I recently thought of a trivia question which I think is apt for this site:

Who sent the Barrow-Wights to the Barrow-Downs?

Who roused the Barrow-Wights and Why?

EXTRA CREDIT:

Which of the nine mortal men doomed to die was sent into hobbiton first?

Re: Appropriate Questions

Very appropriate questions, Fingolfin, and I have the answers for two of them:

1. The Witch King of Angmar, during his wars against Fornost/Arnor...

2. I am not sure what you mean by roused - i.e. do you mean who roused them in LotR, who roused them originally, etc. Sorry

and the Bonus: Since we know only one of the names of the Nine (unless you choose to harbour the evil people that call themselves ICE) it would have to be Khamul.

No prob

That's ok - I don't even know for sure who DID rouse them when Khamul was riding...however, I could theorise that it was either Saruman or the Witch King - The answer is probably in HoME, which I haven't finished yet, so I haven't the faintest idea

Re: No prob

I believe it was the Witch-King who rouse them, I have read it somewhere, maybe in Unfinished Tales?

You're right!

It is in Unfinished Tales Part 3: The Hunt for the Ring

Re: Barrow Wights

I think I found it:

Quote:
"...The Black Captain stayed there for some days, and the Barrow-wights were roused..."
