, yellowish' is not now in use, except in fallow deer, and hide is no longer applied to human skin (except as a transference back from its use of animal hides, used for leather). But this element of archaism need not be imitated. See III 414 on the relation of special hobbit words to the language of Rohan.

ok, here is the next one:

According to Gandalf (who was quoting another lore-master of yore) what was brought to middle-earth by the Sea-kings?

I did... but I already had the site before I posted it... some people I know didnt post it an another site but use it straight from bestanimations itself.. which probably is a good idea considering that I dont think a site so extensive as that would cease to exist.. Another point.. when one enters bestanimations, the banner claims all of the .gifs free, ergo one can use them striaght from the site.

I double checked just to make sure I had not hallucinated. Sorry, that's not it either. There is something not typical, at least in comparison with Thorin's dwarves, about the dwarven soldiers accompanying Dain. It is something about the dwarves themselves, not their gear.

Re: Put your weapons down!!

He allowed Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas to go free (and gave them horses) instead of taking them captive and bringing tham to Edoras.

Patrolling for orcs without permission, was what Theoden was talking about saying he rebelled against him. Telchar is correct...

Re: The Hobbit and LOTR Trivia

I dont think they would fell a Mallorn tree for a staff. So I would guess Lebethron.
